2023.04.26 13:18 TamaCacti Worms
Okay, so back in February I had my dog dewormed twice pretty much, I had gotten interceptor from the vet, and done the rest of her shots and such through the Vetco clinic at my work and they gave her a round of their dewormer, just not giving us the second dosage you would later on in a few days, but this dewormer was meant to last the year. She did end up pooing what I believe to be roundworms or hookworms anyways from that for about the next two days from that point, I figured she'd gotten rid of em all, and we won't have to retreat anyways. Well after my dogs spay the vet gave us the rest of the interceptor and told us to give one each month, I figure even if the other one was meant to last for a year it's probably best to give interceptor still even, I don't believe it could hurt. Well she ended up pooing two worms, again. It was simply two this time and she hasn't poo'd anymore since the second dose of interceptor, but the fact there were even still worms after the other dewormer was meant to last the year shocks me, what do I do?

2023.04.11 03:26 tokingtogepi Craigslist scam illness
Hi all. Please no judgment. I purchased an 8 month golden doodle off of Craigslist last Sunday. I know now that was a risky, and probably terrible idea. I paid $400. I saw him in the ad, thought he was adorable, and just went for it. We met the owner, she was a young girl who was probably around 22, who clearly lived with her family and brought her little sister along. She said she was moving to Denver for a “program” - I assumed school and was rehoming. I asked for details in person and she didn’t share much. I asked if the dog had allergies or health issue and she said no but that she was told his breed is susceptible to a chicken allergy so he “could be allergic” but said she never saw any actual allergy symptoms to chicken. She was feeding him Rachel Ray food (with chicken meal in it) and greenies, those bags of food and his leash are all she gave me. She said he was crate trained but offered no crate. He had a collar that was sewn on, we had to cut it off. The tag on the collar had a different number than hers. I asked where and when she got him, she said at 3 months and from “a lady she knew with puppies” but seemed to trip up at the question (also, was she given the puppy or bought it? No clue). She provided paperwork for vaccination from a company called VetCo that had her name on it. I called to verify it was real (they do vax clinics at Petco). I also verified her phone number was actually hers. But, I guess there’s no way to tell if it’s the same dog if they happened to have had a large lot of the same puppies? He was underweight by about 7-8 lbs and very unkempt, dirty. It was noted in the paperwork from December that he was underweight then too.
Maybe I am being extremely paranoid, but within a day or two of getting the dog we noticed he had an ear infection. We thought maybe ear mites so treated for that for a day or two but by Thursday we took him to the vet where we found out he had a pretty progressed infection with several strains of bacteria. We are trying to treat it with a broad spectrum antibiotic/anti fungal/anti inflammatory/steroid liquid. He was put on pain meds. He may need a culture done if it’s not improving by Thursday. The next day or two his snout started getting what looked like hives under his nose which crusted over and spread to his mouth, top of nose, then his eyes. It got worse and worse. We took him to urgent care and they said it looks like he has an immune mediated disease. We are treating for infection/allergy first but they said it doesn’t present like allergy (which is usually red irritated paw and armpit/belly skin). Switched pain meds, just in case, and on antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics. We’ve already spend over $700 just this week on the vet alone. We were transitioning him from Rachel Ray to Nulo but trashed the Nulo and are now transitioning to a grain-free food (salmon/pea Purevita) just in case this could be a grain or other protein allergy. It just seems odd if it were an allergy, that she wouldn’t have found out about it in the almost 6 months that she owned him, and that is has presented how it has. He also is underweight, drinks loads of water, and is very un-pupplylike. He might be the chillest, calmest 8 month old dog I’ve ever met. Very well trained, very easy, smart. And this is before we put him on benedryl/gabapentin. So I know she didn’t give him up because he’s a tough puppy. I texted her several times asking if she ever saw any skin issues and she says no.
Also note: I had them check for chip and nothing (although, he’s young and not neutered and usually you chip/neuter together) and I posted him to my local lost dog Facebook pages to make sure he wasn’t stolen. Nothing has come of it so far.
First question: has anyone experienced a sudden nose/eye swelling/hives/crust/bleeding? Hoping it clears up but a bit paranoid that it will be a lifelong thing. Any experience with immune mediated disease or allergy that presents like this (just eyes and nose)? Not sure if we should expect the worst, but if anyone has any resources/advices that’d be great. Could she have fudged vax records and he has distemper?
Second: did I get scammed? Or is it just bad timing? Maybe the change to the environment is causing this somehow, since he did just switch homes and we have 3 cats too? Any ideas as to what may have happened? I feel like there are too many red flags with old owner and timing of the illness.

2023.03.15 21:41 jaystanding When can I take my puppy outside? Getting conflicting information
I have a 16 week old mini poodle, and today I took her to a Vetco clinic for her final 5-way shot. I asked the woman administering the vaccine if she was good to go on walks now. She said my area (NYC) doesn’t have a high risk of parvo so she’ll be fine.
However, when I got home I called her regular vet office, and the nurse told me it’s best to keep her in the house for another two weeks.
I want to keep my baby safe, but personally I don’t think I have another two weeks in me to keep her inside. I’m over her using the potty pads in the house and my puppy is getting extremely bored (which is understandable). Right after we left Petco I kept her on her harness, let her walk on the pavement, and she had the time of her life!
I’m not quite sure what to do though going forward. Can anyone else chime in? Can someone from NYC (or another big city) chime in and tell me what they did with theirs.

2023.02.24 17:02 snailsharts 9 mo old female kitten with urinary issue
Hi all! I am seeking some comfort from other people who mught have been through this before.
Species: Cat
Age: 9 months
Sex/Status: Female, Spayed in December
Breed: Shorthair Orange Tabby?
Weight: 7 lbs
History: Nothing of note
Clinical signs: Urinating on any clothing or towels my husband and I leave on the floor as well as on plastic bags and in moving boxes
Duration: Since Jan 23rd when we moved house to another area of our city
General location: LB, California
Hi all! I need some help here, as I am new to having a cat and not sure what to do.
My husband and I got a street kitten when she was 16 weeks old from a friend (her local stray had a litter). She was spayed in December and recovered well. She has always been great about using the litter box and has only ever peed outside the box once prior, when she peed on some dirty sheets I left piled on the floor. This happened in November, never happened again until now.
On January 23rd we started moving our items from our old house (4 bedrooms, 2 baths, she had a large room to herself) to a new home in another aread of the same city (smaller, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, she does not have her own room). On the 28th on January we moved her to the new home which was filled with our boxed belongings. That day I hate to admit she was in her carrier for probably more than 1 hour as we drove her to the new place.
Since we started settling in, she has been peeing on trash bags, peeing in cardboard boxes that have our items in them, peeing on our clothes and towels that we left laying on the floor, and also still peeing in her box. The urine has been normal color, consistency, and scent (tmi sorry). She is not straining or crying and not showing any other signs of UTI.
Out of an abundance of caution I took her to the vet where they performed a urine test. They took the urine with a needle to her bladder. The tech said she has a really small bladder when she brought her back out. She was fine after the test, and since we cleaned up the house she has been peeing in her box and has not peed anywhere on the floor unless I leave dirty laundry lying around. She pees approximately 4-5 times a day and poops 2x a day.
The vet called me and stated she does not have a UTI but has struvite crystals in her urine, and told me that she will need to eat a special food for the rest of her life. The vet did not specify the concentration of crystals in the urine, but urged me to have her get a radiography now and again in a few months. I will include the urine test result, which I don't really know how to read. This was a Vetco vet who explained this to me.
I am beyond sad for our poor baby girl, and I am wondering if the crystals are causational or just happened by chance. Is there anything I can do to improve her quality of life? Is it possible she is peeing outsdie the box to mark her territory in this new environment? How worried do I need to be? Has anyone been through this before?
More info: She eats a can of the instinct chicken wetfood daily mixed with water till it looks like soup and 1/4-1/2 cup of instinct dry food chicken flavor. She drinks fresh water from a still bowl daily and I see her drink a lot of water every day. I got her a fountain as well hoping it would help her stay healthy and expell the crystals. She gets freezedried chicken treats when we need to trick her into getting her nails trimmed, but nothing other than that. Never any human foods.
Urine test results: Sample taken 2/16, tested 2/17
Color: Dark Yellow
Clarity: Clear
Specific gravity: 1.073
pH: 7
Urine Protien: 1+
Glucose, Ketones, Blood, Bilirubin, Urobilinogen: all negative or normal
White blood cells: 0-2 HPF
Red blood cells: 0-2 HPF
Bacteria: None seen
Epithelial cells: 1+
Mucus and Casts: None seen
Crystals: 1+ ammonium mg phosphate

2023.02.06 20:19 sakura1127 Conflict of interest?
Hello, I currently work for the Vetco vaccination clinics but was thinking about applying for a job at PetSmart since they have one open for a potential pet trainer. I know it would be a conflict of interest if I was a Petco partner, but since I work for Vetco which is purely just a veterinary services company and a company under the Petco corporation branch, would this still be a conflict of interest?

2022.12.28 04:39 Majestic_Pear7594 Signed up for Vetco clinic at checkout?
I went to petco today and this guys at the register asked if I wanted to get 15% off my purchase and I was like what yeah tf and so he said that I had to be a vetco member and I was like I am a member (thinking he just meant pals rewards) and he did computer things and then asked me to follow the instructions on the pad. Did all that cause there was a line and then he gave me a panflet about it and turns out it was a yearly thing but I already have banfield for my cat. Is there a way I can cancel it or do anything about it?

2022.12.22 00:29 MySliceOfLife_103 My ACD was nose to nose with a coyote through our backyard fence, appearing to be playful with each other. What is he at risk of?
Hi everyone, I’m wondering what to do about this. My dog was playing through the fence with a coyote. The fence is a rod iron fence, so there’s lots of space between the bars. Their noses were touching, and then running along the fence with each other.
He’s not up to date on his flea meds, and I tried to get him some afterwards but his vet changed the policy and he needs an exam to get them now. His exam is scheduled for today.
Is he at risk of anything? Like worms or rabies? Is the exam necessary or can he wait to go to the Vetco clinic after the holidays?
We have another dog, and they’ve been separated since this happened on Sunday evening.
