Can the Nets make the playoffs next year?
2023.03.22 15:40 somebody12345nobody Can the Nets make the playoffs next year?
The James Harden trade and other similar moves has left the Nets without draft picks for several years in the future, so being in the lottery next year would be catastrophic.
They’ve got a lot of solid young guys like Cam Johnson and, Dorian Finney-Smith, Nic Claxton, Mikal Bridges and Moses Brown. They’ve also got valuable veterans in Spencer Dinwiddie, Seth Curry, and Joe Harris (Joe’s contract is awful but he’s not bad, just overpaid).
Should they try to flip them for picks or hunker down and try to fight through the years of pick-lessness?

2023.03.22 15:05 Lamed-vav Genesis series and Exodus Panel
I greatly enjoyed Dr. Peterson's 17 lectures on Genesis. I did think that several elements were lacking due to Dr. Peterson studying mostly non-Jewish sources such as Biblehub. The Torah was given in Hebrew to the people of Israel. It has been studied in Hebrew hundreds of years prior to Christianity and continues to be studied in the two thousand years since. From what Dr. Peterson mentioned, Biblehub's sources go back a few hundred years, presumably based on scholars an additional few hundred year older. That makes over a thousand years of earlier exegetical tradition that may be missing. In addition, much of the Christian scholarship is based on translations, losing out on linguistic nuance which is so basic to the Hebrew exegetical tradition. In the Q&A of the 17th Genesis lecture, a Jewish young man offered Dr. Peterson a text to help address this lacuna.
Here are a some examples of the translation falling short:
The snake in the Garden of Eden was described as "subtle" in the translation used. Dr. Peterson had a lengthy discussion of the meaning of "subtle". The Hebrew word can be translated as cunning or sly. I think the discussion may have fallen short of the original meaning of the text. In addition the Hebrew word "Arum" in a homophone also meaning naked. So when the Arum snake brought about Human consciousness, they became aware of their own state of being Arum.
The birth of Isaac also fell short not using the original Hebrew. The name Isaac in Hebrew -Yitzchak - is from the same root as the verbs and nouns of laughter. Laughter is a response to a surprising outcome, the more unexpected the outcome, the more laughter a joke elicits. The Hebrew text describes Sarah's laughter on both learning of Isaac's future arrival and in the context of naming Isaac. The "joke" is on humanity, Abraham's children have and will survive despite all attempts to annihilate us.
The Jewish tradition describes the episode in which Abraham was commanded to sacrifice Isaac as "The binding of Isaac" rather than "the sacrifice of Isaac". I believe this reflects the message that Judaism takes from the event that has a different focus from that of Christianity. For Jews, Abraham's willingness to sacrifice and Isaacs willingness to be sacrificed are what proves Abraham's "fear" of G-d. Fear is a misnomer, the Hebrew word used has a combined meaning of awe combined with reverence. There is a different word for regular fear. Christianity seems to focus on actualized sacrifice.
Regarding the panel discussion on Exodus. It is an amazing gathering and a privilege to listen in on the conversation. It was exciting to see Dennis Prager among the scholars. He is doing amazing work both for the general ills of our time as well as spreading the word of G-d. I do think it would have been even more significant to have an additional Jewish voice, one from deeper within the Orthodox study halls to add additional insight form a higher level of Hebrew and exegetical fluency. Rabbi Dr. Jacob J Shachter comes to mind.
I very much appreciate the emphasis acknowledged of women's role in redemption. The feminine . I am not a Feminist in the militant sense. I am, however, surprised that not a single female scholar made the cut for the panel. Perhaps several were approached and couldn't make it. Two names come to my mind - Dr. Erica Brown of Yeshiva University and Professor Maria Poggi Johnson of the University of Scranton.

2023.03.22 15:04 chainer9999 2023 32 Teams/32 Days: Cincinnati Bengals
Hub post Contributors:
chainer9999,
TheReaver88 Division: AFC North
Record: 12-4 (1 no contest), AFC North Champions, Lost in AFC Title Game
Season Summary:
After a Cinderella run the previous season which ended just short of a truly miraculous ending, there were a lot of split opinions about whether the Bengals were “for real.” While there were people who believed that a young nucleus led by Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and numerous talented but relatively unknown defenders would continue to grow and be even better in 2022-23, the majority opinion was that the Bengals were prime regression candidates and
that they were not even the favorites for their own division.
The early part of the season appeared to validate the skeptics: the Bengals sputtered to an 0-2 start, and the offseason O-line improvements were not yet apparent. But Joe Burrow found his form, the line came together as a cohesive unit, and the offense adjusted to take what the defenses were giving them in the short passing game. After a humiliating Monday night loss in Cleveland, the team buckled down and ripped off 8 straight wins (with a tragic no contest in the middle) to roar past the Ravens and grab the division title for the second straight year. The Bengals entered the postseason with some serious question marks; two of their three prized OL signings went down with injuries, as did left tackle Jonah Williams. After squeezing by Baltimore and dominating Buffalo, Cincinnati fell just short against the Chiefs in the AFC Title Game by a familiar score of 23-20. The Bengals experienced several departures in free agency, but the coaching staff and quarterback will remain with the team in 2023 in search of the franchise’s first Super Bowl.
1. 2022 Offseason Recap - Free Agency Signings:
- RG Alex Cappa (4 years, $35m, $11m guaranteed): Announced within the first minute of free agency, Cappa's signing signaled a stark departure from the past, when the Bengals refused to pay big money to guards. As the interior of the o-line was absolute garbage especially near the end of the previous season, Cappa was viewed with great optimism.
- C Ted Karras (3 years, $18m, $5m guaranteed): Karras a bit less so. While known as a heady and smart player, the Bengals fanbase had been focused in on Ryan Jensen, but he chose to play with TB12 for one more run. Karras felt like a consolation prize at the time, but he was definitely a good signing and won over many fans with his play and attitude.
- RT La’El Collins (3 years, $21m, $5m guaranteed): Filled with shopping mall intrigue and Burrow-baked cupcakes, the La’El Collins saga eventually ended up with him in the building. While the great majority of the fanbase welcomed a signing of Collins’s pedigree, there was some skepticism amongst certain fans that maybe there was a reason Collins had been let go by Dallas. Yeah, about that……
- TE Hayden Hurst (1 year, $3.5m): A signing needed to replace the departed CJ Uzomah, expectations were modest for Hurst. With his first-round pedigree, the hope was that he’d slot into Uzomah’s production, maybe make some gamebreaking plays.
- Notable Re-signed players:
- DT BJ Hill (3 years, $30m total, $13m guaranteed): After a promising campaign rotating with Larry Ogunjobi, the Bengals chose to pay Hill. This was seen as a bit of a gamble as Hill, while productive in a rotational role, had not been the starter the previous season. Ogunjobi was more disruptive as an interior pass rusher, but the deciding factor was probably Ogunjobi’s deficiency in run support and his late-season injury.
- FS Jessie Bates III (Franchise tag, $12.9m): After failing to come to a long-term deal, Bates was franchised, a distinction that he did not take great joy in. Bates maintained that he would refuse to play on the tag, and carried out that threat well into training camp.
- CB Eli Apple (1 year, $3.5m): While most knew Apple as 1) a loud Tweeter and 2) the guy that got burned by Cooper Kupp in the final moments of the Super Bowl, Bengals fans knew that Apple had outplayed his paltry contract. With the cornerback market getting pricy, Apple was retained as a cheap value CB2 or CB3, depending on how the draft would fall out.
- Other re-signed players:
- QB Brandon Allen (1 year, $1.5m), WR Stanley Morgan (2 years, $2.24m), WR
Adam Cole Trenton Irwin (1 year, $825k), WR Trent Taylor (1 year, $1.135m), WR Mike Thomas (1 year, $1.13m) - DT Josh Tupou (2 years, $3m), S/CB* Tre Flowers (1 year, $1.85m), S Michael D. Thomas (1 year, $1.17m)
- LS Clark Harris (1 year, $1.27m)
- Departures:
- TE CJ Uzomah (UFA, Jets, 3 yrs $24m): the spiritual leader of the team during their Cinderella playoff run, Uzomah left for a payday and to be in New York. While it was sad, people understood that his money for his production was not a great deal.
- DT Larry Ogunjobi (UFA, Steelers, 1 yr): After a failed medical scuttled his potential big-money move to Chicago, there were some rumblings that Ogunjobi could possibly return, but no dice; Ogunjobi eventually ended up in Pittsburgh, leaving Baltimore as the one AFC North team that he hasn’t played for……yet.
- C Trey Hopkins (Released, unsigned by any NFL team in 2022), OG Quinton Spain (UFA, unsigned by any NFL team in 2022), RT Riley Reiff (UFA, Bears): Three members of the offensive line cut or not retained. Tells you something, doesn't it?
- CB Trae Waynes (Released, subsequently retired): the big miscue out of the Bengals’ defensive spending spree, Waynes was constantly hurt, and even when healthy could not beat out Awuzie or Apple.
- CB Darius Phillips (UFA, Raiders): After his two-muff debacle against San Francisco, he was never heard from again in Bengals stripes.
- CB Vernon Hargraves III (UFA, unsigned by any NFL team), S Ricardo Allen (UFA, subsequently retired), LB Jordan Evans (UFA, unsigned by any NFL team)
- WR Auden Tate (UFA, Falcons), OL Fred Johnson (ERFA, Buccaneers)
- Draft picks:
- Round 1: S Daxton Hill (Michigan) - a redshirt year for Dax, as he was picked with Bates’ departure in mind. Still, it was somewhat depressing to see him virtually never get on the field, and he worryingly showed some mental lapses when used on special teams.
- Round 2: CB Cam Taylor-Britt (Nebraska) - the first instance of Zac Taylor’s Nebraska connection being utilized, CTB was picked to compete with Apple for the CB2 job.
- Round 3: DL Zach Carter (Florida) - seen by many draftniks as a reach, Anarumo’s penchant for players who can line up in multiple positions was a deciding factor. Ultimately did not contribute much, as his first campaign was spent mostly bulking up.
- Round 4: OG Cordell Volson (North Dakota State) - the sole pick spent on offense, Volson was seen as a Frank Pollack guy from the start, a “glass-eater” to use Pollack’s term. He beat out Jackson Carman for the left guard job and held it, making the pick a relative success.
- Round 5: S Tycen Anderson (Tulsa) - an injury wiped out his rookie campaign.
- Round 6: DL Jeffrey Gunter (Coastal Carolina) - Not much out of Gunter in his rookie campaign, except on special teams.
- Notable UDFAs:
- LS Cal Adomitis (Pitt): this pickup would prove hugely important after Week 1.
- Midseason waiver pickups
- DT Jay Tufele (Jacksonville Jaguars)
- OG Max Scharping (Houston Texans)
- TE Devin Asiasi (New England Patriots)
- Other notable happenings
- Zac Taylor’s contract extended: Hey, if you lead the Bengals from the doldrums to the precipice of a Super Bowl, you deserve to get paid. There were concerns about whether this was a knee-jerk extension to an overachieving season, but over the course of 2022, Taylor showed enough both tactically and leadership-wise that we can say it wasn’t a mistake.
- Joe Burrow’s appendectomy: the quest for an uninterrupted Joe Burrow offseason continues, as he had an appendectomy before training camp and missed all of preseason. While none of the players or coaches admitted as such, one gets the sense that this definitely impacted Burrow early in the season.
- Paul Brown Stadium becomes Paycor Stadium: Seeing the dollar signs racing towards him in the form of Burrow, Chase, and Higgins, Mike Brown gave in and put up the naming rights of Paul Brown Stadium for sale. Paycor made the highest bid, and thus PBS became Paycor Stadium. I maintain that it sounds better than Acrisure Stadium; your mileage may vary.

From the data, we can conclude a few things.
- Continuing last year’s trend, the Bengals were a top-quartile passing offense, even after a dreadful start to the season. After some fits and starts, the players and coaching staff eventually figured out how to attack opposing defenses that took away the deep shots which made the team must-watch TV last season. This dinged the yards per attempt figure, which dipped from 3rd in 2021 to 9th this season.
- However, the running game, which was bottom quartile last year, was even more putrid–and this was evident to anybody that was watching the games. It got so bad that at one point, the Bengals gave up lining up under center and went all shotgun all the time, because they simply could not run the ball from under center (and telegraphed the run way too much when they went under center). The running backs did contribute significantly in the passing game as Burrow utilized checkdowns extensively as a counter to the 2 high safety shells, but the running game itself ultimately never got going.
- The reinforcements for the O-line did have some impact, as the sacks allowed and sack yardage stat all improved quite a bit from last year (55 → 42, 403 → 280). Some of this was also on Burrow learning when to give up looking for the home run.

A few conclusions:
- Last year’s defense was a middling defense that got hot at the right time; this year, the results were more steady throughout the season, as the Bengals improved their defensive rankings across nearly all areas.
- One notable area where the Bengals declined was in sacks, as Trey Hendrickson’s 14.5 sacks from last year did not materialize (though advanced stats say that he played just as well, if not better). Other than T-Rex, the Bengals don’t really have an elite pass rusher, which in turn puts a strain on coverage.
- While Lou Anarumo being back is a huge boon, there most definitely will be some departures this offseason compared to last year, when virtually every meaningful contributor returned......and this was borne out in free agency, as Bates and Bell walked away, bringing the "dark day" that Anarumo had been dreading.
3. Season Review - Game by game recaps: see here
- Season highs and lows:
- Highs
- Feasting on the NFC South: With the season off to an uneven start, the Bengals won a close one against New Orleans, and then absolutely pasted the Falcons and the Panthers to gain momentum for the stretch run. Even old GOAT Brady could not stop the Bengals, as the Bengals defense led a rousing second half comeback to sweep the NFC South.
- The 8-game win streak to end the season: There was a lot of skepticism about the Bengals after their slow start, as the stretch run slate of opponents looked exceptionally difficult. However, the team came together for this stretch and dispatched Tennessee, Kansas City, old nemesis Cleveland, Tampa, New England and Baltimore to once again claim the division.
- The Hubbard Yard Dash: Arguably the greatest defensive play in Bengals history. With the game in the balance on Wild Card Weekend, local kid Sam Hubbard scooped up a goal-line fumble and, unlike in Madden, didn’t run out of stamina on his way to the end zone, snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat. A fitting celebratory moment for a player who often gets overlooked.
- Returning to the AFC Title Game: There were many questions about whether the Bengals were just a one-year wonder, or if 2021 was the foundation for something greater. While they came up just short in the AFC Title Game, the fact that they managed to make it there twice in a row after being a doormat for half a decade is not something that should be laughed at.
- Lows
- The first two games of the season: A comedy of errors in Week 1 (a pick six, a blocked XP, and a hilariously botched FG) and a sputtering offense in Week 2 started the season off in morbid fashion. Ultimately, these two squandered games would become the difference in the Bengals having no shot at home field in the stretch run.
- The Halloween massacre: The Browns have had Zac Taylor’s number ever since he became head coach, and on Halloween,
Jake Brisket Jacoby Brissett, Nick Chubb and Myles Garrett delivered an ass whooping. It was the Bengals’ worst loss of the season, compounded by CB1 Chidobe Awuzie tearing his ACL. - The end of the season: No doubt about it, the final game against Kansas City feels like an opportunity missed, as O-line injuries led to the offense sputtering even as the defense put up an incredible effort against Patrick Mahomes & co. The way it ended with a costly penalty also stings, as many knew that this year would be the end of the line for several key players.
- Special aside
- The Damar Hamlin game: As the other team participating in that game, I think the Bengals, and specifically head coach Zac Taylor, did the right thing by conferring with Sean McDermott to essentially stop the game, and get the very distressed players off the field. It’s really a relief seeing Hamlin now walking about and able to live his life, considering he was temporarily a dead man on the field in Cincinnati. Even though I don’t think the league handled the aftermath very well, I truly hope that in another scenario like that, the Bengals and Taylor would act just like they did that night–some things are bigger than football.
- Awards:
- HoF induction: Ken Riley (posthumous)
- Best Celly of the Year (lol): The Jungle Roller Coaster (Week 18)
- Pro Bowlers
- First Team: QB Joe Burrow, WR Ja’Marr Chase, DE Trey Hendrickson
- Alternates: FS Jessie Bates III (2nd alternate), RB Joe Mixon (3rd alternate), WR Tyler Boyd (3rd alternate), K Evan McPherson (4th alternate), C Ted Karras (5th alternate), DT DJ Reader (5th alternate), SS Vonn Bell (5th alternate)
- All-Pros: None
- A bit of a rant, but it is incredible how the Bengals have no All-Pros, just three first team Pro Bowlers, managed to win the AFC North and reel off 8 straight wins to finish the season, and Zac Taylor doesn’t get a single vote for CotY. Where the hell are the victories coming from then?
4. Offense/Defense/Special Teams Review - Offense in-depth Review: Here
- Defense in-depth Review: Here
- Special Teams in-depth Review: Here
5. What Lies Ahead for the Bengals in the 2023 Offseason (Free Agency and Draft) - Extension Candidates: before we get started, it should be noted that the Bengals front office has rarely used the "modern cap techniques" such as void years and backlogging guarantees--they like doing flat AAV contracts and not incurring dead money when possible. However, with Burrow and Chase (and others) soon to be paid, it is going to be tricky to navigate the cap without utilizing such methods. This offseason will grant us a real look at what the Bengals' strategy is moving forward.
- QB Joe Burrow: The big one. He’ll get extended, no question–it’s a matter of how much, and how it’s structured. An AAV of $50m is probably going to be the end result. This extension will be the one that shapes all decisions this offseason, as well as many other offseasons to come.
- WR Tee Higgins: Extension-eligible, the tricky part is that Chase is available for one next year (although Chase has a 5th year option). Since paying two WRs WR1 money is often not seen as a wise investment of cap space, there is a lot of speculation that Higgins might be trade bait a la A.J. Brown–of course, we know what happened to the GM that actually did trade A.J. Brown, so really? An extension might not get done, but the Bengals will want to keep him around at least for the next two years, possibly even using the tag on Higgins after this season if things go down that route.
- LB Logan Wilson: The 3rd rounder in the “Burrow draft,” Wilson has blossomed into a good-to-great linebacker. With Pratt looking set to leave, the team will want to lock down Wilson; the issue will be the cap number. If the Higgins extension is a no-go, Wilson could be the one getting it instead this offseason. The return of Pratt at a relatively modest number might change the calculation a bit.
- The next two are primarily cap-related extension ideas, which, for the record, are not typically things that Cincinnati has done.
- DE Trey Hendrickson: With two years remaining on his deal and his importance to the defense paramount, an extension might be an option to lower Hendrickson's cap hit ($15m).
- DT DJ Reader: Entering the last year of his 4-year deal, Reader's importance to the run defense is similar to Hendrickson's to the pass rush. Just like Hendrickson, Reader's cap hit is $15m--an extension could be on the cards.
- Free agency
- Notable UFAs
- FS Jessie Bates III: Having already had contentious negotiations for two years and playing on the franchise tag, Bates looks almost as good as gone. Get paid, man. (Highly likely to leave) Left for Atlanta on a 4-year, $64m deal. Glad he got his bag, thanks for the memories Jessie.
- LB Germaine Pratt: Played himself into a big payday by being a positive in pass coverage, and probably out of Cincinnati’s reach. (Likely to leave) Ended up staying, solidifying the linebacking corps (3 years, $21m).
- SS Vonn Bell: With Bates almost certain to leave and Lou Anarumo on record as saying that it will be a dark day when both Bell and Bates are no longer here, Bell looks to be a high priority to re-sign. This is especially because unlike Bates, the Bengals don’t have someone that can fill in Bell’s slot. (50-50) Left for Carolina on a 3-year, $22.5m deal. Thanks for the memories Vonn, you turned the franchise around when you sent JuJu into next week.
- CB Eli Apple: With the emergence of Cam Taylor-Britt and Apple’s antics on Twitter coming to the fore after the Divisional Round, it’s a toss-up to whether Apple is re-signed. If he’s willing to play for cheap like he did last year ($4m), it wouldn’t be a bad idea. (50-50)
- TE Hayden Hurst: Hurst became a fan favorite in Cincinnati, and he seemed to like it here as it gave him a chance to resurrect his career. The issue will definitely be price, as nobody is certain exactly how much Hurst will command–if it goes into CJ Uzomah territory ($8m AAV), the Bengals will probably bid him goodbye. (50-50) Left for Carolina on a 3-year, $21m deal. The man parlayed the season into a bag, good for him!
- RB Samaje Perine: Mixon might be gone unless he takes a pay cut, in which case the Bengals will probably want to retain Perine while bringing in a rookie. How much the Bengals pursue Perine will be dependent on money and what happens with Mixon. (Likely to return) Left for Denver on a 2-year, $7.5m deal. He stated personal reasons, so I'll respect that. We'll always remember his TD against the Chiefs and him dribbling Justin Reid's head.
- RB Trayveon Williams, WR Trent Taylor, OG Max Scharping: re-signed
- CB Jalen Davis, S Michael D. Thomas: re-signed
- DB Tre Flowers
- QB Brandon Allen
- TE Drew Sample
- LS Clark Harris
- Potential cut candidates
- RB Joe Mixon: His 12m cap hit is a large one for a running back who was ineffective last year. As he doesn't have additional years left on his deal, restructuring is not an option. Straight up cutting Mixon would save roughly $7.2m against the cap, while incurring $5.5m in dead money. Perine's departure makes this less likely.
- OT La'El Collins: The coaching staff seems to want him back. However, his play noticeably dipped last year, making a cut a distinct possibility. Cutting Collins would save the Bengals $6m while incurring $3.3m in dead money.
- ERFAs
- LS Cal Adomitis: re-signed in February, which probably means the end of the road for Clark Harris.
- LB Clay Johnston
- TE Mitchell Wilcox
- RFA
- Additions
- LT Orlando Brown (4 yrs, $64m): A very unexpected signing, and probably the biggest swing that the Bengals have taken in free agency regarding the offensive line in recent memory. He's not perfect, but he's a damn good LT and in his prime; throw in the surprisingly reasonable contract, and this is a signing that Bengals fandom was highly supportive of. This did in turn force current LT Jonah Williams to make a trade request; stay tuned.
- S Nick Scott (3 yrs, $12m): Signed to pair up with Dax Hill after Vonn Bell's departure, Scott is definitely athletic and heady, although Bengals fandom was somewhat disappointed after prime free agent Chauncey Gardner-Johnson was all over Twitter re-tweeting Bengals players throughout early free agency.
- OG/T Cody Ford (1 yr, $1.08m): Signed for the minimum, there are rumblings that Ford could be the Bengals' plan at RT, which does not give me any reassurances. It's better than Adeniji, but that's not saying much.
- Draft
- Needs
- Offensive Line: Center and right guard are stable (Karras, Cappa), left tackle is now set (Brown) but right tackle is uncertain (Collins? Williams? Ford?) and left guard is nothing special (Volson). The Bengals will definitely look to see if they can secure a high-potential offensive tackle prospect with their first rounder, with names like Dawand Jones, Broderick Jones, Darnell Wright, and Anton Harrison all in the mix for the 29th pick.
- Tight End: Hurst is gone, Sample and Wilcox are out of contract, and this is a deep class for tight ends. The idea of taking one in the first round like Michael Mayer or Darnell Washington is hotly debated on Bengals Twitter, but later round potential picks like Sam Laporta, Tucker Kraft or Luke Schoonmaker are also discussed. They need at least one.
- Pass rusher: While the defense improved this season, it had a precipitous drop-off in sacks. Either a good edge or someone that can provide pressure from the interior is needed, and names like Calijah Kancey, Nolan Smith, and BJ Ojulari are all under discussion.
- Cornerback: With Awuzie coming off a torn ACL and CTB still developing, the Bengals could see cornerback as a position that needs another injection of youth–you need as many corners as you can in this league, and the Bengals have not been afraid to stack picks at CB in the past (Jonathan Joseph-Leon Hall, Dre Kirkpatrick-Darqueze Dennard). Deonte Banks was the main name that got discussed for the 29th pick, though he may have risen too far now.
- Wide receiver: Tyler Boyd may be on his last season at Cincy, and with Higgins and Chase due for raises, finding a developing wide receiver is a need. Probably not a 1st unless someone slips far, but they’ll look for options later in the draft.
- Running back: Even if Mixon returns, it behooves the Bengals to find a future starter in later rounds. If Bijan is actually there at pick 29 there will be some interesting discussions, but later round names like Zach Charbonnet, Devon Achane or any other running back prospect slated for Day 2 or later will be in the mix.
- Possible coaching departures and promotions:
- OC Brian Callahan (finalist for the Colts job–lost out to Shane Steichen)
- DC Lou Anarumo (finalist for the Cardinals job–lost out to Jonathan Gannon)
- QB Coach Dan Pitcher (interviewed for Bucs OC)
- After a lengthy process, Callahan, Anarumo and Pitcher all were passed over by other teams, leading them back to Cincinnati. The dream scenario would be for these coaches, who have been with the team for five years now, to guide the Bengals to the promised land and then find their places as head coaches. Of course, dreams don’t always come true, but there’s no harm in hoping.
6. Concluding Remarks This was an amazing season for the Bengals, despite major disappointment on either end of the schedule. The biggest takeaway was the statement that the Bengals are real; all those projections of a “step back” or the team being a fluke have faded into the past. The convincing win in Buffalo was among the strongest statements the franchise has ever made. The new reality of the NFL is that the Cincinnati Bengals are a serious contender until proven otherwise.
The team has taken free agency losses and will need to see how the roster looks going forward, but this team is still largely the same squad that has reached consecutive AFC title games, and it’s mostly behind a coaching staff and quarterback that are still leading the charge. As long as Joe Burrow is wearing stripes, Bengals fans will enter the season (and often the postseason) with an aura of confidence that has frankly
never existed for this fanbase.
Cincinnati will enter 2023 as one of the 4 or 5 shortest odds to win Super Bowl LVIII, and at this point, we fans can dream of our first Lombardi Trophy without being accused of hitting the pipe. However, many monsters loom in the loaded AFC. Guide us, the good shepherd Burrow.

2023.03.22 14:29 yaitz331 The Battle of Cassville - the most underrated "What If" of the American Civil War
The American Civil War is one of the most popular settings for alternate histories. There are a number of reasons for this; it's the largest war fought on American soil, it retains great cultural relevance to this day, and it's just generally really interesting. However, these alternate histories tend to cluster quite tightly around just a few turning points. There are hundreds of Gettysburg, Antietam, and Stonewall Jackson alternate histories, a fair few revolving around the Peninsula Campaign, Shiloh, the Overland Campaign, and British intervention, and disappointingly few around critical points such as the Vicksburg Campaign, the 1862 Kentucky Campaign, and the Chickamauga/Chattanooga Campaign. However, there is one potential alternate history that falls even below these; a potential alternate history that I have never, not even once, seen realized. The Atlanta Campaign as a whole has a few alternate histories written about it, primarily due to the fall of Atlanta being one of the major factors leading to Lincoln's reelection. But the greatest Confederate opportunity of the Atlanta Campaign remains bizarrely unused. Here, I lay out the historical context around the Battle of Cassville; hopefully I can spark interest in this fascinating moment of a fascinating war.
At the beginning of the campaign, Joseph E. Johnston commands the Confederate forces. William T. Sherman commands the Union forces. Sherman has much larger numbers, to the point that he actually commands multiple Union armies; the largest of these by far is George Henry Thomas' Army of the Cumberland. However, this is mainly an organizational thing; Sherman uses forces from different armies interchangeably. The Atlanta Campaign began with Confederate forces defending a strong defensive position at Rocky Face Ridge, just west of Dalton; however, Union forces discovered that there was an undefended pass at Snake Creek Gap that could enable them to outflank the Confederates. While they did outflank the Confederates, they failed to cut the line of retreat (due to Sherman not listening to Thomas' advice and McPherson, the guy leading the outflanking force, panicking), allowing Johnston to fall back to Resaca. At Resaca, Union forces launched a frontal assault (again against Thomas' advice), leading to the two-day Battle of Resaca; however, the battle proved indecisive and effectively irrelevant. A small Union column crossed the Conasauga River below Resaca, forcing Johnston to retreat again or risk being cut off. Johnston fell back to the town of Calhoun, some distance south of Resaca on the south bank of the Conasauga.
Calhoun proved a poor defensive position; there was nothing on which to anchor Confederate flanks, and the Confederate position was split by the Oothkalooga Creek. Looking for a better defensive position on his maps, Johnston found one at Adairsville. Both the main road and the railroad south of Calhoun ran through Adairsville, but unlike at Calhoun, they ran through a valley with difficult hilly terrain on either side, with the Oothkalloga Creek to one side. This was a much better defensive position, so the Confederates fell back to Adairsville and established a defensive line. Indeed, when leading forces of Howard’s 4th Corps arrived at Adairsville, their leading elements were repulsed by Johnston’s new line in the Battle of Adairsville.
However, looking at the maps, Johnston now began to consider an alternate plan. The repulse of 4th Corps meant that he had broken contact with Sherman, while Adairsville was a much wider valley then his maps had shown, reducing its defensive potential. South of Adairsville, there were two roads. One road, along with the railroad, ran southwest to Kingston; the other ran south to Cassville. From Kingston, the railroad looped back towards Cassville, crossing the Etowah River south of Cassville at the town of Cartersville. This gave Johnston an idea. Meeting with his three corps commanders and chief of staff on the evening of May 17, Johnston laid out his plan. Hood’s and Polk’s Corps would move south along the road to Cassville, while Hardee’s Corps would move southwest along the railroad to Kingston. Hardee’s Corps would make sure to leave behind plenty of signs of which direction they had taken, while Hood’s and Polk’s Corps would move quietly. From Kingston, Hardee would move back along the railroad to join with the rest of the army at Cassville, concentrating the Confederate army at Cassville. Hopefully, Sherman would be fooled by this, and would think the bulk of the Confederate army had in fact moved to Kingston. Sherman could then be expected to move his main force on Kingston, while sending a smaller force to try to cut the railroad near Cassville. The Confederates would then have their entire army against only a portion of the Union army, with the element of surprise. They could rout this portion of the Union army, and deal a heavy blow to Sherman’s numerical superiority, hopefully enabling them to continue the defense of Atlanta with advantage. It would require abandoning Adairsville, but it promised to deliver a decisive battle. The plan was put into motion, and the Confederate forces moved out of Adairsville that night.
The next morning, the deception worked perfectly. Convinced that the Confederate forces had retreated to Kingston, Sherman set most of his army on the road to Kingston; only Schofield’s 23rd Corps and Hooker’s 20th Corps moved towards Cassville, while the Union cavalry moved towards Cartersville. By evening on May 18, Johnston was in position at Cassville; Sherman was just north of Kingston with the bulk of his army. Johnston’s corps commanders urged an attack on Hooker’s and Schofield’s corps that night, but Johnston decided to wait to launch the attack until the next morning, unwilling to lose the element of surprise for a dusk attack.
Morning dawns on May 19, 1864. Union forces enter Kingston to find it abandoned. Sherman, now convinced that the Confederates had retreated across the Etowah, split his remaining forces in two, sending Howard’s 4th Corps and Baird’s division of 14th Corps with Thomas towards Cassville, while sending McPherson’s Army of the Ohio and Johnson’s division of 14th Corps to capture the crossings south of Kingston. Meanwhile, 20th Corps approached Cassville from the north along the Adairsville Road, while 23rd Corps was slightly farther behind and to the east on the Sallacoa Road. Johnston deployed his three corps at Cassville; Hardee’s Corps was left to watch the Kingston Road, while Polk’s and Hood’s Corps would cross Two Run Creek and attack the isolated Union forces. The plan was for Hood’s Corps to launch a surprise attack on 20th Corps, followed by Polk’s Corps arriving on the flank; once 20th Corps was broken, these two corps would fall on 23rd Corps. Meanwhile, Hardee would hold off any approaching Union forces along the Kingston Road until Polk’s and Hood’s corps were done, at which point they would join him, and the plan would be decided from there. Sherman had walked directly into this plan. 20th Corps would be subjected to a surprise attack and then a flank attack outnumbered two-to-one; 23rd Corps would then, in turn, be attacked outnumbered two-to-one. The corps-and-a-half Sherman had sent towards Cassville was a small enough force that Hardee could likely hold it off, and the remainder of his army was too separated to arrive in time. Johnston had the perfect setup to deal a crushing blow to the Union army. The Battle of Cassville, though by no means a sure Confederate deal, was a perfect opportunity, the best they would get in the Atlanta Campaign by far. I have left out only one detail; where’s the Union cavalry?
And here comes the potential point of divergence. On the morning of May 19, as Hood’s Corps begins to move to the attack, one of his staff officers noticed a column of troops approaching up the Canton Road to their east. The Union cavalry had gone further to the east than the infantry and now, by sheer coincidence, had arrived in the perfect spot to threaten the Confederate right and rear. In truth, the cavalry posed no real threat to the Confederate forces - the cavalry force, consisting of Stoneman’s and McCook’s cavalry divisions, was under 4,000 men strong and unprepared for infantry combat. In addition, the Union cavalry - especially Stoneman’s division - would later prove themselves of fairly low quality. However, Hood didn’t know the size of this force, or even whether it was cavalry or infantry; he only knew that there was an unexpected Union force approaching his flank and rear. With little choice, Hood paused his corps’ movement and informed Johnston of the approaching force. Shortly afterwards, Mackall (Johnston’s chief of staff) arrived, and told Hood that Union forces were also moving in from the west; if Hood wanted to attack, he had to do so immediately. Unwilling to risk the unknown force coming from the east getting in his rear, Hood instead decided to fall back to cover the Canton Road. This move, in turn, was spotted by Hooker’s corps, which quickly deployed and fortified. The best opportunity the Confederates would get during the entire Atlanta Campaign evaporated; Johnston had completely outgeneraled Sherman, and the coincidental arrival of two divisions of cavalry made it for nought.
With his plan ruined, Johnston decided to fall back to a strong ridgeline south of Cassville; he would still fight a defensive battle here. At noon, Union forces began to arrive on the field from the direction of Kingston, running into Hardee’s Corps deployed for battle; the shocked forces were relieved to see Hardee’s forces retreating instead of attacking. By 5:30 PM, Sherman and the Union artillery were on the field, and Johnston’s ridgeline proved severely vulnerable to artillery fire. That night, Polk told Johnston that his corps would not be able to stand for an hour if the artillery barrage resumed. Johnston remained convinced that the position was defensible, but believing that his corps commanders’ fears would inevitably spread to the troops and leave them demoralized, Johnston agreed to retreat. At midnight, the Confederates began falling back again, reaching Cartersville on the morning of May 20. Sherman still believed that he had only faced a rearguard and that the bulk of the Confederate army had already retreated earlier; as such, he sent only 23rd Corps in pursuit of the Confederates; this would have left them extremely vulnerable had the Confederates turned back and counterattacked, but they had no way of knowing that. At 8:45 pm, 23rd Corps reached the Etowah River to find the bridges destroyed and the Confederates over. With that, the whole area north of the Etowah was in Union hands.
Not only was the Battle of Cassville a tremendous lost opportunity, but it had cost the Confederates much land. The entire area between the Conasauga and the Etowah had fallen to the Union in only four days. The similar distance between the Etowah and the Chattahoochee would take two months; even accounting for the better defensive conditions there, that’s a major difference. Johnston had gambled, and his gamble had failed by the narrowest of margins. The best offensive chance the Confederates had throughout the entire Atlanta campaign had, by pure bad luck, become nothing more than a desultory skirmish. The Battle of Cassville could have been a turning point; even a Confederate defeat would likely have ended with vastly heavier Union losses on a scale that the Confederates would struggle to inflict the rest of the campaign. Instead, it was nothing but another brief stopping point on the road to Atlanta.
Cassville is my pick for the most underrated what-if of the American Civil War. I have never found it even mentioned in an alternate history context, but it provides such a fascinating point of divergence. If the cavalry had taken a different road, or if they had been delayed half an hour, a general battle would have followed, with all the possibilities a full battle brings. An entire battle arising that never happened historically is such a pregnant possibility for alternate history scenarios, and I hope that this post brings some attention to it.
My main source for this is Albert Castel’s
Decision in the West, specifically pages 194-209. The book is available to read for free
here (click "Borrow for 1 hour"), so you can take a look at the situation at Cassville yourself. I have simplified quite a bit here, and have not included a map; if you want to investigate further, that's the first place to start. Hopefully I have piqued your interest.

2023.03.22 11:00 HarrysGardenShed The state of UK democracy
So we ditched the EU because we wanted sovereignty. We wanted British laws, by British politicians, for the great British public.
This afternoon we are going to watch the last Prime Minister but one hauled before a committee of MPs to determine whether he knew he was lying to Parliament or not. The fact that he lied is not being disputed. The question is, can he prove whether or not he knew?
Firstly, since he was deposed, we have had not one, but two subsequent Prime Ministers. Each was voted for by no more that 160,000 members of the Conservative Party, out of an electorate of 46,560,452 (December 2021 figure).
Secondly, he is lying. Everybody knows it. It is his modus operandi. Boris Johnson lies like the rest of us eat and shit. It is a basic function, and inseparable from his personality. Our Parliamentary system is at odds with normal life, in that it is not permissible to call a liar a liar. They operate in the HoC on an honour system, whereby MPs can say what they want under a cloak of Parliamentary privilege. There are rules that say if you are caught, you must go back and correct the record as soon as possible. But you can still say it. Johnson intends to try to ride this out. He has a 50 page document, produced at the cost of millions of pounds, concocted by a team of hideously expensive lawyers paid for by the British tax payer.
So we have a former PM, caught lying, who cannot be called a liar. He is using our money to try to weasel his way out of the lies. He is relying on an ancient system of honour that he is trampling all over, and paving the way for liars in future to further devalue the system. Meanwhile, we have had two further PMs that nobody voted for.
How the fucking hell was the EU worse?

2023.03.22 10:46 crazedfishuk Coincidence or Charade?
Going through news sites today, I noticed that both the US and UK former leaders are being investigated/indicted for things they did or allowed during their tenure - Trump for the Stormy Daniels money and Johnson for knowingly allowing parties during lockdowns.
The fact that both of the investigations are happening simultaneously and side by side is odd so I wonder what they’re really trying to distract us from?

2023.03.22 08:11 autotldr Boris Johnson to vote against first part of new Brexit deal for Northern Ireland Politics News
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 40%. (I'm a bot)
Former prime minister Boris Johnson has said he is going to vote against Rishi Sunak's new Brexit deal for Northern Ireland.
The Windsor Framework was agreed by the prime minister and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on 27 February to change the way the Northern Ireland Protocol operates.
"The proposed arrangements would mean either that Northern Ireland remained captured by the EU legal order - and was increasingly divergent from the rest of the UK - or they would mean that the whole of the UK was unable properly to diverge and take advantage of Brexit," he said.
"Instead, the best course of action is to proceed with the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill, and make sure that we take back control."
The Northern Ireland Protocol was agreed by Mr Johnson as part of his "Oven ready" Brexit deal to prevent a hardening of the land border on the island of Ireland - which all sides agreed was necessary to preserve peace.
The Northern Ireland Protocol Bill is legislation Mr Johnson sought to pass when he was in Downing Street, which would have overridden parts of the Brexit deal he agreed.

2023.03.22 07:21 Tigreal Patch Notes 1.7.68 - Org. Server
From The Designers
For the upcoming March season, aside from the usual hero adjustments, we've also optimized the gameplay of some older heroes such as Layla and Freya. We hope they'll be back with a spring in their step, ready to shine upon the battlefield!
We've also optimized 6 lesser-used equipment (Sea Halberd, Necklace of Durance, Twilight Armor, Rose Gold Meteor, Blood Wings and Thunder Belt) and 2 Battle Spells (Aegis and Revitalize) to hopefully make them more viable options in battle.
Additionally, for the upcoming Season 28, we will be launching a new Mythic system with a new rank, new Display Logos for Mythic ranks, and optimized the Mythic Points system into the Stars system. Reach 25 and 50 stars in Mythic to get upgraded appearances for Mythic stars.
We've also optimized the Placement Match experience and added a new Mythic Rank Exclusive Skin Voting system (avaliable after reaching Mythic rank, vote for 1 out of 6 heroes).
Added "Road to Mythic" challenges at Mythic rank that will grant the S28 Profile Namecard Background and Personal Profile Background. Reach Mythical Glory rank to upgrade them. Good luck in the new season!
I. New & Revamped Heroes
[Revamped Hero: Courageous Warrior - Minsitthar]
[Spear of Glory] and [King's Calling] are Minsitthar's core skills, so we've kept their gameplay the same (with some optimizations) in this revamp.
In addition, we've redesigned his Skill 2 and Passive to provide more damage and control to his kit. This redesign focuses on maintaining his roaming role while exploring the possibility of taking the Exp Lane.
We've also given Minsitthar a complete makeover. With this revamp, the courageous warrior shall reclaim his rightful glory!
Hero Features: A courageous warrior who excels in battle with spear and shield.
[Passive: Mark of the King]
Minsitthar's Basic Attacks and skills apply a stack of Mark of the King. Upon reaching 5 stacks, the next attack will detonate all Marks to deal a large amount of damage and stun the target, and restore HP to Minsitthar.
[Skill 1: Spear of Glory]
When pulling back his spear, Minsitthar will pull all enemy heroes in its path to him.
[Skill 2: Shield Assault]
Minsitthar holds up his shield, reducing incoming damage from the front for a period of time.
While in this stance, Minsitthar's Basic Attacks will hit all enemies in a rectangular area and have increased Attack Speed.
[Ultimate: King's Calling]
Minsitthar's Ultimate now prevents all enemies in its area from using all movement abilities.
Summoned Royal Guards can also trigger Minsitthar's equipment effects with their attacks.
Slightly increased the cast range.
Reduced the effect's duration.
II. Hero Adjustments
The following heroes have undergone significant adjustments in this patch: Joy, Freya, Layla, Wanwan, Badang, Esmeralda and Eudora.
The following uses (↑) (↓) (~) to indicate Buff, Nerf, and Adjustment.
[Joy] (~)
Joy has impressive durability, but her burst potential is a bit lacking in the mid-to-late game. As such, we're making it harder for her to gain durability while increasing her damage to fit her role as an Assassin.
[Passive] (~)
Removed the shield effect.
New Effect: Joy's skills now deal an additional instance of damage each time they hit a non-Minion unit.
[Skill 2] (~)
Max Uses: 5 >> 4
New Effect: Gain a shield when hitting on beat.
[Ultimate] (~)
Number of Skill 2 casts required to unlock: 5 >> 4
New Effect: Gain Physical & Magic Defense during Ultimate.
Damage increase after hitting on beat: 30% >> 40% (max damage when hitting all beats is the same)
[Freya] (↑)
While Freya has great sustainability, she plays more or less the same as other heroes that rely on Basic Attacks. So, we're making it easier for her to chain her skill combos, and in some circumstances, indefinitely. We're also improving the feel of Spirit Combo and Leap of Faith, and that of Freya's combos as a whole. Her shield and damage in the early-mid game have been adjusted to keep things balanced.
[Skill 1] (~)
Skill 1 is no longer enhanced by Sacred Orb nor does it cost any Sacred Orbs.
Can move through obstacles more easily.
[Skill 2] (↑)
Skill casts needed to trigger leaping strike: 3 >> 2
Reworked how the cooldown works: Cooldown is no longer triggered after the leaping strike, instead it triggers after not continuing to cast the skill within a certain period.
Slightly reduced the foreswing time of the leaping strike.
Airborne Duration: 0.5s >> 0.4s
Base Damage: 130-230 (+90% Total Physical Attack) >> 20-230 (+90% Total Physical Attack)
Final Damage: 156-276 (+108% Total Physical Attack) >> 26-276 (+108% Total Physical Attack)
Shield: 160-260 (+70% Extra Physical Attack) >> 60-260 (+70% Extra Physical Attack)
[Layla] (↑)
As a Marksman without Blink, Layla has trouble with survivability. We hope the following changes will allow her to kite enemies more efficiently and increase her skill cap. We've reduced a bit of her damage to balance these buffs.
[Basic Attack & Skills] (↑)
Greatly reduced backswing time to allow her to move and attack more efficiently.
[Attribute] (↓)
Physical Attack Growth: 9 >> 7.5
[Passive] (↓)
Maximum Damage Increase: 135% >> 130%
[Skil 2] (↑)
Changed the slow effect from mark detonations to a 0.25s AOE stun.
Only marks the first target hit.
[Wanwan] (~)
With fewer Weaknesses to hit, more players have been enjoying Wanwan, but it also made it harder for her opponents to counter her Ultimate. Therefore, we want to make it easier to escape her Ultimate while not affecting her power. After the changes, the locked target can more easily get out of lock range, and frontline heroes can move to block Wanwan's crossbow attacks to tank the damage. To compensate, we buffed Wanwan's damage, and how much she gains from Movement Speed bonuses in the early and mid game (Wanwan should get extra Movement Speed to take advantage of this).
[Passive] (↑)
All Weaknesses Hit Damage: 55-97 >> 70-112
[Ultimate] (↓)
Lock Range: 8.5 >> 6
Speed Boost while in the air: 10% Total Movement Speed >> 100% Extra Movement Speed
[Badang] (↓)
Badang has become too dominant in this version with the buff to Knockback effects. We've moderately reduced his damage in the early and mid game for balance.
[Skill 1] (↓)
Base Damage: 160-260 >> 125-225
Explosion Damage: 120-195 >> 100-175
[Ultimate] (↓)
Base Damage: 80-140 >> 60-120
Explosion Damage: 40-70 >> 30-60
[Esmeralda] (↑)
We've slightly increased Esmeralda's damage to make her more competitive compared to other Exp Laners.
[Basic Attack] (↑)
First Damage: 80% Physical Attack >> 100% Physical Attack
Second Damage: 100 +55% Magic Power >> 100 +75% Magic Power
[Skill 2] (↑)
Cooldown: 5.5-3.5s >> 4.5-3.5s
[Eudora] (↑)
We want players to be able to use Eudora's skills based on the situation, instead of always starting with Skill 2.
[Attributes] (↑)
HP Growth: 142.5 >> 160.5
[Skill 2] (↑)
Orb of Lightning bounce's Stun Duration: 0.6s >> 0.9s
[Lesley] (↑)
We've slightly buffed Lesley's damage because the meta has been favouring Attack Speed Marksmen.
Passive (↑)
Base Damage:50 >> 75
[Skill 1] (↑)
Cooldown: 5-3s >> 4-2.5s
[Paquito] (↑)
We've slightly buffed Paquito's durability in the mid and late game to fit his role as a fighter.

III. Battlefield Adjustments
[New Map]
The brand-new map "Harmonia" is available free for a limited-time! Featuring a new design, with new models, effects, and more. And the "Harmonia" Lord is stepping into the fray, too. Check it out!
[Lord] (↑)
The Enhanced Lord can now use Turret Clash against all turrets it encounters after the 12-minute mark, instead of only the first one.
[Equipment]
[Sea Halberd] (↑)
We don't want Physical Damage heroes to lose much damage output when using this equipment.
[Unique Passive - Punish] (New)
Increase damage by 8% against enemy heroes with more extra HP than you.
[Necklace of Durance] (↑)
Optimized the build path to better fit some mages and supports.
[Build Path]
Mystic Container >> Elegant Gem (Necklace of Durance attributes modified accordingly)
[New Passive] (↑)
Gift (the effect is the same as Elegant Gem)
[Twilight Armor] (Revamped)
We've noticed that most tanks focus on absorbing damage instead of dealing damage, so we've changed this equipment to help against burst damage and also made it more versatile.
[Unique Passive - Twilight] (Revamped)
When taking more than 600 damage in a single hit, the excess amount will be reduced by 300 +5% of Max HP. Cooldown: 5s.
[Rose Gold Meteor] (↑)
Rose Gold Meteor has been overshadowed by Athena's Shield, so we've changed its function to help heroes escape when the passive triggers.
[Attributes] (↑)
Physical Lifesteal: 5% >> 10%
[Build Path] (~)
Magic Blade + Dagger >> Magic Blade + Vampire Mallet
[Unique Passive - Lifeline] (↑)
Shield: 510-1350 >> 840-1820
Removed Effect: Increase Magic Defense by 25 for 3s when triggered.
New Effect: Increase Movement Speed by 50% when triggered, the effect decays over 3 seconds.
Cooldown: 40s >> 60s
[Magic Blade] (↑)
[Unique Passive - Lifeline] (↑)
Shield: 280-700 >> 420-910
Removed Effect: Increase Magic Defense by 12 for 3s when triggered.
New Effect: Increase Movement Speed by 50% when triggered, the effect decays over 3 seconds.
Cooldown: 40s >> 60s
[Blood Wings] (↑)
Optimized Effect: Now when the shield is attacked, it will be restored after 30s even if it's not destroyed.
Cooldown: 30s >> 20s
New Effect: Increase Movement Speed by 30 when shield is active.
[Thunder Belt] (↑)
Thunder Belt is too costly for roaming tanks, so we're reducing its price and boosting its Mana Regen.
[Cost] (↑)
2290 >> 1990
[Attributes] (↑)
Mana Regen: 6 >> 10
[Clock of Destiny] (↓)
Reduced the survivability it granted to burst damage mages.
[Attributes] (↓)
HP: 625 >> 500
[Unique Passive - Time] (↓)
Each stack grants 20 HP (was 25).
[Ice Queen Wand] (↑)
Increased the survivability it granted to sustained damage mages.
[Attributes] (↑)
New: 300 HP
Removed: 150 Mana
[Fleeting Time] (↑)
Optimized Effect: Certain heroes with Ultimates that enter cooldown after their duration is over now also gain cooldown reduction from kills and assists during their Ultimate's duration.
Includes: Faramis, Yve, Luo Yi, Leomord, Baxia, Hanzo, Granger, Edith, Aldous.
[Dominance Ice] (↑)
We want this piece of equipment to be more effective against heroes with high attack speed.
[Unique Passive - Arctic Cold] (↑)
The attack speed reduction is now calculated after all attack speed bonuses.
Lowers nearby enemy heroes' Attack Speed to: 75% >> 70%
[Black Ice Shield] (↑)
[Unique Passive - Arctic Cold] (↑)
The attack speed reduction is now calculated after all attack speed bonuses.
Lowers nearby enemy heroes' Attack Speed to: 90% >> 85%
[Battle Spells]
We've adjusted [Aegis] and [Revitalize] to more clearly differentiate them from [Vengeance]. Heroes of different roles should now have more viable choices for defensive Battle Spells.
[Aegis] (↑)
Aegis works well enough to protect heroes with low HP in the early game, but the shield is too flimsy in the mid and late game compared to how much hero damage ramps up.
Shield: 750 + 50Hero Level >> 750 + 90Hero Level
Removed the effect of granting shield to nearby allied hero.
Cooldown: 90s >> 75s
[Revitalize] (~)
The effect will now move with its caster, making it more suitable for Supports.
[Role Adjustments]

I've recently started tadalifil at a little over .5ml a day (before I workout) and noticed I might or might not be having an allergic reaction to it. My Johnson (male area) and sack has started to get blisters and peel after nearly each use, especially places after I scratch or… I don't know what it's from or what to do. Thoughts? 2023.03.22 03:26 Lyst83 Thespian Daughter
Hello! I hope it’s okay for me to ask this here. Please delete if not, or let me know and I’ll delete it.
My daughter (13) has just recently gotten into theater at school. Last year she was in the middle school production of Beauty & the Beast and this year she had the opportunity to audition (as an 8th grader) for a small part in an upcoming high school play. She will be playing someone’s son in Aesop’s (Oh So Slightly) Updated Fables.
I was wondering if anyone had any cool ideas for a wrap gift? I’d like to get her something related to the play, I think, but I’m having trouble coming up with ideas. I was browsing Betsy Johnson jewelry and saw some owls and rabbits and turtles as earrings, but wasn’t sure if that was a good idea or not. I’m not looking for anything crazy expensive, but I do want to show her how proud of her I am. She auditioned for this part last minute with no preparation and as she has dyslexia that was a huge deal for her. She likes to have time to study the lines before she auditions, but she went and did it on a whim and snagged a part for herself. I am just beyond proud of her for that.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

2023.03.22 02:49 Animeking1108 Supervillains can't carry their own movie
Or, to be more specific, they can't carry their own movie when it's their debut in the film franchise, and they're already heroes/anti-heroes before they could even meet their nemesis.
I was inspired to do this rant in the aftermath of Shazam 2's underperformance. Today, WB claimed that Dwayne Johnson vetoed a cameo from Zachary Levi as Captain Sparkle Fingers in the Black Adam movie. He insisted on fighting Superman instead. Johnson claimed he was a fan of Black Adam and campaigned to play the role, and yet he insisted on never interacting with the character Black Adam was meant to be the evil counterpart to. Say what you will about the Venom movies, but at least Venom's nemesis from the comics actually cameoed in the second movie, even if that led to a Nothing Burger with a side order of zilch at the drive thru of Jack-In-The-Shit.
There was one thing I gathered from this revelation: making a Black Adam movie before having him fight Captain Lawsuit was a bad idea. It felt like a prequel to a movie that already exists, except WB forgot to make that movie. Unfortunately, The Rock didn't want to play second banana, so WB tried to do everything in their power to make Black Adam the DCEU's answer to Loki. However, Loki was in enough movies as the antagonist or supporting character for the audience to give a shit about him before finally making his solo series.
Speaking of the DCEU, let's look at another character they gave this treatment to: Harley Quinn. With her debut in Suicide Squad, it feels like we missed a movie or two. We never get to see how horrible Harley and Joker's relationship is, which wasn't helped by the Joker having less screentime than a blind boomer. However, in Harley Quinn, Featuring The Birds Of Prey, she already broke up with him and she's already an anti-heroes.
My final subject for this rant is Venom (I don't have enough familiarity with Morbius in the comics to rant about his movie). Now, Tom Hardy was a decent Eddie Brock (certainly better than Eric Foreman in an alien gimp suit), and as a stand alone film franchise, Venom could do worse. However, as a proper adaptation of Venom, it's more mid than the Equator. What made Eddie Brock a compelling character was the tragedy that led to him becoming Venom and his journey from a villain to an anti-hero. In the movie, he lost his job because of his own stupidity, he doesn't get diagnosed with cancer, Spider-Man is nowhere to be seen, and he starts the movie as a genuine hero. Not a villain or even an anti-hero. Sure, the Symbiote eats people, but it's out of necessity, and he only saves it for villains. In the second movie, Eddie reprimands the Symbiote for even wanting to eat a mugger.
