I bought my first tube amp today! (And I hate it)
A little context: During the memorial day sales I landed a deal on a used Fender Blues Jr IV (western tolex with the Cannabis Rex) for about $500 taxed and delivered. Today it arrived so I was super stoked and I open it up and I’m immediately shocked by how much better it looks in person. Add to that it seemed to be in pristine condition, (protective sticker still on the fender plate). I plug it in, set everything to noon aaaaaand immediately dislike what I’m hearing. I then EQ it the way I like and set it to get some breakup and it sounds fine but not great. After a little research I dime the master volume and use the other volume knob as my volume and that seemed to open up the amp a lot more and got me a sound I enjoyed but it didn’t seem much better (if at all better) than my Fender Princeton Chorus. I thought it might be in my head so I plug back into my PC and wow. It is instantly apparent that it sounds way fuller, dynamic, and just much more…open haha (describing sounds with words is hard). I hadn’t even considered what a difference it is to go from a 2x12 to a 1x12 but damn was it apparent when switching between the two amps today. I primarily wanted a tube amp because I wasn’t fully satisfied with the way my Princeton Chorus was taking my OD pedals but man was I underwhelmed with the Blues Jr. Even the reverb felt pretty lacking compared to the cheap Mod reverb tank in my PC. Comparing the two amps the Blues Jr. just sounds really boxy and closed and far less dynamic sonically and doesn’t fill the room the way the Princeton Chorus does. I really wanted to love the Blues Jr. but as much as I like looking at it, I dislike playing it just as much. The plus side is that it made me love my Princeton Chorus even more. The plan was always to keep both but I’m 99% sure the Blues Jr. is going back and I’ll be rolling with the Princeton for awhile longer. Silver lining is that I’m thinking about using that Blues Jr money towards finally picking up a Worn Epiphone Casino haha. Anyway, am I the only one who’s “upgraded” to a tube amp from a solid state only to go back to a solid state? Is this just a Blues Jr. thing? Is it a 2x12 vs 1x12 thing? Is the speaker not broken in (even though it’s used)? Are my ears just wrong? Curious to hear others thoughts opinions, and experiences.
TL;DR I bought my first tube amp only to realize how much I love my solid state amp and it doesn’t make sense to me that the SS sounds significantly better than the tube amp.

I’m Suing Meepo
As the title says, I’m going to be pressing legal action against Meepo if this can’t be resolved without a dime from my pocket.
I’m a “proud” owner of a v4 shuffle, and have owned it for two years. I’m a stickler when it comes to warranty and following directions according to the owner’s manual so what happened today came as a complete shock.
After shutting my board off, I grabbed my charger (like I have 100+ times before) and went to plug it into the bottom side of the board (mind you I always follow the direction of not having the charger plugged into an outlet first).
The second the charger & port connected a flash that can only be described to be as bright as welding flashbanged my eyes that was followed by a burning pain on my hand. When my vision finally settled I looked down to see my hand that was holding the charger was now burned. Out of fear I threw my board outside with my other hand in anticipation for a fire.
While I’m a little beat up, I took the time to send Meepo a lengthy email about the incident in hopes that this could potentially help someone from meeting the same fate as I did. I also let them know that my first intention isn’t to seek legal representation, but instead get a replacement board/ charger as mine is very obviously faulted.
Well, to my surprise I received the very short response of;
“Thanks for your message
Meepoboard provides a 6 month warranty for boards and a 3 month warranty for parts (*when customers buy the parts separately) which starts from the day the package is delivered to customers. It turns out that your warranty has already expired. I am sorry that we could not send you free replacements. As a gesture of good will, we would like offer 20% discount to you purchase the new parts.
Thank you, and please let us know if there is anything else that we could help.”
If they are trying to call a “bluff” it’s not going to work. One more email to them, and then I’m going to pursue legal action if this can’t be resolved. This wasn’t normal wear and tear, this was a catastrophic failure that resulted in injury. Honestly I’m disgusted in their reply.
