2023.06.03 01:57 ThrowRAsdfgk Family and girlfriend freaking out about my weight loss, do they have a point?

I'm 178lbs, 6'3. Diet is controlled and healthy and I work out daily. My highest weight was probably 250-260 ish and I'm currently working on my goal of being below 10% body fat. I think I'm around 12-13% at the moment, so I'm hoping my final weight will be around 170.
Since I got under 200 my family have been upset about me "starving myself". Obviously I don't, I eat a healthy balanced diet, but there are many foods I won't touch for various reasons. I only eat whole, unprocessed foods and I like to weigh things so I know the calorie count before eating it. It's not mandatory but for a larger meal I need to have some idea otherwise it messes up my whole day. I'm just someone who likes detail and tracking.
I'm visiting my grandparents at the moment with my family and the food situation has me very stressed. I try to refuse food but my gran gets very worried and upset if I don't eat it, so to make her happy I ate some food that I would never normally eat on the first night. It was mac and cheese, her home cooked version which is amazing and I ate far too much of it to the point where I was in a minor panic. I had to go back and run for like an hour to work it off.
Second night I said I couldn't eat anything and she was clearly upset. She is already worried about my weight loss and now thinks I'm "anorexic" which is a bit funny as I'm a 29 year old man, but I don't want to worry her. I ate a lot of salad so it looked like I was eating but I barely ate anything (she made these pizzas which looked so good, but I know I can't).
Gf also kinda worried. She keeps talking about how thin I am and trying to give me food which I can't eat. She's sad that we can't do food things together anymore and she feels judged whenever she eats anything I wouldn't. I try not to make her feel that way but she is becoming more like me, she started tracking calories and weighing herself and restricting her diet. She's a healthy weight so she doesn't need to diet hard like I needed to, but I think I made a mistake ealry on by suggesting she could "lose fat and gain muscle" and talking about her diet a few times. Now she is clearly insecure around me and hides her body. Idk if she's actually concerned about me or just insecure about herself and if I'll leave her now I'm more confident and attractive (have no plans for that).
To people who didn't know me before, i get positive attention for my looks but for people who are used to me fat it is almost totally negative now. I even had some guy friends reach out to check up on me. I'm starting to wonder if I really do look as thin and unwell as people seem to think, but then I look in the mirror and I see a fit and healthy guy with a little bit of excess stomach fat and skin I would like gone. So idk what the reality is. I'm a healthy weight and bmi and bf% don't lie, so objectively I know I look fine, but I never expected losing weight to cause so many issues in my life.

2023.06.03 01:18 Stinninnerinn Today I burned 1321 Calories and have eaten 1300 calories. Count's as I haven't eaten?

Hi. Today I burned 1321 calories and have eaten approximately 1300 calories on 5 hours of sleep. Does the fact that I have burned the same amount as I've eaten count as 0 calorie intake?
How those calories got burned: I work in a woodworking shop so I move around quite a lot during the day, work was from 07:30 - 14:30. Ate about 300 calories at lunch (Banana at 09:30 and 200g KEA Skyr at lunch). Went home after work to do a little personal wood working project and then went to the gym at 16:00 to do strength training (Workout Time was 45 minutes, 93BPM AVG heart rate). Took a 10m sauna. Downed a protein shake, then went to the mall to do a bit of shopping and ate dinner at 19:00. At 21:23 I went on a bike ride (53 minutes workout time, 16.80km, 154 AVG heart rate). Straight after the bike ride I played Frisbee Golf (23 minutes workout time, 1.37km, 141 AVG heart rate).
Now at 23:08 I am writing this and I really want to get high and eat Dominos pizza and have a beer (Viking/Gull Lite)
I know I should eat more and get about 2000 calories in. However Dominos pizza has 1800 Calories + sides = 800 calories + beer = 109 calories = 2700 calories. I shouldn't but I want to. Cheat day is tomorrow and I am going to ride my bike to a mountain (7.8km) and hike the mountain (338 Elevation, 73 meters high). Cheat day consists of about 300grams of gummy candy!
I am 69.5kg male, 178cm. 22y

2023.06.03 00:38 unknowncinch Tomorrow I finish a self-imposed 30 day vegetarian meal plan. Surprisingly easy, + my new favorite recipe

I don't have much to say about it all, especially to a community which largely adheres to a vegetarian diet 365 days a year, but I thought I'd make a post anyways (if not for anyone other than myself).
TL;DR: Surprisingly easy. I expected to struggle with meal planning, but the only thing I struggled with was remembering not to eat meat when buying prepared food/fast food. I was also surprised by how unappetizing meat-replaced recipes and meals were.
So yeah, I was surprised by how easy it was. In 2023, there's vegetarian recipes and meal inspiration everywhere, so i didn't struggle to find meals like I thought I would. In the past, the only thing that really held me back from doing this was this idea that I had to find A WHOLE LIST of vegetarian recipes before I even started the 30 days. To be honest, I kind of forgot that I was planning on doing veg-for-30-days until May 3rd (hence why tomorrow is my "last day"), and just happened to make myself a veg recipe for my weekly meal prep. It was a "well, might as well," decision that started it off, rather than the impeccable planning I thought I needed.
Turns out, the hardest part of eating vegetarian for 30 days was remembering I was eating vegetarian for 30 days lol. I got thisclose to buying non-veg food every few days (though I'm a very forgetful person by nature), mostly when buying fast food or prepared food from stores/restaurants. The closest I got (and it should be noted that I am not counting this as breaking the 30 days) was tasting a shredded chicken recipe I made for my boyfriend (I cook, he cleans) for seasoning. I realized immediately and spit it out, though, so still counts in my books!!
The other thing that surprised me was how unappetizing meat-replacement recipes were. I use pinterest for meal inspiration, and there was an unending scroll of "Beef tacos you won't believe are 100% vegetarian!" or "Shredded chicken... made out of jackfruit?" or "Mushroom steaks with gravy that taste like the real thing!" I have a few friends who have been vegetarian or vegan for years if not decades, and I remember one of my close friends responding to an article I sent her back in college about Beyond Meat, back when it was brand new. I expected her to be like, ah that's cool, good way to get more people on board with vegetarianism, but she was like I hate meat, I don't like the taste, I don't like the texture, I don't want anything adjacent to it, and that was the first time I really thought about a vegetarian diet being something a lot more than just removing meat from your diet (like in a "defined by what it is" instead of "defined by what it isn't" kind of way).
When I was looking for recipes to cook (since I do a meal-prep style of cooking 2 recipes every week), I thought back to that conversation every time I saw those dumb recipes. I just... don't really want meat that much. There are plenty of vegetarian frozen meals, quick and easy recipes, protein-full ingredients and delicious combos that just don't require meat.
Also beans rule. One day i'll write my Ode to Chickpeas.
I will say, vegan would be way harder in my opinion. That doesn't mean I won't try in the future, but I think a lot of the difficulties I expected to have with a vegetarian diet might be true for a vegan diet. Maybe not, but that's for another 30-day meal plan (and another subreddit).
For now, I'll say this: If you are considering doing a 30-day vegetarian diet and have never done one before, just do it. No "buts" about it, just start it. It doesn't take any kind of special prep (UNLESS you have any medical concerns or other restrictions that I can't even fathom), just start it. It's a great way to find yourself re-inspired with cooking vegetables if you, like me, sometimes forget how amazing and easy it is to include them in your diet.
And finally, I'll leave you with this: the recipe so good that I made it twice in the 30 days and ate it for a total of 8 days in a row.
Fried Cheese and Chickpeas in Spicy Tomato Gravy, adapted from NYTimes Cooking.
Ingredients:
Recipe:
  1. Heat a large saucepan or skillet until water dances on the metal instead of evaporating quickly. Add a few tsp of oil to coat the pan, then fry the slices of cheese until golden, 1-1.5 minutes per side. Remove the cheese and set aside
  2. lower the heat to medium-low, then add another few tsp of oil. Add the onions and shallot and allow them to cook until softened, 2-3 minutes. Add the cinnamon stick, turmeric, ginger, and garlic and stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Deglaze the pan with the soy sauce, then quickly add in gochujang and oligodang/honey and stir to mix.
  3. Pour in the can of tomatoes and chickpeas (including the aquafaba, aka chickpea liquid) and reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer for 5-10 minutes, or until the flavors infuse with the chickpeas.
  4. Place the fried cheese on top, cook for another 1-2 minutes to reheat the cheese, then serve over rice.
Adaptations make this a more Asian-inspired flavor profile than the original, which is just how I tend to cook with ingredients around my kitchen. I cooked both the original and this adaptation, and loved them both, which is why I included the original recipe ingredients. I had it with halloumi the first time I made it, following the recipe exactly, then with paneer the second time and both were fabulous.
If you read this far, honestly I'm impressed. Thanks for sticking around!

First batch of NY style on the pizza steel
I experimented a little bit with sauce, cheese and crunch levels, but overall quite happy with the outcome.
This was a 60% hydration, 1hr RT ferment then 48 hour cold ferment. Baked on a steel at 530f and finished under the broiler. My peel hasn’t arrived yet so used a screen for first 2 mins of bake so the pizza set and then slid it directly onto the steel.

2023.06.02 23:14 Piano_Away 35 [M4R] Texas - Has to be a dorky/goofy/nerdy woman here

I apologize as it's a bit of a novel and doesn't quite make grammatical sense in some spots. I can read goodly now and again lol. The reason it says M4R is because I mainly like women and trans women but I also like a very very very specific type of guy and certain trans men as I'm partially bi. Chances are you aren't that type but feel free to ask if you are. (Didn’t want to offend anyone so I’d rather say in private) Just throwing that out there as it's a deal breaker for most women. Which why would it be? The number one reason I get is I'm going to cheat on them with a guy. As if being bi has any bearing on cheating and not the persons character.
I'm a 35 year old guy living in the middle-ish of Texas looking for a female partner. Partner as in LTR. That's Long Term Relationship meaning boyfriend and girlfriend and holding hands type of stuff. You know, adult things? I had someone comment I was too vague so this is me being specific. I'm gonna be honest and kinda sad so bare with me.
So I spent New Years alone (I realize it's June lol but I have yet to meet someone and I think the story is still somewhat relevant). Rang in the New Year in bed staring at the ceiling listening to fireworks go off into the night. The next day I cried randomly while browsing for a movie to watch on TV. At first I didn't know why as I'm not much of a crier but I realized for the first time that I genuinely felt alone. I have no partner, no family that I speak to, no friends just acquaintances, really no one there for me. That's my own doing which took years to accomplish through me being closed off and just shutting people out, so I figure it might take just as long to fix. I'm not complaining as I got myself into this predicament. It's gonna sound dumb but I wanted a New Years kiss. I'd never had one and it seemed like a fun dumb silly thing to do. Eh maybe one day. Ok well back to my spiel. (I'm not depressed or anything or wanting attention) Some of my hobbies and interests are movies, reading, cooking, kayaking, records, video games, board games, snorkeling, bowling, swimming, escape rooms, puzzles and antiquing. I would describe myself as more goofy and dorky than nerdy. I like to go out and do fun things but also stay in and cuddle and relax. I guess it depends on my mood and the weather. I prefer the cold and would love to live in a state with actual seasons and snow. I'm 5'10, stocky AKA fat and open for adventure and new experiences.
Here are some random facts about me:
Some of my favorite bands are: The Black Keys, Kings of Leon, The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and The White Stripes.
Christmas is my favorite holiday, mainly because of the cold and festive activities.
I come from a medium-ish family.
I'm exceptionally patient but every person has a breaking point lol
I like traveling a lot. It's a basic thing that lots of people like. But I've found lots of people hate to leave their house, town or state so if that's you we probably might not be a good match. I also enjoy the mountains. But I don't like roughing it (give me that sweet AC in the summer). Hiking is so hard on my knees and I haven't done it in a while that if I were to I think about doing it I'd about die or twist a kankle.
I don't eat seafood, mushrooms, artichokes or pineapple on pizza (Who cares about this? Doesn't mean I won't go to a restaurant with you that has these things)
Never went to college as I'm horrible in a classroom setting and at taking tests.
Have probably the most boring job imaginable (Ask me about it)
Overweight but trying to work on it and make better choices (Get healthier and lose weight together maybe?)
Non religious but no issue with what you believe. (If anything)
Looking into sterilization. If you are already maybe you can give me some info or tips?
My own red flags 🚩
I work too much and oftentimes can't talk.
I send selfies often. I'm a visual person and like receiving photos. Apparently it's a generational thing. Hopefully you think pictures are neat as well? Is it really that weird to want to see you and your life and show you mine?
I sometimes speedily become attached to people, not in a weird way, but if I like you and we have some kind of connection, I will enjoy talking to you and want to do it often.
I'm a very organized person and will plan out pretty much anything from a vacation to a road trip to a birthday. This makes being with a go with the flow type of person hard at times I've learned but still very much doable.
Due to childhood trauma I'm secretive which can be annoying.
MY own "HELL YES" 🏁
I know how to cook.
I will always drive if you want. (Within reason)
Great at escape rooms and jigsaw puzzles.
Can read a map.
Decent at reading backwards upside down writing.
What I'm looking for:
Is my age or older. But I'm willing to go quite a bit lower if you are neat and we have stuff in common. But super young isn't my goal here.
Mature, considerate, responsible and funny (Dorky wouldn't hurt)
Someone who never cheats, honesty and trust are important to me.
Someone who is open-minded, willing to try new things, be adventurous, funny and nerdy.
Someone who believes in sharing household chores equally because we are both adults.
Be open and frank about issues you or I are having. Not pushy or jealous. Won't yell or argue about stupid things, I've had enough of that.
Willing to push me to become a better version of myself (Can you turn me into Batman?)
If this sounds like you then feel free to reach out and say hi or challenge me to a game of Scrabble/Pictionary/hand to hand combat maybe? Maybe Wordle or some online vidya game?
P.S. I realize my post isn't for everyone but if your seeing red flags from my post then I'd say trust your gut and please don't message me as we probably aren't compatible. I honestly don't mean that in a mean or hurtful way. I've just been messaged quite often with women saying they pushed aside red flags to get to know me. Please don't, it never ends well and you end up wasting both of our time. Wouldn't you rather spend it finding your person with no flags?

2023.06.02 23:03 Playful-Version-4684 Restaurants and delivery transparency

Just ordered from papa John’s, they charged a typical $5 delivery fee… when Dominos does this they say it’s not a contribution to the driver; it kinda is though as those drivers receive hourly pay. My pizza shows up from a door dasher. Wtf? I only tipped 15% because I thought it was a delivery driver getting an hourly wage and the tip is extra. Not granted the dude made $7 off 1.7 miles. But did he? Papa John’s pocketed the delivery fee for an employee they don’t have, and I tipped through the app so for all I know he didn’t get the full tip. I’m frustrated; if a restaurant is reliant on DD for delivery, that should be made transparent, and we should be informed exactly how much is going to the dasher and how much is getting pocketed by the business and DD.

2023.06.02 23:01 Piano_Away 35 [M4R] Texas - Maybe we'll think we're both neat?
