- * FICO Scores with source
- * Oldest credit card account age with you as primary name on the account: (example: 3 years - do NOT include cards you are an authorized user on)
- 4 years primary. 24 years authorized user.
- * Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 6 months:
- * Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 12 months:
- * Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 24 months:
- 2 (Corporate does not show on credit report, so excluding it here)
- * Annual income $:
CATEGORIES
- * OK with category-specific cards?:
- YES - I want a category specific card that provides 4%+ CASH back on resturants, bars, hotels, airfare, train, parking. I spend a very small amount of my spending in these categories but right now I am only getting 1.5% back on my Amex with these.
- * OK with rotating category cards?:
- Not ideal. Would consider if there is a good reason to.
- * Estimate average monthly spend in the categories below. Only include what you can pay by credit card.
- * Dining $: 100-200/month
- * Groceries $: 0 (6% back on Amex for this, so it is out of scope for this discussion)
- * Gas $: 50-100/month (3% back on Amex, but maybe could do better)
- * Travel $: $100/month train tickets, <$1000/year on airfare & hotels combined
- * Do you plan on using this card abroad for a significant length of time (study abroad, digital nomad, expat, extended travel)?:
- No. Fee free foreign currency would be nice though, I do travel abroad sometimes.
- * Any other categories (examples: phone/internet, insurance) or stores (example: Amazon) with significant, regular credit card spend (the more you specify, the better): $
- No. Goal here is travel/dining/airfare/hotel only.
- * Any other significant, regular credit card spend you didn't include above?: $
- * Can you pay rent by credit card? If yes, list rent amount and if there's a fee for paying by credit card: $
MEMBERSHIPS
- * Current member of Amazon Prime, Costco, Sam's Club, or a Verizon postpaid customer?:
- * Current member of Chase, US Bank or any other big bank?:
- CC w/ Chase but I do not bank at Chase.
- * Active US military?:
- * Are you open to Business Cards?: (these are an option if you have any kind of side gig, such as selling on eBay or Etsy)
PURPOSE
- * What's the purpose of your next card (choose ONE)?: (first credit card, balance transfer, saving money, travel rewards
- CASH BACK (I don't like points. I just want $). On spending that fits the following categories: dining, airfare, hotels
- * Do you have any cards you've been looking at?
- Looked at Amex Green and Gold. Both are points based cards, not cash back. Maybe I could get used to that, but I find cash back so much simpler. I also don't spend enough in these categories to justify an annual fee card.
- Looked at Citi Custom Cash card. Looks like 5% on highest spend category. This could be the ticket for me- and I'd just only use it for travel/hotel/airfare etc and thus it'd always be my highest category.
- edit: Looks like these are the categories. They separate out restaurants, travel, and transit. Not ideal, but I think an ok contender thus far.
>
5% eligible categories: Restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, select travel, select transit, select streaming services, drugstores, home improvement stores, fitness clubs, live entertainment.2
Thanks all.

I have a TD Bank Visa giftcard and i can't use it until i activate it. However,
the site that i am supposed to activate from loads insanely slow and i know it's not my internet because no other sites do this. This makes it constantly say "Link invalid" every time i try to activate the card or do much of anything at all. What can i do?

2021.05.11 17:18 Weaselbrott Remembering the TDBank Penny Arcade: The pinnacle of "Coinstar Finds"
Greetings fellow hunters. It has been a while since I've been active here or as a coin roll hunter, as life has been quite busy and plus COVID continues to keep me from going into public establishments.
This is one of the most exciting hobbies I've had, and its cool to share in the excitement with you all. I have scored some amazing jackpots (look up my post history), and mastered the art of the hunt, I am the sloppy edge-checking silver plucker. I would buy 5K in halves and spend a Saturday going through them, and then dumping the clad in my various dump bank's machines around town.
Back when I lived in the New York/New Jersey area, TDBank had their coin machines called the Penny Arcade (I'm sure a few of you remember these).
They were shut down due to issues with the counting of the machine, however as a good coin roll hunter, I always knew how much I was due back, and never lost more than a dollar or two in the extent of my heavy hunting days.
These machines were magical, and TDBanks with them plentiful. They had a "reject tube" that would spit out all sorts of treasure that follks wouldn't bother to check. This tube would often get clogged up with coins, many of which were silver! This made dumping coins around town as exciting as doing the search, and drastically increased the finds. Since these machines filled up at approximately $500, someone from the bank almost always had to change out. the bags while I was there. During that time, I would be able to claim any coins that were stuck at the back of this long PVC pipe. Over my stint with TDBank, I easily accumulated hundreds, if not over $1000 in silver, clad, and even gold and silver jewelry.
I miss the days of the TDBank Penny Arcades, and all the treasure in their reject tubes.
Happy Hunting my friends, and thanks for being a part of this little community!
Cheers!

2021.04.17 15:16 FatherPercy Player 2 Strategy Suggestions? Chase Ecosystem
Hey, everyone.
First, this sub has been absolutely monumental in getting me to take the dive into credit rewards, you all are seriously great!
I (P1, 32m) just started getting in to the credit card rewards game in January of this year. I've had cards before, but this is the first time that I've been intentional in how I use them for the benefit of me and my family. I opened a CFU (13,500) on 1/7, and a CSP (12,100) on 3/29 in branch with the AF waived, grocery credit, and 80k bonus, and I'm just a couple hundred away from completing the 4k spend on it. I've got good credit (809 Fico 8), but my wife (P2, 30f), has struggled to build and maintain her credit, sitting at 674 Fico 8. She's an AU on each of the Chase cards above, but I'd like to get her a Chase card or two in order to add to our points and continue building her credit. I was hoping she could get her own CSP with the signup bonus so we can combine points, but I don't think her credit score will merit it. Another strategy might be to apply for the Ink Business Cash, since we have a side hustle, and continue to build her credit up for a CSP down the road. The plan would be to PC to the extra cards down after the first year, as necessary. What do you think would be a good strategy going forward?

Retention Offers:
TD provides retention offers to clients who wish to cancel their credit card, the offer you will receive depends on which tier you fall into. Beware that reps will check if you have received a previous retention offer, and determine you are ineligible for a retention offer if you already have received an offer in the last 6 months. Offers will most often be a choice between points or a credit for the annual fee on your credit card. Keep in mind that data points suggest that you must be within 3 months of your annual fee posting date to receive an annual fee rebate offer. There are 4 tiers which you can be pooled in depending on what TD's systems have decided. There are currently no data points on what factors determine which tier you fall into. The 4 tiers are: "None", "Tier 1", "Tier 2", and "Tier 3". The order is as follows, Tier 1 provides the best retention bonuses and Tier 3 the lowest. If you happen to be in the "None" tier then TD will not offer you a retention bonus.
Examples of Retention Offers based on Tiers for TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite:
- Tier 1: 10k AP or 1-year annual fee waiver ($120)
- Tier 2: 8k AP or 1-year annual fee waiver ($120)
- Tier 3: 5k AP or half annual fee waiver ($60)
- None: No retention offer.

FAQ:
Q. Is it possible to churn TD Credit Cards?
- A. The short answer is Yes. TD's terms of service do not state that signup bonuses are once in a lifetime. However duplicate accounts that have been opened within 6 months of close will not be eligible for signup bonuses.
Q. Do I get the signup bonus from product transfers?
- A. In most cases yes, however, if you switch from one points family (ie. Aeroplan to TD points and then again back to Aeroplan) within 6 months you will not get the signup bonus the second time.
- Also, if you product transfer within the same family you will usually not get the points. An example would be switching from TD Aeroplan Platinum to TD Aeroplan Infinite.
Q. I don't have the minimum income required for the Visa Infinite cards, can I still obtain it?
- A. Yes, However, the process is tedious. You must have an existing TD credit card with a credit limit of at least 5k in order to product transfer to any of the Visa Infinite cards. If you already have a 5k limit then great, go ahead and product transfer, no income verification required. If you have a credit limit under 5k, then you must apply for a credit limit increase in order to have one of 5k before product switching. Beware this means you will get a hard pull unless you are pre-approved for a credit limit increase (call and ask). If you are granted a credit limit increase but still do not have the 5k minimum limit, then it is highly recommended to wait 6 months before applying for another credit limit increase.
Q. Many offers state that I have 3 months to make a certain dollar amount of purchases to my card in order to receive a bonus, from which day do the 3 months start?
- A. The 3 months start from the day that you are approved for your new TD Credit Card, not when you receive and activate your card.
Q. I don't want to pay the hefty annual fee on my TD credit card, is there any way to waive it without having to apply during a promo period?
- A. Yes. TD gives you the option to waive the annual fees on all its personal credit cards with the exception of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege. If you have an All-Inclusive Chequing Account with TD, then for as long as you hold the account, you will never have to pay the annual fee on TD's credit cards. For the TD US Dollar Visa, the annual fee can be waived by holding a TD Borderless US account. Note that both these accounts have their own respective monthly fees, however, those can be waived as well. By maintaining a balance of $5000 in your All-Inclusive Chequing Account every day of the month, you will be automatically rebated the $29.95 monthly fee. By maintaining a balance of $3000 USD in your Borderless Account every day of the month, you will be automatically rebated the $4.95 USD monthly fee.
Q. I just signed up for my TD Credit Card, when will my signup bonus points post?
- A. Data points suggest that you will receive "first purchase" bonuses upon the posting of your first statement. As for those with a minimum spend, it can take up to 8 weeks in order for the points to post to your account.
Q. I redeemed my TD points for a trip a few months ago and would like to cancel that trip, will I get my points back?
- A. If the redemption reversal is completed within 6 months of redeeming your TD points then yes, your TD points will be reversed. However, if it has been more than 6 months since your redemption then a points reversal is not possible.

2018.04.19 04:12 coljung Amex Global Transfer - My experience
Long post ahead!
This is more or less a description of how I did the GT, what i learnt on the way, and just a general overview.
I began wondering about US cards last fall, and upon finding a few good resources around ( mainly
pointsnerd blog series about US cards ), I decided to start the process.
Following more or less the first steps from the blog, I started by getting the letter required for the ITIN. It took around a week I believe to get the letter. Do note that at the moment, I'm not sure which method is viable to get said letter.
Next I went to get the official copy of my passport. I did go to a Service Canada location, but they said it can only be done at an actual Passport Canada office. I went there then and i got my letter around 10 days later.
Next step was just to fill and send the form required to the IRS. Nothing out of the ordinary, i followed the exact steps described on the blog and that was it. I sent the docs and maybe 6-8 weeks later I got my ITIN number. This was mid November.
I was planning a trip for January so i decided to wait until I came back, so i postponed the next steps.
To be honest i waited a bit longer and only continued the process a few weeks ago. Next stop was getting the bank account. I have both TD and RBC accounts, but i ended going with TD following the advice given here:
https://www.reddit.com/churningcanada/comments/7z5fko/daily_question_thread_for_rchurningcanada/dulvqvv/ I first opened my TD Daily Interest Chequing account online. Once that was done, i went to the link posted in that comment:
https://m.tdbank.com/personal-checking-ca.html and went ahead and opened a TD Convenience Account. I don't recall all the details about the application but i think it was pretty smooth.
I got my new debit card in the mail less than 2 weeks later. Then, trying to activate online was hard so i had to call in. This made things easier because when i was on the phone with the operator, I was able to give them my US address ( more on this next ), and change it on file. I think when i created the account I had to give my canadian address. One more thing I did was that when i created the account, I was given the choice to select my branch, so i picked the closest one from my US address.
Now, big exception about the US address in my case, both my brother and sister live in Florida, so that makes it a lot easier, as i dont have to rely on services like shipito or something like that. So when I activated my debit card, I gave them my brother's address and that was good to go, as this is the address i plan on using for all my applications.
Where I got a bit stuck was getting a US phone number. The google trick seems to not work anymore ( connect via VPN, create new google voice account, get number, redirect to my cad number, etc ). I spent a few hours trying to figure it out and was very discouraged after not finding an easy solution. Then a bunch of people mentioned that using your CAD # number is not an issue at all. So I left it like that and decided to use my current cellphone for the applications.
So now that all of that was ready, I began to look at options for cards. Get an idea of what to get and how to approach the GT application itself.
A few people recommended going with no AF cards, as you can basically keep them forever and will help you in the long run with your credit history. I think i heard the Simplicash being mentioned more than once, but basically any of the no AF cards would be a good start.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and I began looking at the SPG cards. Why?, because of the upcoming changes. I figured, if these cards are going to disappear ( who knows ), i rather get them now than not being able at all in the future. Going that way, I began to see what my options were with the Personal SPG.
I had read multiple times that you call GT and then tell them which card you want and they will process the application. BUT, recently I read a couple of DPs of people mentioning how you can apply online, using your ITIN, and then calling GT and completing the application with them.
Going back to the personal SPG, it's currently FYF ( $95 after ), then 25k points after a $3k spend. Not bad, but i had read of an incognito offer which gives 30k instead. As explained here:
https://www.reddit.com/churning/comments/8cmph5/daily_question_thread_april_16_2018/dxguri4/ I tries several times using incognito mode on chrome, but nothing worked. I then switched to using Chrome's user tab ( top right ) and clicked on 'guest'. After 2 tries I was able to get it.
So once I got the offer, I went for the application.
Nothing out of the ordinary. I used my ITIN. It asks for ITIN os SSN, otherwise you are redirected to the GT page, which oddly wasnt working properly when i tried.
Going back to the form, everything else was standard. For my income I put the equivalent of mine here in Canada. For address I used my brother's address, which is the same one my TDbank.com is registered with. Very important for this to match, as there are multiple DPs of the GT putting you on hold while they call the bank to make sure the address matches.
Now, after the application was completed, I was redirected to a section which asked me to provide copies of my taxes ( US ), i guess the equivalent of our NoA. Of course I don't have that. So on that page there is a button to upload documents, or something along the line of 'upload later'. I clicked on the latter and THERE i got the application reference #.
This was at night. I called right away but then learnt that the actual GT department works from like 6:30am to 4:30pm Mountain Time Zone. Im in MTL, so basically from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
I called then the next day, right away they ask which card you want to sign up. I told them I already applied for one and had a reference #. Once they took this number, they verified my info, birth year and last 4 digits of my SSN / ITIN.
Then they asked for my canadian Amex card number, so that they can check if the GT is even possible. First try I gave them my Amex Plat, which has been opened for over 9 months, but i have not used much recently. I learnt that this is not good, as they need a card that apart from being opened for at least 3 months ( or 6 ?), has to show continuous activity. Mine didn't, which was annoying because i didnt have another one with me, so i had to hang up and wait once again.
I finally got hold of my SO and she sent me the SPG card number. I called again the GT dept, gave them my reference number and then my SPG card's number.
Was told to wait a couple of minutes while they verified if my card was good for the transfer.
2 minutes passed by, and the agent came back and said it was all good and he told me my application was approved and I should be getting the card within 2 business days. That was it! I think that went very smoothly, i've read multiple DPs of people getting questions about their address/ bank but i didnt get any of those, even though i would have been able to answer them.
In any case, It all worked out at the end. I should have my personal SPG tomorrow and I will start to plan to get it for my wife as well.
A couple DPs I read BUT can't confirm:
- You can sign up via GT more than once.
- You can apply for an amex online using a dummy SSN, and then when you call GT you can provide your passport ( or another piece of ID ), this is in case you dont have an ITIN but still want to apply this way.
TLDR; Took over 6 months to apply for my first US card. Applied online for a special offer, then I called GT with the reference # and was approved on the spot without being asked any questions, other than having a valid Amex card in Canada.

2016.10.11 15:25 batsy71 0 AF clone of Costco Anywhere Visa : InFirst CU Visa Rewards (4% cb on Gas, 3% on travel+dining)
I like to dig out and uncover lesser known credit unions/banks whose credit cards offer similabetter category spend rewards than some popular brands. My previous post was on
PCM Credit Union InFirst FCU (peviously NARFE CU) has introduced a
Visa Rewards card that has exactly the same rewards structure as the Costco Anywhere Visa:
4% on gas 3% on travel + dining 2% on groceries, wholesale clubs etc 1% on rest 1500 (15$) bonus on 1st purchase
Anybody can be member of the credit union and apply for the credit card if they purchase a
one-time 1 year membership of National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Association for 40$ (only to join the CU) which is relatively cheaper than the
55$ AF of the Costco anywhere visa,
45$ AF of Sam's Club Mastercard,
89$ AF of the TD Bank Travel rewards all of which give 3% on Travel + Dining.
Reward points can be redeemed at
CU Rewards website for minimum of 5000 points (50$) statement credit. Points expire after 5 years.
2 months later:
Magnify Money claims Infirst FCU can be joined now by becoming member of FAPAC for 10$ using discount code INFIRST
TLDR: InFirst CU Visa rewards undercuts Costco Anywhere by offering same rewards but with 0 AF + one-time
40$ 10$ (-15$ intro bonus) Joining fee.

2013.12.27 01:57 JakeGiovanni Trouble with using a pre-paid visa card on Steam
A relative of mine sent me a prepaid visa from TDbank with $30 on it. I figured I'd use it to purchase DayZ, I've wanted it since it went standalone. It was already activated, I even went to the site and logged in with it just to make sure. So I put in the card number, expiration date, security code, address of the bank it was bought at (lines 1 and 20, and phone number of the bank, as well as the correct state. But for some reason, it keeps getting declined.
Has anyone ever used a TDbank visa before? How'd you do it?
