context: finished my first year of college while playing club baseball at my school, and wanted to share some pros and cons of club baseball, so if any of you are interested in playing at your school, you’ll go in with some prior knowledge.
tbh, i didn’t even know club baseball was a thing until i got to school, and the tryouts were pretty big. i played on my schools team and it was a lot of fun, but there were some downsides to it (but that’s everything in life).

Pros:
- team is entirely student run (coaches may or may not be students, depends on your school). the university doesn’t oversee team activities, except for enforcing rules of course (no hazing, no underage drinking, no drugs, etc.) the university can provide some funding though but they often won’t (unless the team is extremely good). this means that there won’t be any “daddy ball” or anything like that on the team and to me you feel closer to team management. the students that run the team(s) understand that everyone playing is also a student and will be extremely lenient with missing practices and stuff because of class, and they understand the frustrations that some players may have sometimes (playing time, position, lineup order, etc.)
- it’s competitive, but still for fun at the same time. while you are competing for a national championship (if your school lets you play in the playoffs), everyone is still under the same impression: more than likely, nobody will play after they graduate. there are exceptions (ECU had a player get signed from their club team), but they are extremely rare.
- you get to travel! we got to go to around the west coast multiple times last season, a lot of places i’ve never been to before.
- you meet new people. some of my best friends came from the team and it’s amazing we get to play baseball together and hangout outside of baseball as well.
- you can get some pretty cool stuff. our jerseys this past year were super cool and we got a lot of free gear along with those. at some schools the uniforms are almost exact replicas of the NCAA team’s unis (though some schools don’t do this).
- dues. i wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing but it can be a hefty price tag. you have to pay for travel, uniforms, and other things, like i said, the school often times will not provide much funding, if any at all. i’ve heard dues as low as $350 all the way to over $1,000. this is an issue for some students, but most club presidents will be super upfront and honest about dues.
- baseball politics STILL happen. like i said, its student run, but students will still sometimes places favorites. we played a team where the president was roommates with a couple of his teammates, and despite them hitting under .200, they played every game. it didn’t happen at my school, but it depends.
- time away from class. while the travelling and playing is fun, it takes time away from class. the regular season takes place in the spring semester, and i found myself extremely busy trying to balance school and baseball. that being said, if you’re a good student, you might not struggle like i did, but it is worth noting because professors will not take very kindly to you missing an assignment because of club baseball.

I'm sure it was the right choice in the long run but this hurts, probably one of the worst feelings I've ever experienced.

I have been together with my girlfriend for about 6 years. Only in the last few months things have been kind of rough. She has been feeling down a lot and is having trouble sleeping, feeling tired all the time, doesn’t want to be alone,…
Last month things became too much for me and have resulted in severe anxiety and panic attacks. Luckily I am doing a lot better right now. Some things that help me from getting this anxiety are getting enough sleep, going to the gym and talking to my therapist.
Most nights my girlfriend doesn’t want to go to sleep. She feels uncomfortable and can’t really get of her phone. The thing that helps for her is that I touch her back or stroke her hair while she is trying to fall asleep. I don’t mind doing it some times, but this does result in me getting less sleep and feeling too tired to go to the gym.
Tonight I told her I wanted to go to sleep after which she told me “no, I feel uncomfortable, will you please touch me”. She does say this sometimes but it always throws me off. I feel bad for saying no and when I say no met sternly she gets angry at me for not taking her feelings into account.
I really don’t know what to think of this. I just want her to say “I know you got to take care of yourself so I’ll take care of myself”. What do you guys think of this?

So I’ve been eyeing up the Svartpilen, and I went to take a look at one today. It seems a little smaller than I imagined it’d feel. I’ve been riding on the street for about 10 years, and basically all of my life before that in the dirt. I’ve spent a lot of time on a DRZ SM and an FZ09.
My last bike was a Yamaha bolt I sold after only 2 years last fall, it just wasn’t what I wanted out of a bike. It bored me.
The svartpilen on paper looks like exactly what I want, but I’m afraid the “beginner bike” stigma it kind of gets might haunt me.
Does it have enough power on the seat dyno for a relatively experienced rider to enjoy? Or am I gonna be wishing I went with something else? Not interested in going triple digit speeds, I just want to make sure it’s going to be fun, romping around town and to work and stuff.
It’s my bike if I want it, and I can go pick it up tomorrow. I decided I’d sleep on it tonight.

I live on the corner, and I heard the impact. When I run out across my lawn, a silver van is already smoking as a pregnant woman and two young children quickly get onto the grass and away from the vehicle. The man that ran the red had to make like a gopher to get out the side of his now flipped car, as his windshield was crunched but not budging.
While I went inside to get water for the family and our first aid kit, the car went up on flames, and stretched over to the large amount of plants and trees on the corner.
Thankfully the response time was rapid to the scene. In less than 10 mins, both fire and police had the situation under control.
That kid was a trouper, for as scary as the situation was, she made some people laugh. And want to thank my other neighbor for coming out to also give the kids and pregnant woman sparkling water, although the kids made me laugh with the faces they made.
All that to say, I want to call out the rubber necker walking around in a sprain boot. While you were out there with your "Let's Go Brandon" and "Go Woke Go Broke" pins, trying to get people's comments on video for your tiny minded whatever that "started when Fox dropped Tucker", while you were way more concerned with making some kind of name for yourself by capitalizing on someone's pain, there were actual caring individuals doing the real work of making sure everyone was safe and had what they needed. I sincerely hope this literal ambulance chaser can get the mental health services he so sorely needs.
Hope the family gets home safe tonight. Knowing the kid was able to sing and smile before they left because the people around them helped them feel safe, that's what matters to me.
Those two seconds you think you have don't exist, and if you run that red you may not exist anymore either. Both cars are totaled, and if the fire department had not responded so fast the transformer definitely would have caught fire.

2023.06.01 00:22 ShimmeringShadows245 Past couple days bf has been with family more and we havent talked as much…
So yeah… today has been great… Yesterday he was with his brother fishing for several hours and we couldnt talk much cause the connection was bad and his phone died… today he is at his grandmother’s and is basically pushing me to the backburner. When I got off work we called for 20 mins and was about to play a game with him but my mom called and I left to do something with her for a few hours thinking we’d just resume what we were doing before I left and he’d spend time with his family while I was gone. But when I got back he refused to yo talk to me on the phone and he wont be back home until idk later tonight (EST). What can I do? 2023.06.01 00:20 whoopsydaisymybad AITA: annoyed by friend’s calls.
So, I have this friend who calls me every. single. day on her commute home; I live much closer to work so I’m usually already home by then. The thing is, it’s the same conversations every night and she does the majority of the talking; sometimes the conversations are about work, which is fine since we’re in the same field, but other times it’s about her kid and I’m starting to find them tedious. Plus, because we talk every night, we run out of things to talk about and I’m just over it.
So tonight, I turned my phone to Do Not Disturb and went about my evening. I checked my phone around the time she usually calls and she called me four times within 12 minutes. Now, the ringer didn’t go off or anything but I find that so excessive and now I’m annoyed.
The thing is, I’m not always available and I think it’s reasonable to try someone once or twice but get. the. fucking. hint.
1) AITA for feeling annoyed? 2) how do I tactfully say “I don’t think we need to talk every night. Try me once or twice then leave me alone.”?

Had a breakdown. Told my spouse I needed more intimacy and was concerned about her lack of desire/sex. Mentioned how she told me in the past she no longer wanted or desired sex.
