2023.03.22 17:18 chicalocca 29F asking for a career advice

In which area would I be most successful in terms of making a living and building a career? Currently I am managing a small design team in a startup company but am not feeling fulfilled, quite the opposite. I am considering going back to studies or learning a new skill so that I can move in another direction. Perhaps someone can also tell when is a good time for a career change in my case, or if I should not do it at all?
Thank you already!

2023.03.22 17:18 forbiddenmemeories Martin Crane swaps homes with Father Jack Hackett. Can he put up with life on Craggy island longer than Frasier can put up with living with Jack?

By an odd coincidence, it turns out that Martin and Jack are old buddies from Korea, with Jack having left Ireland and enlisted in a drunken stupor. Frasier sees the chance to pack Martin off on vacation for a while and thinks an Irish priest will make for scholarly company. Meanwhile, Ted is delighted to send Jack away, especially when he hears his visiting replacement is an American with two rich sons. Martin comes to live for a while on Craggy Island in the parochial house with Ted, Dougal and Mrs Doyle, whilst Jack moves in to Frasier's apartment with Frasier, Daphne and Eddie. Who can put up with their situation for longer: Martin on Craggy Island, or Frasier sharing his home with Jack?

2023.03.22 17:17 gabesmith63 Hosting Capacity/Interconnection in Less Solar-adapted Regions

New to the solar world and recently introduced to publicly accessible maps displaying hosting capacity analysis data via ArcGIS. However, my home town does not have that information published and I am not sure how they even go about collecting it.
In the US, do most utility companies collect this data? Can they hold it from the public?
Does anyone with personal experience or insight into the utility world know a good approach to reaching out and finding this information? My goal is to get a map for this one particular city in general to avoid having to reach out to the utility company for every individual location I may be interested in moving to.
Would love to hear everyone’s various approaches, main points of contact, questions to ask, utility company perspective on the matter, etc.

2023.03.22 17:16 L_ishere670 Too Many DNS Option, What To Choose?

I was searching for a good DNS and i found many options available like: 1. Quad9 2. NextDNS 3. Control D From the founders of Windscribe This is the Vpn iam using btw 4. WeDNS from WeVpn company
So what to choose from all of them?
My threat model in this part is that i want: * DNS with no filters or basic anti malware/anti tracking as i really don't know if this dns will block something they don't like. *DNS with IPv6 if available. *And the most important is DNS with no profiling or logs at any cost.
Thanks and iam waiting for your help.

2023.03.22 17:16 ZalheraLucavi New Player Adventures!

So after looking at this game and it sitting on my Steam wishlist for a long time, I finally decided to take the plunge this past weekend when it went on sale. I had been weighing it in my head for a while, as the skill systems appealed to me, but I admit I let some of the negative reviews and complaints about the visuals sway me until now. (That said, being a kid who grew up in the 80s and cut my teeth on NES games, turns out the visuals don’t bother me at all and I think the game looks fine.)
I boot up, make an account, and create the least hideous human I’m able to. The second I hit enter, banshees invade the actual character creation screen and abscond with my character. Hah, okay, that’s fun.
Highlights of my adventures so far:
-Botched the coordinates to get off New Player Nowhere Island (Thank you very much, Numeric Dyslexia), ended out in Frozen Mountain Land where I died to freezing and then a yeti thing. I got Death experience; is… is dying something I want to be good at? Apparently yes.
-Jumped into portal blindly to escape Ice Mountain, find myself in Eltibule keep, wonder if this is where I’m supposed to be after Newbie Island; presence of Cosmic Horror Worm Thing confirms otherwise. Yikes.
-Eventually explore and avoid tons of wildlife that’s above my pay grade and find Serbule. Hooray, level-appropriate quests and mobs!
-Went to crypt to gather fuckton of spider legs for some reason; while there got adopted by Roving Band of Demigods doing the Civic Cleanup event. Nice member of Superhero team gives me stuff I can use to bribe an NPC into teaching me Mentalism. Jedi Knight build underway, thanks generous stranger! Also got turned into a deer during a boss fight. I got better.
-Currently outfitted in spiderweb armor and pants and a Brain Bug Hat. I look like a closet monster from a Japanese horror film. I hope to fix this soon.
I had a fun weekend, Gorgon. I appreciate that I was even able to botch the teleportation off the island, that was way more fun and memorable than most MMOs’ on-rails intro questing is these days. Also, getting turned into a deer and having a deer skillset? And other animals, from my understanding? Hilarious and inventive. I look forward to more surprises in this game.

2023.03.22 17:13 JohnWick464 Help with Elder financial abuse

I'm fairly certain my father has become a victim of elderly financial abuse.
I will try to cut the story as short as possible, but it will be a bit long. In 2021 my father had a stroke, he lived in my home prior to the stroke, due to vaccination mandates, I was unable to visit him in hospital, unable to take him to hospitals for his surgeries, as he got diagnosed with lung cancer during the same period, it was found while he was in hospital for the stroke, he spent 2 months in hospital and a female friend visited him often in the hospital during these 2 months, this female friend turned my father against most of his children. After he got out of the hospital, he stayed with me for 3 weeks and I took care of him, his sisters (my aunts) got involved with taking him to appointments and the hospital for his surgeries as again, I couldn't due to vaccine mandates.
They did not return him home, he stayed with my aunt for around 6 weeks for both operations, then they didn't tell me anything and just put him in an old aged home, due to mandates, I couldn't do anything, this was early 2022. During this period, this female friend had got access to his bank book and his keycard and the pin number to it, I couldn't find out any information, I tried talking to the age care home numerous times and said I wanted to discharge him and bring him home and take care of him, they refuse to tell me any information, stating that I was not the authorized person, they could not tell me any financial information, nothing, my brother has been in contact a lot with this female friend, I suspect he is an accomplice to the financial abuse taken place on my father. The aged care facility were also trying to talk me into stepping down with pulling him out by trying to offer cheaper packages and things also.
During the period of me trying to get him out of this aged care facility, his female friend kept accusing my aunt of elder financial abuse on my dad, saying she was stealing his money and the age care costs were not getting paid and that they were apparently trying to take her to court over it, during this time my aunt was definitely the authorized person on the list at the age care facility, they contacted her and advised her about what I was talking to them about and that I was wanting to get my dad out of the aged care facility, my aunt did not say anything, never made contact with me, in fact they went out of their way to disconnect my father's phone so I couldn't speak to him anymore. (Initially this made me believe that my aunt was up to no good, despite knowing that my father's friend is no good, my initial thoughts were both my aunt and this female friend were committing the financial abuse on my dad, but turns out I was wrong, more to this later on).
I noticed a lot of my father's mail was not coming here at my address anymore, it use to, I managed to get a financial statement and some of the transactions were quite questionable and looked like signs of elderly financial abuse, for example he is living in an aged care home, why would he need to spend 150$ at a supermarket? He had a stroke and cannot drive anymore, why on earth would he need to spend like 100$ a time at a gas station? Not to mention some of these gas station transactions are close to where that lady lives.
I heard my mailbox go off a few times, so someone was stealing mail out of my mailbox and driving off as I would look out the window to see who it was, clearly taking any evidence from my mailbox, such as financial statements, as I said, I managed to get one. I suspect this was happening usually when I wasn't at home.
The people I suspect of the abuse advised me of the fees that apparently my father has to pay to the aged care facility, which are extremely high, way higher than his pension can even cover, I did some investigation of my own and my father is quite mobile, doesn't need much care at all, just needs meals provided and someone to make sure he takes his meds and that's all, he doesn't have assets and things, he is quite poor, and I spoke with my sister who works in aged care and she even said, his pension should be covering his fees and meds, which I worked out shouldn't be anymore than about 2,000$ a month, the people I suspect said he is paying anywhere from 3,000-4,000$ per month, those fees are for the Deluxe packages etc.
My brother was bragging to me about a will being put in place, I know there is no will and it's a lie. Recently my brother just showed up coercing my father to take belongings away, telling my father lies, saying that I was moving soon and taking his things with me, my father's belongings have been in my possession for more than 1.5 years and I have not taken or sold any of his property without full permission from my father. And any funds I have got from this have not gone in my pocket directly what so ever.
I have advised if the property isn't brought back, I will be contacting my lawyer, they have agreed to bring the property back, as I need to sell these items to pay for my father's funeral expenses, which I have had a conversation with my father about this. I also told them if they do this again, I will be calling the police for trespassing and stealing. The fact my brother acted impatiently and started taking things means, there is no will in place, I asked my father have you done a will?, he said no, your brother tried to get me to do it but I refused.
At this stage, I do not know who the power of attorney is, I suspect it's his female friend, my dad has told me that she has his bank book and keycard and she is handling his finances, now I have found someone who has been a previous victim of this said female friend, this person advised me that the female friend was ripping them off for money, maxing out their credit cards etc. I was also advised by them that the said female friend of my father's has a history of fraud and has been taken to court for defrauding Centrelink for a lot of money in the past, a huge amount of money to be exact.
My sister found out by talking to one of the aunt's involved previously, that the money was being taken out of my dad's account before the aged care place could take the fees out to pay for my dad's expenses there. Bit strange to me, if they are not getting paid, why haven't they reported this as suspicious?
My brother has told me that apparently my father owes the aged care home a crap load of money, many many thousands. How can he know this, I can't even find out this information, the aged home refuse to tell me anything about financials, telling me I was not an authorized person, despite being his son.
Anyway, the female friend has turned my father against his sisters now, as well as his children, except my brother. This is my theory, the female friend used my aunts as a scapegoat, convinced them to put him in an aged care home, to isolate him from me and my siblings to set the stage for financial abuse. I think then by getting my aunts out of the way, the female friend of my dad's has then taken control completely. She has turned my father completely against his sisters and children, except the brother as stated.
I found out, he is being given some pocket money to buy smokes, that's pretty much it.
For quite a while this female friend was trying to make out like she wanted him out of the aged care home, but hasn't put up any further fight for that since she got my aunts out of the way.
Does anyone know a good starting point for me? I am seriously looking at taking this person to court because if I don't, my father will suffer, he won't get a proper funeral when he passes away, he will be in severe debt etc, it's not fair on him and I want to correct all of this and fix this for him.

2023.03.22 17:12 Theclaaw Countdown to Kickoff 2023: Portland Thorns FC

Countdown to Kickoff 2023: Portland Thorns FC

🌹🌹🌹 LET'S GET THORNY!! 🌹🌹🌹
You can check out the the original post with links to all other write ups for this year here.
BACKGROUND
Head Coach: Mike Norris
Formerly an assistant coach for the Thorns, Mike Norris took over the team in January of this year following the resignation of last year’s head coach, Rhian Wilkinson who stepped down after only one season. Her resignation came after a joint investigation by the NWSL & NWSLPA regarding a relationship developing with a current player on the team. While the investigation found Wilkinson did not violate league policies, Wilkinson left the team after player urging, regarding the broken trust between the players and Wilkinson, the legitimacy of the reporting/investigation process of the team/league, and potential retaliation amongst other issues.
Norris joined PTFC in 2022 as an assistant head coach under Wilkinson. Most recently, Norris was the goalkeepers coach for the current Olympic champions, the Canadian Women’s National Team, but Norris’s assistant coaching background in women’s soccer is extensive. After starting his coaching career in youth soccer, he quickly moved up through Canadian youth’s national system up to the senior team over the span of 8 years. Most importantly, Norris was hired with the backing of the current players. Expectations are high for Norris. The Thorns are coming off their third championship season with sights set on a repeat performance.
Technical Director: Karina LeBlanc - General Manager
Karina LeBlanc took over the role of General Manager in November of 2021 following a 3 year stint as CONCACAF’s Head of Women’s Soccer. The newly dedicated role in the Thorns' organization came after a separation between the Thorns management from their brother club Portland Timbers FC stemming from the fall out of the 2021 abuse scandal of the league. LeBlanc, a Canadian national team Hall of Famer, was immediately thrown into the mix, managing to make a splash with her first two trades within her first month, securing a substantial amount of allocation money and expansion draft protection. Unfortunately, LeBlanc stumbled a bit in her first NWSL draft, using her first pick on a player that was never signed by the club (due to transphobic/anti-LGBTQ+ social media posts). In just over a year, LeBlanc appears to be a breath of fresh air in the recent tumultuous years of the club. Just like head coach Mike Norris, there are high expectations for LeBlanc (honestly though, not protecting a known abuser would instantly shoot LeBlanc up to the best GM in Thorns history).
Captain: Chrstine Sinclair
Synonymous with Portland women’s soccer and needing no introduction, the Canadian GOAT Christine Sinclair has been the Thorn’s captain since the start of the league in 2013. While several players have worn the armband in Sinc’s absence, the captaincy is Sinc’s and truly Sinc’s alone.
Stadium: Providence Park, Soccer City, USA
Arguably one of the most iconic professional soccer stadiums in the US, Providence Park has played host to the Thorns since they joined the league in 2013. Located in the Goose Hollow neighborhood in Southwest Portland, the recently renovated stadium is home to both PTFC teams and can host over 25,000 fans.
Ownership: To Be Determined
I am not going to waste time talking about the Thorns' current owner; in no way does he deserve any more publicity and in mine, and I’m sure many others’ opinion, should not be allowed to own a club in the league. Thankfully, in December of 2022, it was announced the Thorns would be up for sale. While this could potentially hinder both the Thorns & Timbers’ mantra of “Two Teams, One Club”, the future is bright for the Thorns. Right after the announcement of the sale, it was reported that an all-women investment group led by Nike executive Melanie Strong was looking to submit a bid with a valuation of $60 million.
Mascot: N/A
While there is no mascot for the club, the prominence of roses can be seen throughout the club, including on merch, within the supporters section, and even awarded to players after home matches.
Kits: We’ve Got Some Mixed Opinions
The Thorns have had some really great kits in past years. However, the kits unveiled in 2022 really missed the mark. One comment pointed out that the 2022 kits looked as if someone took the 2021 kits and remade them in MS Paint. Switching to black kits the previous year, Portland’s primary kits kept with the theme of a black base with the inclusion of red vines/thorns. A nice little easter egg, the acronym dear to the PTFC supporters, BAON, is included within the neck tag (a feature added to the kits starting in 2020).
The secondary kits didn’t fare much better. The club kept with the primary colors of white and red, but other than that, not much else can be said about them.
2023 brings about a fun new kit for our Ed Hardy fans out there (at least we can say they didn’t play it safe???). The Thorns wanted to go bold and that they did. With an updated logo on the shorts, they definitely stand out.
Supporters Groups: The Rose City Riveters
Housed in the North End of Providence Park, the Rose City Riveters are a wild bunch of supporters. You can check out their Instagram or Twitter. The group provides plenty of volunteer opportunities, charity drives, and are never shy in supporting what they believe in. The Riveters are loud and proud (NSFW - language), creating one of the best sporting environments in the league. Very biased, but they also create some of the best TIFOs and banners; since I love a good TIFO/banner, here are few of my recent favorites:
Subreddit: /Thorns
The Thorns subreddit is probably above average in activity compared to other clubs. You’ll get the biggest news, fun social media posts, and the occasional hyped upvote party (we like excitement). Drop by to show your support!
News and Commentary: Stumptown Footy & Riveting!
Stumptown Footy & Riveting! are the two publications that you will constantly find Thorns-centric coverage & commentary. While STF is currently going through the SB Nation cuts of all soccer coverage, they still plan on continuing coverage of soccer in Portland. Both are great for not just coverage, but opinions on the Thorns & the league.

2022 Season Review
Three Stars!!! ⭐⭐⭐
The Portland Thorns were your 2022 NWSL League Champions! As any other season in Portland, the Thorns came in with high expectations following their Shield win in 2021, but their upset loss in the semi-finals to Chicago. Portland went into the pre-season Challenge cup in the West Division finishing 3-1-2, but missed out on advancing to the knockout stage to defend their Challenge Cup championship. The Thorns started off the regular season a little sluggish, going 1-3-1 in their first five games, falling all the way to 7th in the standings. Thankfully, they quickly hit their stride, going on a 10 game unbeaten streak. Following back to back thrashings from NCC & SD, the Thorns went on to not drop a match for the rest of the season. They ended the season with a record of 10-9-3 and a goal differential of +25! The race for the shield at the end of the season was wild, with Portland being in control of their own destiny, but couldn’t get it done, ultimately falling short by 1 point to OL Reign.
Focusing on the on-field storylines, there is one name that was the star of the show: Sophia Smith. Coming into her 3rd season in the league, Smith took off (for club and country)! Racking up 14 goals with 3 assists which lead to 3 Player of the Week nominations (1 win), a Player of the Month award, 2nd in the race for the Golden Boot, NWSL Championship Game MVP, and ultimately being crowned the 2022 NWSL MVP. Nothing could stop Sophia Smith last season and hopefully this is just the beginning for her.
Smith was not the only Thorns player to really step it up this year. Continuing on with the nickname of Goalkeeper FC (shout out the magical Thorns GKer coach Nadine Angerer), starting goalkeeper Bella Bixby tied for the most clean sheets in the league with 9 (10 if you include the playoffs). Rookie Sam Coffey made an immediate impact in the midfield, switching to a DM position and being an anchor our midfield needed. The Thorns also had 1 iron woman in 2022, defender Kelli Hubly who really solidified her starting role going forward (over an injured Emily Menges). Last, but not least, one of the biggest stories of the season: the return of Crystal Dunn! After giving birth to her very adorable son Marcel in May, Dunn returned to the pitch less than 4 months later. And who could forget Dunn’s game winner to send Portland to the championship?

Goalkeepers (3): Bella Bixby, Shelby Hogan, Lauren Kozal (DRAFT)

Forwards (7): Janine Beckie, Natalie Beckman, Hannah Betfort, Izzy D’Aquila (DRAFT), Sophia Smith, Michele Vasconcelos, Morgan Weaver
Predicted Preferred Gameday XI
Formation: A bit unknown what the formation will be this year with a new head coach, but the Thorns primarily ran a 4-3-3 last year. It’s going to be an interesting discussion to see how Norris handles where Sinclair goes. While I respect the Canadian GOAT, I believe Sinc would be best used as a super sub. Depending how Norris handles where Sinclair goes, there is going to be some variation within our midfield & forwards group. Predicting Sinc remaining in our starting line up, I would expect to see some form of our starting XI looking something like:
-------------------Bixby-------------------
-Kuikka----Hubly----Sauerbrunn----Klingenberg-
----Rodriguez----Coffey----Dunn----
----Smith----Sinclair----Weaver----
Likely Top Bench/Subs:
  • Emily Menges, D
  • Hina Sugita, MF
  • Janine Beckie, F (sike :( )
  • Izzy D’Aquila, F
  • Olivia Moultrie, M (again, Moultrie’s use is really going to depend on what Norris plans on. Moultrie was ramping up in minutes on the back half of the season last year. As of today, Moultrie is in the Starting XI for the Thorns first preseason match)
Returning Players (Almost Everyone):
GK: Bella Bixby, Shelby Hogan
D: Kelli Hubly, Meghan Klingenberg, Natalia Kuikka, Tegan McGrady, Emily Menges, Meaghan Nally, Gabby Provenzano, Becky Sauerbrunn
M: Sam Coffey, Crystal Dunn, Olivia Moultrie, Taylor Porter, Rocky Rodríguez, Christine Sinclair, Hina Sugita
F: Janine Beckie, Natalie Beckman, Hannah Betfort, Sophia Smith, Michele Vasconcelos, Morgan Weaver
The Vets
Almost every Thorns player is a veteran with the team at this point. The vets below are those who have been around the block a time or two in this league:
D: Klingenberg, Menges, Sauerbrunn
M: Dunn, Rodríguez, Sinclair
Something to Prove
  • Kelli Hubly (D) - Being the Thorns only iron woman is a feat in itself, but until the 2021 season, Hubly hadn’t been a consistent starter. With an aging backline, it will be seen if Hubly can continue on the upward trajectory in being that anchor of our backline
  • Sam Coffey (M) - Year 1 for Coffey went about as good as one could wish for. Like Hubly, Coffey’s “prove it” is if she can continue to be as good as she was last year, proving that year 1 wasn’t just a fluke (I don’t think anyone thinks this is the case though). If she isn’t called in for the World Cup (a long shot at making it at the moment), Coffey is going to be a key piece for the Thorns.
  • Olivia Moultrie (M) - The Child. (Can we even call her that anymore?). Moultrie & co. fought hard to allow her to play for the Thorns which led to massive changes in how the league handles U18 players. That said, Moultrie hasn’t really consistently shown that she’s as good as they said she was. A lot of it is due to playing time, it came sporadically and at times, playing only the last few minutes of the match. However, Moultrie has shown flashes of brilliance when she was in. She’s not afraid to be physical and she has the confidence to take her shot.
  • Christine Sinclaire (M) - Does Sinc really have to prove anything at this point in her career? No. However, we are unfortunately heading towards the end of Sinc’s career here. The big question is, how will she handle it? This will be Portland’s 3rd coach in 3 years and while the Thorns are far from rebuilding, it is yet to be seen where Sinc will fall in Norris’s game planning. However it shakes out to be, I have a feeling we will see Sinc be what Sinc always is, the GOAT.
Out for the season
So far, Portland is looking good as far as the SEI list (knock on wood). Jinxed myself on this one. Unfortunately, Janine Beckie went down in the preseason friendly against the U23 NT with an ACL tear. The biggest missing piece will once again be Lindsey Horan. Leaving at the start of last season, Horan left big shoes to fill. She will continue to be out until at least June (the end of her loan), but we most likely won’t see her return until after the World Cup. Fortunately for the Thorns, they do not lack depth in their midfield.
2023 PREVIEW
Realistic Best Case Scenario: 1st Place
The Thorns are returning almost the entirety of their championship team. And while they do have a new coach, Norris was there during the Thorns’ championship run. Expectations for the club will be higher than ever with the possibility of the Thorns going back to back a very realistic goal.
Realistic Worst Case Scenario: 5-7th place
The league is only getting better. While the Thorns did not lose any key players, many clubs right below them gained quite a few. Five different clubs were all within 4 points of each other at the end of the season. The 3 teams right below Portland were San Diego, Houston, and Kansas City. I won’t repeat what’s already been said in these write ups about those 3 teams, but the Thorns could’ve easily been 5th last year as they could’ve been 1st. Looking further back, you have a team like ACFC who should be returning many injured starters and could easily project themselves forward in the standings. The World Cup is going to be especially hard on the Thorns who will look to have ~7 players out which includes 5 potential starters. I don’t expect to see Portland drop out of the playoff picture, but the middle to back half of the season could get very interesting.
Realistic Most Probable Scenario: 2nd-4th
While the Thorns didn’t make any flashy trades or free agent signings, they stuck with what they know worked. Sophia Smith really hit her stride last year and is going to be looked upon to continue her dominance this year. The return of Lindsey Horan (if healthy) in the back half should really give us a push late into the season. Portland returns a team of veterans that know what it takes to win. Can they repeat the success of their 2022 season? We’re going to have to find out.

2023.03.22 17:11 Arceus919 Baron Augustus Reinhold

Baron Augustus Reinhold
Curious Village is a game near and dear to my heart. It was the second (oops) Professor Layton game that I played, because I saw Diabolical Box advertised in a Nintendo Power magazine and thought it looked fun, so I played it. After completing it, I rushed to GameStop to buy Curious Village as well because I had been captivated by the game’s world and puzzles that I loved.
Playing the game 10+ years later, I start to notice some things that seem, well, off. I suppose this is to be expected as it’s the world of video games, but I just couldn’t shake the idea that Augustus Reinhold was really not a great father.
The Character
Professor Layton and the Curious Village opens up with Layton telling us that the Baron has passed away and they were going to settle an inheritance dispute - his entire estate would go to whomever found the “golden apple” of St. Mystere. Layton had gotten a call from Lady Dahlia (I try my best not to think too hard about how this happened) to help in the search.
Every move we make, the characters tell us how wonderful a father Augustus was and how much he cared for his family. "You'd never seen a man so in love as Master Reinhold was," Ingrid would say. From all the expectations from Matthew, Ingrid, and the rest of the cast, I was expecting much more than what I got out of his tale. Being a father is the only role he has, that's basically the sole purpose of the game.
Look mom I’m """Helping""" (Before He Died)
Flora’s mother Violet died when she was young. Instead of helping her through grief and being there for her when she needed a parent the most, he went the opposite direction and built Lady Dahlia in Violet’s likeness instead. Flora was frightened by the new robo-mom, but Augustus didn’t seem to care - not a good look for someone who loves his daughter so much. Even after saying he would love Flora as much as he loved Violet after her passing, he still managed to show that he cared about his dead wife more than his living daughter by keeping the wife-bot around. Flora would play alone in the manor’s garden around her mother’s grave. Instead of helping cheer her up, spending quality parental time with her, or even thinking about what she might want, he builds a whole ass amusement park all the way on the other side of town for her. It came to no surprise that Flora didn’t care for this either, so he lets the park go into ruin and does nothing else to help her.
Look mom I have a """great idea""" (as he was dying)
So Augustus learns that he has a terminal illness and sets about securing a future for her daughter. Mr big money brains decides to build an entire town and fill it with robots (we all know how much Flora loved the first one) to keep her company and """protect""" her. He basically goes and isolates her from the outside world for !!!YEARS!!! I’m going to assume that Flora is around 13 during the events of the game and was no more than 5 when her mother died. Because it says Augustus dies only a few years later we can estimate that Flora knew and interacted with not a single real person for FIVE YEARS. She lived at the top of the tower with no one to interact with. I kinda feel like a lot of her childhood trauma stemmed from losing family and people close to her, so the best solution is obviously to isolate her, yeah? What a thing to do to your only child. What’s worse is what happens after that - the baron’s death is made public and the search for the Golden Apple begins. The will promised riches beyond belief to the winner, but was disguised to also be a contest to find the next family for Flora (I don’t even want to go into the original Japanese message at the end of the game, that’s a whole different rabbit hole). In my opinion, a contest that people went crazy over for untold riches would seem to draw the opposite kind of people that I would want to take care of an only child - “oh here’s a billion dollars, but also my daughter k thanks.”
Look mom I’m """dead"""
So Augustus decides to die, leaving Flora to grow up locked away in her tower, not ever knowing if his amazing riddle will ever be solved just like the useless father he was. Great guy.

2023.03.22 17:10 rezewer I asked the bing AI to write a post about why kingdom hearts should be on steam.

The post Bing made (which I think had some pretty good points):
Why Kingdom Hearts Should Be on Steam Kingdom Hearts is one of the most beloved and popular video game franchises of all time. The series combines the worlds and characters of Disney and Final Fantasy, creating a unique and magical experience for fans of both. Since its debut in 2002, Kingdom Hearts has spanned multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, and mobile devices. However, there is one platform that has been left out of the Kingdom Hearts saga: PC. Until recently, PC gamers had no official way to play any of the Kingdom Hearts titles on their computers. That changed in March 2021, when Square Enix announced that Kingdom Hearts was finally coming to PC as an Epic Games Store exclusive. While this was certainly a welcome news for many PC gamers who had been waiting for years to play Kingdom Hearts on their machines, it also raised some questions and concerns among others. Why did Square Enix choose Epic Games Store as the exclusive platform for Kingdom Hearts on PC? Why are the prices for the PC versions so high compared to other platforms? And most importantly, will Kingdom Hearts ever come to Steam? Steam is arguably the most popular and widely used digital distribution platform for PC games. It offers a variety of features and benefits for both developers and players, such as cloud saves, achievements, trading cards, user reviews, community forums, mod support, refunds policy, sales events, and more. Steam also has a huge user base of over 120 million active users per month as of January 2021. Many PC gamers prefer Steam over other platforms for these reasons and more. They also tend to dislike exclusivity deals that limit their choices and options when it comes to buying and playing games on PC. Epic Games Store has been notorious for securing exclusive rights for many games that would otherwise be available on Steam or other platforms. Therefore, it is understandable that many PC gamers would want Kingdom Hearts to be available on Steam as well as Epic Games Store. Not only would this give them more freedom and flexibility in choosing where to buy and play the games they love, but it would also allow them to enjoy all the features and benefits that Steam provides. So far, there has been no official confirmation or announcement from Square Enix or Epic Games regarding whether Kingdom Hearts will ever come to Steam or not. However, there are some reasons to be hopeful that it might happen eventually. First of all, many Epic Games Store exclusives have been timed exclusives rather than permanent ones. This means that they are only exclusive to Epic Games Store for a certain period of time (usually a year) before they become available on other platforms as well. Some recent examples of timed exclusives that have come or are coming to Steam include Borderlands 3 (September 2020), Metro Exodus (February 2020), Detroit: Become Human (December 2019), Control (August 2020), The Outer Worlds (October 2020), Hitman 3 (January 2022), Death Stranding (July 2020), Horizon Zero Dawn (August 2020), Red Dead Redemption 2 (December 2019), Shenmue III (November 2019), Total War Saga: Troy (August 2021), World War Z (April 2019), Heavy Rain (June 2019), Beyond: Two Souls (July 2019), Journey To The Savage Planet (January 2020) ,and Hades (December 2018). Secondly, Square Enix has a history of releasing their games on multiple platforms, including Steam. For instance, Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy VII Remake, NieR: Automata, Dragon Quest XI, and Tomb Raider are all available on Steam as well as other platforms. Square Enix also recently released NEO: The World Ends With You on Steam without any prior announcement or exclusivity deal with Epic Games Store. This shows that Square Enix is not opposed to bringing their games to Steam or surprising their fans with unexpected releases. Thirdly, Kingdom Hearts is a very popular and profitable franchise that has a loyal fan base across different platforms. It makes sense from a business perspective for Square Enix to expand their reach and potential revenue by making Kingdom Hearts available on Steam as well as Epic Games Store. Steam also offers better revenue share terms than Epic Games Store after certain sales thresholds are met ($10 million and $50 million). This means that Square Enix could earn more money from selling Kingdom Hearts on Steam if it sells well enough. Of course, these are just speculations and there is no guarantee that Kingdom Hearts will ever come to Steam.
I think it was pretty good, and now I feel sad for many people that might loose their jobs because of these AI technologies.

2023.03.22 17:10 todobaku1 Armin and Annie’s current ship

I posted this earlier, idk why it disappeared lol, anyways:
Okay so after my resent post I actually decided to do some research, because I honestly thought that I was the problem, and that I should just roll with the way things went. But anyways, these are my new takes regarding Armins ship with Annie:
I recently decided to watch the latest aot episode. (By recently I mean like when the episode first aired lol). And there was one specific scene that got me thinking: when did Annie and Armin become an item? Because I was honestly very confused. I came to the conclusion that I didn’t quite dislike the ship or anything, it was more a surprise since I never expected it to be this prominent in the anime. As i said, I did a little research since it honestly didn’t make much sense to me, and then I stumbled upon this person on tumbler who had done an analysis on Armins character post-timeskip and there was a specific part that stood out to me:
“A huge part of Armin's focus post-timeskip was put into a side-plot with a character with whom he spoke twice in 100+ chapters. Yes, that's right. Armin and Annie only spoke twice to each other, first in chapter 21 when Armin saw that Annie was using Marco's gear, and than in 31 when he tried to trick her into getting captured. Both times, their dialogue served the plot. Never have they talked during the training days, never have they even looked at each other even once, other than in those two scenes. Even after Annie was defeated, Armin immediately went to Eren, while others gathered around crystallized Annie.”
https://www.tumblr.com/survey-corps-potato/647987861034008576/armin (I hope I linked this correctly. I recommend that y’all read their analysis. It’s actually quite good, especially since they talk about Armins character development post-timeskip, and I pretty much agree with most of what was stated in that post).
Which was why I found the whole situation confusing. Cuz they barley interacted with each other in the manga, yet the Minute she leaves her crystal they confess their “love” or mutual interest. (I feel like I’m missing something that I want to add, oh well).
But then there was also this article: https://wegotthiscovered.com/anime/do-armin-and-annie-end-up-together-in-attack-on-titan/
That wrote: “In chapter 131 of the Attack on Titan manga, “Rumbling,” which was adapted in the first half of season four’s part three, Armin and Annie share a bonding moment. In it, Annie thanks her friend for keeping her company for years, and questions his motivations for doing so. Indirectly, Armin confesses his feelings by claiming he wanted to see her, and although Annie attempts to brush that off as him simply being a good person, it’s clear she is affected by the words. Later, even Mikasa puts together that Annie returns Armin’s feelings, but unfortunately, after the two part ways, their romantic storyline is left at that. This means that despite Armin and Annie’s feelings for one another being hinted at enough times, in the manga, there is never a confirmation of these characters’ romantic relationship
Some fans consider that in the epilogue of Attack on Titan, the story implies the two are together, but the evidence for that is not strong enough. Thus, without explicit confirmation, it’s impossible to consider this a canonical relationship. That said, the anime has expanded on the source material in the past, so there’s no way to tell if Armin and Annie will end up together in the adaptation.”
Which brings me to my next question: Did they ever become canon? Cuz I see that they shared their mutual interest with one another, but did they ever become an official item in the end? I’ve tried to find information both in the manga, Isayamas interviews and online but nowhere does it actually prove that they became an item/ married (or however people view couples). Which is why I’m wondering if it was a kind of “open ending” where the readers themselves decides whatever happened with them at the end (and everyone else for that matter). The only one who we got to see with a family (apart from Christa), was Mikasa. But it was never confirmed if she got married to a random man, or ended up with Jean that so many thinks. Or if the child we see her with is actually her biological child, or if it’s an adopted child. There was a lot that confused me with the last 15 or so chapters, but it was a great story nonetheless.
I hope none of what I wrote was confusing (or problematic lol). I’m looking forward to your replies. Have a continued great day! <333

2023.03.22 17:09 SwiftVeil I used to respect respawn.

This company fell down so hard, i like the last season but the fact there is so many unresolved issues going on in this game while the store bugs get fixed in a week really shows their priorities straight away.
And after that you see them tweet about another streamer or content creator to pretend they are in touch with the community, i'll give it to you straight away respawn, you are not in touch with the community and have absolutely no idea what the community wants.
We want polish, we want bugs to be fixed faster then you fixed the store this week, it's a shame that you can fix the store in a week but loba tactical had to stay bugged for a full month before receiving a half baked fix that didn't even fully fix the issue, the sound bug that has always been in the game, the bad servers that as far as i remember always been pathetic since season 0, the broken matchmaking in royal and its absence in mixtape, There is alot more in this game that need to be fixed, they have been here for years and so far all we get is false promises and skin recolors.
All you do is damage control then pull another shitty thing that you will need to do more damage control with. That's what happened with the evo pk recolor, and what did you do after people were upset about it? Apologize then did the exam same thing by making more recolors, in fast the majority of that event was recolors, You probably getting good profit now but there will be a time where people will just get enough and move on to another game, many did already.

2023.03.22 17:08 FireingUp1029 High Accumulated Vested Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) Selling / De-concentration Strategy Tips?

Hi - curious others in this community would approach the fact I have vested stock in my company (a public company) worth ~$1.6M and a lot of my NW (15%). I've accumulated a lot of it over 10 years of working there, and candidly I've been emotionally attached to selling in case of 'mistiming' the sale.
Always thinking "ah maybe it'll go a little higher soon, next earnings report", etc. or "wait to realize capital gains until _maybe_ we move out of New York City which has high NY state tax + local city tax". Our marginal tax brackets are Fed: 37%/20% LTCG, NY State: 6.85%, Local: 3.9%.
Until recently, waiting has paid off, but it's really too much concentration considering I'm still accumulating more each month/year from working at the company.
There's about 150 individual sub-lots of shares given the monthly vesting. Some of the long term gains date back from 2012-2015 and the losses are from 2021 and Jan/Feb 2022 when the stock was ~40% higher, rough year in 2022 like many companies.
SummaryTotal position $1.6M
Any thoughts for how / when / under what conditions to liquidate this in order to diversify?

2023.03.22 17:08 AprexBT Taking a small corporation to small claims court for unpaid invoice

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I did about 8 weeks of work for a cabinet company last September to October. I partially invoiced early October for approx. $11000 and after 3 weeks of non payment I stopped all services. They have since made two payments totaling approximately 15% of total value. The last payment made was in early January. They have been communicative for the most part... Will get back to me with in a week of emailing. I have been informed of the hardships that the company has gone through.
The company was owned by one person and then was invested into by a General Contracting firm to grow the business and theirs (General contractor is owned by two people). The original owner maintained operational oversight and the GC only checked in weekly on financials. In December, the original owner was forced out due to his mismanagement of the company. Countless debts between suppliers and subcontractors (including me). The GC has now taken full management of the cabinet company but I'm not aware of the shareholder status of the previous owner.
This leaves me now waiting to be paid when they can. My work was across multiple jobsites so placing liens was not an options for the amount owed. I have been extremely patient as I understand what they are up against to keep this company afloat... But that doesn't mean that their GC company hasn't been flourishing. I know that the partners that bought in could clear my debts if they took from their GC company and not the cabinet company. But I assume as they are both incorporate entities that they are insulated from one another.
This leaves me with two options.
I take them to small claims court. I would imagine it wouldn't be hard to get a judgement as they have already made payments to the invoice which confirms the amount owing. Plenty of emails to trace back and forth, at no time has there been a dispute of the invoice amount. But where does this get me? If the cabinet company has no money, what good is the judgement? Can the judge order the garnishment of the GC company to pay my bill? Can I take the company and the directors to court? Or is the judgement just a another piece of paper and I can't get blood from a stone.
Option 2... I'm at this point now but don't want to pull the trigger as it may have unforeseen repercussions. They use social media a lot to promote their GC business and they have a well known name around town. If I write a post warning other contractors not to do work for the cabinet company and reference that it is owned and operated by the GC it will hopefully force their hand into paying me. There are some possible downsides... It could hurt my future business possibilities, could it be considered slander? Does it hurt me getting a judgement down the road? My intention is to write up the post and send it to them first to give them the option to pay before it goes live... Or is that blackmail?
Thanks again for reading this any any replies.

2023.03.22 17:07 IlexAquifolia COVID booster in third trimester of pregnancy?

I'm (33F) 29 weeks pregnant, no other relevant conditions. I'm up to date on my COVID vaccinations - both Pfizer shots, a booster in December 2019, and the bivalent booster in September 2022 (when I was 8 weeks pregnant).
I'd like to get boosted again now that I'm in my third trimester, so that I could confer a little extra immunity to my baby in utero, but haven't been able to find a lot of guidance on whether it's allowed, recommended, or (possibly) not a good idea. My midwife sorta gave me a "sure if you want, can't hurt" reply, but I've also read some reports suggesting that getting over-boosted can actualy diminish immune response due to T-cell exhaustion.
Can anybody advise me on whether I should seek out a fifth shot or not? Thanks!

2023.03.22 17:05 GEO_UIUC_comms FINAL (🤞) contract bargaining session THIS FRIDAY! your last chance to make a difference

Hello, graduate workers of UIUC!
Exciting news: this will hopefully be the LAST post we ever have to make about how you should come to this week’s contract bargaining session, because this Friday will hopefully be our LAST contract bargaining session! This is the culmination of everything we've been fighting for this past year.
I know—it feels like every other week we’re telling you about THE MOST IMPORTANT BARGAINING SESSION YET! As we get closer to the end of the bargaining process, the more important the topics under discussion become, and the more we need GEO membership to attend bargaining sessions to show the UIUC Administration that we’re paying attention and we care about our wages.
We have good reason to believe that during this Friday's session, Administration will move towards our demands, including a wage increase above inflation and fee waivers. With luck (and pressure from you!), we'll have a contract by the end of the session.
During the last few bargaining sessions, the GEO bargaining team and Administration have been discussing the topics our membership has voted as most important: wages and healthcare. Admin’s latest offer was a $20,450 minimum for this year. Can you live on that? A living wage for one childless adult in Urbana-Champaign is $36,650, so for many of you, the answer to that question is “no.”
To further put Administration’s offer into context, here’s how it compares to minimums at what the university considers their “peer institutions” and to the GEO’s latest proposal of a $23,400 minimum, which we believe is comparable to other graduate programs, all in "Urbana-Champaign dollars":

Image ID: A graph showing graduate worker compensation adjusted to cost of living at eighteen different U.S. American universities, the current minimum at UIUC, the GEO’s proposed minimum for UIUC, and Administration’s proposed minimum for UIUC. The x axis goes from 0 to $38,000 and the y axis is universities sorted in descending order of adjusted compensation. “UIUC (now)” is the second-smallest compensation. “UIUC (Admin)” is the fifth-smallest compensation. “UIUC (GEO)” is exactly in the middle of the pack at 11th smallest/11th largest.
We calculated Cost-of-Living-Adjusted Compensation (before tax) as (Minimum academic year wage + health insurance paid by the university - student fees - health insurance paid by the grad worker)*(C-U cost of living/Location's cost of living).
It’s not like the university can’t afford to pay us more–their unrestricted reserves (money available to them without restrictions on its use) grew from $0.525 Billion in fiscal year 2019 to $1.307 Billion in fiscal year 2022.
Administration knows what they’re paying us; they know what the cost of living is in Urbana-Champaign; they know that their offer is below inflation. They don’t care. It’s their job to pay us as little as they can get away with.
Our best counter to this, as employees, isn’t graphs and testimonials and surveys about graduate worker quality of life. It’s showing up in numbers. The more of us care enough to show up, the more potential disruption we could cause. That’s it. That’s what the university administration cares about.
As academics, we want our well-cited arguments and the base, obvious fact that we can’t live on $20,000 a year to be enough to persuade the administration to pay us a living wage. It should be enough. It’s frustrating that it isn’t.
So we end up here again: asking you to come to the bargaining session this week. It’s hard to talk about how important showing up is without sounding like a cheesy pro-labor slogan about the power of the people, united! but, well, graduate workers showing up en masse is the most powerful tool we have.
Every additional graduate worker who attends the session is more pressure on the Administration, and therefore more potential money in your pocket over the course of our next contract.
Be at the Illini Union, Room C, this Friday, March 24th. The bargaining session is scheduled from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm; show up for whatever time you’re available. Bring a friend, bring three friends, bring your whole department.

It’s your last chance to make a difference. All you have to do is show up.

Friday 3/24, Illini Union Room C, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. See you there!

$2,800 in random stuff that sits in a safe ( pew pew )
$4k in luxury items I do not have to own
current plan is to finish fixing the subaru and sell the silverado that will get rid of the debt. and I will have a little cash to reinvest. or sell the fun assets i have and and pay off the debt faster?
I can flip another car, ROI would be on average $4k over month or two. or I can buy a house and rent it out? or just stocks?
I would love to learn how to invest other than cars since the market is not great. and houses currently seem like a bad idea with current rates and even if i build one for cheaper ( we have built houses before ) I still think the interest rates are high.
what should my next steps be? Often I hear have some fun when you are young but I rather retire early and not fall into debt in the meanwhile. Thanks in advance and if you want more info let me know.
