2023.03.22 16:10 Scyhaz Battery-backed Critical Loads Panel
Hi all,
In my neck of the woods, the house I've lived in for the past ~2.5 years has experienced over 7 multi-hour long power outages. I'm not really interested in getting a generator right now, but I'm considering a battery backup solution. I'm looking at a
Victron inverter charger for my system and some rack mounted LiFePO4 batteries to power everything. It has a built-in transfer switch so I don't think I need a manual transfer switch or interlock during an outage My understanding is I want to wire it so it goes main panel -> invertecharger AC input, invertecharger AC output -> critical loads sub panel. My main questions are is installing a sub panel complicated at all or pretty simple to DIY, and for ground and neutral would I run both a neutral and a ground back to the main panel or just the ground? Additionally next to my main panel is a box that holds all the wires for phone lines/coax/etc so I would probably have to put my subpanel next to that. If the load wires aren't long enough to reach the new panel would I be allowed to use wire nuts or Wago connectors to extend them with some more romex? Your answers and any additional feedback or advice is all greatly appreciated! :)

I have had a power outage. Since then Windows Defender asks for activation TPM, but this was already active befor the outage. Went into the BIOS and activated TPM. When rebooting the computebios I was given a Yes/No question => Yes reboot with new TPM if nothing was bitlocked or No and the bios would revert. I choose NO, and the computer went to Windows. I checked that Bitlocker was off. Worked a bit and went to bed. This morning the computer did not wake up by moving the mouse, so I restarted. The Yes/No question came again. I said YES, keep the TPM. Now the computer doesn't recognise my bootdevice anymore. I corrected the Boot order, but still he wouldn't boot. What to do? Disable TPM again? What settings do I change? I'm not an expert in Bios. Current settings:

Based on the PG&E map, it seems like the whole campus has power outage. Do we have our own electricity generator? Would I be able to get into the school buildings if I head to campus now?

I am starting my solar project and have plenty of questions. It's pretty obvious that there are some very knowledgeable people on this sub, and I am not one of them. I'm looking for good sources for both materials and information and opinions for my project, especially things that will save me from the larger errors.
The basic system idea is solar with enough batteries to smooth things out for daytime use, with fail over back to mains when voltage/output drops, and then a final failover to generator when the hurricane hits. Not sure how to integrate solar and generator during longer term power outages. I am not going off grid and don't mind that solar drops back to mains later in the day.
I can yard mount or roof mount the panels, although roof mount is potentially risky in a hurricane, and risky relative to the insurance company. Yard mount is risky if something hits the panels. I looked into some hurricane results, and the array in Puerto Rico survived because it was flat mounted on a flat roof - a different scenario.
I want to do this right, and I'm not trying to do it on a dollar and a prayer, although I do want to control the costs where reasonable, and to get whatever tax advantages are available.
I understand the basics and I can rough design the system, but I don't know this world, and much of what I have seen has not impressed me so far. Any tips, sources, links etc. will be greatly appreciated, and if there is something on this sub that I've overlooked, I can use that too. I have talked to some sales people, but so far that has been a non-event, which is what pointed me to DIY in the first place.
For now this is DIY, although I could change my mind and have someone take it over, but I at least want to know what I am talking about.
Thanks to all.

2023.03.22 11:47 RainViewerCreator Recent RainViewer radar animation of a severe storm hitting California: flooding rain, damaging winds, and power outages caused widespread destruction and posed danger to residents
| California is being battered by a potent storm with heavy rain, powerful winds, and intense snow, fueled by an atmospheric river. This storm has already caused widespread damage, flooding, and evacuations. According to the National Weather Service, the storm may be the strongest in years, bringing heavy rain to flood-prone urban areas. It has led to road closures due to flooding and debris flow, and a warning has been issued for possible mudslides in areas recently affected by wildfires. Tragically, several deaths have been reported, including a firefighter who lost their lives while responding to a crash caused by the storm. Tens of thousands of customers are without power, with some areas experiencing prolonged outages. The intense winds have made firefighting efforts more challenging, as gusts up to 70 mph have fanned the flames of wildfires. The storm is predicted to continue for several days, and officials are urging residents to take necessary precautions and stay informed to remain safe. https://i.redd.it/bnl7j9zqs9pa1.gif submitted by RainViewerCreator to StormComing [link] [comments] |
2023.03.22 11:22 Matrix_Grid Triple Boot Possible? -> Ventura, Arch, Win11
I recently had a power outage that messed with my Monterey install. However, everything is backup up, and I don't predict much annoyance reinstalling from a time machine backup.
I want to take advantage of this time to see if I can play with triple booting, and I've always wanted to play with Arch (I am a developer and comfortable with Unix) and VR in Windows.
My machine:
https://pcpartpicker.com/usesolvoid/saved/j4rMFT I need to use OpenCore with Ventura to use the FileVault Encryption because of sensitive work material.
Even without the triple boot, is it possible to get everything working on Ventura yet? (Netflix drm, sound, sleep, USB, Bluetooth, etc...)
Is this triple boot w/ FileVault possible? If so, could anyone point me in the right direction if there is a tutorial or guide?
Is there a known or common specific order I should install the OSs?
Thanks (I hope I provided all the needed info - LMK if not, and I will add)
P.S. Is it possible to put 2 GPUs, an Nvidia to use with Win and Arch, while using the Radeon with Ventura?

2023.03.22 11:13 First_Honey4536 Power on UDM SE after UPS power restored
| Hello there! A client's setup calls for a UDM-SE and a few switches. In order to protect the UDM-SE and its hard drive during power outages, I have it running on a UPS. A Raspberry Pi handles communication with the UPS (via APCUPSD) and triggers a graceful shutdown of the UDM-SE when the UPS's battery level drops below a certain level (via an SSH command). This all works great when the power outage is brief enough that the power is restored before the shutdown is triggered, or long enough that the UPS is completely drained. But, there is an edge case: if power is restored after the shutdown is triggered but before the UPS is completely drained (roughly a 3 minute window), the UDM-SE isn't booted back up and requires a manual intervention to cycle power. I'd like to setup a script that powers on the UDM-SE in this case. APCUPSD has an event I can hook into, but — despite much Googling — I'm not sure how I'd go about sending the UDM-SE a command to restart when it's in that graceful shutdown state (showing "Safe to Power Off" on its touchscreen). UDM-P from another setup showing \"Safe to Power Off\" Any ideas? submitted by First_Honey4536 to Ubiquiti [link] [comments] |
2023.03.22 10:44 OUPES__Official Are Portable Solar Panels Worth It?
Investing in portable solar panels can save you money in the long run by reducing your reliance on grid electricity. This is especially true if you live in an area with high electricity rates or experience frequent power outages.
Portable solar panels can also be a great option if you enjoy camping or outdoor activities, as they allow you to charge your devices even when you're off the grid.
In addition to the cost savings, portable solar panels are also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and promote sustainable living. By using clean, renewable energy from the sun, you're helping to reduce your impact on the environment.

2023.03.22 09:08 LanikaiMike EcoFlow for power outages?
A question for those of you farther down the prepping lane…. I am on a remote site with a well. WIND is the #1 threat to power here. No power. No water. I am interested in the EcoFlow as an alternative to propane-powered generator. My thought is to start with a unit (units?) large enough to power my submersible pump, and add additional units/modules over time until I can power some lights, propane forced air furnace, etc. Any experiences out there with the EF system versus a conventional backup generator? Thanks for your perspective. LM

2023.03.22 08:56 Past-Custard-4941 I miss this game so much
I had so many games in my backlog i didnt touch. I quit dota2 (too much toxicity and too long a single match for someone living in a third world country with random power outages). I was hooked to this game since day 01. It was like a dream. I used to dream with my friend about an open world game where you could RKO or chokeslam people from top of a skyscrapper, spear them on the roads. This game fulfilled all of that. The developers listened to feedback and tried their best to fix the broken parts, added quads, trios , new moves and new maps. It was heavenly. Wanted to see wwe or aew collaborations of some.sorts in the not so distant future. Now, ever since the game was removed, i have not touched a single game. I dont even use my PC or PS5 anymore. Giant swinging people in the river, sueprkicking them, etc ..felt amazing each time. I never got tired of RV for a single day. I awlays thought people would gradually elave and it will be filled with bots but the sudden news felt like a shock. I hope it comes back stronger. I am tired of the Hardcore shooter BR games now..I just want a good BR fighting game.

2023.03.22 08:45 broken_gage Recover Lost Partition from Power Outage
Hi everyone. A power outage hit my home today and knocked out my UPS. After the power recovered, I found that the partition on one of my raid disappeared. In disk manager it shows the disk is not initialized. I'm suspect that it is damaged partition table, the data itself may be safe. Is there any I can recover the partition table?
I have used data recovery software before, but most of them required a destination to pull out the files. The raid is so large and I don't have any other thing in hand to storage all the data, plus the process takes days if not weeks due to the slow drives and interfaces. Therefore it would be great if there is software that can recover the partition table without the need of copying out all the data.
Thanks.
