2023.03.22 17:37 Advanced_Falcon_2816 Huge GTA 6 Leak Claims Rockstar’s New RAGE9 Graphics Engine Is Incredible
Besides offering up chaotic open-world action, one thing that Rockstar's games have done ever since Grand Theft Auto III is push the envelope in terms of technology. This is somewhat debatable up to Grand Theft Auto IV, which stunned audiences with its mix of macro-scale simulation and micro-scale detail. GTA V and the newer Red Dead Redemption 2 have continued this tradition, and both are still capable of putting the hurt on modern PCs. That's largely thanks to their forward-looking design that integrates features that contemporary systems weren't really ready for when the released.
gtaonlinerain GTA V can still look startlingly realistic at times.
The thing is, even though it just got a re-release on the current-generation consoles, GTA V originally released in 2013. The game's still fun, of course, especially the online mode that has seen continual updates over the years. The technology behind the title is getting a little dated, though, and fans of the series are understandably chomping at the bit for a new release. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA VI (or at least, the next GTA game) is in the works, but as usual, the company hasn't released any information about the title, nor mentioned a release window.
The leaks and rumors that we've heard so far place a hypothetical "GTA VI" at the end of next year, or even in 2025. That's a lot of development time, even if the company only moved into active development in the middle of last year, as is supposedly the case. In a time when almost every other development house (from Square-Enix to CD Projekt Red) is moving to the Unreal Engine, it seems like Rockstar will thankfully stick with its own in-house tech, known as RAGE.
chrisklippeltweet
That bit of information comes from a tweet by Chris Klippel, who is among other things the creator of Rockstar Mag, a French-language gaming news site that focuses on topics surrounding Rockstar Games and its releases. You can see the tweet above. Chris says that he has been in touch with people who have seen the latest version of RAGE in action, and that its graphics engine is "assez incroyable." Chris describes the latest version as RAGE9, which is interesting; Rockstar doesn't talk about RAGE as a separate product from its games, likely because it doesn't license the tech.
gtaonlinearcade The arcade area added to GTA Online would look amazing with ray-traced lighting.
It's not hard to imagine what sort of features the game engine might include to warrant that description. Heavy usage of ray-traced graphics will go a long way toward impressive presentation, but based on what we've heard in the past about GTA VI, it seems likely that the latest RAGE might be more impressive in its ability to scale content from infinitesimal details all the way up to gigantic cityscapes. We've seen demonstrations of similar technology in Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5, and given the nature of "GTA", such capability would be perfectly suited to the games.
gta5crowd
Another impressive characteristic in GTA VI might just be the NPC AI. Historically, Grand Theft Auto's NPCs have been extremely simple stand-ins mostly intended to give the scene a realistic look without having much in the way of personality or believable behavior. That could all change in the next GTA game, based on a patent filed in October 2020.
From what we've heard, the next Grand Theft Auto title will be set in Vice City once again, so look forward to exploring the city's tropical environs. No word on the chronological setting, though; it could be set as far back as the Cuban Missile Crisis, or it could be set in the modern day. We also don't know necessarily what platforms the title will appear for, but based on Rockstar's history, we'd expect it to be available for the PS5 and Xbox before it appears on PC later.

2023.03.22 17:02 norcalbutton Kitchen Fridge sticks out into the garage, causing temp issues
As the title stated, our fridge is enclosed in an insulation free drywall enclosure that sticks out into the garage. I have pics if needed. I don't know dimensions yet. Actually, the entire house is basically without much insulation, though the windows are double pane. The home was built in 1957 as a track house. Other neighbors have long since done a garage conversion so I don't know if others had the same type of layout.
The garage is small. The wall faces the west side. We are inland Northern California. Our summers are scorching and winters are mild. But in the summer the top of the fridge gets warm and stuff freezes in the fridge portion. The freezer is on the bottom. It's a small, simple not very fancy house and I'm looking for a low cost DIY solution to regulating fridge temps a bit better. The fridge just fits inside the dimensions of 5he enclosure so there is no way to get anything easily inside there. I'm thinking even wrapping insulation around the outside if necessary. I have no idea if that's ridiculous or not.
Either way, we need to get this house better insulated because we are bleeding heating and cooling cost. We stay inside one room 6 months of the year it feels like. We make just a smidge(like $150) above income requirements for any sort of assistance for utility bills. And since I am currently unable to work, we are on one income without much wiggle room.

2023.03.22 16:48 f1newsbot Mercedes explains approach to changing F1 car concept
After the Bahrain Grand Prix, team boss Toto Wolff made it clear that it was time to look at a change of direction, and that there would be “no holy cows” in terms of sticking to established ideas.
The definition of exactly what the concept of an F1 car entails has been a talking point in recent weeks, with Wolff making it clear that it extends beyond the trademark ‘size zero’ sidepods that the team transferred from last year’s W13 to its current car.
Speaking in a Mercedes Q&A video, Elliott acknowledged that the definition of concept is a loose one.
“The simple answer is it means different things to different people,” he said. “I think after Bahrain we had to accept we weren’t where we wanted to be, that we had to look at all the things that make up our car and work out what could we be doing differently, how could we get more performance, because there is a significant gap for us to catch up to the front.
“So the engineers are busy looking at aerodynamics, they are looking at the shape of the car, things like the sidepod geometry, the floor geometry, have we missed a trick?
“But we are also looking in the simulation world of are we targeting the right things, are we pushing the aerodynamics in the right direction?
“We’re looking at the mechanical set-up of the car, are there things there that we are missing? What else can we bring to the car that is going to add performance? And we’re trying to do that as fast as we possibly can, because we want to get back to the front.
“We want to be competing at the front, and the only way we are going to do that is by accepting we are not in the position we want to be, and fighting and working really hard to get back there.”
Elliott stressed that the W14’s poor performance in Bahrain was a “reality check” for the Brackley-based squad, but he did point out it has energised the team into looking for solutions.
“Obviously, Bahrain was a real reality check and to find ourselves in the position we find ourselves in, not being competitive, was a real disappointment,” he said. “A disappointment for the whole team.
“But you have to get yourself through that, and you have to turn that into what we are going to do about it? How are we going to bring the sort of the energy and what we are capable of doing?
“How are we going to move ourselves forward? How are we going to get ourselves back in the fight?
“And actually, walking around the factory there is huge amount of energy, there is a huge amount of work going on, we are starting to see some of the development come through already that is going to get us back into this championship fight.
“All we can do is just keep pushing. I've been really pleased to see the attitude in the team.”
Asked about potential form in the Australian GP, he said: “Firstly, our main aim at the moment is to continue learning. We've only had two races so far. It's really difficult to build trends from that.
“In terms of the actual characteristics of the circuit, Australia is probably front-limited and probably more like Jeddah than like Bahrain. So, let's hope that we can find another small step forward, get a bit more competitive, find the learning that is going to help us move forward in the long term.”

2023.03.22 16:42 zaylong Destiny is a pushover, and nobody respects him
I saw the vid on the Brittany bridge burn, and I joined the sub to make this post because I was yelling at the screen as nobody hit on the ACTUAL point. You can watch the video
here
Disclaimer: I don't have any ill will towards Destiny, I like his personality and his content. This is just a critique of how he operates and navigates his life leading others to disrespect him.
On how Destiny comes across at times
Timestamp 55:43
Melina is 100% correct, it DOES sound like Destiny is saying "yeah most people can't handle it but I can, cuz I'm just built differently." It ESPECIALLY comes off like that because people who are into cuckoldry (Not saying Destiny is a cuck, just highlighting a parallel) also have the same pattern of speaking about their lifestyle.
One of the big reasons that some men enjoy cuckoldry is that they feel like they're a stronger person than the average joe because they can handle their SO sleeping with other people, but still, come home to them and have a stable relationship, unlike these cucked dues who stay monogamous. Proving that they are the better man because "yeah you had her body but I have her heart, you weren't good enough for her. You were just a thing to be used, a living dildo, but she actually loves me".
I've lurked on some bull/cuck forums because I was genuinely curious as to WHY and HOW a man could want to see his wife get plowed by a muscular black guy with a 10-inch cock, and this sentiment is basically the answer I've read by many men posting on these forums.
All I'm saying is, Destiny's comments about how most people can't handle polygamy, or it's not meant for most people, normal people get too jealous and shouldn't do it, things get messy, well I LIKE drama; I can handle it cuz I'm so different, and how he's exceptional quite literally is what actual cuckolds say. And this parallel makes what he says sound inherently boisterous.
Again, I don't think destiny is a cuck, iirc he sleeps around more than Melina, and from what I've heard from prior vids, shes is more in favor of closing the relationship than he is, and he's even admitted that he's broken the "rules" of their relationship before and slept with people. So yeah, definitely not a cuck, but he does use cuck rhetoric.
When Melina reiterates that he should establish boundaries, Destiny incredulously mocks here, saying something to the effect of "oh let me write up a list of things people can't say about me, etc" when in reality, establishing boundaries is as simple as asserting yourself right then and there in a situation.
Example: My friend shit talks my bigass forehead and my hairline is too far back, he might just be joking, but if it genuinely offends me I'm not gonna just gonna let him doormat me, I'm gonna stick up for myself and tell him to STFU don't talk about me like that, I might bark at him, I might even hit him or push him. The point is to let him know he can't disrespect me for free like that.
If destiny was in this situation he might just let it fly, and he might joke back, but that sets a rapport for how people are allowed to interact with him. Over time as he does this repeatedly, it becomes his
reputation. I.e. he becomes known as the guy who you can sling mud at and he won't say shit about it.
Why people don't respect Destiny
The reason why people keep backstabbing and secretly shit-talking Destiny is that nobody respects him, and there are a few reasons why.
Boundaries As everybody under the sun has already said, Destiny does not establish boundaries. However, the bigger picture that nobody is acknowledging is that Destiny has built a reputation for himself for being a pushover because of those lack of boundaries. It's not about "Oh why did you talk crap about me specifically at this time at this moment" and trying to psychoanalyze people's behavior post-hac rationale, it's simple human interaction. His reputation is that he's a pushover, so regardless of whether or not someone
likes Destiny, that doesn't inherently translate to people
respecting Destiny
Example: Say my dad says something/does something to piss me off, we've all been there. I wouldn't shit talk him to everybody I know, I'd keep the event private, maybe talk to my wife about it so I can vent, but since I love and respect my father I'm not going to drag his name through the mud.
Conversely, Destiny guests will have a pow-wow with him on stream, but they also don't mind shit-talking him off-stream either because why not? Destiny is a pushover and he's lame, and a cuck, etc, etc so who tf cares what he thinks?
Running his mouth Destiny talks a lot of shit about other people or critiques other people and breaks a person down like all the different parts of a car. There's a great entertainment value in this, but of course, the trade-off is some people will become actively hostile towards him because they don't want to feel exposed or embarrassed, it fosters resentment. It doesn't matter if he's right or wrong in his assessment of others.
He's in a poly relationship Regardless of whether or not it's a valid lifestyle choice in the culture Destiny lives in it's not a respectable lifestyle. That's just how it is. There's this attempt to rationalize/logic his way out of it, but it does not matter. There doesn't have to be a rational reason as to why people dislike poly relationships. People don't respect others who engage in it, and it's simple as that.
Example: There is a tribe in Ethiopia called the Bodi. Seasonally this tribe has a competition wherein the men who participate have to become the fattest and most extended belly. (kinda like how you see those emaciated Africans with large stomachs) But there are specific standards to this competition. You have to have a big belly and a thick ass. You can't have "flabby" fat, it must be large but fairly firm. The thickest man wins, and he gains respect from his peers and women who want to be with him.
I give this example to say it's a weird tradition, and it's not like they don't have food to spare if they're able to do this competition so frequently, it's pretty illogical but it's their culture so that's what they value. Same as us in the USA, we don't generally respect those in poly relationships, they're typically relegated to reality TV (sister wives for example).
Conclusion
With all these things combined, Destiny has built himself a reputation for being a pushover. That's why Sneako felt comfortable talking trash about his wife, That's why Aba felt like he could talk about their "hedonistic lifestyle", that's why so many "orbiters" backstab him. He gives this IDGAF attitude but then is surprised when others also don't give a fuck either. He calls it common human decency, but in reality, respect is earned not freely given. He will have to work to rebuild his reputation as a person who
demands respect.
Sorry for the long post, I just had to really get this off my chest because nobody is talking about, respect and reputation which I feel is the real underlying issue here.

2023.03.22 16:41 SlowShoes There are no games to play! (January-March Edition 2023)
https://www.rufftalkvr.com/blog/there-are-no-games-to-play-january-march-2023-edition/ When I read posts about how there are no games to play on the Quest, I simply can’t relate. I’m a voracious consumer of VR games, experiences and demos and currently have over 330 of them on my headset (not including my PCVR library). These experiences are a combination of both old and new items, and my wish list and library just keeps growing week after week with new releases, recommendations and game updates. This year, I wanted to keep track of all the games I’ve played and keep coming back to and catalogue them here in hopes that they may give you some fresh ideas of games to play, or reasons to revisit older games due to their updates or improvements.
Some of the games listed below, I can forsee playing all year long, and to be fair, others I've tried are not my cup of tea, but they may interest you enough to try them out. In either case, here are my quick thoughts on the 21 games I’ve played so far from January to March of 2023 along with links to them on the store.
- Bocce Time! ($8.99) From the developer: In Bocce Time! you'll head down to a peaceful park or atmospheric pier to test your bocce skills across 12 distinct courts. Jump into a quick match to 1v1 a random opponent online, create and join private rooms with up to 8 players, or play against AI across 3 difficulties to unlock additional ball customization options. With full cross-play, everyone's invited to join the fun! It's Bocce Time! My thoughts: This game has seen so many updates since it’s release and if you haven’t checked it out, there’s a free trial that opens up the whole game so you can try it out for yourself. With two parks (10 courses), an AI bot to challenge (that has great quips), collectible balls and support for up to eight people, this is a wonderful social game to play with friends. The Walkabout Mini Golf vibes are strong with this game, so players of that game will feel right at home. The latest update unlocked the entire park as a play area, and ensures that you and your friends will have unlimited options for where to play from. Along with Discord tournaments available if you're feeling competitive, this game is a real hidden gem and has grown a lot since its release. Absolutely worth a go, especially at that price point.
- Golf+ ($29.99) From the developer: GOLF+ is the ultimate VR Golf experience and the exclusive VR Golf game of the PGA TOUR. Join your friends for a round on Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No. 2, TPC Sawgrass and more. Want something more casual? Hang out at Topgolf for a night of music and games. My thoughts: Simply one of the best games on the app store. With all the great new updates such as Beat the Pro and new courses dropping every so often, it's one game that will be on my Quest until the next headset comes out. With the official PGA licenses, a variety of match options and support for four players, it’s an essential Quest game to play alone or with friends.
- Little Cities ($19.99) From the developer: Escape to the charming world of Little Cities, the most loved VR city building simulation game. Create your own little city and watch it come to life – from a humble village to a bustling metropolis. Design the layout and strategically plot amenities to make a perfect city where your citizens love to live. My thoughts: The latest update added citizens to the game. This adds a lot more flavor to your city and brings more life to your city. It’s a pretty simple SimCity style game that should keep you entertained for a few hours. I enjoyed this one, but wasn’t blown away. The extra DLC courses and achievements will give you more play time if you find yourself enjoying this one though.
- Compound ($19.99) From the developer: "COMPOUND is a randomized, rogue-lite, free-roaming shooter for Virtual Reality veterans. Duck and dodge around enemy fire in a tough-as-nails retro FPS with multiple locomotion options. Prepare to die - a lot - until you are good enough to reach the heart of The Corporation and take back what belongs to everyone..." My experience: Essentially Doom on Quest. The awesome blocky aesthetics work perfectly in this world. With a great gameplay loop and exciting gunplay this one will easily get its hooks into you. I found myself saying "just one more run" more often than I had time for. This single player shooter has so many achievements and difficulty levels that it kept me busy for quite some time. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and still have more to do. A must buy for any fan of the genre.
- Walkabout Mini Golf ($14.99) From the developer: 8 unique 18-hole courses to master. Unlock NIGHT MODE for more challenging versions of all courses. Play solo, 1v1 online quick match, or create a private room with up to 8 players. Extremely accurate physics feel just like the real thing. Collect over 188 custom balls hidden throughout. Solve treasure hunts on each hard course to earn special putters. My thoughts: What more needs to be said about this excellent game? It’s on my constant rotation of games to play alone, with friends, or even with strangers - as the community is so warm and welcoming. The community is truly one of the best, and there are several discord servers for tournaments, weekly meetups and more. An essential game that every Quest owner should have.
- VR Pool ($19.99) From the developer: ForeVR Pool brings the coolest pool halls from around the globe straight to your living room! Challenge friends, family, and in-game pros to a game of 8-ball pool – no table required. Battle 12 bots to level up and take on Legendary challengers. Join a Quick Match or jump into a private multiplayer party! Friend in town? Share your headset with Pass & Play. Up the ante and stake in-game coins in matches against other players. My thoughts: This was pretty feature-light and choppy when it first launched, but it now has 9-ball in addition to 8-ball. If you bought it early, it's worth a quick revisit. It sticks pretty true to the ForeVR formula with its aesthetics and collectibles. The graphics aren’t going to win any awards and frankly put me off of it when I first booted it up, but the physics hold up and it’s a good time against the AI or a friend. With 2v2 matches coming soon, that is where this game could really be worth revisiting for some multiplayer fun and friendly smack talk.
- After the Fall - (Played on PC $29.99, available on Quest $29.99) From the developer: Welcome to ‘The Line’... Decades have passed since the apocalypse turned 1980s Los Angeles into a snow-crested wasteland, overrun by mutated undead. Starting out in an underground camp with up to 32 other player survivors, you take up arms as a new Harvest Runner. Your mission? Venturing out above ground to expand the Line’s reach into the city and fuel mankind’s survival for another day. My thoughts: What a fun game. The gunplay and sheer amount of enemies on screen via PC is just stunning. You're set in an apocalyptic world and must shoot your way out while gathering resources. The atmosphere is stunning, and the graphics are top notch as well. While I’m sure it’s downgraded a bit to run on Quest, don’t let that hold you back. You can play this co-op with up to three other players and bots will fill you out to four. The teamwork this game offers is wonderful. Find a friend or two and jump in this one, or play with the ever-full lobbies of people looking to join up. The latest Descension update adds two new maps and a ton of other bug fixes and gameplay additions. It's a great time to jump in with a friend!
- Cosmoniuous High (Played on PC $29.99, available on Quest $29.99) From the developer: From the creators of award winning titles 'Job Simulator' and 'Vacation Simulator', comes a new original creation—the comically catastrophic Cosmonious High! Welcome to your alien high school that's definitely completely free of malfunctions! After crash-landing into your first day, you'll unlock powers, explore the halls, and save the school from cosmic chaos. My thoughts: I would consider this is the third entry in the Job Simulator series - even though it's technically not in the same world. I’d really recommend you play them in order to fully appreciate the experience this game has to offer. Job Simulator was the first game, with jokes and fun interaction. Vacation Simulator expanded on that idea with similar characters, and what Cosmonius does is take the ideas of object interaction and conversations and cranks it up to the max. I had so much fun experimenting, talking with NPC’s, exploring the school and seeing what story the game had to offer. This is one of those games that just speaks to people like me who likes to push the boundaries to see what you can do in a game and rewards players for experimenting. It's a heartwarming game that continues to get quality of life and accessibility updates.
- The Invisible Hours - (Played on PC $29.99, but coming out on Quest, currently available in the Rift store.) From the developer: The Invisible Hours is a complex murder mystery playable with or without a VR headset. Players freely explore an intricate web of interwoven stories within a sprawling mansion. A group of strangers receive a curious invitation from the enigmatic inventor, Nikola Tesla, offering each of them the chance to make amends for their darkest wrongdoings. When the last guest arrives at Tesla’s isolated mansion laboratory, they find him dead – murdered. Disgraced Swedish detective, Gustaf Gustav, vows to find the killer amongst the other guests: a blind butler, a convicted murderer, the world’s most famous actress, Tesla’s former assistant, the son of a wealthy railroad magnate, and rival inventor Thomas Edison. But none of these people are what they seem. My thoughts: I heard so many great things about this game and it's really more of an interactive story than anything. You find yourself moving around the mansion, piecing together the intricate story and learning how all these people relate to one another and their hidden secrets. I had a great time with this game, it had a unique concept that kept me fully engaged throughout.
- Pokerstars VR (Free) From the developer: PokerStars, the world’s leading poker brand, has combined live and online poker in a truly immersive VR experience. Featuring Quest Pro support with face and eye tracking, advanced haptics, and mixed reality passthrough! My thoughts: This is one of my go-to games with friends. Once you get past the initial low-stakes tables where kids play and go all-in on many hands, you’ll find a new set of players that actually play smart poker and like to chat. If you have some friends, you can create your own private room and avoid that all together. It’s a relaxing game where you can meet new people and just chill in VR. It’s my social game where I go to unwind. Recent updates have seen them add craps and social poker rooms with slots and roulette. If you're looking to relax and play some poker, this free to play game will hit the spot. You can easily play this game for free and not ever spend a dime.
- Path of the Warrior ($19.99) From the developer: We interrupt this broadcast with breaking news...chaos in the streets of Rage City tonight! The myriad local gangs, once at constant war with each other have now unified under a mysterious new crime boss...Mr. S. Thugs have flooded the entire city, unleashing a wave of terror. The police are overwhelmed and the public is in imminent danger! Can anyone put a stop to the crime wave? Can anyone save Rage City? My thoughts: This fighting game is one that you can blow off steam with. It harkens back to the old Double Dragon or Final Fight arcade days and I highly recommend you play through this game with a friend as you’ll be laughing your way through it at the absurd combos and interactive objects and scenery you can use to defeat your foes. Find a bit of open room to play in, and punch your way through the game.
- Half Life Alyx Mod: The Undertow - (PC only, Free) From the developer: You play as Alyx, tasked with delivering a mysterious briefcase to the owner of an underground night club, upon arriving you realize this deal might not be so straight forward... Expected Playtime: 50min - 1hr. Features: Full-fledged Story with Voice Acting, Custom Sounds, Assets, and Gameplay, Unique Puzzles & Engaging Combat, Full Single-Controller Support and Drinkable Vodka (Finally). My thoughts: I’ve been working my way through some Half Life Alyx mods that bubble up to the top via Reddit or online posts. This one found its way into my queue and while it had a really unique setting, it was extremely buggy in one spot, to the point where I had to restart a section close to 20 times. I didn't find the end game satisfying, and with so many other great mods, it was a miss for me.
- Sheaf - Together EP (PC only, Free) From the developer: Enter virtual reality to listen to the debut EP “Together” of synthwave producer Sheaf. No gameplay involved -- just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music while you drive through a retro low poly world. The EP features 3 tracks, and each track comes with its own scenery, tailor made to fit its mood. You can start each track separately from the main menu. My thoughts: As noted in the developer description, this is really more a zen-like experience where you’re sitting in a car that drives down a road while chill music is playing. Certainly different from a lot of other “zone out” experiences that focus on geometric shapes, but the blocky visuals really conflicted with the chill vibe it was going for. Not really my jam, but if you like chill experiences, it might be for you. You certainly can't beat the price.
- Shooty Fruity ($19.99) From the developer: Do your job whilst shooting guns! Shooty Fruity combines job simulation with exhilarating combat that makes you feel like a true action hero - whether McClane, Wick or Rambo. Take on new roles and unlock weapons to fight your way through your career. Scan shoot repeat! My thoughts: I kept seeing this game show up in sales and various feeds so I finally tried it out. After 30 minutes I just was not having any fun at all. While the enemies were silly (various fruits and vegetables), the gun mechanics were lackluster. I just did not get into the gameplay loop of shooting and scanning groceries. It was just too repetitive for me and for that reason I can’t recommend it.
- What the Bat? ($24.99) From the developer: From the creators of WHAT THE GOLF? comes a silly VR game about navigating life with baseball bats for hands. Swing your way through over 100 levels of batting, cooking, shooting, smashing, parking, painting, pickling, petting, and WHATnot. My thoughts: I was a huge fan of What the Golf on iOS, and was quite excited when I heard about this sequel. The “high” price point turned me off for a while, but when UploadVR gave it their “game of the year” award, I finally pulled the trigger. I had high hopes, and it was fun… at first, but the gimmick started to wear really thin on me rather quickly. It just didn’t seem to have the same magic the first game had. I kept going through it in hopes that something would change, or capture that original feeling, but honestly, it was a grind to finish such a short game. I understand I’m probably in the minority here, but I was quite disappointed.
- Superhot ($24.99) From the developer: Multi-award winning, smash-hit SUPERHOT VR blurs the lines between cautious strategy and unbridled mayhem. The definitive VR action experience. Time moves only when you move. No regenerating health bars. No conveniently placed ammo drops. It's you, alone, outnumbered and outgunned. Snatch weapons from fallen enemies to shoot, slice and dodge through a truly cinematic hurricane of slow-motion bullets. It’s like nothing you have ever played before. Something is different here. Lose track of what’s real. My thoughts: You know it, and you probably love it. Like so many others, so did I. This was one of my first VR experiences years ago and I finally saw it through to the end. This game can be quite demanding for some levels requiring accurate shooting, movement and timing. This game offers a really unique take on gameplay and multiple ways to get through some levels really increase the replayability. With the unique achievements to strive for you have a real winner. A must own for all gamers.
- Tube Be Continued (Demo) (Full game $14.99) From the developer: Hello! Welcome to TUBE Industries: a hamster owned and operated tube puzzle emporium! Prepare for a tube-based, puzzle-filled, HAM-PACKED adventure with our charismatic leader: The BOSS. Here at TUBE Industries we provide the puzzles and you provide… the brains. No shady business here! My thoughts: I like to look at the new App Lab games that come out every now and then and I’m a sucker for a good puzzle game. This is a game where you connect mazes together for hamsters to run through. It was a weird story that sees you working with a Hamster CEO trying to save his company from the Board, which are all hamsters. Really weird stuff, but while the demo was fun, the puzzles were a bit on the simple side and ultimately, I just did not think it was worth buying at this point. That being said, if the demo grabs you I could see this being a fun few hours with new content planning to be added.
- Dart Racer (Free) From the developer: Dart Racer is an arcade racing game where you compete against AI during race and other players on the online leaderboards - features multiple race tracks and environments - steering based on throttle differential - interactive tutorial - customizable game and comfort settings - optional hand tracking. My thoughts: Now this is podracing! It really did feel like I was doing some classic Star Wars podracing, but it was quite tough to learn the controls. Once I got that figured out, there certainly was some fun to be had, but unfortunately, it just was okay for me and I dropped out after a bit. Give it a try for free, and keep in mind there are plenty of motion assists to play with so you don't get sick.
- Nock ($9.99) From the developer: Nock is bow and arrow soccer. Skate and fly around a pitch while using a bow and arrow to blast the ball into the other team’s goal. Compete in multiplayer ranked matches, or play casual custom games with your friends! Like a real sport, Nock is easy to learn but difficult to master. Block arrows let you create obstacles and you can even use your body to make a goal or save. A fast-moving ball can knock you out. Skill-based matchmaking keeps every game extremely close and competitive. Casual modes let you challenge yourself against bots or play with friends in custom matches. My thoughts: Rocket League but with archery. While I’m not a fan of archery games in general, this game really had the physics dialed in. I always felt like I was in full control of my movement and bow and arrow. Nothing ever felt like it was off, and the aiming was spot on. Every hit of the ball, or miss was my fault. An absolute blast with with up to four friends, and that’s how I recommend you play it - with friends. But there are leagues and tournaments readily available if get into the game. That being said, I’m pretty terrible at it, and will only play with friends who can tolerate my terrible skills.
- Into the Radius ($29.99) From the developer: An atmospheric open-world single-player survival shooter. You find yourself in the middle of the blighted zone, cut from the outside world. Your guns and your wits are all you have left. Fight the deadly enemies, dodge dangerous anomalies, and collect wondrous artifacts on your way to the Radius center to find your way out. My thoughts: I found myself constantly saying “I can’t believe this actually runs on a Quest.” The amount of items you can interact with, areas available to explore, systems to learn and missions to accept can be quite overwhelming. Honestly it took me about 5-7 hours of gameplay, tutorials and youtube videos until finally the game “clicked.” After this one fateful mission where I was over encumbered with items, low on ammo with minimal health and dealing with enemies at every turn, I was totally immersed and was having the time of my life. It was an absolute blast and despite being so tense - a joy to play. I did tone down the difficulty a bit, which made it much more playable and less punishing. Truly a great game if you like the loop of scavenging, planning your route ahead and making sure literally every bullet counts. While it lacks in story, it does have a lot of environmental details and little things that you have to find for yourself. If you like survival games, it’s almost perfect.
- Surgineer ($9.99) From the developer: Have you ever dreamed of being a real surgeon? Well… you are not gonna learn that here. Welcome to the most unrealistic surgery simulator where everyone can instantly become a terrible doctor. You will have to solve hilarious surgical procedures ranging from CPR to brain transplant or even removing alien eggs from a poor patient using a robotic arm! You always thought you had that surgeon in you? You better have a bulletproof malpractice insurance before getting your virtual hands on a patient! My thoughts: At such a low price point, I wasn’t expecting much. I remember playing Surgeon Simulator back in the day and this looked like that. Much to my disappointment it was much more terrible than I had hoped. Absolutely no fun was to be had here. I constantly fought with the controls, many times had no clue what to do and finally gave up in frustration. I understand part of the appeal is the wonkiness of it, but this game requires someone with a lot more patience than me to get some fun out of it.
There you have it, 21 different games played in three months. I would say there are plenty of games to play and enjoy on the Quest. I hope you find a few that you might not have heard of, or that you might find worth revisiting. Let me know on the Ruff Talk
Discord channel if you have a game you enjoy that I should try, I'm always open to recommendations. You can also find this article on the

You can also find this article on the
RuffTalkVR Blog Until then, I hope your next VR experience is a memorable one.

2023.03.22 16:39 SlowShoes There are no games to play! (January-March)
When I read posts about how there are no games to play on the Quest, I simply can’t relate.
You can play this co-op with up to three other players and bots will fill you out to four. The teamwork this game offers is wonderful. Find a friend or two and jump in this one, or play with the ever-full lobbies of people looking to join up. The latest Descension update adds two new maps and a ton of other bug fixes and gameplay additions. It's a great time to jump in with a friend!

2023.03.22 16:37 SlowShoes There are no games to play! (January-March 2023)
When I read posts about how there are no games to play on the Quest, I simply can’t relate.
2023.03.22 16:20 AutoModerator [Get] Dan Koe – Digital Economics Masters Degree Full Course Download
| Get the course here: https://www.genkicourses.com/product/dan-koe-digital-economics-masters-degree/ Dan Koe – Digital Economics Masters Degree https://preview.redd.it/e5bm5i19z5pa1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b38f3d722558909f9bfa22127af1347efd52b4ef What You Get Phase 0) Digital Economics 101 The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date. This is an onboarding module that will get you up to speed so we can get straight into the material. This will be required to finish before the start date. - Gain a deep understanding of all of the pieces in the digital economy.
- Learn about the future of media and code — the front-end and backend of the internet — so you can focus your efforts.
- Understand digital leverage, distribution, no-code tools, and digital assets so you can take part in the mental & financial wealth transfer.
Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with *what will sell.*You already have the answer. You just don’t have the clarity. - Develop a long-term strategy to create your own niche — meaning you don’t have to worry about your “competition” playing status games.
- Discover your life’s work, curiosities, and obsessions. I see too many people that are uncertain about this for years.
- Cultivate and turn your vision, goals, and values into a brand that attracts an audience you love interacting with (and that will buy from you, and only you).
Phase 2) Content Strategy There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. **That they are congruent with and trust.**It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable. That’s what separates you from the sea of people posting surface-level copy-cat style posts.Example and putting my money where my mouth is: - Become an expert-level speaker or writer on the topics you care about.
- Never run out of content ideas for your posts or promotions (without using content templates — that’s how you stay a commodity).
- Create posts, blogs, tweets, images, and videos that resonate with other’s on a deep level. People will actually ask you how you got so good at what you do.
- Separate yourself from the ocean of B-tier creators that struggle to sell their products, services, andhave their ideas stick in the head of their audience.
- Implement our Epistemic Research Method — which is just a fancy way of saying scientific research method… but it’s for researching your mind to craft brilliant content and product ideas.
Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge ( that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them). That is what people pay for.Considering 95% of the market are beginners… if you are good at something, you can help them get to your level ( no matter how “basic” you think the information is).Do you not watch basic content all day anyway? People don’t want new information, they want to be reminded of what works. - Use our Minimum Viable Offer strategy to start monetizing immediately (and have something to improve over time, rather than procrastinating until it’s perfect).
- Have a strategy for reducing the time you spend working over time (as you build leverage and improve your offer).
- Know how to create your own customers from the audience you are building, instead of “finding” the right customer for your offer.
- Take the guesswork out of building coaching, consulting, or digital product offers.
Phase 4) Marketing Strategy You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way). - Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
- Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
- Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.
Bonus) The Creator Command Center The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales. Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan.***And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days.***That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work. submitted by AutoModerator to Affordable_Courses [link] [comments] |
2023.03.22 16:17 cfx_4188 Systemd Tragedy
| Tragedy is "a form of drama based on human suffering that evokes an accompanying catharsis or pleasure in the audience. Benno Rice drew inspiration from this definition in his talk at the 2019 linux.conf.au conference. His talk focused on the history of systemd, which has had its fair share of suffering. And the audience definitely enjoyed it, so it all adds up. All in all, it's a sympathetic and subtle look at one tumultuous chapter in the history of Linux systemd. Rice was also inspired by an article by Aurynn Shaw on the so-called "culture of contempt." According to Shaw, people show contempt (for example, for developers who use a different programming language) as a social sign, a way of showing that they belong to the right group. Certainly there is a culture in this story: large groups collectively show general contempt for systemd and for those who use it. Hence the concept of change or resistance. Yes, familiar things are convenient. But they are not necessarily good, especially if nothing has changed for years. According to Rice, the origin of systemd stems from the roots of the Unix system itself, which was a "happy accident"-a reaction to the external complexity of earlier systems. Unix was radically simplified in every respect, including the loading of user space. An init subsystem took care of the whole "household", including the mount of file systems and the launching of daemons. Although these are quite different tasks, they were combined into a single process. In those days the important daemons were few and far between: cron, update (whose job it was to occasionally write out file system superblocks), and the init process itself. By the time 4BSD came out, Unix had a proper getty daemon, network daemons like routed and telnetd, and the "super daemon" inetd. This is where things started to get interesting, but for a while it all worked quite well. And then the Internet happened. Although inetd handled small amounts of traffic fine, it could not create a new process for each incoming connection. Meanwhile, websites had acquired databases and other stateful systems between connections. The notion of a daemon shifted toward "service", which is a different beast altogether. The old init could only start a service, but after that it became almost useless. Part of the problem was combining services and configuration. Tasks such as mounting file systems are of the latter variety; they are usually performed once at boot time, after which they are forgotten. But this approach is not enough for automated service management, which requires constant attention. This is how service-oriented systems such as Upstart and systemd were born. Here Unix followed a path beaten by other operating systems. According to Rice, Windows NT had a strong service model from the beginning, and Mac OS still has it in the form of launchd. Other systems had to catch up. Apple released launchd in the Tiger version, where it replaced a whole series of event processing daemons, including init, cron, and inetd. Thus, systemd was an attempt to borrow from the good ideas implemented in launchd. When Lennart Pöttering started to solve this problem, he first looked at Upstart, an event-driven system. It still worked on scripts, but Pöttering came to the conclusion that he could do better. In his article Rethinking PID 1, he lists launchd as one of the samples to work with. He thought about improving boot speed and the need to tune the init system to hardware and software changes in a running system. When init was created, systems were static, but today's environment is much more dynamic than it was then. Classic Unix-like systems are divided into two main components: the kernel and the user space. But kernels have become more dynamic and changeable over time, adapting to the hardware on which they run. This led to the need for a new "service layer" between the kernel and the user space. This layer consists of components like udev and Network Manager, but systemd aims to provide a comprehensive service layer; that's why over time it has incorporated functionality from components like udev. The process was quite successful and was accepted by most (but not all) Linux distributions, although it was often accompanied by acrimony from the community. The same arguments are often used against the systemd daemon: that it violates the Unix philosophy, for instance. Rice suggests that this argument is based on the notion that systemd is a single monolithic binary. In fact, systemd is structured differently: it is many separate binaries maintained within a single project. As a "BSD man" (he was one of the main developers of FreeBSD), Rice finds merit in this unification of related concepts. Systemd is not at all bloated and monolithic, as some critics believe. They say that systemd has a lot of bugs. "It's software," of course it's going to have bugs, Rice said. The notion that, unlike any other system, systemd must be perfect raises the bar too high. At least systemd almost always has a reasonable failure mode, he said. One complaint often repeated in one form or another can be summed up as, "I can't stand Lennart Pöttering." Rice refused to defend Pöttering's communication style, but said one couldn't help but admire Pöttering's strength of will and determination. Not everyone can go through all that. Systemd does not seek portability to systems other than Linux, which leads to a separate class of complaints. If systemd becomes the standard, there is a risk that operating systems outside of Linux will become even more isolated. Many people want systemd to stick to standard Unix interfaces, but Rice has a simple answer for them: "Unix is dead. Unix was once an exercise in ultimate portability and had real success. But now we live "in a Linux world with few rounding errors" (which it pains the FreeBSD man to say), and it makes no sense to stick to classic Unix interfaces. The current situation is a "pathological monoculture" where Linux can dictate the terms. Systemd has gained a lot in such a situation. For example, control groups are a highly efficient and interesting process control mechanism, without them it would be much more difficult to solve these problems. They are much more powerful and detailed than the FreeBSD jailbreaks. Developers of systems like FreeBSD may see the intolerance of systemd as a threat. But this situation also gives them the freedom to work and find their own solutions to these problems. So, what conclusions can be drawn from the history of systemd? One conclusion: the message transport should not be underestimated. Systemd makes heavy use of D-Bus, which gives it a lot of flexibility. Rice is not a supporter of D-Bus, but he is a big supporter of buses for messaging between processes. He used to lobby for such a native bus on BSD systems, preferably built into the kernel and with better security than D-Bus. On top of this you can make a proper remote procedure call system where kernel components and userland work at the same level. In a properly designed system, the process will simply send an API request without worrying about where and how that request will be handled. Other lessons include the importance of maintaining a proper service lifecycle without having to install additional service management systems. It's important to set up service automation through APIs; and systemd provides much of this. Container support is also important: it is a useful way to encapsulate applications. submitted by cfx_4188 to u/cfx_4188 [link] [comments] |
2023.03.22 16:14 sobrique ADHD probably won't kill you; Depression very well might.
To my mind, ADHD is often less of a problem than the Depression it brings to your door.
ADHD is manageable and treatable. It's difficult, but you can live well with it, with the right support.
Depression is insidious and cruel. It kills you very slowly, by taking away all the things that make you want to continue existing. It might take years, but that road? It's self destructive, it's miserable, and at the end of it? Suicide starts to look so very reasonable and rational.
It turns the world grey and misty. It removes bright colours and mutes emotions. It makes choices impossible, because you simply cannot summon the emotional response to decide, because you don't care. It makes you reckless. It makes you your own 'evil twin' - certain that the world would be a better place without you in it. And capable of taking steps to do precisely that. To remove yourself, and isolate yourself from people you can. And to push away the people you can't. To become a worse person, because you truly believe that it's "better this way".
And after you have followed that road for long enough? You're just tired. You're exhausted. You don't care and you just want everything to stop. Ironically perhaps, this may even delay you taking the 'final step', because you can't even be bothered to do that either. This is a known danger of treating serious depression - because someone that close to the line, increasing their executive function and their motivation can be catastrophic.
ADHD sows the seeds of depression. ADHD means you'll fail more, and you'll struggle more. It means you'll be mistreated by people who don't understand your needs. Often inadvertently, but occasionally with cruelty and malice. And maybe you'll have difficult understanding your own needs. Why your brain doesn't let you do things that look 'simple'.
So it's very easy to hit an ADHD induced 'failure' in your life, and be unable to forgive yourself for it, because you don't understand.
And over time? Those failures will eat away at you. Maybe they'll be just little things, that other people barely noticed. Sometimes they'll be bigger things, where you know you hurt someone, but you still can't understand how or why or what you did wrong. Those all add up to pieces of psychological trauma, that will stick in you like splinters, and fester until you remove them.
But when you don't have time to stop and heal, to 'extract' the splinters, they'll just stay there. Heal over, and become even harder to deal with, but still be there hurting you over and over.
And that's where ADHD comes in again - your life is hard. You're struggling. You're fighting an invisible war. You don't have time to stop and heal, and your executive function isn't working at full strength even when you do.
So slowly, gradually, and insidiously, depression takes hold. It makes your ADHD harder to cope with - your executive function is already degraded, and depression hits that too. And in turn, ADHD? Well, you don't have the executive function to tackle the depression either.
It might take a very long time. It took me 20 years of gradually getting more and more depressed, as I accumulated more and more 'splinters' of failure, that wouldn't heal. I was steadily becoming my own 'evil twin'. I was a horrible person. Truly. I wish with all my heart I could say I 'didn't mean it'... but I did. I really did. My hollow justification of 'it would be better this way' as my rationale for hurting and pushing away the most amazing people in my life? Well, it's hollow. But I believed it.
So what of this? Why am saying this?
First of all - I want you all to know: I get it. I see you. I know how bad it can be.
I know why you don't feel like you can reach out. Why you're hiding it from everyone around you. I know exactly where this road goes too.
I also want you to know that the very first step of 'fixing' this, is the only one that's actually hard. Breaking down that wall of pride, self doubt and self worth, and admitting that you need help to someone who can do that for you... and accepting that you deserve that help too.
After that first step? The rest is gentle and slow. People experienced at treating depression are good at what they do. They will understand you and see you in a way your friends and family cannot.
So if you recognise this in yourself - you don't even have to say anything right now. I just want you to know that I believe in you. I am just some guy on the internet. I have no reason to lie to you, or pretend I want you around.
Because what I believe is that your struggles so far? They're all that you need to be a worthy person. You are fighting an invisible war. Other people don't know or understand. But I do. I get it. Your will to go on makes you magnificent. You've fought every day, and kept going into the darkness, with no end in sight. And you're tired. I get that too.
But the world truly would be a lesser place if you did succeed in removing yourself from it. There's a shortage of beautiful people, and one fewer would be a shame.
And what I'd like you to do - if all this resonates - is to take that small, but oh so hard first step. Reach out to someone who can help you, and make them understand that you need it.
Do it for me, if you can't do it for you. Some guy you will never meet, who will never judge you, but that believes you are a beautiful worthy person, who makes the world better by being there. A person who believes that you deserve to be happy, and that you can be happy.
ADHD won't go away, it's part of what makes you who you are. It's part of what makes you beautiful. But without the depression dragging you down, it's absolutely possible to live well with ADHD.

2023.03.22 16:05 AutoModerator [Get] Dan Koe – Digital Economics Masters Degree Full Course Download
| Get the course here: https://www.genkicourses.com/product/dan-koe-digital-economics-masters-degree/ Dan Koe – Digital Economics Masters Degree https://preview.redd.it/4w9tt8nthyoa1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=aaacbd9fdb837f07a27a37c49cd406115367f9e4 What You Get Phase 0) Digital Economics 101 The Digital Economics 101 module will open 1 week prior to the cohort start date.
Phase 1) Creating A Meaningful Niche Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with what will sell. You already have the answer.
That they are congruent with and trust. It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable.
In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple promotions. You will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way).
Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan. And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days. That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work. submitted by AutoModerator to GenkiCourses_2023 [link] [comments] |
