2023.06.06 06:58 Fluffy-Letter-2009 Eibach Stage 1 Installed. If youâre on the fence, this is your sign to pull the trigger on this kit.
| This kit came highly recommended from other 4runner owners and loving it so far. For $800 on the kit, itâs worth every penny so far. 2.75â Front 1â Rear and personally really liking the way it sits. No aftermarket UCAs needed as the shop was able to get it to Spec. Ride quality is much better: - no more nose dive
- truck feels much more planted
- very comfortable so far

2023.06.06 05:03 killtheantifa Help with ls cam swapped 2006 Silverado 1500 4.8l
Hello I please need to understand I cam swapped my 4.8 with a. Baby cam that I bought 2 years ago for my other engine andended up throwing it in my current truck cam successfully was instead 6 pack and about 8 hours later lol I donât have cam card on me but it was like a 212/214 lsa112 summit cam and it actually ran without a tune hence baby cam but anyways I asked my friend to tune it with hptuners he took the misfire code off that I got after installing assuming this is normal and he gave me a base to to help it chop and drive better nothing for power told me to get a air fuel ratio to tune for power etcâŚ. To the actual question when I am in park it idles and chops but will increase rpmâs slightly stopping the chip not by much by a little still will have tiny chop but none the less not fluent then when Iâm driving and come to stop light it will idle high like 950-1000 rpm then randomly drop to a chop for like 8 seconds then come right back up I text him asked him and he said his cammed ls same truck does the same thing I just wanna know is this a bad tuner or just something inevitable like the ecu just fighting with the cam please help I need to know if I need to find a new tuner for when I get the air fuel ratio gauge thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2023.06.06 04:55 jwick6728 [USA-CA] [H] Custom watercooled PC, Samsung Odyssey G8, BNOB 980 Pro 2tb, Nintendo Switch OLED [W] PayPal G&S, Local Cash
REPOST: REDUCED PRICES
PC Timestamp Samsung Odyssey G8 timestamp BNOP 980 Pro timestamp Nintendo Switch timestamp Hello all, looking at selling or trading my custom loop pc, nothing wrong with it, I'm just looking at buying a new truck soon so the extra cash would be nice. Local is 91923, Imperial Beach, CA
Cpu has the ThermalRight CPU contact frame, all EKWB water blocks on the CPU, GPU, and RAM, using Quantum Torque fittings (10/13), not sure of the manufacturer (possible alphacool) of the radiator but it is 480mmx45mm, pump is a SwiftTech MCP35X pump with a large heatsink and Thermal Grizzly thermal pads and mounted to a T30 fan using an EK pump mount. EKWB FLT360 Flat Res mounted using the EKWB angle kit, with EK Cryofuel blood red as coolant. Has 5 Phanteks T30 120mm fans as intake (4 on front radiator, 1 on bottom with pump mounted) and 3 Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 as exhaust. GPU is vertically mounted using the Phanteks Gen 4 90 degree riser. PSU cables are all Cablemod custom sleeved cables. I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme Paste on CPU and GPU die and Thermal Grizzly Minus Pads 8 on RAM and GPU. Never had a custom OC on the CPU, just PBO with small limits and negative CO offset. GPU had a basic OC of 2800MHz max on the core, 1750MHz on the memory and power limit to +15% and RAM was only ran at EXPO speeds and timings. Comes with (1) 1tb 970 Evo Plus (42.8tb written), (1) 2tb 970 Evo Plus (6.1tb written), and (1) 980 2tb Pro (1.9tb written). There is a small scratch on the OLED screen that isn't really visible but its there, happened when installing the CPU waterblock and I accidentally hit the screen. Other than the that and the usual dust, there isn't any other damage in or on the pc. The PC build itself is fairly new, the case, 1tb SSD, PSU, radiator, and waterpump are all about a year old now. Will come with the case accessory kit and PSU cables
PC Specs are
CPU: Ryzen 9 7950x cooled by EKWB Velocity2
GPU: Radeon 7900 XTX Red Devil Limited Edition Number 2397/3000 cooled by EKWB Quantum Vector2
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 32gb DDR5 6000 CL30
Motherboard: Asus ROG X670E Extreme
Case: Phanteks Enthoo 719
PSU: Phanteks Revolt X 1200w
All together, I spent about $5.5K, I'm asking $4K or best offer. I would like to keep this local as it is a huge pc case and very heavy. SSDs will obviously be wiped before selling. It is still my daily gaming device so it will still see use until selling. Designed the watercooling loop to make maintenence super simple, simply attach a tube to the drain port and open the valve and fill port, will drain almost all the fluid except for the radiator.
WAS 4.5K, ASKING 4K Samsung Odyssey G8: this is the 4k 240hz version, this monitor does not have scanlines issue, operates beautifully at 4k 240hz, no dead pixels ,comes with original stand, selling to downsize. Was purchased in December on a deal, paid $1.2k, asking $900 or best offer. Would like to keep this local as well.
Samsung 980 Pro 2tb: got this and one other SSD when prices took the dive, bought 2 to add into the last 2 remaining slots on the motherboard of my current system but realized before i installed it that the last slot would cause my gpu to run at 8x instead of 16x so i never did install it. Box is open but the SSD was never installed. Paid $163 after taxes, asking $130 local or $140 shipped;
WAS 140, ASKING 130 Nintendo Switch OLED: Purchased this about 3 months ago for a deployment, took it but didnt use it much as i didnt have the time i thought i would have had, storage will be wiped before selling. Comes with the original box, dock, joycons, 512 gb SD card, tempered glass screen protector, and white carry case. Everything came out to about $450, asking $375 local, $400 shipped.
WAS 400, ASKING 375 All prices are based depending on recently sold items, but feel free to throw me an offer

2023.06.06 03:32 ElderberryEastern239 Ls1 tuning questions
I have a 2001 ls1 in an rx7 with a btr stage 4 cam and prc ported and polished heads that runs off a tuned stock computer. My question is; it has 2 stock narrow band o2 sensors but has a gauge for a wide band wired up, does that mean I need to install and wire a wide band? For more info the car barely idles and will almost always stall when coming down from rpm. If I install a wide band will it have to be retuned or is it possible it was tuned for a wide band and thatâs why it wonât idle? And finally can I tune it myself and what would I need to do so?

2023.06.06 02:24 Devigiorno 2.8L V6 - American Engineering with German Manufacturing
The first V6 offered in our beloved Rangers is none other than the forgotten Cologne 2.8 V6. The idea for a 60Âş V6 originated from the 60Âş V4 in Europe. Introduced in 1974, it produced 115 horsepower and 150 torque - not much compared to the V6 engines of today. It only lived for two years in the Ranger (83-85), but was offered in a wide range of vehicles. There were even turbocharged models produced! Sadly it did not break the 200 horsepower mark stock (to my knowledge) and there was some controversy about the numbers that Ford was reporting. I am unable to find which years/model 2.8 engines will interchange, however I imagine the one offered in the Bronco II will. As for performance, not a ton of aftermarket stuff is still produced. At one point fuel injection and turbo kits were available.
I was able to scare up some engine specs on The Ranger Station:

2023.06.06 00:11 paxxoid Laptop screen dark
I have an older Laptop, an overpowered rebranded (actually brand escapes me, was a real pita chasing down the original manufacturer)walmart brand that I bought refurbished a number of years ago. The specs are still good enough to light game on so I want to keep it around. The laptop screen is dark, dark where I cam barely see the boot up image and windows icons. It works fine when plugged into a monitor.
I've tried the following:
- Adjust windows settings (did not think it was software issue due to boot image dark but checking off boxes)
- Ram reset
- Ram replace with new stick
- Bios battery remove and reinsert (laptop battery disconnected)
- LCD screen replacement
- LCD screen wire replacement
Not sure what else it could be as I think I exhausted everything and so here I am. Any help is much appreciated!

2023.06.05 23:06 Magykstorm19 My First Final Fantasy Game Ever Part 18, The Finale
I am playing my first Final Fantasy game ever which is the original Final Fantasy VII from 1997. Here is the previous part for those who care:
https://www.reddit.com/FinalFantasy/comments/140vbvm/my_first_final_fantasy_game_ever_part_17/
Previously I finished the Raid on Midgard and while my next goal was to go to the Northern Crater, there were some other things I wanted to do.
For gameplay, I did have to look at some guides but I did get the Limit Break Manual for Tifa and I got Cid's best weapon the Venus Gospel. As for the Red Weapon, I tried to beat it and I attempted different strategies like using Barrett with my most expensive Materia, killing off 2 of my team members for them to be revived by Phoenix to prevent the whirlwind attack, and even tried Fire Armlet's to be immune to Red Weapon's fire attacks. None of the strategies worked and I died multiple times against it. Because this boss is optional and I was no longer having fun, I gave up and went to the actual final dungeon. Pretty sure that in order to beat Red Weapon, I would have to be level 99 or level 90+ to pull it off. My party was in the 60s and 70s so I think it was impossible for me unless I grinded. Also given that I did not want to waste hours on RNG or Chocobo racing, I did not get the chance to get the Knights of the Round Summon which while it sucks, it is nothing to lose my sleep over. There are some games for me that I do not need 100% completion for.
As for Northern Crater being the final dungeon, I really liked it from how challenging it was and how some of the strongest Materia in the game like the All attack materia which is a purple materia that treats all of your attacks as if it was affected by All Support. I slapped that bad boy onto Vincent who was my designated spellcaster and not all spells I gave him (lightning, ice, fire, quake, and bio, comet, and ultima) all became team devastators. There was also the Shield Materia which sounded powerful but I did not level it up in time to make use of it. I also liked the design of this dungeon as well from how it starts out with rocks but once you do inside it the mountain it becomes very weird. There is a biome inside the mountain and the enemies can be really tough. By far the toughest enemy is this knife monster with a star hovering over it. It had this attack called "Everyone's Grudge" which devasted my team. Vincent was the only person who could tank that attack multiple times so he carried me whenever that enemy showed up. Then once we see the Lifestream Lake, I like how we see the final stretch has some really tough enemies. Soon after we get a boss fight against the last Jenova. The Jenova Ballhead. This boss fight was fine, nothing too challenging but it was the last time we get to fight Jenova. A fitting end for a monstrosity. But after that we get the big bad, the main man Sephiroth. I like how the first phase of Sephiroth is some Bizzaro monster which requires you to split your team to attack both sides. So while I had my main trio (Cloud, Tifa, and Vincent) on one side with all my best and cracked materia while my second team (Barrett, Cid, and Yuffie) attacked the left side. My main team had simple gameplan because I intentionally made them to have the best materia but I liked how I had to think of a new plan for the second team. I went to something simple which was to put Barrett on steroids with Yuffie supporting him. Barrett's weapon does more damage the more AP the materia has so I slapped on the most expensive materia onto him to make his attacks do 8k+ damage. Then for Cid, because his weapon is dependent on how full his MP meter is, I slapped on my remaining materia that increases his survivability from HP, luck, and dexterity. While the second team's materia line-up may have been messy, it worked. But as fun as this boss was with you having to work with 2 teams and how the second team has to be thought of on the spot, this is not the final boss.
The final boss for this game is Safer-Sephiroth. I thought this boss fight was amazing. I finally heard, I heard One-Winged Angel and it took me by surprise. This game does not have any voice acting, the only sound from this game is the music and game mechanic sounds. And the music is instrumental. But Safer-Sephiroth's One-Winged Angel literally has lyrics which the game actually sung. Sephiroth is such a Giga Chad that he was able to make his lyrics sung in a game with no voice acting. I also liked how this boss had some strategy against us which was setting up wall at the beginning of the fight. This fight made me pull out all my tricks from setting up my own reflectors, haste, and Limit Breaks. I also found it very exciting to use my summons against Sephiroth. Bahamut ZERO vs Safer-Sephiroth, who do think would win? While there wasn't any special gimmick with this boss fight like there was with Bizzaro looking Sephiroth, it didn't need to. This boss fight against Sephiroth is easily one of my favorite boss fights of all time rivaling the likes of Vergil from Devil May Cry 3 and 5, Ridley from Metroid Prime, Ganondorf from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Metal Gear Bosses. The most hilarious part of this fight however was Safer-Sephiroth's Supernova attack which destroyed the entire solar system (including Pluto, RIP Pluto) and how the attack showed how each planet got destroyed individually. I did not time the attack, but it felt like it lasted for a couple minutes. It really adds to the grand nature of this boss fight.
But after the boss fight, who can forget the aftermath. It is the iconic showdown between Cloud and Sephiroth. The anticipation of waiting for the Limit Gauge to fill up and how the fight flashes between the characters. The hype was there and the Omnislash was very, very satisfying. You have finally defeated the man who destroyed your home, gave you your mental trauma, and killed one of your closest friends. It had a fantastic finish.
Overall, I thought the Northern Crater was a fantastic final dungeon and the boss fight against Sephiroth really delivered.
Now for the story. The story to the Crater was not much so let's instead talk about the end of the dungeon. I liked the atmosphere that Sephiroth gives with his presence. This man isn't doing anything but he is still giving out shockwaves whenever he feels like it. After the boss fight, the aftermath was amazing. After Cloud defeats Sephiroth inside his mind, we see a shining hand in the darkness reaching out for Cloud which we think it is Aerith. But it is in fact Tifa trying to save Cloud because he is about to fall into the Lifestream. They both nearly fall together again like in Mideel but this time Cloud was able to reach the ledge and carry both himself and Tifa to safety. It was really cute. After that, the Crater was about to collapse in on itself and the gang don't really have a way to escape until the Highwind comes in clutch to save them. It was at that moment I realized that the Northern Cave stage in Smash Bros. is one huge reference to the ending of this game. For AVALANCHE's escape from the Cave, my only critique is that Yuffie and Vincent are not in the cutscene so we do not get to see there reactions. I do not why cause they are party members for I believe the majority of the game and are relevant. Yuffie leads us to Wutai and it is through Vincent we learn more about Sephiroth's origins.
After AVALANCHE gets saved by the Highwind we switch on over to Midgard to where we see how Holy must deal with the threat of Meteor. We see how initially Meteor is destroying Midgard but eventually Holy comes in to push it back, but at first it is unable to actually put a stop to Meteor but things change the moment the Lifestream comes in to help Holy. Seeing how the Lifestream comes in really makes you go "oh ya it is all coming together" as the planet we have been trying to defend is now answering our call. I really liked how Aerith even in her death is still defending the planet as it seems she was the reason why the Lifestream came into help Holy. It truly is a shame that the Cetra have gone extinct because if a threat of this size comes again, Holy likely won't be there to stop it. After Holy stops Meteor, we get to the epilogue which takes place after 500 years. We see Red XIII with his two cubs (I knew that Red XIII had game) arriving to Midgard and we see the flora grow all over the town. While it is unclear the game makes it unclear if the human survived Holy's Judgement, given the existence of the Final Fantasy VII Movie, I assume that they did. But now to me it is bittersweet. Because if 500 years later Midgard has become effectively a forest, human probably no longer live there which would include the people who did nothing wrong. I like to think that it is a case of people leaving Midgard and living elsewhere but I do not know for sure. After that we get credits and a shot of the camera moving in outer space which felt like it was going on forever and because I could not exit this screen I turned off the system.
And that is the conclusion of Final Fantasy VII. This game is fantastic and most definitely lived up to the hype.
I also like the mysteries the game still set-up that other games can build upon. What happened to Professor Gast? How did Hojo rizz up Lucrecia when Vincent was right there and a better partner than Hojo? What is the aftermath of Shinra's downfall? Does Wutai regain its glory? I even like how the backstory in this game could lead to others. What about a Final Fantasy game that has the gameplay of Final Fantasy XVI but the story is of the war between Shinra and Wutai and the main character is Sephiroth? So we can play as Sephiroth as he hack and slashes away against the Wutai soldier around him. Given how much exposure Sephiroth has received after this game, I do not think the allure from the original game has to carry over. What if there was a game focusing on Zack Fair and his relationship to Aerith and the lead up to the Nibelheim Incident? And lastly, what if there was a Final Fantasy style Mario Kart racing game that featured Chocobos? There are lots of possibilities.
My top 4 favorite characters are:
- Sephiroth
- Cloud Strife
- Tifa Lockhart
- Vincent Valentine
I would explain why I like these characters but I do not want to type an essay which would make this post longer than it already is.
As for my favorite moments:
- Almost any scene with Sephiroth. He literally steals the show wherever he is. Massacring the Shinra building and cargo ship or by exposing Cloud as a fraud. Whenever he showed up, shit was about to get real. My only criticism is that he doesn't have his one wing outside of Safer-Sephiroth. It really shows how good he is when my biggest complaint was that he could have been cooler than he already was.
- Cloud's true backstory. It made me really appreciate Cloud as a character and it showed the reality between the relationship between Tifa and Cloud. It is after this moment that both Cloud and Tifa have become closer than before.
- Escaping Shinra Headquarters. I really like this moment because it showed you a true dose of what this game has to offer and some character development. Cloud choosing to stay behind to stall Rufus from capturing AVALANCHE and the motorcycle chase that ensues where you have to defend the truck really set you up for what the game has in store for you.
Favorite Summons:
- Bahamut ZERO
- Bahamut
- Odin
After 61 hours, I have completed my first Final Fantasy game. This game is absolutely amazing from its story, the characters, the setting, presentation, the gameplay, and much more. This is the full package. Even with my criticisms, they are mostly quality of life changes or balancing that do not impact how I perceive this game. This is nothing short of 10/10.
Given that I have completed the game, you can go full spoilers for the things that happen.
I am now taking a break from Final Fantasy and probably look into other games. Right now I am eying on either the first Resident Evil game or Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past as I have never played a 2D Zelda game before even though I have played all the 3D games besides Tears of the Kingdom. But when I return, I am looking at playing Final Fantasy 6.

2023.06.05 22:51 pippinsplugins Hit a deer today, guess the repair costs / timeframe?
| Considering the deer population around me, the near inevitable happened. I hit a deer today on my way home in my R1T. It jumped out of the woods and there was almost no chance at all to avoid the collision. I have had the R1T since December, 2022, and have driven 9,668 miles since then. Good news 1): the Incident cam worked perfectly and got the impact on video. Good news 2): the R1T is a tank and took hardly any damage at all (at least on the surface). The only visible damage is a crack in the grill and surrounding plastic. Won't know more until it gets looked at by the SC or body shop. Considering I hit the deer at 45-50 MPH, I'm quite impressed. The last time I hit a deer at that speed, it obliterated the front end of my wife's Mazda CX5. Bad news: the deer had a really bad day . . . it was still alive after I hit it but had three broken legs and who knows what else internal damage, so I felt compelled to put it out of its misery. I'm not a hunter and have only once before taken a creature's life intentionally (similar situation a few years ago). Truthfully, I'm much more emotionally bothered by taking the deer's life than my truck's crack. I am worried the repair costs will be significant after seeing/hearing some of the cost reports, and I will come back and give an update after the repairs are estimated and completed. Anyone want to throw out guesses to make a game of it? https://preview.redd.it/7xrvpcmph94b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72b7ad2c7674d6b31c691b9b2781e72a9bec0e59 Incident footage for those that so desire (warning graphic): https://www.dropbox.com/s/o4asuvrhd5bxyvx/06_05_23_142820_video_frontCenter.mp4?dl=0 submitted by pippinsplugins to Rivian [link] [comments] |
2023.06.05 22:47 TransportationFew295 WATCH OUT FOR UNSAFE ISUZU TRUCKS [HUMBERVIEW TRUCKS]
| I purchased a used Isuzu NRR privately. It was brought to Humberview Trucks for a safety and commercial vehicle inspection. Upon arriving to pick the truck up it was running in the parking lot, when I got into the truck, I noticed there were 3 red lights on the dash (Battery, Parking brake (the brake was not on) and Brake failure. I brought it to their attention. I was told this was not required to pass a safety inspection, it was probably a corroded wire. I did not agree especially with a brake fault light on. They told me there was nothing they would do, it passed, the truck is old what should I expect and it wasnât their problem. (I point out: the vehicle was running when I picked it up, so they knew there was a serious safety issue) I had no choice but to take the truck. Right away the truck was acting up the red lights would flash on and off this becoming more and more frequent and the regen system was constantly turning on, then the engine light came on. After approximately 300kms of driving the vehicle lost the tach, speedometer and transmission shifting almost causing a major accident on the hwy at 100kph. I then attempted to limp back to the OEM dealer however the truck lost all power (no lights, power steering, brakes, windshield wipersâŚ) causing me to again almost get into a major accident. After spending over 4 hours in freezing rain (Time to review the National Safety Code Standard 11) waiting for a tow truck with no hazard lights or heat and having vehicles constantly honking and almost smash into the back of the truck. Finally I had the truck towed back to the dealer. The next morning, I provide a copy of the National Safety Code Standard 11 highlighting some of my concerns. When I picked the truck up 2 days later (Having to get a hotel for 2 nights and miss an additional 2 days of work) they said the seller had paid to change the alternator, it was the only problem it had nothing to do with safety and not their fault in anyway, again reiterating they are the OEM they know what is safe and it doesnât matter what specs the MTO (Ministry of Transportation, Ontario) has, the vehicle had been re inspected and is completely safe. This made me uneasy as I felt there are further problems that needed to be at least looked at or investigated. Non of my concerns at any point from the first visit were taken seriously. Upon finally returning home I contacted the MTO and they were also concerned of the Dealerships actions or lack their of and disregard for safety. They had me bring the truck in and did an inspection I was told the truck was found unsafe. This has caused me to not be able to run my business of renting out waste bins and moving aggregate for over 4 weeks and an extreme amount of undue stress and financial issues. I am worried with the we know better approach Humberview Trucks takes, there are other vehicles being put on the road carelessly and unsafe. When asked they could not provide me with what the OEM specifications are on safety requirements. That to me is a problem GM needs address as this was from the Service Manager (Sabastiaan Cadot). Are GM mechanics no longer trained and certified? How can a vehicle ever be safe if the service manager doesnât even know the specifications? The safety certificate was also done by him as itâs under his name, was he the actual mechanic that worked on the truck? That is just mind boggling. I would not have had any problem fixing any safety issues before picking up the vehicle however they chose not to tell me, didnât look or POSSIBLY didnât care if the truck had any. Thatâs extremely distressing, how often is this happening? The public needs to know itâs possible there are other unsafe Isuzu trucks driving around the city and Hwys throughout Ontario and especially in the Toronto area. I am truly disheartened that an OEM GM Dealer feels the safety of others is not important. submitted by TransportationFew295 to ontario [link] [comments] |

2023.06.05 22:19 MissionSuccess Things I've learned after 1yr in as a FTHB and DIYer
Buying a home in this market is stressful as all hell, and I feel for you all. Prices and availability may have you considering homes with critical flaws or in conditions you never thought you'd be willing to accept. I want to share our experience from a doozy of an inspection to the approaches we took to cut costs and make a fixer upper doable for us.
A heads up, this post is DIY heavy. I realize that's not for everyone. This is for those who are in that mindset, or are on the fence about DIY or learning how to research and manage trades quotes. My wife and I purchased our first home in Denver at the height of the market in June 2022. Interest rates were much better than, but the prices were still very high.
We found an almost unmolested/untouched 1969 3br 3ba two-story time capsule with a full height unfinished basement in a nice part of town. It had a lot of deferred maintenance. Let's start with the inspection, which we absolutely refused to waive. DO NOT WAIVE THE INSPECTION. Knowledge gained via inspection later saved us $30k at the negotiating table.
Inspection Report - Major Items:
- Significant street facing foundation wall crack. Two structural engineer assessments point to soil expansion pushing the wall in, slipping house on mud sill on that wall only. We're told it's due to poor front yard grading in the first 10-15ft causing water to pool.
- Flat roof has seams + cracks and is due to be replaced.
- 18 somewhat leaky, poor-condition original aluminum single-pane windows.
- Potentially dangerous electrical panel, using known bad manufacturer from the 60s
- Failing valves for old water softening system; complex old piping to split house between two systems.
- 27 y/o AC condenser unit.
That was a lot barrel to stare down, but we had already done a lot of research in ways of mitigating, repairing, and spreading out these or similar issues to reduce risk and up front cost across our 6 months of shopping and putting in offers. We gave ourselves two weeks in our offer to go/no-go, to give us time to do the legwork needed to move forward, back out, or negotiate.
So we put in our offer, and quickly learn we're the only non-flippers, non-corporate buyers. The previous owners are sentimental, and so that wins us the house. After almost 20 offers, we finally have our house. The rush subsides quickly with a ton of work ahead of us.
Quotes and Fixes
Foundation fix
3 quotes, 2 structural assessments for $300 ea, 3 different approaches. We could anchor and epoxy for $12k or $15k (two companies), demo and repour for some astronomical number like $50K+ (contractor), or based on a tip I found...reinforce, epoxy, and regrade for $4.5k if we DIYed the reinforcement via a wall brace kit. After talking with the engineer at Gorilla Wall Braces, and our structural engineer, our condition was a good fit for the system and we went that direction.
Final cost was $2.6K for the kit + spec steel beams + DIY install, and what we were told might be a grade issue turned out to be a sprinkler head leak next to the foundation causing countless gallons of water to pour down it each grass watering. Once that was fixed, the area dried right up. We had it assessed and were given the clear. We later had it regraded for $700 as part of some landscape work for peace of mind.
Scary wide range, but fixed a major flaw in the report for a fraction of the price.
Old AC Unit
Stopped working within the first month of ownership during the peak of summer, in 90 deg temps. 3 quotes, Home Depot, some local HVAC company, and a guy in a truck on Thumbtack. $15k for the first for a whole new central system, $36k from the local outfit for a whole house ductless setup, and the final guy was $300 to replace the damaged capacitor and get us back up and running.
You gotta realize part of the stress here is that each outfit will sell you hard that you "absolutely want their option and no other will do, because of XYZ" and make you feel like an idiot for considering anything else. They'll use hard sell tactics to get you to sign on that line today. It can be tempting to pull the trigger for a now-fix, and they'll give you all sorts of bullshit offers and reasons to do so, but it'll eat your reno budget or trap you in finance payments for years. For every issue we had, it took really digging to find other options, but they almost always presented themselves.
Final cost was $300. Guy said it'd probably be fine for another 5 years, and had no leaks. AC worked great for the whole summer, and started up fine this year. It's less efficient, but does the job for now. Later, I'll probably install a Mr. Cool DIY ductless setup for $5-6k when we're ready to modernize, or if/when ours blows.
Leaking Roof
The flat roof started leaking almost immediately when the next couple huge rainstorms hit. At first it was a little, then a lot. That lit a fire on this one. Two quotes. $6k for a local company to patch all potential areas and guarantee the leak would be fixed, or $20k+ to scrape and reroof with TPO.
Final cost was $1.6k We ended up DIYing a Henry's silicone roof coating product for $1.6k that not only sealed it extremely well, but cut our AC bill in half due to the reflective surface. Our roof does have 3 layers on it, so this might just buy us time, but after chatting with a few folks in the field, it might get us 10+ years.
Sprinkler Valve Leaks, Line Cracks
Our first water bill revealed that we had a massive sprinkler leak, that was causing water to pool against the foundation (causing the soil expansion/foundation cracking). It was pooling under the decorative stone, so wasn't especially obvious at first. I didn't even bother quoting this one. With all the easy press-to-fit fittings at the box store, all it takes is a shovel, some fittings, and 3/4" line pipe to do most of your line repairs. $400 later everything was fixed across the yard with all new valves.
Sketchy old plumbing
The previous owners had installed a water softening system in the 80s that piped half the house on soft water, and half not. It was a mess, and every valve was questionable, including the water main. This was more peace of mind, but I opened a permit, bought the $500 PEX-A expansion gun, and replumbed the whole house with PEX to code over the summer while we had walls exposed. Total cost including the tool was less than $2k.
Leaky Windows
Call it ambition or stupidity, after a $30k quote for shitty Champion PVC double-pane double-hung windows, I hunted down a Chinese vendor on Alibaba to build us custom replacement triple-pane low-e nuts-o-quality premium casement + tilt-n-turn aluminum windows for $13k shipped to our door. They are the Bently of windows, in all but brand name. They arrived in 3-months and I was able to DIY all the 1st story windows in before fall hit. What a massive difference in quality of life they made. I might have to hire out a couple of the big 2nd story ones this summer, but even so I'll be so much better off.
Aluminum Wiring + Electrical
This one hurt, but ended up being the the single biggest improvement to the house. We learned that not only was our panel a potential fire hazard, and that the house was on old 150A service, but that most of our wiring was sketchy aluminum Vietnam era stuff that really should be mitigated or replaced. 3 quotes, all within $1k of each other. We bit the bullet. Top tier local company rewired the whole house, plus 200A panel, plus EV charger, couple sub panels, basement lighting, garage shop lighting, whole house LED lighting + switches + outlets, heated bathroom fans, really the works for $27K. Took them 4 months. Not a single old electrical cable, outlet, or switch remains. By the time it was done they told me they should have charged twice that. Feels like a new house.
Wrapping this up. These could have easily drained our reno budget and more had we gone with the first quote, or done everything by a pro company instead of DIY, or a guy in a truck / Thumbtack approach. It takes a lot more legwork, research, physical work, and usually involves taking on more risk, but I wanted to share that sometimes scary inspections aren't always costly ones. Learn what your issue is and the approaches people take to solve it, ranging from the cheap temp fix, to the best permanent one and really weigh your options. Do your homework before AND after getting quotes; be prepared to ask the right questions and be schooled to spot bullshit sales tactics and upselling, and resist and/or evaluate scope creep.
I should have added that pulling a bunch of quotes during that negotiation window gave us the leverage to negotiate the cost of our home down $30k. So while we still had to dish out for our fixes/upgrades up front, that effort was well worth it.
I also strongly advocate for FTHBs to be willing to pick up some DIY skills. I had few of these skills before owning a home. I was somewhat decent at general handyman work and picked up some trades skills from volunteering at Habitat for Humanity. With trades costs skyrocketing, the job market flimsy, and general financial uncertainty, Millennials and GenZ can't afford to throw money at the problem like many of our parents often did. Digging into Youtube and Thumbtack can stretch your budget far beyond where you'd get otherwise, and can make home ownership tenable for those who otherwise might be stretching to maintain a house.
For those considering DIY, or are hesitant, I empathize that it can be scary or daunting to take on some of this stuff at first. Just start small and work your way up. Watch videos, read stuff, double check your work. Start with projects that have lower risk to your home or yourself, where you're just risking the price of a pro to redo it right, then move up as you build confidence. Hardware stores and Youtube tuts make this stuff extremely approachable.

2023.06.05 21:48 PiMan3141592653 Extended warranty?
Have any of you bought a used F150 and also added the 3rd party extended warranty from the dealership?
I have never purchased them in previous vehicles, but I ended up purchasing the best/top one they offered, and it's already paid for itself in less than a year.
I decided to buy it because of everything I had read about the 3.5L EB engines having the Cam Phaser issues, and figured the cost of the warranty was about the same as fixing the Cam Phasers, if it ever happened. I bought a 2018 Platinum w/ 107K miles in Sept 2022. With all the cameras, sensors, and gadgets in the truck, I figured I may come out ahead if a few of them kicked the bucket.
I paid $3,770 for a Valuemax extended warranty that covered pretty much everything for 6yrs/125,000 mi. I've paid $200 in deductibles ($100 per visit) and the warranty has covered:
- Rear diff pinion seal ($650)
- Oil pan ($1,200)
- Front diff pinion bearing ($3,200)
Those numbers are what I was quoted by the dealership, not necessarily what the warranty paid out. Either way, I paid $3,770 and so far it's covered over $5,000 worth of repairs... and I'm not even a year into it w/ well over 100,000mi left to go.
I know most people probably won't have these issues, but the warranty saved my butt this time. None of the issues were critical when I brought the truck in, just tiny leaks here and there. All of the issues so far have been mechanical issues dealing with the drivetrain. No engine, transmission, or electrical problems.

2023.06.05 20:29 JNJury978 Can I put tire on spare wheel?
2013 Toyota Tundra 5.7L Platinum 4x4
Long story short, I have to replace all four tires (already bought them, just waiting for delivery/install)⌠2 of the tires wore prematurely on the inside (alignment) and 1 tire has non-repairable hole in sidewall. I currently have
this tire on the spare wheel.
These are my current 4 tires.
A few questions:
- Why does it seem like the 4 current tires don't have a manufacture date?
- The spare tire is in dire need of replacement (seems like it was manufactured in 2013). Can I replace the spare tire with the one remaining good tire (of the four current ones)? The specs are slightly different. Current tires are 275/55R20, while spare is 255/70/R18.
- Why would the spare have different specs? Is this normal or did the guy that owned it before me mess something up?
- Would this spare wheel/tire even work on my truck? I just want to make sure I donât find out it doesnât when I need it most.
As always, I appreciate the advice provided on this sub! TIA!
EDIT: I am not looking to replace the punctured tire with the spare tire (I already ordered four new tires that I am waiting for delivery/install). I am wondering if I can use the one (out of the four currently in use) remaining âgoodâ tire and put it on the spare wheel. And also wondering why the spare wheel/tire mismatches the other four wheels/tires currently in use, and if Iâm even able to use the spare in case of a flat in the future.

Better and more beautiful than any other. And thus always alone. This is how a fool is born. But one day, all his fragile mind had ever known was tossed into a forgotten abyss. Whether that has turned out for better or worse is anyone's guess. But when the upside down smile of a certain figure now peers into his eyes, the purity within almost seems to lighten up the skies.
