Do insurance company incorporate placement of damage to determine fault?

2023.06.03 03:48 CatDecoy Do insurance company incorporate placement of damage to determine fault?

I got into a car accident where I was in the far right lane of a three lane interstate and the other party was in the far left lane. He crossed all lanes of traffic in one go and hit me.
I recently heard back from the other parties insurance that he is not at fault. In their letter they state that they do not have enough evidence so they are siding with their client and will not be liable for any damages.
He states that I was not in the lane at the time he made the lane change and had just entered but I had been in that lane for a least a mile, I believe that he thinks this is true but that’s because he made two lane changes without stopping to check.
In my opinion the location of the damages paint a clear picture that he entered my lane. He hit me towards the front where the front corner of his right bumper collided where my mirror is. Is there anything I can do about this? I’ll be speaking to my insurance tomorrow since they are closed right now and can use any guidance you all may offer!

2023.06.03 03:46 Malice_Qahwah Scurrying Darkness (Oneshot, gory, horror)

Body Horror, bugs, death, gore. Attempted horror.
By my own standards, this is fairly tame, your mileage may vary, content advisory.
Captain Van’tu, the Garaboosian commander of the Alliance of Free Stars light scout cruiser Mandrake, frowned, in the way of his species, and gestured with a lower lefthand at his human science officer to continue.
The woman turned back to her console, to peer into the hood of her ‘scope and minutely adjust a control.
“The ship is an old Terran Alliance Explorer class, the TAN Nebula Star. She was reported overdue for resupply a little over a hundred years ago, exact details are spotty as the station she was supposed to report to was destroyed in the Terran civil war. By modern standards she was little more than a heavy cruiser with an oversized jumpcore, and limited weaponry. The Terran Alliance Navy was very much focused on exploration and first contact, and several of their vessels vanished without trace only to show up decades later in pirate hands. However, this does not seem to be the case with the Nebula Star…”
The image on the holotable was mute testimony to this information. The old starship, much more massive than the Mandrake, but significantly less well equipped, looked derelict. Several holes gaped in her once-pristene white hull, the smooth lines marred and crooked, and the jumpcore bulb near the stern showed a terrible, blasted crater, black with soot and melted steel.
Captain Van’tu scrolled the smooth wheel of the holo controls, swivelling the image and zooming into the damage.
“What do we think of this, Sasha, that looks like an internal explosion, not battle damage.”
“Yes Captain.” Sasha, the science officer, agreed. She manipulated a pad on her side of the console. Several sidebars lit up. “Here, here and here. Chemical signatures we’ve picked up in the dustcloud around the wreck, and the blast pattern, indicates a high yield chemical explosive was utilised, we would need to get a scan from inside the wreckage to be certain, but I think I can confidently say this was caused by a c4 package commonly kept as part of ship inventories of that era. We carry a similar type of explosive even now, it has uses in a number of emergency protocols.”
The captain nodded. “I’m familiar with Human paranoia, ‘better to have and not need than need and not have’, which is why I learned to carry a backpack heavier than myself at the academy.” He smiled at the woman, who grinned back in that wolfish human fashion.
Commanding a Terran vessel as part of the Alliance Navy was a high honour for a non-Terran, and he’d earned it the hard way, he’d actually completed his officer training on Earth itself, heavy gravity, lethal flora, fauna, and practical jokes be damned, he’d always dreamed of command, and he had never planned to settle for anything less than the best ships of the fleet.
Somehow his determination to ‘make it’ had actually impressed his trainers and teachers, and earned him the interest of a senior Admiral, which explained his current command. And he was no ticket-puncher, his crew was, in his opinion, the best in the fleet, and if his ship was small, he was so proud of her, some days he could almost burst his hearts from it. She was his first, and with luck, not his last, and while scouting duty following pre-war exploration routes was far from glamorous, it was essential work for the Alliance, following up first contacts, reopening lost trade routes, and, now and then, coming across relics, and giving closure to the descendants of those vanished vessels.
“Alright. She looks cold, and her reactor is dead, but we don’t know what happened to her, she could have run afoul of pirates, or been captured and misused for decades, or been left boobytrapped, so pack up a SAR shuttle, and give them a leader drone, they don’t enter unless the drone clears the way in.”
“Aye aye Captain, I’ll get them on their way. Sidearms?”
“Yyy…esss. Yes. And overarmour. If someone’s left any surprises, it will help.”
Sasha turned and walked off, already tapping her communicator to summon the personnel she’d be sending.
He frowned again, looking into the depths of the hologram. Something was bothering him, the same sensation he’d felt while visiting a zoo on Earth. Humans around him grinning, nodding to one another, and the confirmation of his worry came as a boom of hundreds of pounds of apex feline carnivore crashing against the high density crystal he’d been standing with his back to…
Something was creeping up on them, he could feel it.
The shuttle launched from the brightly lit boatbay of the Mandrake, arcing smoothly through the glittering blackness towards the cruelly murdered starship. In front of it zipped the mote of the drone, its scanners and sensors slaved to the shuttle, giving the drone specialist on board an instant feed to all his senses, feeling, experiencing everything the drone saw.
It zipped around the gaping hole where the jumpdrive had once been housed, then around in a helical pattern, scanning every micron of the lost ships hull, mapping it in complete three dimensional perfection, then tracking towards the boatbay. Inside, two, much older, versions of the Mandrakes shuttle rested, crooked against their davits, the bay airlock doors lying open.
The drone slowly crept inside the dark corridor as the shuttle followed it in, nestling into an empty davit. Power hookups, identical after a century thanks to long ago agreed standardisation, marry up, pogo pins compressed and energized, drawing trickle power from the shuttle to latch securely.
The crew debark, except the probe operator who remained strapped in his jumpseat, guiding the drone deeper into the derelict.
Suited figures follow its path, jumping from the shuttle hatch to the airlock. They don’t bother trying to seal it, it had been lying open for a century, there was no air left within to preserve. The drone met a cross passage, and moved right, headed towards the bridge, following schematics downloaded from Mandrake’s computer. The scout crew followed, alert, and making note of damage to bulkheads, the carpets that once covered the floors looking torn, dark stains telling a worrying story.
The probe entered the bridge of the Nebula Star and paused. The LIDAR scanner illuminated the space in a slow pass of green laser light, left to right and back again. The chamber was empty, save the various consoles and chairs the crew would have used, and the lone figure of the Captain, in his central command chair.
To Captain Van’tu, observing the time delayed remote feed on his own bridge, it was remarkable just how similar the darkened derelict wreck was to his own vessel, down to the arrangement of bridge consoles and type of carpeting used. He’d read, in one of his intro to ship design classes, that Terran bridge layout owed much to speculative fiction of pre-spaceflight eras, and a lot of experimental wet-navy designs.
He'd brought it up once with his chief of engineering, who had responded with a ridiculous approximation of a Scottish accent, “Aye laddie, we Terrans owe an awfy lot tae an auld lass called the Enterprise!” and laughed, continuing his explanation in his more natural German accented standardised Terran. Van’tu had spent several informative evenings with his console, soaking up ancient Terran entertainment as a result.
The drone circled the bridge, slowly, keeping its thruster exhaust well clear of the mummified body in the central chair, making its way to the science console. A small arm popped out and slotted into the consoles data port.
Several lights flickered on the antique panel, the probe powering up the cold circuits to read the datalogs, then around the room, dim red lights came to life, as more of the bridge woke up. Through the hull itself, a faint whine transmitted, the probes oversized fusion battery providing enough current to trigger the startup of a backup generator below the bridge.
The scouting party stepped in, peering around. One, her grey skinsuit marked with a red stripe down the arms, moves across to the captain, a medical scanner in her hand.
“I’m reading significant trauma throughout the corpse, but remarkable preservation as well. Life support must have been glitching badly for a long time after… Wait…” She smacked the side of the scanner, then passed it back across the corpse. “Scanner keeps picking up my own heartbeat, trying to tell me this guys still alive, fucking thing.” She put it away in the side pocket of her suit and pulled out a smaller device. “I kept my old one, should be good enough to… Fuck me sideways…”
“Maybe later Carol, what’s the script?” A green stripe on the party leader’s arm. He was looking around, feeling… itchy, between his shoulder blades. Something wasn’t right, and not just the dead ship. He’d been lead on two other derelict searches, and they never went like this. Accidents happened, people died, usually horribly, and you always found, well, bodies. Whole or otherwise. Yet, aside from the clearly traumatic bloodstains on the floors, soaked long before the artificial gravity had failed, this ship hadn’t shown them a single body, nothing, not even fragments.
Not only that but he could swear he’d seen movements. No-one else had, but he also knew that his reflexes tested significantly higher than average, he was seeing something the others were simply not noticing.
Carol stepped away from the corpse.
“My old scanner says this guy’s alive Mark. Heartbeat, brain activity, oxygenated blood. He’s not breathing and he’s a fucking corpse, but both my scanners say he’s gooey in the middle. And I’ll be honest I don’t want to be here, send probes back across on AI control and let them explore, this is too freaky. I know you’ve been seeing shit, well, I’ve been picking up weirdness all along, and this is too much. We should leave!”
Mark bit back a curse. He agreed, but he was also supposed to be a professional, and as the leader of the scout team who first boarded the derelict, he’d have been slated for command of the ‘prize crew’ to bring her home. At the same time, he was holding back a growing uneasiness, his other two team members were shuffling nervously, and Carol was on the edge of panic.
“Alright, we head back to the shuttle and leave the probe to grab the logs. Something’s weird here, might be the atmosphere on this thing, I admit it’s spooky, but we all know I see weird bugs and things other folk miss, and Carol, you’ve had that personal scanner since high school, if it’s saying something weird, something weird is going on. If Captain… Morrison, is still alive after a century in vacuum, he can keep a few more hours until the AI probes can collect him. We’re not equipped for medical evac anyway.”
They stepped back through the hatchway, leaving the probe to its work. Emergency lighting flickered into life, adding a lurid red glare to the tableaux, Mark, last to leave, sharply snapping his head back around as something… He was reminded of a time as a child, he’d turned over a log in his parents’ yard, and hundreds of inch-long centipedes had scurried in panicked circles to escape the sudden glare of sunlight.
Nothing moved, aside from the slow pulsing of rebooting computers.
He followed his people towards the shuttle.
One by one, they made the leap back to the shuttle davit, and boarded, cycling back aboard, and taking their seats. The drone pilot barely moved to acknowledge them, clearly lost in the datefeed from the old computers, and aside from a quick glance across readouts to ensure the data was flowing cleanly to the Mandrake, Mark didn’t disturb the man.
He hit the switch to release the davit clamps, and the popped free. The shuttle turned, and smoothly glided out, aligning with the mothership and headed home. He blinked and shook his head. That motion again, out the corner of his eye. He glanced over, seeing the drone pilot’s faceplate swarming with legs for a fraction of a second.
“Uhh, Josh, you alright there?” He hated breaking into drone pilot concentration, but this wasn’t right, and Carol was gesturing desperately at him from her chair. He reached across, and nudged Josh’s shoulder, the skinsuit collapsing under his fingers and the skull clacking loosely against the faceplate.
Captain Van’tu listened to the soft report coming from Sasha, the scout crew had found the captain of the derelict but were returning early due to some unsettling information they’d found. He didn’t like it, but he also respected human instincts. If skilled officers felt there was a reason to withdraw before mission completion, he knew better than to override the human-on-the-spot.
He’d have a word with Mark later, in private, if necessary, but the man had never been wrong before.
Across the communicator, there was a sudden eruption of yelling, the shuttle on the holo spiralling wildly. Sasha was demanding a clear response from the screaming communicator.
Mark came over the channel. “Abort mission, contamination, alien threat…” His words ended in a gurgling scream, the kind that began high and ended, eventually, in a growling snarl of mortal agony. The line remained open, however, and the entire bridge crew turned to stare, mouths agape, as into the silence the faint sounds of gnawing began to echo.
Sasha shut off the feed with a shaky finger. “Captain, I…”
“I know. Arm several probes, get them to the shuttle, find out what happened and…”
Once more, attention fell to the holo display, as on it, the icon of the shuttle winked red. Sasha motioned, and the focus zoomed in. Where the shuttle had been, a spreading scatter of debris remained.
She pulled up the sidebars again.
“Right before Mark, uh, died, his authorisation codes were used to trigger an overload on the shuttle reactor. We didn’t pick up the feed in real time, they were returning after all, but all of them suffered catastrophic biological distress immediately before their lifesigns cut out. Mark was the last one alive, and severely injured when he triggered the reactor.”
Captain Van’tu shook out his lower hands with a stress-shedding gesture. “The shuttle reactor is in a sealed compartment. He had to get from his chair to the access panel and enter his code, while suffering life threatening injuries which had already killed the rest of his crew?”
“Yes, Captain. I’m sorry, I missed it, my team is still processing the data, but it looks as if the drone pilot ceased responding several minutes before the shuttle departed the wreck. At five minutes into the flight, the three junior officers began exhibiting distress, but gave no verbal alerts. Mark seems to have reacted to something that triggered a fight or flight response, but within a few seconds was exhibiting the same injury markers as the others. At the six-minute mark, he sent his warning, while moving. It appears as if the cessation of his vocalisations was not the end of his life, almost thirty seconds later his code was entered into the shuttle reactor, and it detonated.”
Captain Van’tu moved to his command chair, and sat down, lower hands grasping the armrests, upper hands folding under his chin. “Helm, chart course back to the nearest Alliance outpost, and warm up the jumpcore. Tactical, bring shields to standby and start charging the grasers, I don’t like what’s happening, and I do not want to be caught with our backs turned.”
His crew moved into action, tactical alerts bringing various stations to readiness.
“Sir! We’re receiving a communications request, uh, from the Nebula Star.”
He stared at his communications officer, who looked equally shocked.
“Please, Jen, put them through to the main holo.”
The hovering image of the wreckage that had once been a shuttle vanished, replaced by the familiastrange image of the old bridge, and its captain.
The man was a corpse, there was no debate. The papery skin had pulled back from his eyes and teeth, his nose collapsed inwards, decades of icy coldness and baking heat as the derelict tumbled slowly from shade to sunlight had freeze dried the body, yet, it moved. The jaw flapped open, and the sticklike arms gestured against the command chair arms, clawed fingertips clicking uselessly.
“Gree. Tings. Un. Known. Vess. Sell. I. Am. Cap. Tan. Morr. Iss. Son. We. Come. In. Peace.”
The corpse in the holo quivered and twitched in some horrible mockery of life, the bared grey teeth clicking as the jaw spasmed open and closed, not, Van’tu noted, in time with the words being spoken. Inside the jaws, he also noticed, something black and shiny and segmented.
“I highly doubt you come with any sort of peace in mind, what are you really, and what did you do to the crew of the shuttle who boarded the ship you are on.”
The body twitched, a trickle of black ooze popping free from the corner of the sunken eye socket. Under the dried up eyelid, something squirmed around, curling with segmented motion, a few pointed claws poking briefly free before vanishing once more.
“I. Am. Cap. Tan. Morr. Iss. Son. We. Come. In. Peace. We. Rek. Wire. Ass. Iss. Tan. Sse. Let. Uss. Board.”
An alert flashed from Sashas direction. A gesture diminished Captain Morrison to a corner of the holo and expanded the view of the derelict. Two shuttles of archaic design had just launched from it and begun making their way towards the Mandrake. He muted his pickup and turned to his tactical officer.
“Jeff? They do not get close enough to board.”
“Aye aye sir, tracking has them locked and my grazers are charged.”
“Very good.”
He returned to the holo and reopened the grisly view of the dead man being puppeted on his display.
“You will not be permitted to board my ship. I demand to know who you are, what you represent, and why you are trying to impersonate Captain Morrison.”
“You. Are. Food. You. Have. Use. Full. Tech. Nol. Ogy. We. Will. Take. It. We. Will. Use. You. We. Will. Mul. Tip. Lie. This. Vess. Hell. Came. To. Us. In. Peace. We. Took. It. We. Came. For. Ter. Rah. We. Became. Trapped. We Became. Lethargic. We have waited. Now you have brought us. A new vessel to carry us. To Terra.”
Captain Van’tu shook his head. If these things were familiar with humans, they’d recognise the gesture. For the sake of understanding he’d long ago learned to at least emulate some human body language.
“You will not be allowed to go any further. I have a duty to safeguard the people under my command, and to the people of… Terra.” Whatever this species was, it was not something he wanted anywhere near a colony or, worse, defenceless homeworld, of any of the Allied or friendly species he knew lay between here and Terra herself. Best for all they only had Terra in mind.
“Sir! The incoming shuttles are not going for docking, they’re on a ramming approach! Firing solution lost on bogey one!” The Mandrakes grazers were firing, gunnery crews managing their weapons as they tracked automatically and fired, spearing one of the wildly corkscrewing shuttles with lances of gravitationally focused gamma radiation. The second shuttle however spun, and fell downwards, smashing into the still warming shields, and through, impacting the Mandrakes hull with tremendous speed.
The scouting vessel shuddered. The shuttle had breached through the outer hull and spilled into a mess area.
Thanks to the alert condition, all crew had been in skinsuits, not that this helped the two cooks who had been finishing off the lockdown of the mess kitchen.
Fresh alerts sounded, the sound of which sent crewpeople to arms lockers. Mandrake had been boarded.
Captain Van’tu pointed to his tactical officer. “Destroy that wreck! vaporise it!”
“Sir! Weapons are offline, on-mount crews are reporting power losses.”
Across the bridge, the communications officer looked up. “Reports coming in, boarders are breaking out of mess two!”
The captain snarled. Ancient Garaboosians had warded off predators with that sound, and his teeth bared in an animalistic threat display. He slammed a finger into the appropriate button on his armrest.
“All hands, all hands, defence stations, repel boarders!”
His head snapped around. “Sasha, do we still have telemetry from the drone on the Nebula? If so, I want it to shut that shitheap down, or overload its reactors!”
His science officer acknowledged with an “Aye captain!” and turned to her console.
He returned to his holo. Removed the mute. “You have attacked an Alliance of Free Stars vessel, while using a Terran Alliance vessel reported lost to causes unknown. I am hereby declaring you to be pirates, and you will be treated accordingly. Surrender now and you will be returned to your government or homeworld after serving a prison term to be determined by Admiralty courts.”
He did not expect the thing pretending to be Captain Morrison to surrender.
“There will be no surrender. We will take all you have and all you are. You will be ours to consume and use.”
His tactical alert flashed, somehow, the older ship was charging its weapons systems. He flicked a gesture, and the old vessels appeared, with sidebars. The weapons were underpowered, and normally not really a threat to a modern vessel, but the Mandrake had just been rammed by a shuttle, cutting power to her own weapons, and disrupting her shields, it would take several more minutes to regenerate them.
He glared at the grinning visage of the corpse which was still mimicking life. The left arm was still quivering against the rest, fingertips drumming against a keypad almost identical to his own. From the bottom of the sunken belly of the dead man, a slowly undulating shape crawled, a thick-pincered head, followed by a segmented body flowing with sharp-tipped clawlike legs. It moved upwards and climbed back in through Morrisons throat.
“Captain, boarders have been destroyed. Sir, they were humans, but they were dead. Like mummies. They had some kinds of bugs inside, we had to go in with plasma to clear them out.”
“I see. Ensure all the bulkhead seals around the messhall compartment are still green, and pull everyone back, full medical scans on exit. Once everyone is clear, blow the compartment.”
“Uh, yes, sir, understood. Engineering teams are saying they’ll have full weapons restored in eight minutes.”
“Good. We can’t allow any of these things to get back to inhabited space. I want that wreck vaporised. Mess compartment too.”
He continued to watch the dead mans fingers rattle against the old command chair. And nodded.
“Captain Morrison, it has been an honour. Captain Van’Tu, out.”
In the holo, the corpse finally went still. The creatures which had inhabited him began to swarm, black blood and ichor bursting from his skull as the mother of the monsters which had ridden his body and his ship since they had tricked their way aboard a century before, burst free from her manipulating, feeding grasp in his skull.
“Captain, the drone has fully copied the Nebula Stars database, but is unable to access any critical systems. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay Sasha. When we have weapons available, we’ll finish whatever is left.”
“Sir? I don’t understand what…”
The holo tank cut her off. The Nebula Star had fired its engines, angling towards an intercept with the Mandrake, it needed to be much closer to engage with its much more primitive weapons. As the engines flared to life, fire blossomed across the aft hull. Multiple explosions rippled through it, billowing outwards from within, as the reawakened fusion reactors, initially stirred to life by the probes batteries, then by crawling undead crew hidden in the ships dead spaces, all overloaded, and detonated in a final orgy of self-annihilation.
There was a shudder again, as the Mandrakes crew activated the emergency charges that blew an entire section of the ship into space, carrying with it the bodies of dozens of the Nebula Stars crew, hundreds of incinerated and still crawling parasitic alien monsters, and the corpses of two unfortunate cooks.
“Begin sweeping everything in range with fire, maximum power and aperture, everything must burn. I want medical and bio survey teams going around the clock scanning for any trace of those things that might have breached containment. For the record, I will be recommending the Mandrake be scuttled once all crew are cleared and disembarked. Needless to say, we will not be making any landfall or station docks before then.”
He sat down in his command chair. He couldn’t remember standing up. He stared down at his armrest, and the keypad on it. With the fingers of his bottom left hand, he began typing, sending the results to the main holo where Sasha watched, curious.
ENMY HMWRLD r41429.135 i334451 b-1.791 KILL BURN QURTN
The rest of the sequence was the override code that would trigger the Nebula Star to overload its powerplants and blow itself to pieces before it could be used against its creators.
“Captain? How did you get that message? The log entries are still being processed, but it doesn’t look like anything coherent survived, there’s no co-ordinates in them.” Sasha was confused, and Captain Van’Tu smiled.
“Humans, you’re all the same when it comes down to the wire. Mark blew his shuttle rather than let it dock with those things on board. Even while they ate him alive, he crawled through his command, to do his duty to his species, and to the galaxy. Captain Morrison held off death, kept those things guessing, somehow, as they tried to use him, his ship, to reach Earth, made them keep him in some sort of horrific half-life, until they were distracted enough that he could get back control of his hand. His chair Sasha, same as mine. Probably came out of the same factory, a century apart, and he was typing, while they tried to speak to us, while they tried to board us, shoot us, while we distracted them, he set them up to give us the knowledge he knew we would need to ensure they would never threaten anyone again.”
Fire was still blossoming across the larger area of the holo display, graser weapons detonating fragments of hull with nuclear fire.
“Once we’ve cleared the skies here, we head to an outpost, and start warning the Admiralty. Jobs not over until these things are completely contained.”
103 Years, 4 months, 5 days before.
Jack staggered, his leg still bleeding from where a crewman had slashed at him with fingers broken into sharp bone claws. He’d stamped the mans head until the skull popped, rupturing the centipede thing curled inside. He was close. The familiar, once comforting hallways of the Nebula Star had become nightmarish, red lighting and blotches of gore, streaks of blood on the pristine walls, he was living in a horror game, but he had a job to finish.
He pushed off the wall he’d leant against. Behind him, he could hear screaming, and begging. He didn’t stop. It was a trick. They found the noises amusing, and mimicked them, discovering that it could draw in ‘helpers’ they could ambush.
Aft section, frame fourteen, jumpcore bay. He slapped the button, and fell through the door as it slid open. Inside, the bay was immaculate, no-one had been in here since this had started. How they had gotten aboard, he didn’t know.
Inside the skull of a landing team member, he could guess.
He knelt beside the humming machinery. His vision was going grey around the edges, he could feel dripping around his knees, he was kneeling in a pool of his own blood after only a few seconds, he didn’t have long.
He pushed his burden against the drive casing, the chem-catalyst agent on the back bonding it to the drive with a molecular weld.
He pressed the keypad of the emergency c4 cannister, the detonator arming with a beep, and a green telltale.
He typed in a code, short, sweet, he’d forgotten it by the time he reached the end, it didn’t matter. The disarm code was only for when you wanted to be able to stop the countdown. Ten seconds.
They reached him, before it finished counting. Inside his brain, they couldn’t find the code to stop the bomb.
The Nebula Star would not reach Terra, he made sure of that.
As the jumpcore failed, blowing a ragged hole out of the sleek hull, a single shuttle spun away from the boatbay, damaged, lifeless, cold and drifting outwards into the depths of space, the mutilated human corpse within stirring once with scurrying life, then going still.

50 Shades of Platonic - Round 22
Oh, my dearest Polinators. What a few days it's been.
Can you even begin to comprehend that the prophesied Coming Weeks may finally be upon us?
You'd think after everything we've been through, I'd know better by now than to fall back into a spiral of actually believing we could be getting something. And yet here I am, clown shoes on and happily painting my face, whilst I wait for my curly wig and red nose to arrive in the mail.
Double Tudum, let's go.
And what does this have to do with the Platonic Gazes game, you might wonder? Well, just think. If we get a clip, or even a still, it could feature a whole new platonic gaze from Colin. My brain can't even process such a possibility. What would a S3 platonic gaze look like?! And we will even be able to survive it!?
Whilst we await our fates, let's turn back to what we do have. And what we have is Colin and his ridiculous gazes.
Our most recent round was a difficult one indeed, with two dearly-loved races gazes going head-to-head. I found it especially painful, as both are particular favourites of mine. But only one could win and, with a convincing 65.4% of votes, We Didn't Have A Chance to Flirt This Morning stole the victory away from My Eyelashes Bring All My Besties To The Yard.
Apparently, you were all fans of the way Colin ditched his guy friends without a second thought. It's giving Colin 'My Wife' Bridgerton energy and we're here for it:
'This was a very difficult decision, but I do love to see Colin suddenly leave his inferior male friends to greet the love of his life that he currently thinks is just a swell friend who makes his heart leap.'
'I love how the moment he sees her, he just drops off everything and leaves his acquaintances to go to Pen. Guy knows his priorities even if he doesn't fully realize it yet.'
'he has spent probably about an hour or two away from her while they all got suited and booted for the horse-show down, and even, when all that time has passed, and he is (probably) engrossed in a convo with his pals, he still notices her, he still turns to face her, fully, he still calls her name, and he dumps his buddies for his (apparently 🙄) soon to be wife.'
For many, the highlight of the gaze was how 'his face just lights up', the 'little movement in the eyebrows' showing the 'moment he notices her and his face changes, so you know that look is for her.' We also had appreciation for Pen's role in the scene, as she 'fake-casually waits for him to notice her, and not only does he notice, his face lights up as he calls her name and makes a beeline for her.'
'I love it so much. I need this reaction every time he spots her,' one voter declared which once again has me spiralling over all the gazes we're going to get in Season 3. I have a feeling they won't be quite as carefree and breezy as this one though.
Of course, the Eyelashes were never going to go down without a fight:
'What would I give to have Colin bat his pretty eyelashes at me? EV-RY-THING. I'm surprised Penelope even held herself together!'
'I had to go with the fluttering races. I think it is just so cute. I mean, I can't handle how cutely awkward their whole vibe is at the races in general. However, his smile and fluttering actions like he is a school girl with his first crush is extra cute to me.'
Sadly, it wasn't enough. As always, our sweet and so-very-cursed KTKnits was left in despair: 'How does the one I love always seem to be trampled by maurading minotaurs? Mr. Head Tilt Eyelash Flutter is openly flirting and fluttering at Pen. It's adorable. Why is it losing by such a wide margin?'
KT was not the only one left bewildered by the turn of events, with another voter adding, 'I too am very surprised at the shellacking fluttering eyelashes is getting.' But that's the way the cookie crumbles, sometimes. Believe me, I'm not happy about it either (even though I did help vote it out.) And so we say goodbye to our much-adored Fluttery Eyelashes and pray that they may one day safely return to us in Season 3. 🙏
Until we meet again. 🫡 TFTM. x
But alas, our broken hearts must somehow beat on.
For today, it's:
And we're off back to the Featherington Ball! You might as well grab your glass of lemonade now because we'll be spending the next gaze here, too. It's an eventful evening, after all. And what do we have here to start us off? One Mister Bridgerton dancing with one Cressida Cowper!? Quelle horreur! But worry not, dear friends, as - mid-dance - Colin pauses for a moment to send a sneaky gaze over to Pen. It's his little way of trying to reassure her that he's got it all under control, telepathically saying to her: 'Give me one sec, Pen. I just need to charm this necklace off the décolletage of your mortal enemy then I'm going to swoop over to you and take your hand in mine and tell you to \"Come with me\" in the softest voice you ever did hear and then I'm going to pull you away from the ballroom in front of everyone and guide you by the hand all the way upstairs just in case you get lost in your own house and then I will give you the most thrilling geography lesson of your life and I'll save your family from ruin and everything's going to be perfect because we're such good friends and that's what friends do.' Did you catch all that, Pen? Something tells me she doesn't *quite* get this exact memo because Colin's sweet, steady gaze is met with an absolutely THUNDEROUS glare from Pen, who looks ready to commit murder. Bless him for trying.

Fighting it out against:
Chaotic Colin really truly entered the chat that night, didn't he? After disappearing from the ballroom hand-in-hand with Penelope for a solid five minutes, Colin returns by himself and downs a glass of champagne. (Geography lessons are thirsty work, after all.) Pen rushes back over to him and instead of acting calm and collected, Colin quite literally leans into the chaos. Remember the time at the Hastings Ball when Pen rejected his dance and ran off? Colin most certainly does and he ain't risking that again. \"Good, because we are dancing,\" he tells her with a delicious grin, before he pulls her straight into a dance. The satisfied little 'hmm' he makes as they head to the dancefloor? Exquisite.
Unfair advantage or not, I can't resist including this gem(stone mine) of a photo:
This isn't the angle that makes the final cut but it's been used enough in publicity for it to count. Look. At. Those. Hands. We're not just dealing with a normal gaze here. It's a gaze where he leans in super closely (is the closest they've ever physically been to one another?), in front of everyone in the ballroom, takes BOTH her hands in his and then pulls her straight in for a dance. And all this is taking place just after the two of them have had a private rendezvous in one of the Featherington rooms? I love Colin more than I can ever say but wtf is going on in his sweet mind? No matter how you cut it, Mr Platonic with all his gazes, handholding and intense dancing really sealed their fates that night. Because, yeah. If I was Fife, I'd have questions too, pal. Just normal friend things, Colin? Give me a break.
*screams, dies, no further comment required*
There you are, my clowning friends. Happy voting. I'm off to curl up and die now because it's 2:30am, I'm at work in the morning and I'm currently so ill that I feel as though I belong in one of those classic hurt/comfort one-of-them-is-at-death's-door fics you find on AO3. Those happen to be some of favourite fics, actually, but I'd rather read them than live them, you know?
Obvs x

2023.06.03 03:44 ohnoo95 Hydrocephalus

Female 28 190lbs smoker 5’2
Had terrible neck pain to the point I couldn’t turn my neck. This caused headaches and eye pain and light sensitivity. That was 10 days ago. 3 days ago my eyes were at a point that I have to keep one closed to be able to see or everything is double or blurred. I went to the eye doctor yesterday and she said my bilateral optic nerves were so inflamed she wanted me back in the er. ER did a lumbar puncture and removed 1300 in fluid. My eyes felt great for the first time for only about 2 hours. Neuro came in and told me I have hydrocephalus. He said right now he’s going to keep me on diuretic and said I should try to loose weight but it would need to rapidly. He said the pills are temporary and I’ll need a shunt. It’s only two days on the pills and I really feel they don’t do much other than make me want to puke. Tomorrow I have to do an MRA and the neurosurgeon is coming to speak to me. My question is if I’m going to need the shunt within a couple months why isn’t he just telling me to do it now? Wouldn’t that bring relief quicker? Also is that surgery serious I’m trying to avoid google.

2023.06.03 03:38 ExistingGhostGirl The Dairy of a ExistingGhostGirl (#1)

I original didn't plan to use this account for anything other then keeping up with the current PS4 custom firmware. Last few times I used Reddit it wasn't fun. So I decided to make this account and kind of hope this will be different, but that's just me being stupid like normal.
Today has been good, Didn't get to do everything I wanted today, but tomorrow exists so I'm not worried about it. Yesterday I got bored and made 2 different Trans Lesbian Pride flags. Also made a glitchy gif version that cycles through the 3 flags with glitch effects.

Since I don't own a Switch and everybody has been playing Tears of the Kingdom it really made me want to play something Zelda related. I decided to replay Oracle of Ages since I never actually beat it when I first got it. I remember almost nothing about it too. Like just a few small things, Zelda for once doesn't get kidnapped, Ganon isn't in it, and you can travel through time. Which I'm assuming is what you can do in Ocarina of Time. I mean I seen people play Ocarina of Time, but of course I didn't pay much attention half the time.
Been slowly recording and uploading videos to YouTube. Sometimes I'm just not bored enough to want to even work on a video or I have to work on Close Captions, since I have a speech impediment or I'm just not bored enough to even stream. I use to stream on Twitch, but after 3 years of getting nothing but bot followers/spam messages I give up on it. Then Kick came out, but after they started posting stuff about letting racist people join I stopped using it. Not dealing with that BS. Once in a blue moon I will stream on 17Live, which is popular with Asian countries because they don't have a lot of rules besides the usual like no alcohol, no smoking, no nudity, etc. It's also the only one where I actually get to talk with people even if they only stay for 5 minutes, which is good enough for me.
Anyway i think that's all for now. This will probably be a Friday thing or every other Friday. Depends on how I feel or if boredom sets in (It's more likely I will get bored enough to post something then me making a random post because I feel like it).

2023.06.03 03:34 ConsistentBicycle313 Best friend ghosted me after I’d asked her to be my maid of honor

Little bit of background for this, as it probably seems really odd. My best friend and I have been close ever since we met in middle school, gossiping about stupid things, getting into trouble etc. we have been close through high-school and I was hoping into later adulthood. She was the first one to know when I started dating my now fiancé, and the first to know when he’d proposed to me February 2023. After I’d initially told her about the engagement she initially seemed happy for both of us. That’s when I started noticing messages and interactions becoming more and more non-existent. It didn’t bother me at first as I understand life gets busy and things happen… A few weeks (maybe even a good 2 months) after I’d told her about the engagement, I’d wanted to ask her if she’d want to be my maid of honor. I planned a bit to be able to give her a card to ask her (at the time my job restricted me to certain hours and meeting up in a time frame both of us could work wasn’t gonna happen). I’d texted her to ask if I could give her something that night, and she’d said no. (I honestly have forgotten the reason why) So I asked if there was another time I could drop by and give the card to her, to which there wasn’t a clear response. I’d ended up giving the card to a friend of mine to give to her as they saw each-other more during the day, and it would be easier instead of continuously not being able to hand it to her myself…. After the card had been given to her, I never received an answer as to if she’d wanted to be my MOH, she instead just asked for when the date of the wedding will be, and we haven’t planned that far out yet, but as time passes we’re nearing a date for the wedding. She’d said okay to this, and after I’d gotten that reply, even if I sent something as a conversation starter it was met with very little words, and has moved to nothing. It’s been almost 2 months since I’ve spoken to my best friend, and at this point I feel like I’d be burdening her if I sent a message after such a long time.. Did I do something wrong? Or is there something I’m not doing correctly? Because I feel like I lost someone I thought I’d wouldn’t loose for many many more years, and yet it already feels like the friendship is no longer there after so much time.

2023.06.03 03:32 MaxMaxrko2355 People who Ship Tanya with anything. I have to ask you this question

People who Ship Tanya with anything. I have to ask you this question
I understand that shipping is basically what all fandoms do and that because Tanya is an authority figure and is older (even if no one else knows it) Tanya always comes off as dominant
Have you ever thought about the logic behind these ships?
For starters Tanya doesn't know what love is. For her her previous life was about fulfilling goals until she lived well. In the Japanese society in which she lived she never expected love from her parents and considered the job of the parents as completed since they fed her and sent her to school.
In her second life she meets Visha who in the manga appears as a close friend, however it is a slow progress. For her the idea of starting a relationship never crosses her mind and when she thinks of fulfilling the social roles associated with women a text appears that she would have committed suicide if she had a gun nearby.
She would never date a woman either. It is a constant danger to her career in the age she lives in and would be a constant reminder that she is a woman. Although it could be interpreted as her particular way of rebelling against Being X.
In conclusion, she would never initiate a relationship, neither with men nor women. At least she would not start one
Maybe a more realistic scenario within the possibility of ship would be that Visha would initiate the relationship (or your character you want to ship).
However any relationship would probably be toxic or problematic. That a man would initiate a relationship with Tanya when she rejects so directly being a woman that she suggest suicide.
Or hat Visha would initiate a relationship with the danger it entails. Any ship would have to start in a way that Tanya is forced into the situation. It's the only logic I see possible if you want to ship Tanya with someone
I'm sure many people will tell me "It's just shipping, no need to reason it out" but I wanted to reason it out partly because of the amount of ship I see where Tanya either accepts her sex easily or as a cold calculator decides to make an illogical/irrational decision.
This is all considering that the manga seems to touch on that part of Tanya. I haven't read the light novel but I think it focuses more on politics and war.
I know that my opinion is not necessarily the correct one. But I think I have good arguments to say what I say.

2023.06.03 03:32 sleepy-droid AITA for not always being thoughtful of my boyfriend

AITA for not always being thoughtful of my boyfriend
My (23f) boyfriend (25m) is often very thoughtful of me. I have said since the start of our relationship that I don't deserve it and I also don't expect him to do it. I'd say all in all he is more giving than I am.
We don't live together, but I am at his place more than half the time. We both work the same thing.
E.g. he cooks more often for me than I do for him. He cleans up more than me (it's his room but I spend a lot of time there). I never ask him to, he just does and I am always grateful.
I gotta admit I'm lazy in comparision to him. (I have depression and Hashimotos but I don't think it's an excuse). But I wouldn't say I'm selfish. My bf has been kinda broke in the last month's, so I pay for food or other stuff, I often buy stuff that I know he likes. And E.g. I went shopping for the first time in a year, I only bought cheap underwear for me but for him I bought a nice shirt and jacket. I also basically made his school work for something he really didn't wanna do. I do small things like bringing him beer sometimes.
I know I'm not the perfect gf. And I gotta admit sometimes when he asks me to do something, I only do it reluctantly and that is obvious.
But in the last time, we've been fighting and he has called me straight up egotistical, and I think that is too far.
For example yesterday. we both have our own water bottles. He always fills up both bottles. The night before, he drinks up my water bottle, so it's empty when I went to sleep. At 3am I was thirsty and went to fill up my water bottle, only mine.
The next day he kinda makes an argument out of it, that I never think of him while he always thinks of me. I get annoyed that he is seriously getting argumentative about this. I don't remember the whole argument, but he said I'm egoistic, I tell him not to exaggerate over everything, he doesn't stop and he is angry, I tell him he needs to go to therapy.
At this point it starts getting ugly, he says I am a mistake, I tell him he's sick. He closes the lid of my work computer though he knew I was waiting for a teams call. I complain but he just mocks me. I tell him he's sick or sth and tell him he should ask his parents for their opinion about him reacting like this because of a water bottle (cause they're in the same house). He mocks me and threatens to pour water over me and my work laptop. (I don't think he would actually do it, but it wasn't a joke either).
More hasn't happened cause I left at this point and I'm home now, haven't talked to him since yesterday. I am trying to see it from his side. It's true that e.g. he always fills up both water bottles while I usually only fill up mine. Just because honestly I don't think of it. And maybe it happens with a lot of things and it's been frustrating for him. But he makes it sound like I do absolutely nothing and he has called me egotistical so often, I'm sick of it.
Am I the asshole?

2023.06.03 03:25 clutchdeft City councilors to consider $1 million or more settlement in Trump rally lawsuit

City councilors on Wednesday will discuss and possibly vote on whether to pay $1 million or more to settle a lawsuit filed by a former elementary school art teacher who was arrested on a public street outside then-President Donald Trump’s June 2020 campaign rally at the BOK Center.
The City Council is required to approve settlements of $1 million or more. The matter is scheduled to be discussed in executive session at the council’s 4 p.m. meeting, with a possible vote in open session, according to the City Council agenda.
Sheila Buck filed the lawsuit in Tulsa County District Court in June 2021 against multiple defendants, including the Trump campaign, the city of Tulsa and two Tulsa police officers, C.J. Rhoades and Matthew Parker, alleging various civil rights violations.
The lawsuit — which was later moved to federal court — claims that Trump’s campaign had no legal basis to give the Tulsa Police Department power to arrest Buck and that Trump’s rhetoric before the rally toward those who might oppose his political message factored into how the Trump campaign, and by extension Tulsa police, treated her on the day of her arrest.
Buck had a ticket to the event and passed through security on her way into a cordoned-off area outside the arena when a member of Trump’s campaign staff asked the Secret Service, a private security firm and Tulsa police to remove her from the premises, according to court filings.
When she was told she was not allowed in the cordoned-off area, Buck showed her event ticket and insisted that she had a right to stay, at which point she was informed that she would have to leave, according to court filings. She eventually was arrested by Rhoades and Parker and taken to the Tulsa County jail, where she was booked on a misdemeanor complaint of obstructing a police officer.
At the time, Buck was wearing a black head covering and a black T-shirt with the words “I Can’t Breathe” on the front — a reference to words spoken by George Floyd in Minneapolis and Eric Garner in New York during fatal encounters with police.
In an opinion and order issued last year in response to the defendants’ motions to dismiss, U.S. District Judge Claire Eagan noted that the Trump campaign did not apply for a city permit, “which is generally required to block public street access around the BOK Center.”
The judge also wrote that Buck “has plausibly alleged that she was removed because of the content of her protected speech.”
“That is, government actors — acting at the direction of the Trump Campaign, a private organization that did not have authority to control or restrict protected speech — removed plaintiff from a public forum because of her expressive attire," Eagan wrote.
The Trump campaign and the campaign's manager were dismissed from the lawsuit early in the proceedings.
Eagan also referenced a Tulsa Police Department Facebook post stating that officers at the location “will remove individuals only at the direction of campaign staff.”
Police also released footage from Parker’s body camera, which showed him telling Buck the campaign had a permit that allowed it to control access to the perimeter.
A city spokeswoman said previously that the campaign would not have needed a permit because of an exemption within city ordinances on special events for activities by a government agency “acting within the scope of its authority.”
The city told the Tulsa World in 2020 that the rally for Trump had been considered a private campaign event and also a federal government activity.
"The city can confirm the lawsuit was negotiated outside of court through mediation and will go to the City Council for consideration," a city spokesperson said Friday.
Daniel Smolen, Buck's attorney, did not respond to a request for comment Friday, but he has said previously that Buck, who is in her 60s, decided she had to move out of Tulsa after her arrest was televised across the globe.
A Tulsa County District Court judge threw out the misdemeanor police obstruction charge against Buck last month.

2023.06.03 03:24 dancingintheround I (33F) struggle with making friends and don't know what to do

I (33F) struggle with making and keeping friends. I'm not a sociopath, I'm not cruel or antisocial, I just tend to be a bit of a loner and am prone to withdrawing. My best friends moved out of state and we maintain a close relationship, but it's not enough when sometimes you want to be in the presence of your friends. I've tried making other friends by using apps and trying to put myself out there in work or school environments, but it's not a very fruitful endeavor. My partner, bless him, thinks I'd make a great friend to whoever is "lucky enough" (I do trust his word - he's very blunt with me), but I struggle with speaking my piece and get really put off by people's behaviors a lot of the time. I feel like I tend to lack boundaries and often am very sensitive, so while I understand people who do things that bother me, it doesn't stop it from a) driving a wedge between us that we both have to deal with or b) causing conflict that I do a poor job of resolving (ie. turning away/distancing myself from the person). I am then known for retreating into myself.
I want to socialize, but I want a casual friendship that involves sharing some parts of our lives, a heap of independence and freedom, understanding that I'm not always going to be available to talk/hang out and won't always want to foot the bill/be willing to be the one to compromise all the time, that I won't always want to be the therapist or sounding board, etc. I'm struggling with being in what I feel is a lopsided relationship right now, and I don't know when it's enough to just say I tried and shut down shop. A friend I'm currently going through this with is experiencing some hardship, but their background is different from mine. I was told 'I hope you're not one of those workaholics like my dad...' when I got quiet because I started a new job and was working a lot. They were 100% serious, and expressed that this would be a bad thing. I grew up poor, am working class at the moment, whereas she is very much from an upper middle-class background and does not have to work to live. I struggle with relating to her sometimes and that really bothered me and made me feel like she's out of touch, and that this friendship is not built to last, among other reasons.
Even though I struggle with making friends, I am so lucky I have the few I do from all these years ago, and would do mostly anything to keep them and be there for them. I just think I'm in the place where if you disturb my peace for even a minute, I'm not interested in seeing where a friendship could lead. Is that unproductive thinking? I have never been very good socially and constantly feel this is the one area of my life holding me back.
How does one make and maintain friendships in their 30's???

2023.06.03 03:22 novacaneoceanfr Giving my 10 year old Labrador away

Giving my 10 year old Labrador away
I’m sorry for the very long explanation that is yet to come. But I think hearing the whole story is very necessary.
So I adopted my lab, zoey, when she was 8 years old. We adopted her from a family friend who lives on a farm during COVID. My auntie that I adopted her from found Zoey on the side of the road when she was about 5. She lived a tough life before my auntie. She had an original owner that had to give her up to her friends because she became homeless. Her friends did not take great care of her, they bred her with 4 litters and then dropped her on the side of the road.
She then became a farm dog at my aunties for about 2-3 years. However, my auntie was not expecting to get a 3rd dog so when my mum mentioned I was wanting a dog, she said I could have Zoey for a “trial” run. So I adopted her March 2020.
We started to notice she had symptoms of anxiety. My auntie & mum didn’t know she had seperation anxiety when they gave her to me but we started to realize if we left the house, she would bark non stop and pant, sometimes tear her bed up/sheets. BUT it was during peak Covid so we really did not have to leave her at all for the first year or so. I was also completing my undergrad during this time so when I did have to leave her, it would only be for 3 hours max.
I also “hacked” her seperation anxiety by a certain method. I figured out that she does not freak out when you leave the room, just when she sees you leave the front doo close the door on her in a room. If you leave the door open and leave, she is fine. So I started a routine by giving her a nice big walk, giving her a treat, sitting by her side for a bout 30 minutes or until she’s settled, then leaving out the back door. I also leave a podcast on really loud in the distance so she cannot hear me leave.
This whole routine works great as far as her not having a panic attack when I leave her, but it is very time consuming. Also, since I have been a student since I’ve had her, she didn’t have to be home alone for no more than 3 hours. But, I am starting a full time job soon.
Right now is a very pivotal moment for me in my life. I just graduated and am starting to think of what next steps I want to take in my career and life. These past 2 years I’ve lost site of who I am and what I like to do because i spend most of my time worrying about Zoey and if she is going to be ok. I’ve turned down many opportunities, my gym, and social events because going through the trouble of doing my routine with her is very time consuming and also very anxiety inducing for me. When school went back to in person, the only time I left her was for a class. I never went to the library to study with friends, took up workouts from home, and always declined social events.
Right now im living with my boyfriend and his dad. Zoey is pretty familiar with this place as she’s lived here during the summers when I was off from school and since December. My boyfriend wants to keep her but he has a full time job as well. We’ve been searching for a place to rent together but the market is crazy high right now and I have to start paying loans off soon. So, my only options are to move out to my sisters place (which is not pet friendly) or stay at his dads (which I have very much overstayed my welcome, and because I have trauma with my relationship with my own dad, living here is uncomfortable for me).
I think I realized I need to start prioritizing my self and starting living life again for me and not for Zoey. I love her with all my heart but I know that if I keep her I will continue declining opportunities and putting her first over my own mental well being. So I’ve thought about giving her back to my auntie to the farm she came from, but she is a lot older than she was when I got her and I’m afraid she won’t adjust to the farm lifestyle again.
The second option is leaving her with my boyfriend at his dads place but I’m extremely nervous about her staying at home for 8 hours +. She is an old pup and she’s pretty low energy these days so I know she could stay at home but she is a very clingy dog and likes to be around people. I have left her at home from 9-3 before but not very many times. Sometimes I came home and can tell she has been panting/barking.
So my question is now how I should go about this situation. Should I take her to the vet and see if she needs some sort of relaxation medication so she can be at home while my boyfriend works? Or would sending her back to where she came from not be that bad? Please let me know what you think and thank you for reading all of this if you made it here.

2023.06.03 03:22 jhsu802701 Even if COVID-19 ended tomorrow, I'd still stick with most precautions!

I know from watching the wastewater viral load ( that COVID-19 is NOT over, and no amount of spin from anyone can change this. However, I've been hearing that lots of people are getting sick these days and that there's much more coughing at airports and other crowded places now than was the case in the past. (And someone posted on Masks4All about a local tuberculosis outbreak at .)
COVID infections weaken the immune system. Given that so many people have had multiple COVID infections and thus multiple chances to have their immune systems weakened, that would explain why there's so much more sickness out there. In the past, this time of the year was the slow season for colds and flu, so having outbreaks of something similar is quite a departure from historical patterns.
The precaution I'm most eager to drop is the physical distancing. Indoor restaurant dine-in and travel are the last steps in my reopening process. If COVID-19 disappeared tomorrow, I'd still stick with the other precautions (like masking up, nasal sprays, homemade air purification, Vitamin D3 supplementation, Vitamin B12 supplementation, getting enough selenium, and a healthy diet).
I've always hated being sick, even for just one day. Even the slightest hint of a fever stops me from doing anything. I hate having a stuffy nose, because it makes me feel like I'm going to suffocate to death. I hate sneezing, because it's so loud and messy. (I even weaken my sneezes by closing my mouth, and I don't care if people think that's cheating.) I hate having a runny nose, because it's so messy. I hate blowing my nose, because that requires me to drop what I'm doing, grab a tissue, and then run to the bathroom to wash my dirty hands. (At least sniffing and swallowing are so much quicker and easier. And no, I don't care if people think that's cheating.)
If all infectious diseases disappeared tomorrow as well, I'd still stick with most of the nutritional precautions, and there are lots of unhealthy foods that I'm NEVER returning to. (I do NOT miss the food coma. And I do NOT miss the endless thirst from overdosing on the sodium.) I've made a very limited return to junk foods and restaurant foods, and I've found that my taste buds are more sensitive than they used to be. I'm guessing that some of the foods I enjoyed even a few years ago are no longer edible to me.

2023.06.03 03:21 Jambalaya1982 How to help your partner understand your exhaustion... any tips?

I've been working part time at home with my 7 month old recently but will be going back full time in a few months. This week was probably my longest amount of hours working part time (2 days of virtual meetings, followed by independent work). In addition, I do all the cooking, manage pickup and drop off of our 5 year old to school (thank God there is only one week left of that) and our infant son nurses to sleep and we bedshare. My cycle was supposed to start this week and hasn't but I've been ravenous and moody like it should start (don't query, can't be pregnant because that requires sex.. which we haven't had since new baby. )
All that being said, I've fucking exhausted. I did take two nights off this week from cooking because I just couldn't operate anymore. I also took a nap with our infant this week which i honestly haven't done in a while because I just needed it. Tomorrow I have to manage an outdoor birthday party with both kids alone because he's coaching, plus I'm doing a baseball game with my son and a friend with his mom Sunday. I need a fucking break or else I feel like I will break. I'm sitting downstairs right now while he has both kids upstairs because I'm just exhausted and can't even make it up the stairs. He thinks my twice a week trips to the gym are enough but they aren't. I'm home all day with an infant, while trying to work, and then home with both kids after school for an hour or two until he gets home. And, even then, if baby isn't on me, I'm walking the neighborhood with both kids to tire the older one out.
I don't know how to explain to him how exhausted I am, especially now. I'm grateful for to be at home working and essentially saving us money from daycare but I don't get many breaks. Currently we're feuding because he thinks flying me down with both kids to my mom's house is a vacation but it isn't, in my mind. It'll be so hot and humid, my mom doesn't cook so I'll do all the cooking PLUS I'll have to share a bed with both kids as well as do nighttime routines for both alone (he does do nighttime for the 5 year old, luckily, but it's usually because I'm baby confined to our bed with our infant. )
TLDR: how do I get my husband to understand that working part time with an infant and managing a 5 year old is hard AF? How do I advocate successfully for more help without coming off like a bitch?

2023.06.03 03:19 HelMort How to anser to an islamic extremist?

I've written an article about the origins of Saint Christopher on my social media for my followers. Although I am an atheist, I am very passionate about history, culture, anthropology, and now more than ever, about religions and mythology.
This is the main part of the article that I'm putting in as a spoiler, just in case you want to read it to understand that I have not offended anybody or accused someone:
"In the world of art and religion, there exists a hidden connection between monotheism and paganism that may surprise you. Despite identifying as Christians, Muslims, or Jews, your traditions bear the influence of ancient pagan practices. Throughout history, monotheism has struggled to suppress paganism during its expansion. However, pagan religions held deep-rooted traditions intertwined with cultural and ethnic identities, akin to a modern passport. In ancient times, meeting someone new meant sharing not only your name and origin but also your chosen deity. Pagan gods represented specific cities, places, banners, and armies, reflecting personal and cultural identities. When monotheistic religions emerged, eradicating pagan customs proved challenging. Instead, Muslims, Jews, and Christians absorbed and reinterpreted pagan elements to align with their beliefs. Muslims incorporated local witchcraft through amulets like the Hamsa and Nazar, while Jews integrated ancient Mesopotamian deities into their practices. Christians transformed pagan deities into "saints," reinterpreting worship of local gods and goddesses as devotion to martyrs who fought for Christ. This led to unique figures in Catholicism and Orthodoxy, such as Saint George replacing the god Mithras, or female goddesses finding representation in icons as Holy Mary. One intriguing figure is #SaintChristopher, venerated in Orthodox and early Christian traditions. His iconography originated from a story during ancient Rome. The tale revolves around Reprebus, a man captured by Romans and forced into military service. Depicted as a colossal figure with a dog's head, Reprebus embodied prevailing beliefs. He later embraced Christianity, became a martyr, and is portrayed as a dog-headed man who repented, received baptism, and devoted himself to Christian service as a soldier saint. Observing the iconography of Saint Christopher today leaves a better impression of the amalgamation of paganism and monotheism. It becomes evident that the figure of Saint Christopher is a reinterpretation of the ancient Egyptian dog-headed god Anubis."

Anyway, here is the problem - an African guy wrote this aggressive comment. I took a look at his Facebook profile, and it's full of Muslim content. He's Nigerian, and in his bio, there's a mention of an Islamic orientation secondary school. I'm white European, but I have had many Nigerian friends in the past, and one of them warned me about people like him. He mentioned that they have many problems with Islamic terrorism, and many of these people look like "normal people" outside, but behind closed doors, they do crazy stuff. So, I don't know what to say or do. This is the complete comment:
"I read that you said when the monotheism emerged. Point of corrections, the original faith of humanity is pure monotheism(Islam), peganism and other religions were created after someone they follow as there hero or something they think it's God, see Judaism from Judah. Moses taught them Islam, Christianity from Christ, Jesus taught them Islam, and all other pegan religion alike, named after some heros and heros,. The first human according to the holy books worshiped only one god and did not part in witchcraft and the rest of magics , and when his descendants part with the devil and began to disbelief God keep sending prophets to them to guide them to his why and some believe and some refused to , and it continued like that when people disbelief God sent a Warner and a guider. And mind you Islam did not incorporate with any kind of magic, Islam a pure monotheism, and who ever incorporate with any type of witchcraft among the Muslims is not a believer he just answer name. Unlike the Jews who learned magic and even accused Solomon of using magic to rule , Solomon who was rightly guided by God and a prophet of god to humanity. Paganism have never been the belief of the first men , but people later come parting up with the devils and they teach them magic,. Don't write on what you don't know."
I haven't included the offensive words, menaces or other stuff written to me to avoid creating other aggressive reactions or risking getting banned from Reddit.

2023.06.03 03:16 mad_intuition DAE have a complete moron for a partner or is it just me?

We are going out of town tomorrow and my boyfriend, father of 16 month old son, is driving me insane asking me the dumbest fucking questions on earth when he knows I’m exhausted from cleaning/getting packed, getting house ready to leave, etc.
He just asked me if there is a hook in the car where he can hang his jacket….like no dumbass, it’s the only car in the fucking US without a hook. Also, go fucking look????! This was right after I told him to please get my suitcase out of the closet for me. He asks, “the blue one?” (It’s the only one in there). Earlier today he asks me if I knew the address of sons school to mail a check. I said no, and heard him huff and start calling and i’m like who are you calling? He’s like the school and i’m like just Google it……what the fuck! Am I over reacting?? Why can’t he figure out this shit himself??! 😩

2023.06.03 03:16 ThrowRAberryboba [20F] [22F] I just broke off my long time friendship with my childhood friend, and I need to know if it was a wrong choice?

I (20F) have known my friend Emi (22F) for 11 years since we were in school together. We’ve grown up together and literally been through so much and almost everything. Now we’re almost ending college/university and getting ready to start our post college lives and have a good career.
The only issue I had with Emi before was she wasn’t very consistent with things or punctual. She would flake often when she initiated plans or I did, as in she wouldn’t respond back and I see her on social media the next day.
I almost went no contact with her one time after we made plans to go to a park, I bought a park ticket and she bought her own. We live in Florida so just know Universal/Disney tickets can be expensive. We made plans, and the night before I call her she declines, texts what’s up. I ask what the plan tomorrow is she says the day of said plans she is going to brunch with her boyfriend… no apology or anything.
I’m not one to cut off a decade long friendship over one incident, so I let it go this time. I almost went no contact until she saw me in person and asked why I didn’t answer her texts or calls, and I went back on my no contact.
Then I got engaged to my now fiancé back in January on our 3rd anniversary. I had an engagement party and invited Emi, another friend, and family, and she just never responded to my text and never came. I wasn’t surprised, but I was also disappointed because I thought we had a heart felt talk.
That drew the line for me because we always talked about being each others maid of honors, and being life long friends til even our kids knew each other. Also I’m aware that she’s told me I’m her only friend since leaving high school and she’s kind of my most closest friend. I valued our friendship so much, but when something starts to hurt you I feel you have to let it go.
She used to reach out to me to spend time every once in a while, when things got bad at home with her parents or her boyfriend wasn’t treating her nice. Sometimes I do think about our good memories. I cherished the good parts of our friendship and growing up together. I feel maybe she’s outgrown me. But she still tries to reach out to me. I’m not sure what to say after everything that’s happened.
TLDR: Dropped my long time childhood friend due to her personal issue with punctuality, flakiness, and disrespect. Need advice if I made the right decision or not.

2023.06.03 03:15 thiccc_glasses New student intro!

Hi all!
Writing as someone who started WGU's Bachelor of Science, Cybersecurity and Information Assurance program on June 1!
I just wanted to introduce myself and also ask for any insight or experience you might want to share.
Background: I am someone in their late 40s making a pretty hard left, career-wise. I have spent the last 10 years as a professor and director of a university's journalism capstone program.
While I admittedly bring little to no meaningful tech background, I am focused. I tell my students how it took me 17 years to complete my undergrad degree, I completed my grad degree in 10 months while also working full-time.
With my background as a journalist and educator, I'm extremely detailed oriented, logical, articulate, organized, evidence based. I read books on critical and analytical thinking in my own time just to refine those skills. I say this all because I think what I what I lack in IT knowledge and experience, I do have some of the soft skills which seem to be also important.
I also have the next two and a half months to dedicate to nothing but school. I rented a place so I will have no distractions. I also only teach two classes per semester, so I will continue to have significant time to devote to this in the fall.
I purchased an Alienware m15 R7 laptop to meet school and professional needs (feedback welcome, comes tomorrow!):
Q1: Is there anything I should or should not do with a new machine before I fire it up and/or connect to the internet?
Admittedly, I don't exactly know what I want to do, or what to do. I plan on utilizing all of WGU's resources, including career development (as I urge my students to, and realize I am going to need this myself).
Q2: What do now know that you wish you knew when you were getting into the field/program?
In order to both protect myself professionally (my employer has no idea I'm doing this but I just renewed a two-year contract) and also because I'm making such drastic changes, I'm also creating new online profiles and accounts (emails, social, online identities). Any relationships I need to continue I'm sharing the new info with, but really starting fresh. I had closed all my personal accounts years ago, so I have a new email, Discord, Reddit, etc. (I joined the WGU Cybersecurity Discord and subreddit.)
Q3: What are good news or other resources you might suggest for someone green in the industry?
I've also found success just listening to pods that are beyond my knowledge or experience, but I passively pick up names, ideas, concepts, etc.
Q4: What is your work/study flow for time management and to-do lists (I use Sunsama), as well as note taking (specifically, does anyone use Roam)?
Looking forward to starting Intro to IT D322 on Monday.
Admittedly, I don't have much to offer here at this point. But maybe my questions can help others until I'm much further along and can help the next n00b.
Thanks in advance! -tg

2023.06.03 03:11 Unhappy-Donut-6276 [NEED HELP] Abused on Field Trip, Unsure What to Do

I'm 14, and I just got back from an 8th grade overnight field trip. Before the trip, we organized groups of four to stick together with and room with. I didn't get into a group because I'm not very popular and I don't have a friend group. I was assigned to a group of three kids (who hadn't been able to find a fourth member) who I didn't know very well. They were all in a friend group.
I didn't know these kids well, so I thought being with them would be okay. However, the kids in my group turned out to be horrible. They neglected me, ordered me around, stole my stuff, and borderline physically abused me. They made disturbing and violent "jokes" about beating me, trapping me in the hotel room, and even gang raping me (these comments were all for fun - to make each other laugh - and they did not actually intend to do these things, but it was still verbally abusive and very unsettling). They wouldn't let me walk around with them in public or sit with them at dinner, even though that was the school's policy for groups (to ensure order and safety). They made me sleep on the floor (crammed into the corner so I wouldn't take up space), and directed when I could shower and where I sat on the bus. I felt like a slave.
When I woke up the second morning, I was traumatized and miserable. Their treatment of me only worsened. When I got home, I had a panic attack. After I calmed down, I took a shower, then went straight up to my computer to write this and ask online for help.
I am thinking about complaining to the principal. The kids I was with all have bad track records at school and are close to getting severe consequences.
However, even though what the kids did was horrible, I do not think reporting them is a good idea. They all have horrible parents and bad home lives. None of them have many friends. Even if they were horrible to me, I do not think that they are bad people; I believe they are just misguided and abused. Like I said, they have horrible parents.
Also, I don't think they really understood how badly they were treating me. They are very rough, and they were constantly fighting with each other - sometimes horseplaying, sometimes seriously fighting. Throughout the trip, they continuously chose to put themselves (as individuals) first - for example, cutting each other in line. They enjoyed punching each other and calling each other profane names. I assume that their parents are not good role models and the kids have not been taught character.
Lastly, I know that revenge is never the answer. I will gain nothing out of reporting these kids. We graduate to high school in a couple weeks, so it's not like there's much of a risk of something like this happening again.
I do not know what to do about this. Should I complain to the principal? Tell the guidance counselor? Talk to my therapist? I have not talked to anyone about this, and I told my parents that I did not want to talk to them until I had asked someone anonymously. My parents are very worried that something much worse happened, like me being molested or physically beaten, but I am refusing to talk to them. I feel much more comfortable talking to people anonymously.
Though I am traumatized, I AM NOT UNSAFE. This experience has not made me suicidal or mentally unstable. I am physically and mentally okay. I do not feel threatened or scared.
Thank you so much for taking your time to read this.
DISCLAIMER: I have never used reddit; I am only posting here because I am in need of urgent help. I am sorry if this post is inappropriate for this subreddit. If it is inappropriate, I will take it down.

2023.06.03 03:08 Any-Association-4299 People on this sub need to grow up.

I realize that a lot of you on this sub are honestly 12, but when you grow up you’ll realize that the real world is not like middle/high school AT ALL. This is in response to the post about the Hylands and Lukasiaks relationship being forced. It is very much possible that Kelly could’ve been equally close with Melissa AND Christi before the show. She possibly could’ve liked them both for different reasons even if they weren’t necessarily close with each other. Christi and Kelly have both said Paige was the first one at the hospital when Clara was born that’s not something you do for someone you don’t like, lol. The same thing goes with Diane, yes she was close with Kelly but she was ALSO close with Christi. They were talking about how Diane helped Christi out a lot when she first had Clara on the podcast. I’m not sure how well they got along before the show but once it started Christi stated that her and melissa were much better friends than the show let on. Kelly and Christi also stated several times throughout the show that they were each others best friends because they could relate to each other.
As far as the kids it’s kind of weird to analyze the relationships of elementary /middle school kids that we barely saw on screen. However just like with there moms it’s possible that Paige, Maddie, AND Chloe were all best friends. They all had a trio, made videos, took pics of them constantly hanging out together. Chloe and Paige have possibly drifted apart now but that’s normal. There are people I was close with as a kid that I haven’t spoken to in a while. Nothing bad went on but life just happens. Chloe was/is close with Nia as was Paige. Chloe was close with Kendall and Mackenzie, and she’s always been really close with Brooke and so is Maddie.
What I’m trying to say is just because someone is close/friends with one person doesn’t mean they can’t be friends with someone else. Also, I know the whole show made it seem like Maddie and Chloe were mortal enemies, but evidence actually shows they really loved each other. All the girls did…
