2023.06.06 07:24 t8er100 Audi A8 Quattro or NA Miata?

Two cars I have been looking at recently are a 1999 Audi A8 Quattro and a 1993 Mazda Miata. I like both of them for different reasons but I’m split on which one I should put more effort into buying. The Quattro has 90k miles and has had two owners. It has also been recently inspected by an Audi dealership and everything supposedly looked good. The Miata has about 110k miles and looks pretty good, a few blemishes but nothing I’m worried about. It even comes with a matching hard top. I really like both cars and they are both the same price at $5000. I have a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria as well right now so this isn’t a matter of which one is more practical as an everyday vehicle or anything, just which would be the better deal and long term investment at $5000. Let me know what you all think.

A UBI under capitalism would just be used as an excuse to cut all social programs by the capitalists that own everything in the economy. Because they would still need worker insecurity to ensure that workers will still be forced to make there profits for them.
A UBI by it's self is not enough to ensure the rights of working people. Because the capitalist class still holds all the power and can make all the decisions in the economy that effects everyones lives because they own everything.
A UBI under a capitalist economy would have a constant antagonism between the owners of everything that don't want to pay for the UBI and everyone else that is dependent on the ubi to survive. And In end the owner class would win this struggle because they still hold the power over the economy.
We need a complete change in the economy from capitalism to socialism to ensure workers rights are protected. The working class should hold the power not the capitalist class.
Here's a few videos explaining the limits of UBI under capitalism
1.) https://youtu.be/WcLelEGYQGM
2.) https://youtu.be/EKFE6rVHyJQ
User B
If we got a $1000/mo uni my rent would probably go up 1000 right along with groceries and everything else and I'd find myself even more poor.
User C replying to User B
No lol that’s not how the world works
User B
Also you're right it's not I was being a bit hyperbolic for flair. However it is kind of the MO of capitalist to see that money as theirs already. If you think inflation is bad now . . .
I'm preeetty sure https://youtu.be/6t7h2VyEm4M
User D replying to User A
I love this subreddit, ubi in the short term would be kinda nice but even for this bandaid solution it has to be fought for, no shot the capitalist class will simply give in. For welfare programs like anything comparable to UBI to exist we must build a socialist society and strip oligarchs of their power.
OP still has lib brain and thinks if we just make demands and propose good ideas things will get done, thats not how the world works unfortunately.
User C replying to User D
I didn’t say we should just make demands and propose good ideas lol I was incredibly precise
Pathetic strawmanning - gtfo
User E
Thank you! I'm tired of posting this sort of counter-sentiment.
UBI (or alternative) is inevitable, but under capitalism it will be used as a kugel against that people who need it most.
I appreciate people's well intentioned optimism and passion about the subject, but we've got a lot of work to do before that happens.
User C replying to User E
So was the CTC used as a kugel?
You must be glad it ended and I assume you oppose its reinstatement for the same reason you oppose UBI?
Pretty indefensible position though considering how much the CTC slashed child poverty
User E replying to User C
Literally every mainstream UBI proposal has said that it will be implemented while slashing other parts of the social safety net.
And that's the IDEALISTIC version compared to what will actually be implemented.
What makes you think that these ghouls in office would do something good without radical pressure? Focus on organizing labor and building radical power.. not just wishing that people working for the billionaires will work for you because you have a good idea.
User C replying to User E
Link to those proposals?
User E replying to User C
Literally the poster child for bad UBI: https://www.vox.com/first-person/2019/12/19/21026925/andrew-yang-disability-policy
And every other capitalist pushing UBI.
Regardless, you are missing the forest from the trees. Meaningful change isn't going to happen via "voting right" in federal elections or coming up with "really good policy ideas". It's going to happen via direct action, and a militant labor movement. Making billionaires and politicians afraid.
We need to focus on building labor power, and once we achieve that then we can get everyone what they need.
A UBI that is implemented before that happens will be a bad faith poison pill.
User F replying to User A
Is it really fair to use your mod powers to push your perspective to the top
User G replying to User A
I have always thought UBI is just a necessary stepping stone, one that could allow the working class enough room to breathe and think to organize and devise a better system. To take the pressure off people just enough to hopefully educate and be educated in order to critically reimagine our socioeconomic system. I never assumed UBI was thought to be a solution or end goal. Personally I'm a proponent of resource based economy, though socialism can be another helpful stepping stone. What are your thoughts on UBI in this context?
User H replying to User G
It's a cute idea but you already said why it will never happen. It's a necessary stepping stone to empower the working class.
User G replying to User H
Yeah clearly that's why it hasn't happened so far, aside from small trials (like the city of Stockton, CA). I'm not (usually) a doomer but I don't smoke hopium either... Never say never. I think it's great that more people are interested in unionizing and are in general gaining more class consciousness, I would really like to see more people spreading the idea of transitioning businesses to worker owned co-ops.
User H replying to User G
This is the thing though. In order for workers to gain meaningful power capitalists must loose it. This is just how power dynamics work. Workers gaining power by definition means an economic revolution will need to happen. A meaningful UBI cannot exist under capitalism because without coercion capitalism just doesn't work.
User A replying to User G
Yea I don't disagree with that assessment i only wanted to point out that UBI under capitalism has limits and shouldn't be an end goal.
User C replying to User A
Nobody ever said it was an end goal.
Quit fighting ghosts
User C replying to User A
MLK would disagree with you and it’s outrageous that you felt compelled to reply as a mod and pin this response
Couldn’t hack it in the comments as a regular user smh
User A replying to User C
Also don't miss use the report button this comment isn't "trolling"
User C replying to User A
You’re misusing mod abilities so… 🤷
User A replying to User C
No it isn't outrageous to make a comment explaining that UBI under capitalism won't work and also sharing sources of information about the topic don't know why that bothers you.
Also MLK was a socialist that though "capitalism outlived it's usefulness" so no he wouldn't have disagreed
User C replying to User A
MLK supported the guaranteed income. He supported separating pay from work and he would support UBI now.
Communism forgets that life is individual. Capitalism forgets that life is social, and the Kingdom of Brotherhood is found neither in the thesis of Communism nor the antithesis of capitalism but in a higher synthesis. - MLK
User A replying to User C
I never said MLK was a Communist only that he thought capitalism need to go I also never claimed he didn't support UBI.
I'm only trying to explain that UBI under capitalism won't solve all our problems and without changing who holds power In the economy it's not going to work
User C replying to User A
You’re too mired in “isms”
We need concrete policies. Not just 'isms.'
UBI is a concrete policy that will unequivocally help and create a more egalitarian society.
So is universal healthcare.
Medical debt cancellation is also necessary.
So is free public college.
And the full cancellation of student debt.
We need extensive housing reform, including (but not limited to) the banning of corporate & international ownership of residential properties, a creation of a pathway of ownership for current rental tenants (including a way to get equity out of the years of rent already paid), banning the practice of individual investors hoarding property, etc.
If you frame everything as an 'ism' then it's too easy for people to disagree or dismiss what you're saying, and too hard for others to determine exactly what policies you're proposing.
We must be clear and concise in our demands, and demand actionable policies that legislators can implement.
User H replying to User C
You're absolutely right but you fail to understand all of this will never happen in an economy where a capitalist class holds the power. They won't let it happen. Why would they? You are taking money from their pockets and removing the power they have over their workers. You don't understand that in order to get all of this capitalists will need to loose their power over our lives. You forget the cruelty is the actual point.
Ubi is a concrete policy but you provide no concrete methodology to get those policies. I don't think there is a methodology that exists while capitalists push the buttons.
User C replying to User H [Removed Comment]

User H replying to User C
You really don't get it. You think the working class are the only ones capable of violence. You forget to remember that as throughout history, the established state with a monopoly on legal use of force will use that force to maintain that state. You are advocating for systemic changes but you are unwilling to do the hard part to bring those changes about. That's why they'll never actually happen.
User C replying to User H [Removed Comment]

User H replying to User C
The hard part is electoral reform and winning elections and implementing these policies
No, the hard part is going to be when the capitalists come to take back what you stole if they even let you ever have it in the first place.
You have a fundamental misunderstanding of my position. All of the policies you advocate for I want. My position is that these policies are utopian under our current economic system and that systemic change of that system is not possible without workers gaining power over capitalists. I also don't think they'll just give us that power. The cruelty of capitalism is the point.
Get real lol

While walking around Waterfront Park and the promenade, you’ll experience incredible views of the skyscrapers and Elliot Bay. Visiting the Miner's Landing refurbished 1890s Gold Rush pier 57 will not be complete without riding the Seattle Great Wheel or enjoying plenty of family-friendly activities and food options. If you like sea life, visiting the Seattle Aquarium is a must. The aquarium features sea animals, marine exhibits, and interactive displays, focusing on Pacific Northwest with a planned renovation to make it even bigger in the future. They even let you gently touch some of the animals.
Number 9: Museum of Pop Culture The Museum of Pop Culture, located in Seattle Center, an area dating back to the 1962 World's Fair, is a non-profit museum celebrating the creative art of science fiction, fantasy, film, and music. Visit the world's most extensive collection of artifacts from Seattle's greatest musicians and bands, like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Jimi Hendrix, or admire memorabilia from one of the most iconic movies, like Star Wars and Matrix or Terminator. You can even try playing different instruments and sneak into the studio to record your own song. The museum offers endless possibilities. Did you know that this museum was founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2000 as the Experience Music Project? It was designed by renowned Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, who is famous for creating Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA, Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Dancing house in Prague, and many others. Of course, there are other fascinating museums to discover in Seattle.
Number 8: Space Needle If you like to explore the city from a different angle, visit Space Needle. Designated as a historic landmark in Seattle, the Space Needle is a 605 feet or 184 m observation deck and attraction presenting a scenic 360-degree view of the city. Enjoy glass benches leaning over the tilting glass. Don't forget to experience the city from above on a revolving glass floor, the first and the only one in the world. There are other observation decks in Seattle. Check our travel guide for more suggestions. By the way, our mobile-friendly travel guide covers the top 20 things to do in Seattle and things to know before you visit, including maps, opening hours, links to buy tickets, itinerary suggestions, and other information.
Number 7: Companies from Seattle Seattle is home to many Fortune 500 companies, like Microsoft and Boeing. Number 6: Woodland Park Zoo The Woodland Park Zoo, founded in 1899, is a one-of-a-kind zoological experience featuring plenty of rare animals and endangered species. It offers Washington's highest number of animals representing more than 250 species, and it received several Best National Exhibit awards. Walk around 92 acres of land occupied by exhibits, parks, playgrounds, and other spaces. Over 1 million tourists visit the zoo every year, especially drawn to its mission to wildlife conservation.
Number 5: Gas Works Park at Lake Union Built on on the grounds of a former gasification plant from the early 20th Century, the city bought the site and transformed into a public park in 1975. Gas Works Park is an internationally-acclaimed project of American landscape artist Richard Haag, who gained numerous recognition for his work in the park. Gas Works still incorporates elements of the former plantation. Climb Kite Hill to get a better view of the plant and its surroundings. Check our travel guide for more information. Of course, there are plenty of other parks and beach areas in Seattle and its surroundings worth exploring. By the way, the park is set on Lake Union, a glacier lake dug by the Vashon glacier 12,000 years ago, now a significant part of the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Here, you can rent a boat, go sailing, paddleboarding, or explore the attractions on the Southern part of the lake. You can even embark on a Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop trail that takes you around the lake.
Number 4: Pioneer Square Pioneer Square, the city's oldest neighborhood, is a historical community in southern Seattle, where the founders settled in 1852. Since the area's early-day structure was primarily wooden, Pioneer Square was almost all destroyed in the 1889 Great Seattle Fire. Preserving its touch of its 19th-century Richardsonian Romanesque architecture, the structures of most buildings in Pioneer Square are now made of old bricks and stones. Find more about this neighborhood's history by joining the Beneath the Streets underground tours or inside the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Pioneer Square is full of trendy bars and galleries. By the way, visit Smith Tower, one of the world's first skyscrapers, where you can enjoy a scenic open-air view of the city. Number 3: Chihuly Garden and Glass Seattle is a glass art center, globally recognized as a glassblowing hub. The Chihuly is an artistic collection of the work of world-renowned American glass artist Dale Chihuly. Visit Chihuly Garden and Glass, located just below the Space Needle in Seattle Center, one of his permanent exhibits in the U.S. Launched in May 2012, the project boasts a garden, the centerpiece glasshouse, eight galleries, and a theater. The Glasshouse is an iconic 40-foot-tall structure made of glass and steel and is one of the artist's largest suspended works. You can see Chihuly's glassblowing work, techniques, and history in a movie theatre, also a place for various community gatherings and educational workshops.
Number 2: Water transportation What better way to travel and experience Seattle's surroundings than by riding one of the city's efficient water transportation, like King County Water Taxi or Seattle-Bainbridge Ferry, which takes you on a 35-minute ride from Seattle to Bainbridge Island? The exciting ferry ride offers a breathtaking view of the city skyline and good food and drinks selections from its café. Don't miss a chance to embark on a cruise tour, sail around the harbor, and enjoy spectacular views of Elliot Bay and the beautiful Seattle skyline from the water.
Number 1: Pike Place Market Serving for more than a century, the Pike Place Market is one of the oldest operating public markets in the US. Branded as the "soul of the city," it has been brought to life and color by local farmers, fishmongers, merchants, antique shops, and its 10 million visitors annually. The century-old market attraction is known for its fish market, with a tradition of throwing fish, which started out as a prank and became a tradition since people enjoyed the show. Explore the market to try some of Seattle’s authentic food options or just to buy beautiful flowers as the locals do. Visit the upper and lower Post Alley, with plenty of bars and restaurants that got its name after the former Post-Intelligencer newspaper. Don't skip the famous Gum Wall right under Pike Market Place. We wish you an amazing trip to Seattle.

2023.06.06 07:07 heavenorla Things I think the game should improve!

After more than 600 hours played, I have some suggestions for this game that I had so fun but now I'm almost quitting.
1 - make epic espers easier to obtain. In almost every gacha game, 4 stars characters are guaranteed with 10 pulls, why not in Dislyte too? F2p players NEED wish stones, it should help a lot.
2 - if don't change the pull rate for epic espers, give they more wish stones drop, at least 5. Almost every new character is needing a ressonance, f2p players are certainly suffering.
3 - fix Dj mode. As a veteran player, I don't really see reasons to spend time playing this mode. There's no good rewards to encourage players to play this. I suggest a rank with the club members, and rewards like elemental disc fragments, sperimon fragments and golden records for those who have the best scores (top 4).
4 - improve the relics drop. I just spended 900 memo chips in cronos 15 and got nothing useful. This is just boring and exhaustive.
5 - make a better music player. We already have the shortcuts function, why don't put a music player in it? Because, even if we choose a song on Boon Boon, when we enter a new game mode like history phases etc, the music changes. It would be fun if we can choose a song and listen to it everywhere in the game.
6 - make gold easier and quick to get. We need gold to almost everything in this game, but unfortunately when we get some, it disappears real quick. I suggest a mini game where we build a city and the houses give gold. The more houses you build, more gold you receive. (I'm dreaming, I know, but it's free).
7 - memo chips should not br consumed if the blitz fail.
I know some of you guys will not agree but remember, this is just my opinion.

2023.06.06 06:48 dweacy_an I want to attend NCT DoJaeJung Fancon

I'm currently obsessed with dojaejung. I really want to attend their fancon. Hindi talaga ako ng fan nct overall, I mean I just randomly listen their song. So I know them as a group with many members. And thats the reason why I don't want to stan them, but this subunit 🥹🥹It makes me want to know them all.
I love their album, songs, voice and visual. The SONGS is top tier, i really like the vibes of every song. Tapos may perfume talaga silang ni create. Which is very very unique.
and Jungwooo he is such a cute handsome. At first Im kinda bothered in his hairstyle. Then wala ang cute cute talaga. Though my bias now is Doyoung because of his voicee ughhh. Jungwoo is my wrecker, his voice is so angelic ( hindi ko alam na sa kanya yung bridge part sa Boss which i really really like that part just give it give it) And Jaehyun is like the main main visual of nct. an i think they are all in vocal position?
There's gonna be fancon and I really want to attend but I don't have enough money. Dahil gusto ko rin umattend ng con ng txt. Im really torn between two . So I just wanna share.

2023.06.06 06:33 mohamidyi Favourite Online Indie Music Communities/ Music Blogs To Write For?

TLDR:
  1. What are some active indie music sharing communities online on any platform? Want to connect to other music lovers?
  2. Are indie music blogs still a thing? Would love to get back into volunteer music reviewing. I have 6 years experience writing/editing sites.
I've been out of the online music curation space for a few years, although I used to be Senior Editor of a few music blogs for years. I'm looking to get back into communities that share playlists, song reviews, and tracks that they love. I might be mistaken, but are music blogs even still a thing? Or has the scene moved onto other methods of music exploration, like tiktok?Community can be on any social media site that has active groups.
Also, if you can recommend any active music blogs that still accept amateur, volunteer writers that'd be amazing. My top choice to get back into that sphere of writing (Tiny Mix Tapes) has ended and in my hiatus from the online music world I didn't notice. Makes me feel like I have no idea how indie music outreach happens anymore.
For the record, here is a link to one of the sites I edited for that's still up (but not active), including articles and playlists. I tend to write about the intersection of trauma, healing and sexy dark pop.
Thank you for any help <3

2023.06.06 06:32 Adityabook6027 The Textile Reader Book.

The Textile Reader is a book that focuses on textiles as a distinct cultural practice and an area of academic research. It serves as an introduction to the critical and creative aspects of exploring textiles. In its second edition, the book brings together various types of content, including lectures, essays, academic articles, fiction, and poetry. It also includes translated articles appearing in English for the first time, showcasing the diverse voices shaping textile studies today. The content is organized around themes such as touch, memory, structure, politics, production, and a new section on community. The revised edition features contributions from 22 new authors, including Maria Fusco, Ursula le Guin, Elaine Igoe, Faith Ringgold, and T'ai Smith. The editor, Jessica Hemmings, provides extended introductions and annotated suggestions for further reading, making this edition an invaluable resource for students studying textiles, craft, and material culture.

2023.06.06 06:29 Sadie1001 One of my novels is historical (native american history) - how do I avoid ignorance?

I'm writing a novel, one of many. It's about an egyptian american woman (artist, history major, survivalist, explorer) in the 21st century finding a photo of a Navajo man from the early 1900s. When she touches the paper, it takes her back to that time. I'm still building and planning everything but I want to avoid ignorance. I research heavily on both the tribe, other tribes, and how one would write something like this. My top priority is to portray the history accurately and respectfully. Still, sometimes there's incorrect or outdated information on the internet so I figured I would try this too lol
- How would you write dialogue? Considering the setting. I know English started to..replace the Navajo language in the late 1800s to early 1900s. I wonder how it sounded? Most things I've read make them sound like cavemen...it rubs me the wrong way but I don't know, did it sound like that??
- Names. Every single novel I've come across has the same cliches. "Red Horse", "Dog Tooth", "Bird Song"...etc. I know of Sitting Bull and his family who have names like this. So I know it's not made up crap lol most likely their native name translated to english but is it offensive to make up and write? How would you name your native characters?
- Interactions. I know there was obviously a lot of hostility between native americans and white people. Still is to this day honestly in some places. I know of the forced marches, haircuts, assimilations in general, assaults....it is fiction so I need drama but I don't want to make stuff up. I would prefer to use stuff that really happened. However I struggle to find things in my research.. :/
- I'm avoiding the whole "white savior" trope. My main character is egyptian american but white passing and that plays a role into the story. I have the ending planned for this but how can I avoid this in the middle of the story? Or can I use it to build on her character development??
Anything else you feel I have missed, please feel free to add!! Thank you! :)
