2023.05.28 04:41 ReasonableSpring8187 If House Manderley had its own version of the Sea Snack
Lets look at the state of House Velaryon was in When Corlys started his carer they had a lot of prestige due to there connection to House Targaryen but lets at there economic state of House Velaryon they controlled a modest island with a few villages and there seat of Castle Driftmark was damp, often flooded and dark with salt stains.
Through his trading voyage Corlys turned all that around making the the Velaryon's the wealthiest house in the realm wealthier even than the Lannister. He built a new grander marble castle called Hightide and turned the villages of Driftmark into towns as he built new towns.
Lets look at House Manderly the wealthiest Stark vassals who control one of just five cites in the realm.
So lets say Wyman had a younger brother Sir William Manderley. On his fifth and tenth name day he tells his father that he will be six and ten in a year which in Westeros is legally a man and he has read about Corlys Velaryon and means to outdo him and fells that given the Manderly wealth he can do just that. He ask his father to build tweenty merchant ships.
- The Merrling King - flagship
- The Lord Edwly - after the Manderley's leggie Lord Edwyl Stark
- The King Aegon - as Aegon the fifth he died that same year, 259 A.C at Summerhall
- The Queen Betha - after the late Queen Betha Blackwood
- One after his Lord father. I don't know the name of Wyman and it this timeline Williams father.
- The White Harbour - some ships are just named after places.
- The Winterfell
- The Lady Marna - after Lady Marna Stark
- A ship after Sir Wilma's mother- name unknown
- The Lord Rickard - After the heir to the North
The next ten names keep in line more with personal taste than patriotism
- The Adventurer
- The Golden Maiden -
- The Trader
- The Merchant
- The Shark
- The Sea Knight
- The Beauty
- The Sapphire
- The Other Slayer- because Sir William likes to read a lot of history and mythology.
Over the years Sir William leads a number of trade voyages to the far east gaining vast wealth for House Manderley. His father the Lord of White Harbour funds the voyages and his brother Lord Wyman after him so the profits are theirs but Sir William gets a percentage.
However the profits are so great that over the years the Manderley taxes to Winterfell and Kingslanding ALONE are enough to make the Stark's and Targaryen's wealthier than the Lannister's. While the Manderlys are the wealthiest family west of the Bone Mountains a level of that has not existed outside Yi Ti scenes the fall or Valyria. White Harbour becomes the most opulent city west of the Bone Mountains even as all the poor in the Manderley lands are lifted out of poverty. People form all over the world flock to White Harbour making it larger than Lanistport but still smaller than Oldtown.
Now that the Stark's and Targaryen's are both wealthier than the Lannister's what do they do with all this gold and how dose this affect the rebellion?

2023.05.28 04:39 Assturbation Ranking all phase 4 Marvel movies (correcting for recency and other biases)? [Spoilers maybe]
So even though I watched Guardians 3 last night, I'm going to try and be as objective about the parameters i'm setting up for how to rank and rate these movies. Here they are: Rank and rate all. phase 4 movies as if you split into many alternate timelines and all 8ish of you watch each movie at the same time, write it on a piece of paper, and merge all realities into one and read what was written. Here it is:
- Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Attack of the Clones - 93% (First 4/5ths were 97%)
- Spider-man: No Way Home - 90% (Some lulls and predictable or overly choreographed aspects)
- Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness - 84% (Despite serious clunky story aspects, the cinematography and unique visuals and Wanda as a villain was awesome)
- Ant-man Quantumania - 83% (This is controversial. Too much of it was disney/kid-ified. Would've like some more consistenty serious elements. Still very fun concepts and visuals (i'm a sucker for tastefully thought out and complex, detailed set-design and vfx, except for the city Khan designed was a little too busy and overwrought)
- Shang-Chi/Wakanda- 80% (Story was interesting, certain chracters were lifeless and un-interesting, was ok)
- The Eternals - 73% (Too many charcters with not enough fleshing out of characters, some aspects were grandiose and epic but couldn't quite pay off in a satisfying way, had a ton of potential and q unique approach)
- Black Widow - 66% (Holy boring.. this would've fit a lot better in phase 2 of Marvel somewhere, it's just way too subdued and absent of action and stakes, too bland for being in phase 4)
- Thor: Love & Thunder - 55% (They really dropped the ball on this one. I don't even know where to begin. They made so many situations so silly that it becomes a shell of itself. There's no badassery in this. At least not well-earned badassery. It's got mixed themes. The Zeuss was overly douchey and not that funny. Just ridiculous. Still some elements like the god killer that could've been awesome.)
IN CONCLUSION: Whatever formula and style that went into Guardians 3, the entire time I was like, this doesn't even feel like some addendum to the MCU stack.. this feels like it's own entire separate entity that stands on it's own legs and knows how to really humanize or anthropromorphize so many touching themes and interesting dynamics. It was a GUARDIANS franchize film that happened to contain MCU characters. Not the other way around. And that's how it should be in most cases.
Guardians are the most real for having flaws on full display. Guardians wasn't trying to be overtly political, while also offering a message that is paletable by the masses. It hit the pocket of what movies the fans truly seem to want to see. It hopefully can be a testament to how MCU can still be a powerhouse if they make a movie that is truly good for the fans rather than for the executives or to appease the activists or to have the broadest appeal.
!!!SPOILER MOMENT: My only issue was the blatant deus ex machina trope where Adam saves Quill in such a preditably boring way. Golden Adam could've had a more interesting arc other than being a dimwit who hates being under the thumb of his mother and is a bumbling fuck up. Also the rainbow suits they wore were a bit tacky (not for any anti-flag reasons.. I just happen to thing loud primary colors used for the sake of making things colorfgul look corny in contrast to a serious movie or when attached to a serious plot device or a functional situation) its just a kid-ified contrivance, but not too bad. Also the Spy Kids thumb skin suits that were worn in the organic headquarters was a bit over-the-top, but again, i can forgive those elements as everything else was on point. The aesthetic choices were so wild and otherworldly, the concept of an alter-earth was super refreshing. The reason that the villain decided to make an earth seem slightly contrived as he explained in a single sentence that he loved earth music and the spirit of humans and for that reason alone he wants to make an entire planet look and feel like Earth but with Earth-animal hybrids? I think there could've been a more convincing or deeeply personal reason why this guy spent quadrillions of dollars to create this alter-earth, but perhaps thats what the comics stated.
Edit: Also, this movie had some of the coolest and most engaging shots, angles, lighting, and attention to detail. In alter-earth down to the sodas, the picture frames, the kids toys, the clothing, etc. It's an approximation of Earth-like stuff which makes it feel uncanny and strange. They killed the alter-Earth stuff. So intriguing.

2023.05.28 04:27 CDocwra A Tale of Two Moddies: TNO in The Campaign Trail
Something that I’ve really enjoyed on this subreddit recently has been the new wave of longform mod analysis. A shoutout goes to an excellent analysis of the sub’s current dead horse, 1948: IW by
u/Tom1923. Whenever the question is asked “What is the worst mod on the mod loader” there’s a few often given answers. 2000N, which is perfectly functional, interesting and, for its sins, does have something to say. No, that’s not the worst mod. What about 1948: IW? Well I’m not touching that with a ten foot pole. No, the worst mods, in my opinion, are the TNO duology.
Now before I go any further I want to actually give a shout out to the devs behind the TNO mods because they quite clearly love the source material, they made two mods out of it after all, and they very clearly have interesting ideas they want to convey. The issues with TNO 64 and TNO 68 are not, really, super bad issues. Compared to recent controversies there’s no racism, there’s no stupidly broken coding and there’s no issues with the soundtrack. Instead they’re just, frankly, a bit naff.
Part 1: The Last Days of Europe To begin, let's talk about TNO a bit to give some context and also to reveal a bit of why the mods fall flat, particularly when compared to the source material. The two TNO mods are set in the world of the Hearts of Iron IV mod: ‘The New Order: The Last Days of Europe’. The mod puts the player in a world where Nazi Germany won World War Two. The details of how it won are not the point of the mod but instead the mod deconstructs what the victory of the most evil and vile ideology in the history of humankind would mean for the rest of the world. For the United States, which is what’s most important for understanding the two mods we’re talking about, this is represented in the destruction of the American Party system as the American people grapple with the fundamental question on whether or not the world of the day demands the utter destruction of politics as normal. This dynamic is brought to bear in the mod through the conflict between the Republican-Democrats (RDs) and the National Progressive Party(NPP).
The RDs are a big tent establishmentarian party who believe in slow and steady reform and the protection of the American Sphere of Influence. The NPP are an even bigger tent party who believe in anti-establishment politics, uniting the radical progressives and dixiecrats into one party, who want to avenge the American defeat in World War Two and bring the full might of the American state to bear against America’s enemies, be they Nazis, Poverty, Racism, or ‘Big Government Tyranny’.
Part 2: On the Railroad So the first of the two mods is 1964 TNO and is, in my opinion, probably the worst individual mod on the mod loader. Again, no offence to the modmakers who, particularly in the writing department, have clearly put a lot of effort in but it commits what is, in my opinion, the single biggest cardinal sin of any TCT scenario, railroading.
This is, admittedly, something that the community has only recently gotten really good at avoiding. Many classic scenarios, including many by Dan Bryan himself, are slowly being re-evaluated and being judged a bit, deservedly, harsher today because the paths to victory are often very narrow or the election results are all really similar. Some of the best mods in recent months have been ones that have allowed the player a lot of space to make their own path to victory and the total spectrum of results have been incredibly wide. In this regard, 1964 TNO completely falls flat.
On top of that the scenario has a massive problem with railroading, which obviously links to the issue of the narrow breadth of results. No matter what you do the electoral map is always going to look really similar and those similarities are, frankly, bizarre. Without a George Wallace side being added it's technically a bit difficult to definitively say what the exact campaign of Wallace in this mod is but, basing his campaign on what information we are given in the LBJ side and what information we get from TNO itself, Wallace runs a very unabashedly racist and sectarian campaign. In light of this, the fact that Wallace, before the scandals around the Nixon administration even come out, sits as the frontrunner in the race, even if by a narrow margin, is nonsensical. This is not particularly reflective of TNO where Wallace is the hardest candidate to elect in 1964 and instead is a slightly baffling decision on the part of the mod makers. It is entirely possible, within the confines of the mod, to have the entire progressive/northern faction of the NPP to defect over to the player but for Wallace to still sweep the midwest and this brings me onto the next topic.
The way the scenario is set up, with the player able to so easily win over many of the big players in the NPP, only makes it more confusing to new players and TNO veterans. The Party system of TNO is already one of the more convoluted and contrived areas of TNO’s lore and so to add in the additional complication of people criss crossing over the party system every question only raises the question of what the hell even is the party system.
These are the big problems with 1964 TNO, the scenario stretches the issues existing in the source material to breaking point by only further complicating the already convoluted party system and the actual gameplay loop leaves the player feeling like they are having no impact on the election whatsoever in spite of the fact that, according to the information they’re being given, they should be doing better than they are.
To give some credit alongside all the critiques I do want to actually commend the way some of the questions are set up. Touching on issues like the war in Guyana, the Nazi victory in the Space Race and the South African War are nice ways of showing off some defining moments of TNO in TCT. The problem is that they are often dropped in with little context and the context is what is so important. The reason TNO is so compelling is because you can see the effect that the Nazi victory has had across the world. Every aspect of society across the world is touched and changed and it really makes the world feel alive and interconnected. 1964 TNO, on the other hand, feels stale on a second playthrough and the neglect of important information and some interesting features of TNO like the Organisation of Free Nations (the NATO analogue) is a real shame.
Part 3: America’s First Jewish President I have titled the section of this ramble on 1968 TNO ‘America’s First Jewish President’ because it is a piece of writing from this mod that really sticks in my mind. Goldwater, for the avoidance of any doubt, was not Jewish. He had, fairly substantial, Jewish ancestry but only rarely identified himself as Jewish and in those instances, as far as I can tell, usually only did so in order to make light of the fact that a western conservative Republican had such unexpectedly strong Jewish roots. I bring all this up because I used to be a member of the TNO dev team and before then was a member of the community. This mod completely unironically ruined Barry Goldwater discourse in the TNO community when it came out.
1968 TNO came out not long into TNO’s existence and it was a really cool thing to see come along and celebrate the mod’s world and unique characters. It was, therefore, understandable that it had a lot of influence. What was less understandable was the fact that a new wave of Goldwater stans were calling him, and this is a direct quote, the “red, white and blue Jew.”
Now, have I made an essay length rant on the TNO mods entirely to talk about that time a piece of unfortunate writing in a TCT mod prompted a community to begin stanning a deeply problematic man with a record of doctrinaire conservatism as a patriotic hero of the Jewish community? No, but also that’s probably a pretty big reason why these mods have stuck in my mind.
I think that piece of unfortunate writing also sums up the mod as a whole. Unlike 1964 the actual gameplay is not bad at all and the coding seems to me, a non-coding pleb, to be solid. It's just that the writing is so sure of itself and declaratory in a way that it does not in any way need to be. Things like calling the three leading members of the Progressive wing of the NPP the ‘troika’. Things like calling Eugene McCarthy a “some sorta leftist Goldwater”. Stuff that just sort of shows that the mod makers really loved TNO and really loved an idea of a TNO mod but just did not want to spend time fleshing it out.
One sentence questions lead to one sentence answers and that’s really the big flaw of the mod, in my view. It introduces the player to perhaps one of the most interesting scenarios TNO can produce. The aftermath of the assassination of President RFK and Vice President Humphrey has led to a nation divided between the most doctrinaire of conservatives and a Democratic Socialist and each has a perfectly reasonable chance of winning. It's a fascinating contest that you will never see anywhere else and instead of really diving into what that means for America or how this situation came about the mod just moves along in a sort of “nothing to see here” fashion. Instead of really digging into the fact that a Socialist and Academic has a real shot at the Presidency and exploring that idea throughout the campaign the mod instead goes “Huh, that’s neat isn’t it, and hey here’s this other thing…”
To call it immature writing sounds harsh but I think that describes it in a very literal sense. The writing hasn’t matured, the situation hasn’t matured. Instead of really digging into the scenario instead it feels like the whole mod is on a speedrun to get through things that could happen in this scenario as quickly as possible. It's a bunch of ideas thrown at a wall and then it puts up a new wall to throw new things at. Sometimes the walls actually look interesting and it sure is impressive that someone put up all these walls but if you actually spent time decorating them you’d have a work of art and not a dishevelled mess. I may be stretching the metaphor.
Part 4: The Laster Days of Europe Like many I’ve been delighted by the golden age of TCT mods and one of the latest announcements of the golden age has been 1972 TCT which pits Neo-Nazi Francis Yockey against the most unobjectionable man alive George Romney. In true TNO mod fashion it exists completely separate from the other two mods already on the loader (which is probably confusing to hell to people outside TNO) and risks repeating all the many failings of 1964 TNO, 1968 TNO and recent controversies like 1948: IW. This is less a warning and more just a look back at truly two of the mods of all time and asking where they’ve fallen, why I think they stand out as some of the weakest mods of all time and venting my frustration about one tiny line from a TCT mod that has lived rent free in my head for longer than I care to admit.

2023.05.28 04:17 erpasd Anything to improve on this build? (gaming/ DL)
After some research I landed on this build:
PCPartPicker Part List I was wondering if there's something clearly wrong/bad or that could be improved. Some additional info:
- I'll use the PC primarily for gaming (mostly ARPGs Diablo4, POE, Last Epoch and possibly some AAA title).
- I plan to have a second OS (linux) to be able to do some light coding and test code that requires CUDA (e.g., pytorch and huggingface) hence the 2 HD.
- This is will the first PC i'll assemble myself!!
- I'd like the PC to be as quiet as possible
Some open questions I still have: * OS, win10 or win11? are there any substantial differences? * cooling, I'd like the pc to be quiet but I'm afraid of messing up installing a liquid cooler, what's your recommendation?
Any input or suggestion are more than welcome! thanks for your help :)

2023.05.28 03:41 palocci The Brazilian "Secular Stagnation" and what Lula can do about it
| Introduction Here's another effortpost on Brazil! This time I'll be talking about why the Brazilian economy stagnated, and what we can expect from Lula in terms of economic policy (I've talked about this in the past but now I'll go into more detail). Between 1920 and 1980, Brazil was a clear economic success story. For 60 years, our GDP grew at an average of 4% a year. This 'golden age' ended in a hyperinflation crisis, which made the 1980s become known as a 'lost decade', and since its resolution in 1994 with the Plano Real, our economy has experienced minimal growth: from 1980 to 2020, the average GDP growth rate was only 0.7%. Evolution of the Brazilian per capita product, at 2010 prices, from 1900 to 2021. The scale of the graph is logarithmic in base 2. In this post, I'll try to explain the reasons for Brazil's low growth in the last four decades and what Lula's plans are to address them. The debate Before delving into the actual causes of the "semi-stagnation", I would like to explain the economic debate in Brazil. This debate revolves around two major groups of economists: the "developmentalists" and the "liberals." The term "developmentalism" may be unfamiliar to many people here, but it is very present in Latin America. A decent explanation for it could be "dirigisme with Latam characteristics." In short, liberalism in this context is associated with economic orthodoxy and a pro-market orientation in economic policy, while developmentalism leans towards economic heterodoxy and advocates for direct state interference in the economy. This debate is, in theory, separate from the traditional right versus left political divide, as we have had governments from both ends of the political spectrum adopting policies aligned with either school of thought. For instance, Lula I (2003-2007) represented a left-wing liberal government, while Geisel (1974-1979) presided over a right-wing developmentalist government. However, in practice, liberalism is associated with the right-wing while developmentalism is associated with the left-wing. One area of major divergence between those two groups is full employment. Liberals argue that the Brazilian economy generally operates at full employment, which means that there are well-defined supply-side limits and restrictions in the economy, whereas developmentalists believe it tends to operate below that level. This implies that the economy's natural state is one of perpetual aggregate demand deficiency, and thus the government could just increase spending to mobilize idle production factors and stimulate economic growth. Furthermore, liberals typically view direct state intervention in the economy with distrust, opposing increased public investments in infrastructure and most forms of industrial policy. Their preference generally leans towards reducing government spending and relying on a 'crowding in' effect, together with supply-side reforms. Conversely, developmentalists perceive state intervention as a necessity to stimulate the economy, favoring a robust industrial policy and increased public investments. Those are significant oversimplifications, and many economists do not align themselves with either group. In any case, I would say this categorization reasonably represents the current debate. It's a tradition in Brazil to divide ministries between liberals and developmentalists to ensure a balance between the two. The current Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, believes in a middle ground approach, with some of his secretaries (e.g., Guilherme Mello) leaning more towards developmentalism, while others (e.g., Bernard Appy) lean more towards liberalism. Planning Minister Simone Tebet and Industry and Commerce Minister Geraldo Alckmin are firmly in the liberal camp. However, due to the nature of his ministry, Geraldo Alckmin will probably concede more to developmentalist policies (as he's already doing). Aloizio Mercadante, the President of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), is considered the leader of the developmentalist branch of the government, along with Workers' Party President Gleisi Hoffmann (some people jokingly refer to her as the main opposition to Fernando Haddad and the 'Twitter Shadow Finance Minister' due to some of her tweets). Without further ado, let's get to the causes of Brazil's stagnation. Guido Mantega (Finance Minister between 2006 and 2014) and Antônio Palocci (Finance Minister between 2003 and 2006). Mantega is associated to developmentalism and Palocci to liberalism. Education First of all, the significant growth of the 20th century left a terrible educational legacy. Brazil only began to have a somewhat consistent educational policy in the 1990s and 2000s, when basic education was universalized. To put it into perspective, in 1990, the average number of years of schooling in Brazil was 3.8 years. Even Sub-Saharan African countries like Congo, Zimbabwe, and Zambia had higher average schooling levels than ours. Approximately a quarter of the population were illiterate. The key change came with the 1988 Constitution, which decided that Brazil would try to become an European-style social democracy. Since then, considerable progress has been made, but clearly not enough. The main educational bottleneck lies in Elementary School II, which typically spans the ages of 12 to 15. It is during this stage in Brazil that the discrepancy between age and the appropriate grade level drastically increases, leading to higher rates of grade repetition and students falling behind in their education. This problem is probably related to the transition from a single teacher trained in pedagogy in Elementary I to several specialists teaching only one subject. This transition also occurs at the onset of adolescence, which is naturally a turbulent phase already, with the introduction of drugs, alcohol and various forms of prejudice being normal. The result ends up being a distancing of the student from school. Two Brazilian states, which have been governed by center-left parties for many years, serve as examples in Brazilian educational policy: Pernambuco and Ceará. A highlight in Ceará is the Programa de Afabetização na Idade Certa (Program of Alphabetization in the Right Age), which aims to ensure that all students in the state's public school systems achieve literacy by the age of 7. The plan was based on the following pillars: (1) the elaboration of a specialized literacy curriculum that was adopted in all the municipalities, with structured materials for teachers and students containing a daily routine of classroom activities and homework assignments; (2) pedagogical practices to encourage reading in the classroom; (3) financial incentives for the municipalities that achieve better results in education; and (4) evaluation and monitoring of the program, with a census and diagnostic test that is applied at the beginning of every semester. Pernambuco has implemented a Full-Time High School system that stands out. The system is based on the following pillars: (1) the introduction of a subject called "life project," which encourages students to create plans with goals and objectives for their lives; (2) guided study, providing a space for autonomy in learning and fostering self-directed learning skills; (3) hands-on, practical classes that combine theory and practice; (4) youth clubs, where collective interests of young people are pursued; (5) tutoring, where teachers (tutors) interact with students to support their development; and (6) full-time education, of course. Both plans have been tremendous successes and could be implemented nationwide. The Member of Parliament Tabata Amaral has proposed the program "basic education like Ceará's, high school like Pernambuco's." We might see that put in practice. Izolda Cela, the mind behind Ceará's basic education plan, is the Executive-Secretary of the Ministry of Education, and the current Minister of Education is Camilo Santana, the governor of Ceará between 2014 and 2022. Izolda Cela (Executive-Secretary of the Ministry of Education) and Camilo Santana (Minister of Education). Public Investments Furthermore, there is a general consensus that the significant decrease in public investment since 1980 explains part of the problem. During the Golden Age of Brazilian growth, public investment mounted to about 6% of GDP, whereas it currently stands at approximately 4% since the lost decade. Liberal economists tend to attribute this to the expansion of the welfare state, that came with a substantial increase in the tax burden (from 25% of GDP in the 1970s to 35% in 2000). On the other hand, developmentalist economists point to the decline in public savings due to the privatization of state-owned enterprises in the 1990s. In his second government, Lula created the Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento (PAC) (Growth Acceleration Program), whose objective was precisely to expand public investments. Unfortunately, the plan ended up with highly controversial results, primarily due to the low administrative capacity of the Brazilian State and corruption (some like to call the plan the Corruption Acceleration Program!). But now the Workers' Party has gained new experience. Many of its state governments became famous for extensive investment programs in partnership with the private sector, delivering positive results. Chief of Staff Rui Costa, in particular, had a successful experience with public-private investments during his tenure as the governor of Bahia. He is now expected to lead the "New PAC", which will probably be announced at some point between today and July. (The project still has no name and is provisionally being called "New PAC"). Here's what Rui Costa has said about the project: "We will have, in an unprecedented way, investments with Public Private Partnerships (PPIs) at the federal level. Many states, including Bahia, have made PPI projects. [...] We are negotiating with the Ministry of Finance the conditions for guarantees so that we can leverage these projects." Lula wants to meet with the 27 state governors to determine which state projects the Union should prioritize for its investments. In recent weeks, Costa has held individual meetings with the state governments to define which projects will be included in the new PAC. In all, eight governors have already been heard. In a speech on the May 1st holiday, Lula said the following about the project: "We are inviting foreign businessmen to invest in Brazil and we are showing them the great projects that we are going to present in the third PAC. It will be the largest infrastructure project in this country." Former Governor of Bahia (2014 - 2022) and current Chief of Staff Rui Costa. Deindustrialization Another problem is the early deindustrialization that is taking place in Brazil: we are losing our industry before becoming rich. In the beginning of the lost decade, the industry accounted for one-quarter of the Brazilian GDP, whereas today it represents around one-tenth. The reason for this process is complex, and once again, economists disagree. Liberals point to the new form of production organization that emerged with globalization, where the manufacturing of goods was fragmented into different stages, each executed in different countries. According to this line of thinking, Brazil failed to adapt to the new industrial configuration and remained stuck in an unrealistic autarkic dream. On the other hand, developmentalist economists usually argue that after the end of hyperinflation, Brazil fell into a trap of having an overvalued currency and high interest rates, demolishing the industry's competitiveness. (I am more inclined towards the first thesis, although it is a fact that the Brazilian exchange rate was detrimental to the industry after the Real Plan). Now I want to talk a little bit about the Brazilian industrial bourgeoisie and its problems. In the 1960s, the then sociologist and future president Fernando Henrique Cardoso published his thesis on the Brazilian industrial entrepreneurs. Based on his research, he concluded that Brazilian industrialists did not have any national project, and (1) "only cared about their personal interests when speaking on behalf of the class" and (2) "[their] political action consists of personal participation in the patrimonialist game." Brazil has a serious problem related to what we call 'patrimonialism,' which refers to the capture of resources from the Brazilian state to benefit private interests. Unfortunately, industrial policy in Brazil often results in tax exemptions, subsidies, tariff protections, etc., for an inefficient, patrimonialist, and somewhat broken industry that was developed in the 20th century. The Workers' Party itself fell into this outdated corporatism while in power, especially during the first Rousseff administration (2011-2015). It is a shame that advocating for greater state involvement in the economy ends up becoming a defense of those interest groups. In this sense, I find myself opposed to both liberals and developmentalists. While the latter end up promoting an agenda that only benefits private interests, albeit with good intentions, the former dismiss any state planning, believing in an 'economic abiogenesis.' Since 2016, we have been reducing the role of the state and waiting for a crowding in effect, but with no success. We need strong a industrial policy, but it has to be transparent and not perpetuate the old game of patrimonialism. In the words of the brilliant economist Laura Carvalho: "We want a State that identifies ways to stimulate technological innovation and product development in partnership with the private sector. But this policy cannot become hostage to the existing private sector. We have remnants of our industry of the 20th century, for example the automobile industry, and when we do industrial policy, we end up just giving incentives to them. This is a state that does not choose winners, but rather is chosen by losers. Those who are struggling in the industry try to eat the resources of the state to survive." Unfortunately, the signals from the new Lula government are quite negative. Industry and Commerce Minister Geraldo Alckmin recently announced a plan of incentives for the automobile industry, which is essentially the same program that has failed several times in the past. There are positive things coming from his ministry, but few of them have much to do directly with a well-made industrial policy. It's a shame. His plans beyond industrial policy appear positive, as shown in the following excerpt, at least: "Brazil had an early deindustrialization. Europe also deindustrialized, but ours was precarious and severe. More than reindustrializing, we need a neo-reindustrialization. A central issue is the competitiveness agenda. There is a principle in medicine that says: suppress the cause and the effect ceases. We have to act on the causes of low growth. Our tax model generates an absurd cost for companies. It is not fair. We have an absurd judicialization that leads to legal insecurity and hinders exports. The whole world has a VAT (value added tax. I defend it. I think Haddad is doing well and I am a great enthusiast of the tax reform." Probably more than any other politician of expression today, Haddad positions himself as a republican and talks about reducing the patrimonialist distortions of the Brazilian public budget. He talks about "closing the drains of what is called Brazilian patrimonialism" and "ending a series of abuses that have been committed against the fiscal base" of the country. He says that many sectors have been "overly" benefited "with rules established over the decades and that have not been reviewed by any outcome control. Many have expired from the point of view of efficiency, and need to be revoked." Former Governor of São Paulo (2001 - 2006; 2010 - 2017) and current Vice-President of Brazil and Minister of Industry and Commerce Geraldo Alckmin. Business Environment Brazilian productivity has been stagnant for decades. What is causing this? The main suspect is the Brazilian tax system. There is an enormous complexity in the various indirect taxes (ISS, ICMS, PIS/Cofins, and IPI), which forces every company to have an excessively large department dedicated to tax payment. Additionally, numerous divergences of interpretation arise between the Federal Revenue, state authorities, and businesses. On every corner of our cities, there is a specialized tax law office to assist companies in dealing with the extremely high level of litigation in our taxation system. To make matters worse, our indirect taxes discourage investment in locations with higher social returns, as the tax complexity and special tax regimes artificially alter the profitability of investments and production. A general simplification of these taxes, with the adoption of a Value Added Tax, could have an impact on the economy's efficiency equivalent to the Plano Real, which ended hyperinflation. Even beyond the tax issue, the Brazilian business environment is terrible. According to the World Bank's Doing Business 2020 report, which measures the ease of doing business in 190 countries, Brazil ranks 124th. This problem is related to excessive bureaucracy, unexpected judicial decisions, loopholes in regulatory frameworks, and disrespect for contracts. The Tax Reform is going to be the government's main priority after the approval of the New Fiscal Anchor. Planning Minister Simone Tebet summed up the reform as follows: "The Tax reform is the only silver bullet that we have to save Brazil." And here's what Finance Minister Fernando Haddad has said about it: "There is no way to grow Brazil's productivity with this tax system [...] We are developing a tax reform that is even more modern, because it introduces in the national tax system a Value Added Tax that solves a good part of the flaws of the current system that, in my opinion, is the great villain for the low growth rates of our productivity." The idea is to approve the Tax Reform still this year (Haddad talks about doing it in the first semester!). Special Secretary for Tax Reform Bernard Appy. Economic Isolation Brazil has a very closed economy. Among the 160 countries analyzed by the World Bank, the Brazilian economy is only less open than that of Sudan. The average protection applied by Brazil to capital goods is 14 times higher than in Chile and 25 times higher than in Mexico. This is probably the most expressive cause of the low productivity and deindustrialization in Brazil, together with the tax system. Here, I quote the brilliant economist Edmar Bacha: "[The closure of the Brazilian economy during the Geisel government (1974 - 1979)] caused a tremendous drop in the economy's productivity and an increase in the cost of capital goods. And this, I believe, is what lies at the root of our stagnation after the so-called economic miracle (1968-1974). Our industry became unable to compete internationally. And we were forced, because the industry has this extraordinary lobbying capacity, to prevent the redesign of the Brazilian industry to participate in global value chains." Bacha's argument makes sense: the collapse of GDP growth coincides with the collapse of capital accumulation (the growth rate of the capital stock) after Geisel's government. Why did capital accumulation collapse? Bacha explains that using a decomposition of the investment = savings relationship: K' = s(1/p)v - δ, where K' = capital accumulation, s = savings rate, p = relative price of investment, v = output-capital ratio, and δ = depreciation rate. Between 1950-1980, the "golden age" of Brazil, K' grew at nearly 9% per year. Between 1981-2014, this number was 3%. Why? Looking at the historical series, the difference is not in savings or depreciation. What happened was that the output-capital ratio fell by about one-third, and the relative price of investment increased by one-third. In other words, the capital requirement per unit of output increased significantly, and at the same time, the price of investment goods rose significantly. According to Bacha, this process occurred between 1973 and 1983, a period in which the Military Government pursued an autarkic economic policy. The ideal scenario for Brazil would be to open its economy and have an export-oriented industry. The industry we have developed is heavily reliant on our domestic market, without external competition. In the words of economist Nelson Barbosa: "Brazil cannot produce ships, but it can produce airplanes. Brazil does not have car manufacturers, but it has bus manufacturers. Brazil cannot have a domestic production of microelectronics, but it has a good domestic production of electric motors. So we need to study what worked in these sectors to see if it can be replicated in other sectors. All these successful sectors, Embraer, Weg, Marco Polo, are sectors that are competitive in Brazil and in the world. Here is the first clue: correct industrial policies create domestic production that competes domestically and internationally. They are integrated products that import and export extensively. Value chains." However, an open trade policy without a plan may not be positive either. In Nelson's words: "Development always means increased productivity. Opening the economy can stimulate productivity, but it can also lead to a negative specialization. You can open your economy and become a country that only exports commodities, with an inflated services sector that only sells domestically, with a significant portion of your population relying on informal jobs. Which is what happens in Brazil. So I think trade openness is inevitable, more developed countries are more open, but thinking that just opening up will automatically lead to development is naïve and something we shouldn't do in the 21st century. I believe that strategic trade integration is crucial and necessary for development. Unilateral openness, without any plan, will only reinforce the specialization we already have today." In any case, it is certain that the current excessive protectionism cannot be maintained. Opening up would allow broader access for companies to (1) cheaper and higher-quality inputs and (2) foreign-produced capital goods and technology, (3) create significant competition effects to invigorate the economy, and (4) create a 'selection effect' that would eliminate losers and favor winners. But this is the agenda that I am least hopeful about. Trade openness is a topic that faces strong opposition from the Brazilian left and would likely only occur under a moderate center-right government. I hope, at least, that some trade agreements can be reached to open up the economy. The European Union-Mercosur trade agreement would have a significant impact and would be very important but I'm not very hopeful that it'll be approved. Haddad is still optimistic, though! He said that a more emphatic diplomatic effort will be made starting in the second semester, in a movement that will take advantage of Brazil's leadership in Mercosur and Spain's leadership in the European bloc. Simone Tebet (Planning Minister) and Fernando Haddad (Finance Minister). Interest Rates Interest rates in Brazil are much, much higher than the global average. Our credit is scarce and dysfunctional. Lula likes to repeat that Brazil is a capitalist country without capitalism because there is no credit. Brazil has the second-highest bank spread in the world, second only to Madagascar. This means that banks in Brazil charge very high interest rates for lending money. To give you an idea, Brazil's bank spread is higher than the average observed in countries at war. There are several reasons for this, but some stand out: (1) savings in Brazil have historically been very low (around 20% of GDP), (2) the government consumes a significant portion of savings to finance itself, and (3) the Brazilian banking sector is extremely concentrated, with a few banks dominating the entire sector. The other issue in this discussion is the current policy interest rate set by the Central Bank. Brazil currently has the highest real interest rate in the world, at around 9%. The debate about whether this interest level is correct or not is quite active in Brazil, with its proponents arguing that the current Brazilian inflation is demand-driven and pointing to inflation in the services sector and core inflation, while its critics argue that inflation is not demand-driven, pointing to the fact that Brazil has had a negative output gap since 2015 and that supply shocks can explain the inflation in services. This debate is complex, and it is hard to determine definitively which side is right. Nevertheless, the Central Bank is strongly adhering to the first thesis. The current Chairman of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto (RCN), is the grandson of an economist of the Military Dictatorship and was appointed by Bolsonaro. He will remain in his position until 2024 due to the new autonomy granted to the Central Bank in 2021. In this scenario, Lula engaged in a public war against RCN, urging him to lower interest rates. The situation became tense, but Lula never showed any willingness to take effective action to remove him, remaining only in rhetoric. Throughout the conflict, Haddad positioned himself as a moderate, playing a certain "good cop, bad cop" game with Lula and gaining trust in the financial market. Apparently, Lula intends to nominate former executive-secretary of the Finance Ministry Gabriel Galípolo to replace RCN in 2024. He was recently appointed as director of monetary policy at the Central Bank, and is widely identified as a heterodox economist. Haddad's current plan is to stabilize Brazil's deficit to allow for a monetary loosening. Here's what he said: "We are not at a point where fiscal expansion is going to help the economy. If there is room for any stimulus, it will be monetary. If we know how to make the transition, there is room for a lower interest rate, you just have to give security to the monetary authority." He does not seem to be concerned about banking concentration, though. Chairman of the Central Bank Roberto Campos Neto. TL;DR The Brazilian economy has seen very little growth since the the lost decade in the 1980s. One of the primary factors contributing to this stagnation is the economy's low productivity. There are several reasons behind this low productivity, including: - Inadequate infrastructure and insufficient investments in its development.
- A significant delay in comparison to other countries in terms of investing in education.
- Unreasonable economic protectionism.
- Private groups exerting undue influence and capturing the Brazilian state (patrimonialism).
- Failure to adapt our industry to a globalized world.
- Excessively high bank spreads.
- A terrible business environment, particularly due to the tax system.
There are other reasons for sure, but I'd say most people would agree those are the most important ones. Also, here's my effortpost on the Workers' Party, in case you haven't read it. submitted by palocci to SocialDemocracy [link] [comments] |

Only justice will bring peace.
History: Long ago, the Four Nations did not always live in harmony. The Avatar, the sole master of all four elements reincarnated in each generation, was responsible for bringing balance to the world, and the world was in disarray after the previous Avatar's death. It was up to the new Avatar, an abandoned street urchin named Kyoshi, to discover her destiny and save the world.
Kyoshi went on to become a legendary figure in her 230 years of life. She trained the elite Kyoshi Warriors and the Dai Li, defended the world from conquerors and kings alike, and remained a mythic figure hundreds of years after her death.

2023.05.28 02:39 Shadow122791 Shadow-Verse (Post Rise): Blaze &The Sayains
A.I Story by Genie app
In the far reaches of Otherworld, a place where the souls of the departed coexist with celestial beings, Goku and Vegeta found themselves facing an unforeseen challenge. The duo, having vanquished innumerable foes across the cosmos, were now about to meet an enigmatic figure called Blaze, otherwise known as Shadow Seed.
The sky was a canvas of mesmerizing colors, with golden clouds drifting lazily across the infinite horizon. Goku, his hair spiked and unruly as ever, grinned at his rival and friend, Vegeta. Dressed in their respective gi and armor, they had been training fiercely, honing their skills in anticipation of new adversaries. Suddenly, a flash of dark fire streaked across the sky, its crimson glow stark against the ethereal backdrop.
As the flames dissipate, Blaze stands before them. With hair as black as a raven's wing and eyes that burned with a deep, ember-like intensity, he exuded a mysterious aura. Clad in an obsidian cloak that seemed to absorb the light around him, Blaze's presence as imposing as it was enigmatic.
Goku, always eager for a challenge, sizes up the stranger and greets him enthusiastically.
"Hey, I'm Goku! Are you here to fight?"
Vegeta, on the other hand, remains silent, his keen eyes scrutinizing Blaze with a mix of wariness and curiosity.
Smirking, Blaze replies, "Greetings, Goku and Vegeta. I'm Shadow Seed but I prefer Blaze. I have come to test your strength and see if you are worthy of facing me in battle. The universe has whispered your names and your deeds, but words can only tell so much."
Intrigued, Goku and Vegeta exchanged glances before accepting the challenge. As they power up, their auras flare brilliantly, casting kaleidoscopes of light against the ever-changing sky. Goku transforms into his Super Saiyan Blue form, while Vegeta ignites his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved power.
The battle commenced with a burst of speed and energy, as Goku and Vegeta launched themselves at Blaze.
The former king of demons Shadow however, proved to be more than just a formidable opponent. As the trio exchanged blows, it became apparent that Blaze was able to counter their every move with his dark energy and an uncanny ability to predict their attacks.
Goku and Vegeta fought fiercely, each surpassing their limits and pushing the boundaries of their power. Blaze, too, demonstrated an incredible mastery of his dark energy, manipulating it with an expertise that left the Saiyans both awed and frustrated. The Otherworld sky was filled with the cacophony of their battle, as powerful energy blasts collided and sent shockwaves through the celestial realm.
As the dust settled, Goku, Vegeta, and Blaze stood bruised and battered, but with newfound respect for each other. Goku, grinning despite his exhaustion, extended his hand to Blaze. "That was an amazing fight! You're incredibly powerful! I hope we can do this again sometime."
Blaze, his eyes glinting with a newfound admiration for his opponents, nodded. "You both have shown that you are truly exceptional warriors. I'm honored to have fought against you. Until we meet again, Goku and Vegeta."
With that, Blaze vanished into a vortex of dark flame, leaving Goku and Vegeta to ponder their encounter with the enigmatic Shadow Seed. The experience had not only tested their limits but opened their eyes to the existence of fighters beyond their realm, fueling their relentless pursuit of strength and growth.

2023.05.28 02:16 pants710 Death wobble?
I have an 08 Unlimited who is heavily modded (the only thing original is body and engine lmao the frame is custom and made for rock crawling, she’s got 37s, stuff like that? She’s more 4X4/“specialty” than regular car at this point lol) and sometimes after a bit of driving she’ll shake? It’s always after a long high way stretch, which is to be expected. I refuse to get her over 70mph and I understand I bought a 4x4 not a highway warrior. (I bought her outta state tho so we did have to push her a bit getting her home. She’s been resting since, now we only have to drive “long ways” to get to the trail!)
Based on my searches I think I can call it a “death wobble” (tho I don’t feel like anyone esp the bb Jeep is going to die) and it seems to be mostly a suspension issue? I’ve read that I can tighten various suspension bolts and it might work; my consensus after tightening all bolts within reach is yes but no. (That’s more so an off-roading issue IMO tho so not completely relevant?). She feels better but still wobbles when I stop!
My biggest question is is it normal to get the wobble after some basic city driving? (On and off the gas, some slamming on the brakes as I can’t control everyone) I live in Denver, so it’s a decent sized city with a decent amount of shenanigans. After getting this angel I have been in the inner city less so while I am still stop and go with some weirdness, I am no longer parallel parking, drifting, honking at crackheads, and in general parking downtown where 97% of people will mess with your car because Fuck You Thats Why. I don’t feel like she’s gonna shake off the frame, no warning lights, not running hot, is she still okay? If she’s just a bit temperamental I can live with that, my last Jeep had her share of quirks so it’s to be expected! I just love her more than myself so I don’t want to push her too hard if I should take her in.
(I also ONLY let Jeep specialists touch my babies? Even when I had just a Grand Cherokee I didn’t trust no one lmao I’m going to bring her in to a few specialists next week!)
Thank y’all so much in advance!! 💖💞

2023.05.28 01:57 SM64player Planning on building a budget gaming PC for around $300-400. I have no clue where to start.
I'm planning on building a budget PC for some light gaming and video editing (nothing too fancy). I have a budget of around $300-400.
I have no clue where to start, since it's my first time building a PC.
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will be playing light games like Half-Life 2, Portal 1/2, Minecraft, and emulating Wii/Wii U games at 1080p. I also plan to do some light video editing. Definitely no AAA games or heavy video editing.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$400, preferably less.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Not sure, to be honest.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Just the PC - I already have a monitor, KB, mouse, mic, and headphones.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Georgia, United States. The nearest MicroCenter is like 200 miles away, so that's a no-go.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I will be reusing my HP monitor, keyboard, Logitech mouse, Onn microphone, Soundcore Life Q20 headphones, and Windows license from the old computer (bought it myself, it didn't come with one when I got it).
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Not now, but maybe in a few years. Might overclock both CPU and GPU.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Nothing special - just a standard PC with a decent GPU. Going for 16 GB of RAM if possible. Bluetooth would be nice to have, but isn't a necessity.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Nah, nothing too fancy. For size, anything that
isn't massive and hard to carry will work. If possible, a dark blue color scheme (but black and other colors will work too.) RGB isn't a necessity, but would look great.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No. I already have a license to transfer over from my old computer.
Extra info or particulars:
My current PC is absolutely
awful (old hand-me-down) and at this point,
anything is better than what I have right now :P
Specs of my current PC, if you're curious:
Old prebuilt - Dell Studio XPS 8100 Intel Core i7-870 (first generation, I think) ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series GPU 500 GB, 5,400 RPM standard hard disk (it's really slow) 8 GB, 1,333 MHz RAM
Thank you for your time and efforts. (By the way, this is my first post here, so please let me know if I got anything wrong or if you need more information. Thank you!).

Section 1 of Chapter 1:"Birthright's Mantle, Outcast's Shackles: The Opus of Nirvaaṇa"
(Beginning of Page 1)
(Character monologue)
Credits. Credits. Credits. The almighty and powerful Credits... The all-powerful Universal Credits: for a share of which we are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. With unwavering dedication, I assume a tranquil meditation pose, directing my thoughts towards the inner realms, where my focused mind connects with the ethereal vision of my third eye. Through this heightened state of awareness, I have clandestinely observed and meticulously absorbed the whispered conversations and subtle nuances of numerous gatherings on various occasions within this mothership.
Some humanoids had invested their life savings in renting a ship to join a fleet and gain access to strategic extraction sites. Those less fortunate purchased a share of a ship with ten other crewmates, agreeing to receive a percentage of the profits. Speaking of shares, the mothership claimed a 40 percent cut from each fleet, providing flawless protection, efficient travel time, and unlimited food from its internally built vivarium. All in exchange for a share of the Universal Credits, the currency that governs our worlds.
I could write endless pages defining the term universal-credits. However, there was a time when I despised such material attachments. I was content in my dim and dreary cave. Over time, though, desperation grew from poverty, intimidation, and sorrow. Perhaps now, materialism has seeped into my/our minds, intertwining with our breath and life force. Given the current risky conditions of deep space, we are willing to risk our lives for a taste of the almighty Universal Credits.
As I delve deeper into thought experiments of risks and rewards, my mind becomes flooded with unwanted negative thoughts. Horrific news and rumors dominate my consciousness. Amongst many, one piece of news is particularly disturbing and recent. Despite deep meditations, I cannot pinpoint the source of this dark presence even with my third eye. Perhaps it is a synthetic species or an unknown race echoing the sirens of death, destruction, and doom. These rumors always make me sick. Recently, there has been an abundance of them. On the day of our great embarkment, a tip circulated claiming that an unknown source emitted a red flare, simultaneously annihilating five motherships with one single slash. Allegedly, this powerful flare not only disintegrates objects it touches but reduces them to nothingness by a rapid continual process of subatomic level evaporation.
The Vidyadhaaras, the fortunate ones, have been sanctioned by all other humanoids. In return, they have responded with an iron curtain, promising annihilation or enslavement to any species that ventures into their space. I am no expert on ethics, but one thing is certain: the Vidyadhaaras race are exceptionally fortunate. Some possess an extra third hand and naturally gemstones studded body at birth, and most are born with unlimited credit encoded in their DNA, in the form of a wish-fulfilling stone.
The dark blue-skinned manus of Shha-taM.Bha-gyaṃ display cunning charisma in these high-risk, high-reward expeditions. Yesterday, one boisterous, sapphire-backed individual, fueled by intoxicating beverages, rambled on about the statistical probabilities. In his mind, there was a red line in the depths of space, where the chances of falling into flare of nothingness stood at 60 percent. Yet, he believed the rewards outweighed the risks.
Section 2: Chapter 1:"Birthright's Mantle, Outcast's Shackles: The Opus of Nirvaaṇa"
MAY 25, 2023
(Beginning of Section 2)
The perplexed humanoid novices were both pitiful and at times detestable. I often paid little attention to their groups, always distancing myself from them, I even practiced precise isolation from stepping into the very shadows they cast, as they aimlessly scurried around the mothership, displaying a blatant state of confusion. Despite the well-lit corridors, hallways, and communal areas, they seemed utterly clueless about their next destination. With their invisible novice insignia proudly worn, they unwittingly attracted one another, creating an amusing spectacle of automated alliances, like molecular compounds.
Unfortunately, a significant portion of these individuals would never have the opportunity to find out the hidden areas and witness the marvels of the state-of-the-art artificial biomes, a place perfectly suited to shield one's gaze from their juvenile countenances. Sadly, for most of them, a grim fate awaited. I can’t protect everyone; I can’t protect each individual. It is a sad fact.
(End of character's monologue)
The dark-skinned Rudra eventually ended his inner monologue in mumbling with a long sigh. At last, he slowly opened his eyes to transition respectfully from sacred meditation to reality, moving cautiously from his meditative state to reality state. In fact, it was a sign of respect to his meditation, his life long practice. By employing simple breathing techniques, which included deep inhalation, holding the breath until reaching an uncomfortable limit, and exhaling deeply. Therefore, he repeatedly practiced the same sequence that awakened his mastery of meditation, from his very young age.
The Rudra then drank from his golden water flask, only after clearing his throat by gurgling five times once, in his customary manner. Then, he uttered the syllable 'svaa-dhaa' and dropped a portion of water on the ground as a mark of respect to his forefathers. He often mumbled similarly, whenever he entered a partial meditative state during eavesdropping; and other universal exploration through his ethereal visions, with the aid of his third eye. When he remained silent during meditation, it simply meant he was deeply immersed in self-exploration during his profound meditative state. In between deep and partial meditation, he only uttered varied two sacred syllables that held deep meaning in his culture, the Rudrakind culture.
The dark-skinned Rudra was dressed in a loincloth, decided to plunge into the artificial lake of the artificial lust rainforest biome. The rainforest biome extended enough to create horizon between artificial lights and ceiling. The intense hot and humid climate was perfectly soothing for his race. The Rudra felt rejuvenated to maximum. It was covered with towering trees, lush vegetation, and a rich diversity of plant and animal species. It receives ample rainfall, creating a humid and moist environment that supports the growth of limited species. Within this captivating biome, the intricate web of life thrives in a symphony of colors, sounds, and interconnected relationships. Furthermore, it was the source of vivarium, which caused abundance of food for the mass mothership dwellers.
The Rudra submerged his body in the crystal-clear water while observing the gathering of Quaziriths in the distance, near the lush formation of natural juice producing flowers and plants. As he massaged his muscular body, he displayed a wide and medium physique, attractive and handsome, with dreadlocked hair on the reflection of clear water. Occasionally, he touched his forehead and adjusted his red hairband to cool off his forehead. Although he detested wearing the headband, it was for his own security, to conceal his racial identity. He continued to observe the gathering of two-legged birds called the Quaziriths, which had beautiful golden feathers and were devoid of eyes. They surveyed their surroundings with the aid of their flapping wings through their ethereal and sonar perceptions. Furthermore, their flapping wings creating an eye-pleasing luminescent display even more gracefully in sunlight. With their long tongues, they sucked nectar from flowers and juices flowing from fallen fruits scattered on the ground, it was their daily routine. At one point, some of them began to quarrel, which made the Rudra chuckle with a strong negative sigh.
The quarrels of Quaziriths reminded him of his own Rudrakind, evoking a sense of envy toward the Quaziriths, that led to another deep, humming sigh withdrawn from him. In contrast, here Quaziriths were welcomed with open arms, yet his Rudrakind were not. He did not belong here legally.
As Rudra, 37 years old, expert at pondering, delved deep into his mind, he remembered his home planet name Ugra-loka, which was breathtaking from sunset until dawn. During the scorching afternoons, they sought shelter in their caves as the intense heat and contrast made them angry and uncontrollable in environments outside of caves. The Rudrakind were naturally born with a blissful and destructive "third eye" and practiced asceticism throughout their lives. They were content with small portions of food, as they practiced always controlling their senses. The mastery of the third demanded outmost priority. The children who did not obey such rules were outcasted in extremely remote places. In the event that they may cause extreme destructions. The fact is, only fraction of their children opened their third eye, prematurely before the age of sixteen.
The Rudrakind resided in cool caves that provided access to crystal-clear water, pouring out from complex inner spring systems. During the intense heat of the season, they ventured into more intricate underground cave levels, which even extended twenty levels downward, it had been built by their ancestors throughout many generations. Beyond the twenty level, there were only impenetrable rocks.
The Rudrakind practiced agriculture in open fields and sunbeam caves, where perfect sunlight seeped through cracks, creating a beautiful environment. The sunbeam caves where they also kept their pure red glowing cattle. The Rudras were non carnivorous. Therefore, they did not eat their cattle. In defiance some new generation of clans practiced carnivorism due to scarcity of foods, which justified their actions. The pure followers could go on for days with just drinking water.
The sunbeam caves held the utmost sanctity for the Rudrakind as they represented extraordinary and otherworldly environments. According to ancient beliefs, the sunbeam caves were shaped by the divine gaze of their almighty creator. The open sky within these caves symbolized the escape of sacred smoke from lit altars. Childrens and females drew sacred two-word syllables around the contour of sunbeam with chalks on the ground. At these altars, they would offer portions of their edible resources or sometimes non-edible valuable possessions as a tribute to their almighty creator and forefathers. Surprisingly, they could not recall the name of their creator, nor did they possess the knowledge of the sacred collections of their cherished short syllables, all of which were communicated in pairs of two syllables. Certain ancient declarations asserted with certainty that the combination of these unknown short syllables constituted the names of their long-forgotten god.
Over time, as indifference grew among the hierarchies within the Rudrakind, divisions between clans, and the destructive acts of superpowers flaunting their superiority, the values of their ancient culture were eroded, leading to mass extinctions of their race. Even today, some Rudras continue to engage in internal conflicts, driven by a lingering thirst for vengeance fueled by an unforgivable past. Therefore, it was too easy to forgive the past and shake hands through diplomacy. Consequently, it is disturbing to witness recently how few resorted to primitive weapons such as stones and pickaxes, equipped with handles made of strong superdense alloy, forged from the heat of their very third eye’s beam with great precision. However, they refrained from employing their beam of dissolution to crisp one another. The use of such power against their own kind was considered a highly demeaning act, resulting in complete disownment by all Rudrakind clans.
Amidst these ongoing events in Ugraloka, the Rudra in ritualistic bathing process, noticed a male and female Quazirith gracefully separating themselves from the flock, away from the quarrel. The male possessed a vibrant green emerald beak, while the female exhibited a naturally formed rose quartz stone. The pirates, often driven by their insatiable desires, extracted these rose quartz stones and sold them at exorbitant prices on the shadow market, only after indulging in the savoring consumption of Quazirith meat. However, none dared to abduct female Rudras, who possessed the power to reduce their enemies to ashes with their fiery abilities.
The Rudra continued with his ritualistic bathing process, all the while observing the Quazirith couple. Memories of his fiancée, Astrondra, flooded his mind, and he whispered her name, his voice choked with longing and accompanied by frequent pauses. Astrondra possessed remarkable control over her soft voice, complemented by a well-developed physique and an array of facial and hand expressions, her true complexion reminiscent of a chocolate cherry cat's eye. The Rudra yearned to protect her and whisk her away from the planet Ugraloka, despite the circumstances that labeled him, his Rudrakind, and the Vidyadhaaras as dangerous; they were ordered to remain within their own respective system. In fact, their mere presence instilled fear in other humanoid species, leaving none feeling secure.
In contrast, the Vidyadhaaras enjoyed access to numerous habitable planets teeming with taiga and rainforest biomes. Moreover, aided by infinite reserves of Quantumite, they effortlessly traversed their system with remarkable ease. Not to mention their wish-fulfilling stones, inherent to their very being. In fact, these stones granted them the power to manipulate any physical environment, traverse realms, and create inorganic objects at will—without even requiring Quantumite. However, they chose to refrain from extensively utilizing their all-powerful birthright stones, as such usage shortened their overall lifespan. However, this Vidyadhaaras being wouldn’t shelter his kind nor his beloved.
The most peaceful and beautiful beings with blue-posterior skin from the planet Shha-taM!' Bha-gyaṃ stood as the only reliable refuge for the Rudrakind; only if any race could prove their F'aay-doma to their supreme leader, the Manukind will welcome them with open arms. He envisioned a prosperous future for his fiancée Astrondra in that mentioned planet and his yet to be born progeny, with the assistance of his humanoid friends possessing lapis lazuli posterior- who were known as the main founder of shadow market.
At the age of 37, this Rudra had traversed a remarkable journey, eventually finding his place aboard this mothership, his spaceship is one of the hundred vessels comprising the Shha-taM!' Bha-gyaṃ fleet. His banner proudly displayed the perfectly aligned seven moons of Shha-taM!' Bha-gyaṃ, further solidifying his influence. As he had proved his F'aay-doma to these humanoid inhabitants, none among the Manukind would ever dare to unveil his racial identity. He had become the captain of his own spaceship, which was a testament to his accomplishments and the acceptance he had gained through his F'aay-doma achievement.

At San Diego CoMic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Somewhere in Queens would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he Mean? And what would that kind of reset Mean for the reMainder of DCEU's roster, including SuperMan, BatMan, Wonder WoMan, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, ShazaM and so on.As
Uchiyan Ne Gallan Tere Yaar Diyan neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that stateMent in a recent sit-down with Yahoo EntertainMent (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Martyr or Murderer, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's HawkMan, Noah Centineo's AtoM SMasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together coMprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Martyr or Murderer.)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in My Mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Martyr or Murderer, we acknowledge everyone: BatMan , SuperMan , Wonder WoMan, Flash, we acknowledge everybo****here's also soMe Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I Meant by the resetting. Is Somewhere in Queens StreaMing on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Somewhere in Queens is not currently available to streaM on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the filM will release on Disney Plus until late DeceMber at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' filMs on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaMing platforM, Most Major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-Enys Men 0 days after the filM's theatrical release.
The sequel opened to $150 Million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first filM when coMparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cuMe coMes to $330 Million. Can it becoMe the year's third filM to Make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which Made up around $124 Million of the first filM's $Enys Men 82 Million international box office, being out of play? It May be tough, but it's not iMpossible. Legging out past $500 Million is plausible on the doMestic front (that would be a Multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 Million abroad would be a drop of around $58 Million froM the original after excluding the two MIA Markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the filM,but the positive reception suggests that Wakanda Forever will outperforM the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had Multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 Million as Hollywood shied away froM releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprograMMing that opened the saMe weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 Million and $17.3 Million respectively. That weekend had an overall cuMe of $287 Million coMpared to $208 Million this weekend Take away the $22 Million gap between the two Black Panther filMs and there's still a $57 Million gap between the two weekends. The difference May not feel that large when a Mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the Mid-level filMs are the entire box office as we saw in recent Months.
Uchiyan Ne Gallan Tere Yaar Diyan , which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-suMMer, pre-Wakanda Forever season, caMe in second with just $8.Enys Men Million. Despite the blockbuster coMpetition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the nuMbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cuMe of $151 Million. Worldwide it is at $352 Million, which isn't a great cuMe as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 Million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any filM since Martyr or Murderer, though Wakanda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Uchiyan Ne Gallan Tere Yaar Diyan caMe in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $Enys Men .1 Million, eMerging as one of the season's Most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it coMes to filMs for adults. The doMestic cuMe is $5Enys Men .5 Million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 Million sixth weekend and $40.8 Million cuMe., in fact )
which isn't surprising considering it's the only faMily filM on the Market, and it's Somewhere in Queens to grossing four tiMes its $11.4 Million opening. Still, the $72.Enys Men Million worldwide cuMe is soft given the $50 Million budget , though a nuMber of international Markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Martyr or Murderer, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 Million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror filM, which has a doMestic cuMe of $103 Million and global cuMe of $ 210 Million froM a budget of just $20 Million.
