I think I blew my trans on my Miata, what should I replace it with?
2023.05.27 17:56 Gabbisan I think I blew my trans on my Miata, what should I replace it with?
Hey everyone! I just bought a 2016 Miata Sport about 2-3 months ago. I was driving down the road, and I shifted into third gear (about three or four grand on the tach from second into third). Right as I passed the bite point on my clutch, my car made some of the most awful noises I have ever heard in my life. It’s possible it may just be a clutch, but to be honest, I think the whole trans is gone as my shifter feels like a fork in a bowl of cereal. My vehicle is now stuck in reverse and parked in a lot at a Mexican restaurant. I have to tow it home. I’m considering putting a race grade transmission in, I’m thinking something from Walter motor sports, but I’m new to performance cars and I’m a bit in over my head. I know I can get the trans in (I have help from experienced individuals) but I don’t know what trans options to go with. Do I swap in an ND2 trans? (I get discount on stock Mazda parts thru my dealer, I work there) do I swap in another ND1 transmission? Do I buy a Walter Motorsports trans if I can even find one? Do I get it from Chris Taylor motorsports since Walter motorsports is not taking orders ATM? Do I need the third and fourth EMCO gears? I’d really like to track the car in the future, but in general I just want an OEM+ build that performs really nicely. I’m not looking to push anymore than about 250 whp ever, but still. I’ve also read about the NC trans option, but I’d really rather stick with ND parts if I can, even if they’re aftermarket.
TLDR: I blew up my transmission on my 2016 Miata, and I need suggestions for how to proceed with parts replacement.
Oh yeah and side note, any suggestions on how to tow it back since it’s stuck in gear? Won’t even roll backwards in reverse… and I have to tow it with a Uhaul because I’m 400 miles from home. Thank you guys!!

2023.05.26 18:37 olezarus Flag poling PGWP - ask me anything
Hello all,
I flag poled my PGWP this week. I understand that there isn't a whole lot of information about this online and i had a lot of anxiety and nervousness going into it. For those who don't know - flag poling is a process where you can change your status in the country by applying for a permit at the POE (US-Canada border usually).. i am putting detailed information below , but feel free to comment and ask any questions if you have any. Just want to ensure i am able to help people the way I would have want to be helped !
Location : Peace Bridge
I had done an IMMENSE amount of research on the process because i didn't want to be under prepared whatsoever and carry all the documents needed. I had 2 Canadian citizens drive me there. We arrived at the US border around 7.15. the officer asked for our passports and asked us to park our car and wait in the waiting area inside the customs/border control office. There were around 25 other people there who were also presumably flag poling because i saw most of them later as well. After about waiting an hour we were called up- the officer told me usually there's some paperwork involved in giving the administrative refusal , but since i had a US visa , he just stamped. (I'm not sure what this meant , but he gave me the paper that said FLAGPOLING in bold so i didn't question it much more). Other people there took longer than me presumably because they didn't have a visa and there was more paperwork required. This is just an assumption , don't take it as a fact (and despite this i still had to wait an hour).
We left and drove to the Canadian side and reached there by around 8.45. the officer at the border took out passports again , gave us a yellow slip and told us to park and go to the Canadian office. The people driving me collected their passports and left (they had to work so they went to a nearby cafe) and i waited there (Canadian border officials had my passport) for around 2.5 hours. They were processing flag poling applications but there was 9 people before me and they were doing it in the order they received it. I was the second to last person they admit for flag poling and the last person they admitted came in at 10.30 am (presumably because of the wait at the US office). They said they might open later that day , but couldn't be sure. All in all , i think they took around 15-17 people that day , most people came in groups of 2 or more- i think i was the only person there who was alone. My name got called around 10.45 and the officer asked me what permit I'm applying for. I told him , gave him my student permit , my official transcript , degree completion letter and sat down. Was called up again and asked to do biometrics , 10 mins later i payed the fee ($255+$85) and then he asked for my address to put on the PGWP , asked if i had a medical exam (i didn't) and 10 mins later , he processed and printed my permit and handed it over to me. The Canadian border officers were very sweet. Didn't seem like they were in a bad mood either despite being a little busy with other people at the border. Just be patient - they're not making you wait because they want to, they're just busy.
Other than that , if you have any questions , feel free to direct them my way. I spoke to 2 different immigration consultants about this (one from my university and one externally). I will attach some advice i received from them here too :
- don't speak more than you need do. Flag poling and processing visa applications is not their primary duty , and they want to get done with it as soon as you do (or this is the impression i got) - answer questions concisely and completely. If there is some particular reason you are flag poling (apart from time related concerns), don't mention it unless asked.
- be patient
- carry all the required documents they think you could need or they might ask for (better to be prepared) , but only give what's required and nothing more. It'll just take more time.
- dress well. It makes a difference in how people perceive you even if you think it doesn't matter. i wore a blazer , shirt , dress pants and dress shoes ans was the only person there dresses like that.
- bring a snack and some water. A book if you want too. The US border office doesn't allow.the use of electronics in there so might be useful to do so if there's a wait. Maybe i went on a slightly busy day.
- try to find a Canadian citizen to drive you if possible.
Documents i carried :
- official transcripts (sealed from the University)
- degree completion letter
- passport
- study permit
- co-op work permit
- print out of health insurance covering the duration of my study permit
- proof of residence (can be a copy of lease, or DL)
- Bank statements from the last 3 months
- pay stubs from my part time job as a student (last three)
- IMM 5710 (complete , printed with bar codes)
I only required the first 4 really , but it's good to have all the documents and be over prepared. Only give what's required though..
Please feel free to ask any questions !

2023.05.26 01:37 onimush115 Carnival Magic 5 day Cruise from Norfolk, VA Impressions
My wife an I have been on 5 cruises int he past, all pre pandemic, and all with Norwegian. We recently moved to NC and live within a 2 hour drive to the Norfolk VA port. When I saw Carnival does cruises from that port, I booked one figuring we would give them a shot since being close to home it's just so much more convenient than flying to Florida. I had high hopes for it being a good cruise, hoping it could turn into our new home port. We booked a 5 night itinerary on the Carnival Magic, with stops in Bimini and Freeport. I paid $2200 for a balcony room. For anyone interested here are my impressions:
Embarkation:
We opted not to park in Norfolk. I had read reviews about cars getting broken into in the Carnival parking lot (it's supposedly since had improved security) and decided to get dropped off at the port. Once we arrived it was pretty apparent this was going to be a different experience than the big ports that run 7 days a week. It just seemed under staffed and disorganized. I was used to Miami and Tampa where everything just felt much more streamlined. Security seemed nearly non existent, none of the added things I had read about like dogs or more staff, just the standard metal detector.
The ship:
The difference is in the details. Lots of rust streaking on the outside of the ship, overall it just looked dingey. In our room there was dust on the ceiling vents, cabinets were chipped, some drawers had broken tracks. The bathroom door had a broken piston on the door so it would swing around (this did get fixed mid trip). The chairs on the balcony were bubbling and rusting. Lights took a long time to come on and some switches just didn't do anything.Though the ship was built in 2011 it looked like it was themed in the mid 90's. Gold and chrome everywhere, mirrors and the ugliest green dome lights lined the atrium. Whoever picked those out loved them because they put them absolutely everywhere. It was comically ugly.On the decks the chairs were in varying condition, some were new, but some were worn and and in need of replacement. One thing I did appreciate though was just the overall amount of seating. All throughout the interior of the ship and around the outside decks there was never any shortage of places to sit and relax.
Tv/Music:
This needed it's own category just because of how bad it was. I don't know if Carnival just has a nonexistent budget for licensing, but the music playing around the ship was bizarre for a Caribbean vacation. They mostly played 70's/80's rock music/pop. I was expecting more stuff that would just sort of set the theme of the vacation, like maybe island music in the lido buffet instead of Quiet Riot lol.The tv in the room had like 8 channels, 2 of which were movie channels. Most of the movies being played were not recent and many I had never heard of. They played some new movies on the screen by the pool, but even those they repeated. Other than that they had HGTV, Discovery and Food network, and a music video channel playing 80's music videos. It seemed to be the same 10 videos on loop.
The food:
The buffet food ranged from okay to gross. Usually we stuck with the salad bar because it's hard to mess that up. They had a "Deli" with "hand carved" sandwiches. I tried the Ruben only to find out it was a pre-made sandwich taken out of a drawer and put into a convection oven. It came out as a soggy melted mess with no thousand island dressing or sour kraut and ended up going uneaten. The Guy's Burger Bar and Guy's Pig and Anchor didn't really look like anything great. The burgers just looked like a backyard bbq burger. The free pizza option on board was surprisingly good and we had that a couple of times for lunch. Eating in the MDR was okay, the food was fine, but nothing great. The real disappointment was that the menu hardly changed, it seemed to only mix up one or two entrees.
We ate at both paid dining options. The Prime Steakhouse ($42 pp) and Cucina Del Capitano ($18 pp). Both of those were actually really good. I understand why people may not like the up charge options, but I enjoy them as an option to get a better meal. I actually wished they had more than the two options on board.
Disembarking at the islands:
This was a real mess. I was used to how Norwegian would handle this with assigned groups depending on what excursions you had booked. It would control the flow of people trying to leave the ship. Carnival pretty much just pulled up, opened the door and said "have fun" which resulted in standing in lines in hot stairwells for over an hour. We even waited quite a while before attempting to leave in Bimini since we had no excursions planned and still got caught in it. People were getting hot and grumpy and staff just seemed confused.
The Passengers:
Now I've heard Carnival get called "The Walmart of the seas" and I now know why. People were just rude and not well behaved overall. You could be waiting for an elevator and as soon as one opens someone will run right in front of you to get on. People would leave trash/drinks everywhere, like in elevators. I witnessed multiple couples fighting in public areas, you could hear people fighting in their cabins. No general respect for other passengers, adults running up hallways yelling at night/early morning (kids I could understand), slamming cabin/balcony doors constantly. I saw multiple people banging on doors to venues that were closed. People had their shoes off with bare feet up on furniture in the indoor seating areas. Guys with no shirts in dining areas, and all I could think about was the amount of body hair that may be dropping off them lol. People were being rude to staff and just giving them an attitude all the time.It just seemed like people didn't know how to behave in a public setting. I saw one guy wearing as shirt that said something about making women cum, another person had one on advertising a bail bonds company, it represented my local Walmart pretty accurately.
The staff:
The staff was excellent. Everyone was so nice and gracious. Never had an issue once with a staff member all week. The cruise director was fun and entertaining. They did seem a bit short staffed if anything, which sucks for the staff that is there. Cost cutting by the company will get taken out on them, but I think that is a trend industry wide at the moment unfortunately.
Overall the vacation was not a complete bust. If anything some of the downfalls made it kind of funny, so we just laughed about it. Like I said we enjoyed our specialty meals, so that worked out. The lobby entertainment like the violinist and solo guitar player were really good, so we enjoyed evenings in that area just getting drinks and listening to the music. It was worth it to experience another cruise line, but we won't be going back. There are too many other options to waste another trip on Carnival. We have a 5 day trip booked on the Disney Dream in January. We will see how that goes, otherwise it will be back to Norwegian since we've yet to have a bad experience there. I may get called snobby, but I think I wouldn't go on Carnival for the same reasons I wouldn't stay in an Econolodge or Super 8.
TLDR: Tried Carnival for the first time since it has a port close to home. It really is like the Walmart of the seas and you get what you pay for I guess. It was our first and last time sailing with Carnival.

2023.05.24 16:24 cjcunni2 Moving to Chicago from NC Suburbs
I’ve been following this subreddit for about 2 years. In that time I have become entirely detached from the idea of driving to every destination for any convenience over the next 50-60 years of my life.
I travel by car a few nights a week for work and can hardly justify jumping back in my car for ANY reason once I’m home. As lazy as it sounds, this prevents me from wanting to go to the gym, or even a park to spend time outside. Every third location requires a drive. The biking infrastructure in my city (Raleigh, NC) is essentially non-existent, let alone safe.
Charlotte, NC is basically the only NC city that has a halfway decent transit system that stands alone from a university transit system. My buddy has been living there for a while and whenever I visit we can do just about anything without having to get into a car.
From the first weekend there, I was hooked. It brought me back to college where every convenience and activity was a short walk or bike ride away.
Fast forward to a few months ago - my SO took a job in Chicago after graduating with her Master’s. Needless to say, I fell in love with the city after visiting her multiple times and when the opportunity presented itself within my company to transfer, I jumped on it. Sure, it’s more expensive, but it’s not exactly cheap to live in RTP right now either.
I couldn’t be more excited to begin this adventure in a walkable and bike accessible city.

2023.05.22 16:16 Dull-Training-3631 Should I go with ABCO or Martin transport?
June is coming up for my 2 year exp. I did about a year and a half doing SE Regional, and switched to driving for Aldis (they advertise $90k per year, im lucky to get half that) and it’s not cutting it. My wife and I are considering not renewing the lease for the next year and go over the road and save up a bunch of money and buy a house. My thing is, I got very comfortable at my last company and knew everywhere I could park. ABCO is offering $1300/wk minimum at .55 cpm, just FL, GA, TN, AL, SC and NC, but Martin is everything east of I-35, including the NE, no NYC, but .62 cpm. How do these companies operate? Any input helps

It has also been shown to adapt to weapons he wields, changing his appearance and sometimes giving him new abilities such as flight. His regen is faster in this form
Royal Guard:
Quicksilver
Doppelganger:
Energy Projection:
Misc.
Weapons:
Devil Sword Dante: After absorbing both the Rebellion and the Devil Sword Sparda, Dante created this sword. It is much stronger than both swords with several new abilities as well
Rebellion: Dante's signature weapon, it was a gift from his late father Sparda. Dante can channel energy through the blade and swing it a incredible speeds.
- Spin his blade at "propeller-like speeds" Prop-Description-DMC-4
- By swinging his sword he can send a "shockwave that damages distant enemies." Drive-Description-DMC-5
- Can send up 2 additional shockwaves
- Can perform a move called "Million Stab" which he stabs multiple times with "blinding speed" which creates enough momentum to blast enemies backwards. Million-Stab-Description-DMC-3
Force Edge: A powerful sword created and wielded by Dante's father. It is a powerful weapon that work similarly to Rebellion, but has hidden locked away power.
Alastor: A special sword that Dante acquires during the events of DMC 1. It can increase the user's speed and give them the ability to fly.
Ifrit: Powerful gauntlets that utilize hellfire as it's main form of attack. These gauntlets increase Dante's power overall
Nightmare-β: A Devil Arm that is just a smaller version of Nightmare, it can shoot green energy projectiles that bounce of walls. These projectiles can be charged, but firing from the weapon sucks up Dante's demonic energy.
Cerberus: A 3 rod nun-chuck that utilizes ice in its attacks, it was a gift from Cerberus
Artemis: A demon gun that shoots arrows made of concentrated light.
Agni & Rudra: Two living Scimitars that begged Dante to take them, they allow Dante to utilize powerful fire and winds to attack.
Nevan: A demonic guitar that uses electricity and bats as its main form of attack.
Beowulf: A set of gauntlet and greaves that flows with "sacred light"
Gilgamesh: Demonic metal that takes the form of gauntlets and greaves. It allows Dante hit harder and faster and absorb organic material and transform it into metal.
Pandora: A briefcase that can transform into 666 different types of weapons.
Lucifer: Demonic backpack holding two quivers, this back pack can spawn a seemingly infinite amount of explosive blades. The blades can be pulled from the quiver or just spawn around anyone/any thing the user wishes.
Balrog: Gauntlets and boots that allow Dante to punch or kick with hellfire infused strikes
Cavalier: A normal motorcycle that was infused with demonic armor. It double as a mode for transportation and giant buzzsaws.
King Cerberus: After taming an ever stronger version of Cerberus, Dante gains this 3-rod nun-chuck. It can use Hellfire, Electricity, and Ice to attack.
Dr. Faust: Shoots crystalized demon blood and enemies hit by it drops even more crystalized demon blood, refilling itself.
Ebony & Ivory: Pistol designed by Dante himself, each pistol is has a special purpose. Ebony is his long range arm, while Ivory is designed for quick drawing and rapid fire.
Shotgun/Coyote-A: A sawed-off shotgun using Buckshot as ammunition.
Grenadegun: This slow firing weapon shoots explosive shells filled with shrapnel.
Needlegun: A special weapon that can only be used while underwater, it fire multiple needles rapidly.
Missile Launcher: A rocket launcher that fires a guided Missile
Submachine Guns: Highly accurate dual wielded submachine guns, they are however weaker than Ebony and Ivory.
Spiral: An anti-tank Rifle, it is a very powerful sniper that Dante can do trick shots with.
Kalin Ann: A weapon loaned to Dante by his friend Lady, it very powerful rocket launcher. Later he finds it in the rubble and isn't shown giving it back.
Double Kalina Ann: Dante is gifted a replica of the Kalina Ann, and decides to wield both at the same time
Non-Standard Weapons:
Weapons Dante does use in game but are only wielded for a short while canonically. Only use this if OP is asking for EVERY Weapon Dante has ever used, not in a standard battle.
Sparda: Force Edge's true form, only unlocked by merging with the Perfect Amulet. This gives the user the very power of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, who single handily defeated Mundus and opposed all of Hell. While the exact power isn't known, it's safe to say it blows everything Dante has ever done out of the park. This power can be partially wielded by others, but only Dante can fully use it.
Yamato: Similar to Rebellion, it was a weapon crafted by Sparda and given to his other son, Dante's brother, Vergil. It has been used to open and shut gates to the Demon World.
Consumable/Items:
Throughout Dante's adventures he comes across items that aid him in battle that aren't specifically weapons
Amulets: In one of Dante's adventures he has a special amulet that allows him to equip magical stones called Devil Hearts. These stones altar his Devil Trigger without the need of a special weapon in hand. There are 3 types of stones: Movement, Attribute, and Support. Dante can use 3 stones at a time, 1 for each type. These items are featless beyond some gameplay changes.
- Movement Devil Hearts: Aerial Heart which allows the user to fly and Quick Heart which allows the user to move faster than normal.
- Attribute Devil Hearts: These stones add an element to all of Dante's attack while using Devil Trigger. The 3 Hearts Dante has are Flame, Frost, and Electro Heart.
- Support Devil Hearts: Healing Heart which gives Dante greater regenerative power, Offence Heart which increases his overall attack power, and Chrono Heart which allows Dante to slow down time at an unknown degree.
Untouchable: For a short period of time Dante is invincible and able to use his Devil Trigger non-stop
Devil Star: Refills a portion of Dante's magic
Vital Star: Refills Dante's health/stamina
Holy Water: Damages nearby demons and cleanses poison
Smell of Fear: Blocks 3 attacks from an enemy
Gold Orb: Should Dante fall in battle, this will revive him at 100%
Weaknesses:
Heart: As explained by a demon clone, if his heart is removed he'll die. Even damaging his heart is can incap him When trying to feign his death he told the shooter to avoid his heart. Later, he was incapped byby being impaled in the heart, only regaining consciousness after the sword was shifted. While he claims he was just napping, it'd be OOC for him at the time since a powerful demon was currently destroying an entire city full of civilians during his supposed "nap".
Cockiness: One of Dante's premier personality traits is his cocky attitude. However, his cocky attitude lets enemies land hits on him, however this is usually because he knows he's stronger.
- On multiple occasions he let low level demon land hits solely because he knew it wouldn't do much to him. As seen in the heart weakness above, he was taken out because he underestimated the demon he fought.
Non-resistances: While Dante has shown to completely ignore sitting on fire and walk around with blades tucked snugly into his chest. There are still certain types of attacks that will harm him and leave him vulnerable.
- While he can walk through fire and water like nothing, Ice based attacks still affect him. However, the ice he is most often affected by are similar to Hellfire, as they are all created by demons. Nightmare can create coldness that can "freeze magma"
- Lightning seems to effect him enough to immobilize him, but he can still fight through it and be okay after the attack. Another Example. Even a zap from Alastor can disorient him.
- Soul based attacks will affect him, but he can use Devil Trigger to ignore the pain it deals
- Dante needs to breathe
- Can be poisoned and drugged.
- Obviously, piercing type attacks. Swords, bullets, spikes, whatever always wound Dante. These are usually ignored because regening is his main defense to these attacks.
Anti-Magic: Dante's abilities come from his connection to hell, if that connection is severed he loses them
Stamina: As Dante takes damage, his stats slowly decline. So if he takes too much damage, he'll be far weaker and can be beaten by far weaker enemies.
Regen Limit: While Dante has shown to instantly regenerate from cuts and piercing based attacks. Larger scale damage takes longer to regenerate and can leave him handicapped.
Mind Control: It is shown the mind control works perfectly on Dante. In the 9th episode of the Anime, Dante willingly allows himself to be mind controlled by a demon and is only released after the item controlling him was destroyed by someone else.
Pre-[DMC3]: Before awakening his Demon Form, Dante would be weakened by being near the demon realm.

I am going to copy what I posted on google reviews - the whole experience is just awful - seeing someone I care about and respect being dehumanized is an awful feeling. I took some time to really think about what I can do to try to return some sence of, truth? Fairness? Jesus, there is there, really? Just another day, another story on the millions of racial profiling. This is America.
GOOGLE REVIEW POST, Bath and Bodyworks Morrisville park west village, nc
May 18th I had the worst scare - my friend and coworker of 6+ years walked into our place of work crying and shaking like a leaf after having a terrifying encounter at this BBW location. They had called the police and attempted to have her arrested for suspected shoplifting! The following is the best I can retell of her terrifying and dangerous experience. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS RACIST, EVIL STORE.
She had left work earlier sometime late in the evening to head home after a very hard day at work and decided to stop at this location to purchase a few things that had been advertised to her through the app, and this is the encounter the best she could tell:
She parked in the handicap spot (she has MS, has a handicap hanger) and went inside. Immediately, an employee greeted her and began chatting her up in a friendly way. Both my friend and this employee wandered through the store together as she asked about the app advertising a specific sale, smelling a few items, etc. This employee never left her alone (very important to note)
My friend was still in our work uniform, has a medical mask on along with our black store masks (she double masks due to her MS and related treatment). She had to drop them several times to smell items. There were 3 other employees in the store, totalling 4 - all watching and engaging with her in some fashion or another - full view while she shoped and made her way to the register with her chosen items. At this point, 1 employee stepped I to the back and disappeared. Note, everything was chatty and engaging up to this point.
Instead of scanning her rewards barcode on her phone, they register employee kept asking for her phone number. After an uncomfortable exchange, she exited the store to find a dark police cruiser parked next to her car. It is dark outside, she got in her car and looked up as the officer knocked on her window, asking for license and registration. Durring this exchange she saw all 4 of the female employees gathered at the front of the store, watching the exchange through the glass. In her words, they were all grinning, watching the scene and enjoying the show like a "gotcha"! moment. 2 of the women left the store, grinning and peeking at her and approached another police cruiser that pulled up. Providing more info? Who knows. Apparently they were off work and were heading out but still wanted to stay involved with this train wreck. My friends details get fuzzy, confused and now very, very scared.
My friend questions the officer, wants to know why she is being held up, and this @#$ &%$ calls for back up!! A tiny, heavly limpping, physically impaired woman!!! BACK-UP?! (Suspected shoplifting)
Oh, I forgot to mention she is black.
This woman has gone through heck. Between her advancing MS and all the medical treatments, having to manage our business, work 50+ hours a week, take care of her disabled mother, pay all her Bill's and her mothers, AND recover from the recent death of an immediate family member she is STRESSED. This racial profiling garbage could have got her killed- all for the sick enjoyment of 4 employees that watched her like a hawk and knew very well she hadn't stolen a thing.
The police not finding anything, and give her heck let her go (thank god!).
She came back to work in a state of shock, near puking scared and just in tears from the demoralizing/terrifying experience. I cannot express the helplessness, rage, fear I feel. No one should be treated like that- no one should be afraid for someone's sick enjoyment.
Would I personally like to see all 4 fired? Yes.
I know that the loss would most likely close the location, unfortunate but none of those women should be employed in any service position. I am scorched earth angry. The anger, fear and helplessness is immeasurable - how much more does she (my friend) have to take just to buy 9$ worth of stuff?
Do something Bath and Bodyworks- she called corporate after the police let her go - You have this incident on record. You know this is wrong. DO Something!
After thoughts: Is this pointless? Probably. I honestly don't expect this to make something happen. She deserves better for all life has on her plate - I feel experiences like this just fall into the void of shitty people, shitty life. I am eternally grateful she is ok and this didn't end up much much worse, but it hurts. It hurts so much.

2023.05.21 16:24 Square_Bowler_3436 I am so tired of having your specific superstition dictate what I can and cannot do with MY Sunday
Just had a neighbor tell me it wasn’t polite to work on my lawn on a Sunday morning. Motherfucker, I waited until 10am specifically because I didn’t want to bother my kind, chill, and younger next door neighbors because I don’t want to be woken up by lawn equipment either! And this dude had his truck full of workers out manicuring his prestige thousand dollar lawn yesterday morning at 8am! It didn’t bother me, but the standard is obvious: respect His Sabbath, to hell with mine.
I live in NC and the holy rollers already close the liquor stores on Sunday, don’t sell beer or wine until 10, and the main access road to the main street on my side of town gets backed up for over an hour every Sunday because off duty cops think that worshippers’ rights to drive out of a parking lot are more important than my need to go to the grocery store.
I get it, you don’t want to open to sell me a chicken sandwich on Sunday? (Even though that’s one of two fully available days for their all-teenage staff to earn money) Hey that’s your business, but don’t tell me what to do with half of my weekend.
Fuck, it’s time for another donation to the ACLU. (And yes, I’m aware that NCs worst just passed another abortion ban, but today I just want to mow and not get pissed by someone else telling me how to be polite)

2023.05.21 02:31 peds1 city or rural area?
Personally, I really don't care about driving 40 minutes away from home and delivering in small towns on the outskirts of the city. I deliver in Durham NC and I go to Garner all the time with absolutely no issues. Today was the first day I've ever done a delivery route in the city and it was wretched. Every building has an access code, no parking anywhere, and fiddling with half-working 3rd party lockers is so freaking frustrating. I've always finished my block at least an hour early most days an hour and a half early but not today it took the entire time.
Does anyone else here like driving far away? or do you wish for a city trip?

2023.05.20 02:49 throwawaym_n My sister assaulted me and my family is gaslighting me into thinking it's not a big deal (Vent)
So I (M) kinda had a low key traumatic experience happen a few days ago and kinda of want opinions on what to do. Not sure if this is the right subreddit to post to, but closest thing? So my father about a decade ago decided to assault me and choke me when I was had graduated high school (but was still legally a minor). I back then I had taken out a restraining order against him and have essentially not communicated with him since. But this post isn't about my father as he's cut from my life, it's about my adult sister (late teens/early 20s), who I'll call Gabe for this post, her actions, and how my mother and grandmother took it. Gabe is diagnosed with OCD and likely has Bipolar disorder, but the ladder has not been formally diagnosed and is simply an observation from non-psych majors and understand I'm in no position to make a diagnosis. The context is that I am a male in his late 20's still living with family (mom, siblings, grandparent) while attempting to get funds together to get a house in this ruined economy. Me and my family decided to spend a day outside and grab some lunch together. I ended up asking my sister to do a simple task as I was preparing to drive all of us to grab food. My sister goes into a rage and says "I can't because -insert bullshit reason-." Then slams the door shut behind her as she goes to the next room. I leave it alone and go about my business. As we attempt to leave the house I end up noticing that the door was left opened, so I asked who had left the door opened (as we have a mice issue in our neighborhood) and I unknowingly found out it was that same sister. She then screams incoherently, which kind of made it obvious as to who left it open. Again, not a big deal, I simply stated "there's a mouse problem here, just please remember to close the door." My grandmother leaves the house and leaves the door open, but I did not notice. This detail is slightly important because while I was adjusting mirrors and my grandmother entered the car, my sister then screams and curses me out saying "I didn't say shit when grandma left the door open" and I simply replied "I wasn't even paying attention at the time, what happened?" These details weren't apparent until a few seconds later. By this point my sister storms off and curses me out. The rest of the family decided to come to the car so we can leave. Just before my sister came back to the car I Boldy asked "Is there a problem? Because you're not gonna talk to me like that without hearing it from me." She then decided to start physically kick the back of my seat. Keep in mind I am in the drivers seat, yet we haven’t started moving yet. I put the car back into park and order her to get out of the seat behind me. I told to go anywhere else, but you can't be next to, or behind me. Really because she was literally kicking my chair, again while I'm in the driver’s seat. My mom, who was doing nothing, finally told her to leave after me ordered her to leave the seat behind me for the nth time and tells her to also leave that seat and go somewhere else. Gabe finally decided to leave the car, screaming, cursing and whatnot and then enters the car from the back right door of the car. She then half-enters the car and starts calling me a "Fucking (rhymes with hunt)" and said phrases like "Fucking kill yourself you piece of shit" then starts literally hitting me physically this time. She also declared her hatred for me screaming "I hate you" 3x or something like that. So at this point it was assault. Keep in mind, besides retaliating against her cursing and screaming I really haven't said much of anything to her all day at this point. Our conversations that day were strictly what i mentioned above this sentence. After she was hitting me, screaming at me, cursing me out, and demanding I kill myself. So after being cursed at, screamed at, literally being hit, and failing to diffuse the situation I got fed up and finally said "Fuck you, kill yourself you stupid bitch" She then took a water bottle and threw it at my head (with it opened ofc) and I ended up with a bruise on my noggin. I didn't lay a finger on her, I was so pissed I didn't even say anything I just went inside ad changed my clothes. But that's not where the story ends, she later goes to the police who was down the street when all this shit broke out. She then asked for EMS for herself because she was going thru a mental breakdown. She told the cops I told her to kill herself while conveniently forgetting to tell them it was in retaliation to being told the same myself by her. I was about to call 911 myself because at this point but I was talked out of it by my mother and grandmother, and tbh I honestly think they did so to protect her, not myself. So I'm pretty much assuming she is trying to setup a DV charge against me even though she was the aggressor when I had 3 witnesses with me. And I now felt the need to defend myself (verbally) as I could only imagine the police would eventually want to talk to me. I tell my mom to tell the police what actually happened and I eventually went out to chat with them as well. I told them point black I told her to KHS, but in retaliation and the events leading up to that whole situation. I overheard her telling mom "Oh so you're taking his side?" Which is a red flag to me, because it indicates that she is likely trying to build a case against me in some shape or form. It was evident she was trying to do something against me. While I understand she wanted to use the police to contact EMS, something about that comment just mentioned makes me think that she was trying to accomplish more than to patch thru to EMS. I honestly believe that if I did not tell mom to go talk to the police and if I did not confirm the everything that was said, that I would be in prison. According to the cop, what I said, mom ,and Gabe all matched. I wasn't ID'd and went back to my room. I fucking stupidly didn't ask for a police report because of how chaotic the situation was. But I did go to a doctor immediately and have it documented that I was assaulted and I have a bruise on my scalp. Between the next two days, this whole event had bothered me. My sister never apologized, and never will, So I cut off communications with her and told her she had put her hands on me just as our father had, and that I'm cutter her off just as I did him .I don't tolerate people who can't keep their hands to themselves and I made her know she was no exception. I told my mom this time, as I have told her before with far less serious encounters, that she never tells Gabe, as a mother, that she fucked up, that she should apologize, etc. It's my honest opinion that my mom is complicit with this behavior, even though she claims she does not endorse her behavior. I told her "Is it so hard to tell her you assaulted my son?" She has refused to acknowledge to my sister that what she did was incredibly wrong. This type of inaction IMO enables this behavior to manifest and persist. This is not the first incident I had with Gabe, but it is the first time it had become physical. I told mom also that I will not have a relationship with my sister and I really emphasized that I don't feel safe in the house with her (she has an option to go to her dad and she willingly wants to go). I also stated that having been even indirectly involved with the police was a massive issue with me. Because I feel that I was really close to potential arrest if the stars weren’t aligned. For example I wonder what wouldn't happened if Gabe decided to attack me when no one else was around. My mom told me to "get over it, it's been two or three days already". Gee thanks mom... My grandmother and mother also were discussing that it may have been partially my fault because I "asked her to do something" I walked up to them and cursed them out and told them "I have free speech and can curse any of you motherfuckers out any way I want to, and there's nothing you dumb fucks can do to me, What you can't do is hit me. Why don't you tell your explosive daughter to keep her fucking hands to herself." I was met with a "But she's sick, she's not well" And I replied "I don't give a fuck, I got fucking hit in the head I don't care about what she has anymore" So long story short I feel like I'm being gaslit as it was even partially my fault for shit breaking out like that, and gaslit into being told that my sister going to the police in a potentially disparaging manner wasn't a big deal. To me that could have gotten me arrested for no good reason if my sister was really trying to fuck me. I really feel like my family is bending over backwards for Gabe and doesn’t give a shit about me or my well being if it's at the expense of Gabe, even when she's the immediate cause. I pretty much feel completely alone. If that were the other way around since I'm Male and she's Female, had I put hands on her with mental health issues and all ,I would be booted tf out and in a prison cell rn and my family would sell me out. I walked away from this situation absolutely despising my sister probably for the rest of my life, but my mother and grandmother are currently on my shitlist. My sister pissed me off so much she’s not on my shit list, or any list for that matter. I’m NC’ing her from this point forward. I'm moving the fuck out asap btw, I'm not putting up with this shit I just need to leave this fucking toxic family. Gabe will become more violent and take out her shit one someone else, not me though, we ain't talking no more. I feel totally alone in this situation and everyone in my family is dismissing it, my friends are telling me to gtfo and that my family is no good from top till bottom.
