2023.06.03 03:10 CalicoIda Alice, Saya and Saeko play Ascension: Part 1

I've been thinking about this for a bit and I decided you know what I might as well have Alice and a couple of the other girls play Ascension and try to get to round 30. It was originally supposed to be Saya and Alice playing it but I decided to throw Saeko into the mix to spice things up. The first part will contain rounds 1-10.
Ascension as a map is easy! The reason behind it being easy is the fact that that the map has quite a few open areas where you could run around and gather the zombies into giant hordes and unleash everything onto them plus with some useful tactical grenades and overpowered wonder weapons, this can make for a fun experience.
It's three girls, two guns per girl, five perks (No Mule Kick) with one objective: Survive.
Alice, Saya and Saeko landed into the area with their Lunar Lander as they were trying to figure out where they were in this cosmodrone. Alice looked aroind as Saya tried to figure our what was happening.
"Hey who took the color away?" Saya asked while they were looking around.
"Help me." A voice called out. The three girls turned their heads to figure out who was speaking. "The mechanism must be repaired. Please, she's coming."
"Don't worry sir we'll try to help you." Alice called out to whoever said the mysterious voice that she would try everything to rescue it. "We only have three players and we need four. Who should be the fourth player?" Alice asked as they couldn't save this man with just three players.
"It doesn't matter Alice, let's try our best to have some fun." Saeko told Alice that having a full team of four wasn't going to really matter at this point but they should try their best to enjoy themselves.
"Well the time to have fun is now, I can hear them breaking in." Saya explaind to Saeko. It turned out Saya was right, the zombies were indeed breaking in. Alice went up to one of the windows and slashed a zombie open with her knife, the zombie went down Saeko and Saya did the same thing as they were slashing the zombies down with one blow. Eventually they finished slashing them as the next round began.
"We need to find the color to this map so I think there might be a big power switch somewhere." Saeko suggested that they should bring the color back as the black and white atmosphere was creeping them out.
"Which way should we go?" Saya asked if there were any ideas of which direction they should take. Alice walked over to where the M14 was and purchased it.
"Ahh it looks like it's you and me my friend." Alice told the M14 as she cocked the rifle.
"For now let's build up points and then we'll decide." Saeko told the group. The zombies began to come in again as the three girls drew their pistoles and began firing, with the starting pistols being weak it was easy to build up points. The three of them began firing away, trying to accumilate as many points as they could, Their pistol ammo quickly ran out as they had to resort to much more effective means. Saeko was knifing the zombies while Alice was picking them off with her M14. If a zombie got too close, she would knife it and therefore bring the zombie down. She reloaded as much as she could to make sure she had a full magazine in there.
"Gah pistol ammo is out. We need to go." Saya called out. She spotted a door right by the lander that costs 750 points. She went over and purchased it. The door opened as Saya went exploring around, trying to find where the power switch was. She went up the stairs and spotted one of the perk machines, a tall one that overlooked the area. She looked out of the rafters as Alice and Saeko were trying to fight the zombies off as best as they could. "They need help." Saya told herself. She went up the second set of stairs to another door that costs 1250 points. She touched it as she realized she was out of cash. Not enough there to open the door. She looked around as she desperately needed a gun. She spotted one right by where she was earlier. She went over and decided to purchase it for a thousand points. "It's not going to do much but it'll hold me over for a little while longer." Saya told herself as she purchased the PM63. She decided to head back down the stairs to help.
Saya entered the scene as Saeko was running out of ways to deal with the zombies and Alice was just racking up points with the M14. Saya began firing the PM63 trying to go for headshots. Eventually one of the zombies dropped a hammer as Saeko ran up and picked it up.
"Carpenter!" The voice called out. Almost like magic the barriers came back as this clowed the game down. At least everyone got a couple hudrred extra points. Finally out of the blue the structure in the center of the room began to spin the spinning continued to get faster and faster as the last few zombies were killed as their bodies were flung all over. The round ended as the next round began.
"Round 3 we need to turn the power on." Saeko reminded them that they needed to turn the power on.
"I have made a way there, let's take that." Saya told Saeko that they could go her way and get the power open.
"No don't! I'll explain later when the power is on and we get perks." Alice warned them to not open the door heading up the other stairwell. They nodded as they began to look around.
"What about that door heading out?" Saeko asked as she pointed to the one above the stairs. Saeko and Saya went over, up the stairs and to the door. Saeko had points but she had no decent weapon so she wanted to save up.
"This door?" Saya asked. They heard the moans of zombies that were starting to spawn as they were going to attack next.
"Yes!" Saeko shouted. She went over and purchased the 750 door and this lead them outside. She turned back to Alice who was ready to take the zombies on. "Are you sure you're going to be okay?" Saeko asked Alice.
"I'll be alright, go!" Alice shouted. Alice raised her M14 and began firing away at the zombies. She was desperate to buy Saeko and Saya time to switch the power on.
Saeko was trying her best to knife the zombies while Saya took potshots with the PM63, a round or two was needed as Saeko finished them off. Saya even went for headshots as it was the fastest way to get points. The two of them rounded the corner as Saeko went up and purchased the Mp5K from the wall.
"Something to hold me over for now until a better weapon is acquired." Saeko told herself as she began firing the sub machine gun at the zombies. She was helping Saya out as Saya purchased the next door. The two of them headed off as they followed the arrows to find the power switch. They found the door that was going to lead them to where Saya originally wanted to go. Saya raised her PM63 and fired at the zombies following them. She reloaded as they headed up the stairs. They were going to find the power switch today. Making their way up the stairs, they eventually got to the top of the stairs where another door was, It was 1250 points. Saeko bought it as this top door contained the Mystery Box. Saya went over to the Mystery Box while Saeko grabbed the power switch and flipped it on.
"Hey the color is back!" Saya shouted as she was happy with this revalation. Saeko nodded as she fired her Mp5K at the zombies. Saya was watching the Mystery Box flash the random guns it had as it was giving Saya the choice of illusion. Eventually the gun landed on the Galil as Saya takes it and traded her empty pistol away. "Well time to make them bow down before me without their kneecaps!" Saya called out. They watched as the rocket was being set up. After a few seconds they had set the rocket set up. "What next Saeko?" Saya asked. Saeko went over to the other door that costs 1250 points and purchased it. She had the most amount of points out of the group though she was starting to run out.
"We keep moving. We need to make sure Alice is still safe and hasn't gone down as of yet." Saeko told Saya that making sure they were able to keep Alice alive was the next priority.
The two of them headed down the stairs to see where they were going to go. Saya was shooting the zombies with the PM63 as the third round came to a close and the fourth round began. Saya was beginning to run out of PM63 ammo as she was going to use the rest of that up and hit the box again. Saya went over and purchase the 1250 door that lead up.
"Will Alice be safe?" Saya asked as she was keeping a look out for her friend.
"She hasn't gone down as of yet so she's doing okay but I don't know how well she is doing currently." Saeko told Saya as they past a green colored perk machine and the wallbuy for the M16. They eventually found one of the spots as Saeko spotted something strange and she went up to it. She purchased the Sickle for 3000 points.
"A farming tool to kill the zombies? I wonder how this would turn out?" Saeko asked while she twirled the Sickle around. One of the zombies approached Saeko and she quickly swiped it with the sickle, quickly taking it down. "Sickle does more damage than the knife?" Saeko asked, she was going to hang onto it. Saya went over and pushed the button.
Alice was busy fighting off the zombies but her M14 was becoming less effective, she had racked up a large number of points because of it but she was starting to get swarmed. She had been standing on the Lunar Lander when she felt a shaking and the gates went up.
"Woah woah woah!" Alice told herself as she was taken off balance. She was in for a ride. The Lunar Lander flew off to where it had been called. Alice looked around from her position as two thirds of the map had been opened. Eventually the Lunar Lander made touch down to the area where Saya and Saeko were.
"How are you Alice?" Saeko asked as she wanted to see how Alice was doing.
"Fine but I got a full magazine in the M14 and not much ammo left, I'm starting to run out." Alice told Saeko that she was running dry on ammo. Saeko swiped at the zombie with the Sickle while Alice fired away.
"Okay. Saya take this lander back. I'm going to take Alice to the box." Saeko gave Saya some objectives to take care of the Lander while she got Alice a better gun. "Come on Alice." Saeko told Alice. Alice nodded while she and Saeko went back to the Mystery Box. Saya activated the Lunar Lander which began to take her back to spawn.
Saeko and Alice went to the mystery box as they were going to have Alice replace one of her out of ammo guns. Since Alice and Saeko had made a lot of points, they were going to hit the box and try finding something better. They looked up to see one of the pieces of the rocket flash green.
"A rocket piece is green, what does that mean?" Alice asked as she didn't know what exactly this was going to mean.
"I don't know either. Maybe we should link up more landers." Saeko suggested. She got out the Mp5K and fired away to make more points. Alice went over as she was going to trade her empty pistol out for something to kill zombies. Alice went to the Mystery Box and decided to spend some of her points to find out what she was going to get. She looked in wonder as the guns were spinning around in her head trying to see what she was going to get. Eventually it landed on a gun and Alice took it.
"I still think this is my favorite shotgun." Alice told herself as she had gotten herself the Spas-12 from the box. She went up to a zombie and blasted its face in. The zombie went down instantly but for Alice it wasn't that much of a good pay off. "I need a point maker but I will hang onto this." Alice sighed. Saeko went over to the Mystery Box and tried to get something good from the box. Eventually Saeko got a bunch of wooden nesting dolls as her choice of weaponry.
"I don't know what these dolls will do to save a warrior like me? I think these will please the emperor." Saeko told herself as she had gotten herself the Matroyshka Dolls. Saeko was curious to see what these dolls were going to do but she was going to save them up for a large crowd of zombies thinking they had some kind of grenade in them.
Alice was dumping whatever ammo she had left in her M14 while Saeko went to rejoin her. Saya was busy doing the next Lunar Lander as she was determined to link all of them up. Saya nodded that they were fighting on. Alice used the last ammo she whipped out the Spas-12 and began firing it at the zombies. Saya spent more points on the Lunar Lander as it began to bring her back while Saeko attacked the Zombies with the Sickle.
"I'm going to open the last part of the map, try to find Saya and see what the next strategy is." Alice told Saeko. Saeko nodded before pulling out the Matroyshka doll and opening up. Out popped a doll into the crowd of zombies the doll exploded as those dolls underneath also detonated, wiping out the entire group in one go.
"Oh Cluster bombs." Saeko told herself. Round four has ended and Round five began. Saeko went off to find Saya.
Alice went to the left of spawn and made her way to the back end of the map. She finished reloading her Spas-12 and began to wonder how she was going to need points. She looked around to see if she was going to get another gun from the wall. She spotted something outlined in chalk. She walked up to the chalk and purchased the AK-74U to replace the ammoless M14. A couple of zombies approached her.
"Well I can't say that this is my favorite gun from the wall." Alice told herself as she cocked the AK-74U bolt. The zombies rounded the corner. Alice pointed the SMG at the zombies and fired into their heads, their heads popped off as Alice still had some points left over. Alice went to the door to the last lander and opened it. It was a huge area where rounding up the zombies was possible. She went to the Lunar Lander and called it over. The Lander arrived a couple moments later as Alice fired into the heads of a couple more zombies and did her best to get points. Eventually the Lander arrived as Alice got onto it, ready to take the trip back. She pressed the button as the gates went up and the Lander took off. "I'm going for a ride. WEEE!" Alice cheerfully called out. The Lander would eventually return her to Spawn as Saeko and Saya were busy trying to fight the zombies. When the Lander reached them. Alice pointed the AK-74U and finished off the crowd.
"Where were you Alice?" Saya asked. Saeko looked at the screen.
"Saya don't ask, look!" Saeko told Saya. "Alice activated the last Lander, the entire rocket is green and ready to take off."
"All right let's go get perks first." Saya told the group that getting at least one perk before heading off to activate the Rocket was important. She took off to the tunnel where she purchased the PM-63 and knew what perk they decided to get. They decided to go for the one that was located in the area by the PM-63 and stock up on perks. After getting what they needed. They prepared to head out as Alice and Saya killed the last couple of zombies, this triggered Round six to begin.
"So far so good, I'm going to look out ahead." Alice told Saeko and Saya, They nodded as Alice decided to take a look around but this round six was going to be their first challenge. "Uhh... why is the screen red?" Alice asked. Suddenly She heard something crash down. Alice quickly got out the Spas-12 thinking it was her way of killing the zombies. Then monkeys in spacesuits began to emerge from the pods and start heading straight for Alice. Alice felt like she was going to panic, she quickly fired the Spas-12 off as a warning, killing a monkey. Alice ran back to Saeko and Saya as if she didn't know what to do. Saeko spotted Alice coming fo them in a panic.
"Is there something wrong?" Saeko asked. Alice reloaded her Spas-12 as she wanted to have a full tube.
"Yes, monkeys are coming!" Alice told them. She turned around as the monkeys had made their appearance. Alice got herself ready as Saya had her PM-63 on standby which she had purchased more ammo for and Saeko had her sickle. Alice lined up her sight on a monkey and fired, killing it instantly. A monkey tried to attack Saeko but the latter jabbed it with the Sickle. Alice was blowing the monkeys up with the shotgun as Saya fired into a couple of them with her PM-63, Another monkey attempted to attack Saya but Alice turned and blasted the shotgun into the Monkey's face.
"Stay back!" Saya shouted before firing her PM-63 into another monkey. The monkeys continued to attack as Alice blasted the Spas-12 into more of the monkeys. It was her effective way of dispatching them as Saeko was using her sickle. Finally Saya shot the last monkey as an ammo box and a bottle had dropped. Alice reloaded her guns while Saeko went over and picked both of them up. they now had two perks as the second perk had been randomized for each of them.
"Max ammo!" The announcement had been made looks like they had. All of their guns had been magically refilled. Round seven had begun.
"Let's go turn that rocket on." Saya instructed the group. They began to make their way back to the rocket with Saeko leading the way as she slashed the zombies with the Sickle. Saya was supporting her by dumping out all of her PM-63 rounds into the zombies as possible. Alice was at the rear using the AK-74U to build up points. As they moved around to the rocket where they believed it was. They approached the power room where the Rocket was Located. Saya and Alice went to the mystery box while Saeko was slashing the zombies with her sickle. Saya had used all the ammo in her PM-63 and was ready to dump the gun entirely. She was the first to hit the box to see what she was going to get. When the jingle finished. Saya had become really excited to get the gun she was gifted.
"SAY HELLO TO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIEND! Oh wait... that's just me." Saya told herself excitedly as she had recieved the Thundergun, exchanging her PM-63. Saya went over as a large crowd of zombies as Saeko was being overran. With the click of the trigger, the zzombies were instantly killed. Saeko nodded while she was going to deal with the other side. Saya went up to the rocket and pressed the button. The rocket began to fly up into the sky as as someone had authorized its launch. Alice was had hit the box and was too busy watching the guns to really pay attention to what Saeko and Saya were doing which was watching the rocket fly into the air. Alice finally recieved what she needed from the box.
"Man this looks odd, might as well figure out what it does." Alice told herself as she had gotten the Gersh Device. Alice decided to head down to where the rocket was stationed and where it took off from. Saeko and Saya decided to follow as Alice killed the last three zombies. With their deaths, round eight had begun.
Alice had went down into the launch pad area where the rocket was as those doors had now been open. Alice went inside as if she had opened the final area of the map. There was a machine that was her reward that they had linked the Lunar Landers together. Alice quickly took out the Spas-12 as the zombies were breaking down the barricades.
"Well I don't want to be stuck loading into a game." Alice told herself as she placed the Spas-12 into the Pacck a Punch Machine. She had ground up enough points to be able to achieve a feat like this. Saya and Saeko had arrived as Alice was upgrading one of her guns.
"Alice what are you doing?!" Saya asked with concern. The zombies began to pour through the barricades while Pack a Punch Machine gave the gun back to Alice.
"Hey guys this is nice and shiny now!" Alice shouted as she held her Spaz-24 shotgun. She pointed it at a group of zombies, she fired it. It was a hybrid of an automatic rifle and a shotgun as it was blasting the zombies heads off. Best part of it was the fact that should reload it all in one go instead of reloading it individually. A large group of zombies made their way into the room as Saeko was curious about what this Pack a Punch machine could do. She got out her colt and placed it into the Pack a Punch Machine. Alice and Saya thought they weren't going to hold them off this time so Alice got out one of her Gersh Devices and activated it, she threw it at the feet of the zombies as they ran over it suddenly a purple sphere had been opened as the zombies were quickly being sucked into the Gersh Device. Alice being curious tried to figure out where this machine was going to take her. She ran over and dove into the Gersh Device.
"Alice no!" Saya shouted. It was too late Alice had disappeared as Saeko grabbed what seemed to be her starting pistol from the Pack a Punch Machine.
"Is it strange that the starting room pistol is turned into a dual wield grenade launcher?" Saeko asked as Saya was panicking. Saeko looked around while getting out her Mp5K and firing it at the zombies. "Has anyone seen Alice?" Saeko asked.
Alice eventually popped out as the Gersh Device was a black hole for the zombies but for Alice she must've survived this. Alice looked around as she spotted a perk machine and the AK-74U wall buy she had purchased earlier.
"I survived the portal trip I don't think I want to be doing that again." Alice told herself. Then round eight had ended and turned into round nine. The Zombies began to swarm around her as Alice got out the AK-74U and began firing it off as she needed the points. She was going to attempt to empty out the magazine if she was going to be able to change it for another gun. She reloaded as if she was firing it all off rapidly. Alice would eventurally dump out all the AK-74U ammo as she decided to get out the Spaz-24 and begin blasting her way through the crowd. The Spaz-24 was effective at its job maybe a little too effective. Alice was happily blasting away as whatever this pack a punch machine had done had made this shotgun beefy so strong that when Alice needed to reload, she had taken out everything around her. Alice went over to the Lunar Lander and tried to call it over. Eventually it came over and Alice got onto it. Then the Lander took off but Alice didn't push any buttons. The lander few up into the sky as she wasn't being taken back to spawn but rather to Lander site B where the Sickle was. When Alice landed. Saeko and Saya were waiting as Alice was relatively unharmed.
"Well what happened, we were so scared to have you not with us." Saya told Alice that she was more or less frightened to see where their friend went off to.
"I was teleported across the map when I went into that device. The zombies were sucked in which I was more than happy to find out." Alice replied about her experience. She went over and purchased the Sickle, Saya killed the last zombie as round nine ended and round ten began.
"Cool so we can all be teleported?" Saya asked. Saeko was in the mood to go to the mystery box to exchange the empty Mp5K she had. Alice definitely wanted to see the box again. Alice was also out of AK-74U ammo and she needed a good point maker to help balance her Spaz-24. She got out the shotgun and she began to blast her way through to the mystery box. The others were behind as Saeko was blowing up everything with his pistols from the rear. Saeko even got out onf of the Matroyshka dolls and tossed it at the horde, the cluster grenades exploded as the entire group was taken down. Alice and Saya were keeping their guard as Saeko decided to hit the box. The guns were flashing all over before Saeko was given a gun.
"I don't know if a medieval weapon would be useful for someone like me?" Saeko asked as she took the crossbow. She aimed at the zombies anf fired before reloading, moments later the crossbow bolt detonated and took out some of the zombies. "Explosive huh?" Saeko asked. Alice went to the box to trade out the empty AK-74U she had. She hits the box while the others were trying to take out the zombies. For Saeko she watched as it landed on something she wanted.
"This box loves me!" Alice told herself as she recieved a Spectre from the box. She decided to join the fray and began to spray the Spectre into the zombie crowd as they were trying their best to get points and to clear out the crowd. Eventurally Alice threw down a Gersh device and it sucked the zombies in. "Come on." Alice called out. She Saeko and Saya raced into the Gersh Device and were swallowed up along with the zombies.
Eventurally the three of them would land in the spawn room where they were once again fine.
"Wow I never knew something like this could be exciting, it's like going through a teleporter." Saya began. They got up to dust themselves off. the three of them didn't realize was the fact that they had killed the last zombie and the round was over. Round eleven was about to begin.
"We survived the first ten rounds, now what?" Saya asked. The rest of the game was up to their choices.
Going to leave this off as this took a while to type as it was just them setting up and getting the Pack a Punch door to open as well as dealing with the mechanics of Ascension. Next two parts wouldn't be as long as I will be skipping rounds as it would be just them killing zombies and monkeys. It will get repetivive if I go through round for round but I will be describing major actions like getting guns and upgrading them.
Also do not get the PM63, it's a waste of points as you constantly need ammo for it. Also there is a door on Ascension that you should not open its the 1250 door where the PM63 is and the reason the door should remain closed is when the monkeys spawn in they will take all the routes to steal your perks by keeping that door closed you're only giving the monkeys one route to steal your perks and you can defend two perks instead of one.
Rounds 11-20 will be the next part.

2023.06.03 03:00 DavidDawnDeluxe Stop being a secondary character in your own life, and become the hero of your life's story!

Hi, David here!
We often perform the role of secondary characters in our own lives, doing little to impact or direct the overall plot. In some cases, we even play the part of the villain by self-sabotaging ourselves. If this sounds like you, then it’s time to recast yourself as the hero of your own life.
The hero’s journey always contains struggle. Without a struggle to overcome, you can’t even be a hero. Be glad that having something to struggle over gives you this opportunity instead of complaining about it.
There are heroic choices constantly being presented to you. Think of how a hero would act when faced by them.
Would a hero introduce himself to a cute girl sitting at a coffee shop, or choose to say nothing and have the opportunity forever slip away?
Would a hero hide his true beliefs and desires, or unapologetically let them be known?
Would a hero work to get better, or instantly give up at the first sign of defeat?
Be a catalyst for things occurring. Organize events. Be the one that asks others to join you in doing something. And if no one else wants to join an activity, be brave enough to still do it by yourself.
Don’t wait for someone or something else to save you. Do your own bit of saving.

Adding to that, I just finished putting together my dating eBook "How to Date Any Girl" version 4.0 and would LOVE to get some honest feedback from you!

2023.06.03 02:55 JaneDi A response to the post "I do not believe that MJ is the bio father"

A response to the post
https://www.reddit.com/MichaelJacksonLegacy/comments/13p0tb4/i_do_not_believe_that_mj_is_the_bio_fathe
I wasn't going to respond but since this post is being reposted around in MJ spaces and it's filled with misinformation. I will respond to the incorrect statements.
But this is not a strong enough defense for PPB being MJ's, specifically Paris. Debby's eyes are blue and this is the most logical reason why Paris's eyes are also blue. People like to bring up that because Joe's eyes are green (they are not blue, they are green) and believe he carries the allele for blue eyes, hence why she has blue eyes. This is a weak defense because light eyes are caused by the lack of melanin being developed. All eyes are blue underneath. Green eyes are the rarest eye color in the world, even more rare than blue. Also, both green and brown eyes are dominant over blue eyes. I'm not discounting the possibility of the recessive gene taking over, but I find it highly unlikely that she would have blue eyes if Mj is her father. Katherine and Joe had 9 children together who all had dark brown eyes. (also in order for there to be a 50/50 chance of a child having blue eyes, one parent has to have two parents with blue eyes and the other has to have one parent with brown and the other with blue. Joe has green eyes, which reduces this chance even lower).
This entire passage is just.....clunky. But I will try my best to unpack it.
For starters. Paris, like Joe does not even have completely blue eyes. Her eyes can look blue or green depending on the lighting. Since her eyes can look green sometimes, but there are no pictures of her mother eyes looking green it's fair to say her eyes are probably in between, so a greenish blue.

https://preview.redd.it/6ylelrdnto3b1.jpg?width=885&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05a022c491986ebec10dc7204605e222f698ea9b

Since OP's argument is built off of the faulty claim that Paris has strictly blue eyes, I will address that anyway. Joe has green eyes because his mother was half white and his father was mixed race as well. So it is not crazy or unreasonable to assume that Joe has blue eyed genes as well.
And even if Joe didn't have light colored eyes. And even if Paris had ice blue eyes, you can go on Instagram and find literally thousands of biracial kids with bright blue eyes. It is not rare nor is it impossible.
The blue eyes argument is a fallacy anyway because even if Paris had the same eye color as Michael, OP would still say she is not Michael's daughter just as she does with Prince and Bigi who both have the exact same eye color as Michael.
The goal post is forever moving.

PPB are tan
This is a common defense that I see used. The classification of being Caucasian goes far beyond having pale skin and blue eyes. There is a difference between what is widely seen as "white" and the racial classification of being Caucasian. The term Caucasian covers the phenotype and racial makeup of a group of people, regardless of their skin color. In anthropology, it is referred to "as some or all of the populations of Europe, the Caucasus (a region in Europe between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, which includes Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and parts of Russia, Turkey and Iran), Asia Minor, North Africa, the Horn of Africa, Western Asia, Central Asia and South Asia." Even though we are all one "race" the human race, you can tell the racial identity of a person by their skull. I studied forensic anthropology in college, and scientists were able to tell the race and gender of the remains of skulls and bones. I went to predominantly white schools and saw girls and guys that were naturally Paris's complexion and Prince's as well.
This is a faulty argument because none of those people have anything to do with Prince and Paris. The only white person they should be compared with is their mother, who contributed 50% of their genes, and others of her background. Debbie Rowe is not from Turkey or North Africa. She is of Northwestern European stock. British to be exact and very likely she has significant Scandinavian ancestry like many English people do, due to the Vikings invading.
When you compare Prince and Paris to their mother or people of her background you can clearly see that they are not the same ethnicity.
Paris compared to mom Debbie,

OP should realize that just because you can find some Caucasian people who look like Prince and Paris, it's not proof that Prince and Paris are not biracial. The same can be said for this girl, This girl is also biracial and as you can see she looks very similar to Prince in terms of hair texture, facial features, skin color. She and Prince could be twins. The black woman in the picture is her biological mother.

This is a logical fallacy called a red herring. A red herring is when irrelevant information is presented alongside relevant information, distracting attention from that relevant information. For those that are unaware, people often like to use other celebrities that are unrelated to Michael to try and prove their stance on his kids. These are often celebs that they deem as "passing" (some are others are not ). The most common celebrities used are Rashida Jones, Sophia Richie, Alphonso Roberio (his kids), and Derek Jeter. All are very weak defenses.
How is it irrelevant when the whole argument that Michael isn't the father is based on the claim that they don't look like other biracial people?
How is it a weak defense?
Rashida Jones looks like her father and has some of his features. Considering her "passing" is a stretch, she is noticeably tanner than PPB and looks like she has Hispanic ancestry (yes, i know that's not a race but i think people know what i mean by that).
This is not a valid argument. Looks are subjective. It's simply a matter of opinion and ones own perspective. Rashida was on a family roots show and she looks strikingly like her Maternal grandmother. I personally do not see much resemblance to Quincy. Rashida is also the same color as Michael's kids. Bigi is actually darker than her. Bigi is often assumed to be Hispanic as well. I have seen People comment that Prince looks hispanic as well, even people who don't believe Michael is the father.
And notice OP just went through a whole spiel about white people having tan skin and caucasians can be dark and then turned around and used Rashida's tan as evidence that she is biracial.
Goal post is just swaying in the breeze.

Alphonso Ribeiro's children are probably the "best" defense but still prove nothing in regard to PPB. His sons look like him, one of his sons does pass for sure but he does look like his father. His youngest daughter passes as well, and though she does not like much like him, she does have a few features around the mouth area.
Again this is subjective. I think Michael's kids have his features as well. OP will say otherwise. I see what I see and others see what they see.
And this does prove something, because again the whole argument against Michael's kids is that they "look white" and biracial people can't look white.
Derek Jeter does not look like he passes when he has hair. He also does resemble both his mother and his father.
From what I can see Derek Jeter has big wavy curly hair, Much like Prince and Paris. So im trying to figure out how he wouldn't pass. It's not like he has an Afro.
Jackie's Twins
This was the best place to put this. The only logical way to compare PPB to anyone's children is Jackie, since he is MJ's brother and the only one to have children with a white woman. One of Jackie's twins looks just like him, and he does not pass at all. The other twin does have green eyes and straighter hair, but he does resemble Jackie in the mouth and teeth area. I would not consider him passing either. His wife has a very similar phenotype to Debby as well. The second son (green eyes) looks more like her but to me, he does not pass.
This is also a silly argument to me. Because Full siblings and even twins can come out looking like 2 different races. So I don't see how this proves Michael isn't the father of his children.

https://preview.redd.it/lizhhzyacp3b1.png?width=2500&format=png&auto=webp&s=e03c840e6d63770085ee213ff78ef4f9905394f1
Also Jackie's son has the same eye color as Paris. Why OP is trying to pretend like he doesn't is beyond me.

The only pictures that I see of Mike and Paris are those of MJ after plastic surgery and with lighter skin. There is only one or two that use any pictures of MJ before any alterations (the Jackson era). Paris looks nothing like MJ. People use photos mainly for the teeth. All I have to say is they looked nothing like his before she had braces. I will move on from this.
Prince also does not look like Mike at all. Prince does not look all that much like Samuel Jackson. I do not see it and I am not in "denial". I have seen other pictures of Joe's father and I do not see a resemblance.
Paris looks nothing like Latoya, I mean I can understand the Prince and Samuel one a little bit, but this one is just very far off.
More subjective opinions. I see Michael when Paris smiles. Prince looks identical to Samuel in my opinion. I also see a strong resemblance to Joe and some of his cousins on Joe's side of the family.
OP doesn't see it. I do. I am not "in denial" either. When Paris was a little girl I use to think she looked nothing like Michael. And I admitted that. Now I see the resemblance. It is what it is. I can't make OP see what I see and OP can't make me not see what I see.

This piggybacks on what I said earlier about differences in racial groups when it comes to features. Afro and Eurocentric features do exist. I have seen people try and call others "ignorant" for pointing this out when this is true. There are literally follicle differences between the makeup of Asian, Caucasian, and African hair. "Asian hair grows from a round hair follicle, while Afro hair sprouts from an oval one, and Caucasian hair follicles vary." The article also states, "Asian hair is usually bone straight, Afro grows in a spiral-like fashion, and Caucasian hair can be anything in between". Afro hair grows out from our scalps in a parallel manner and sits out like an afro. There is a difference between having curly hair and having an afro. African hair has a high sebum production which leads to a far more oily scalp than Caucasian and Asian hair. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7869811/
This information in irrelevant because biracial people can have hair anywhere in between their parents and even inherit a grandparents hair.
Not sure what this is supposed to prove.

People like to point out that Paris has "naturally curly hair", and I have evidence to debunk this exaggeration. I just shared facts on how Caucasian people can have naturally curly or straight hair. I have seen Caucasian women with their natural hair that was thick and "curly" like Paris (her hair is not even that curly). A great example is Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries. Her hair was very thick and curly. I am also not blind nor am I an idiot, I know Paris dies her hair blonde.
One of the main arguments always used against Paris and her brothers has always been "they don't even have curly hair"
But when it's pointed out that they DO have curly hair, the goal post is moved yet again.

OP said that other white passing biracial people are irrelevant to the discussion, but constantly uses certain white people as evidence for their argument. Interesting.
Anne Hathaway is not Paris mother, Debbie Rowe is and Debbie does not have curly hair. Debbie has straight hair.
Anne Hathway also has curlier hair than Rashida Jones who has bone Straight hair as a child and still does, unlike Paris.

I have also seen people use the photo of MJ in the late 70s when his hair was wet and curly. Idk why people use this, as my hair literally looks just like his when wet and I have slightly more African makeup than Mike due to me being two generations younger than him. I have very similar racial ancestry to him. This is irrelevant though, because all you have to do is go on youtube and look up black women washing their hair, many have the same curl pattern. Also, I have met African women (their ancestry is 90-100 percent African) that have the same curl pattern. I believe people use this to try to push the "not fully black" narrative on Mike, but they don't know that wavy or curly hair is not exclusive to non-black people.
I've never seen anyone use Michael's hair texture as proof for the kids paternity. Like ever. I have seen people use it when other claimed Michael has "4c" hair when he clearly didnt.
I use the kids curly hair as proof of their paternity, even though biracial people CAN have straight hair.

I already made a post on this and I debunked this myth as well. The average black American is only 77 percent black. The Jacksons are no less black than about 50 percent of black people their age. The Jacksons are probably between 65-70 percent African. That's slightly less than the average black American person of today.
And that means that Michael had European ancestry and "white" genes that could have easily matched up with their white mothers genes and gave them the appearance they have.

I have seen the photos with Prince and light marks. Until it comes out of his mouth that he has vitiligo, then this is still speculation. If he does have it, I'm not delusional, this would sway me towards Prince bc it's highly unlikely that he would have it if MJ were not his father. This also very well could be birthmarks.
TJ Jackson was Prince's legal guardian which means he was privy to what happened when Prince would visit the dermatologist as a teen (and he photographed by the paps at the dermatologists multiple times as a teen) and TJ says Prince has vitiligo. So no it's not speculation.
And lets just tell it like it is. If prince went live on his Instagram page right now and shouted "I have vitiligo" O would say he was lying.

This concludes my stance on this topic. Some people may ask "why do you care?" but that can be used against those same people on different topics concerning MJ's life. I don't dislike his children and I do not care about the race or color of the children that he had. I also know that even if it does come out that he is not the father, it changes nothing because he loved and raised them. This could pose an issue because at least as of 2023, you can not "identify" as a race. Paris told Willow Smith that she "identifies" as black. To me, if she were why didn't she just say that she was black? Biracial people do not "identify" as anything, they are considered biracial and they are part of two races. What inspired me to make this post was the bullying that I have witnessed on this subreddit in regard to people who have this belief. I will not be dismissed as "bitter", "hateful, "insecure" or all this other crap, just because I disagree with anyone on this topic. I feel that all voices should be able to be heard on this issue. Like I said I have no problem with anyone who disagrees with me, as long as you remain respectful.
She has. She's also stated that she is mixed.
This is just grasping at straws.

2023.06.03 02:43 nouramarit How can and should I ask my GP for a referral?

So I'm 15 years old, about to be 16 in a month. I have an appointment in three days with my GP so my mother and I can discuss my difficulties and ask for a referral to a professional who can diagnose ASD. I feel totally unprepared and I don't know what I should tell my doctor and how I should explain my thoughts without sounding like a self-diagnosing teenage girl who's just seeking attention. My mother is an immigrant who speaks the local language poorly, and since I'm fluent in that language, I will be the one who'll talk the most.
So some of my difficulties are very obvious social deficits. I don't have any friends at all, and the last time I had one was in 4th grade of elementary school. Even before that, I could not maintain friendships. As a toddler, I would shout at other children for changing the order of anything in the house, as a preschooler, I would stare at the features of blocks instead of playing with others, as a Kindergartner, I had a friend, but I didn't play with her because she often played house with other kids and I didn't, so our friendship didn't last beyond Kindergarten, in 1st grade, I used to walk with some other girls during recess until they told me that they didn't understand why I always walked with them and why I couldn't pick up that they didn't want me to be with them. In second grade, I was mostly alone. I continued to have friendships that only lasted very few months, and the longest friendship of mine lasted a year.
I struggle greatly at school when it comes to interacting with my peers, I don't make eye contact with anyone and can barely force it, my body language seems awkward and I often misinterpret social cues, I just fidget with my hands and look at the wall, which makes me come off as rude. Other times I don't understand what my peers mean when they say something, e.g. when a classmate was criticizing the fashion choices of a guy and was angry that I didn't understand that that meant that she liked him. I have difficulties with conversation. I often treated or wished to treat people as "props" with whom I can share my interests with, thus just talking and leaving no room for my partner to communicate. Other times I'll just listen and not answer questions, or just answering with a "hm". I often don't initiate conversations anyway, and I don't have an interest in forming friendships or other relationships with others. I remember often being confused or annoyed when I realized that other people weren't like me, they didn't share the same thoughts and for some strange reason, I disliked them having a different voice than mine and being their own person. I would rather talk to a clone of my own self.
My lack of social skills have caused me issues. I was bullied relentlessly from 5th-8th grade. I live in Germany and you transition from elementary school to "middle school" (not exactly but it's not that important) and the transition was very difficult for me. I didn't socialize with my classmates, I stood out due to my behavior of often being overwhelmed in class, fidgeting or drawing lines in my notebook and not following the lesson. We were about 20 children in my elementary school class, but in 5th grade, we were about 30. My classmates being children, they were very loud and I remember resting my head on the desk and covering my ears. That then turned into my classmates spreading rumors about me, telling them to the teachers and the teachers believing them. I was excluded and whenever a classmate was ordered to work with me as partners, they refused. I was sent to the school counselor as the bullying affected me more and led to many absences. My school counselor advised my mom to take me to a psychologist or therapist, which she did. My mom brought up my hair pulling and social difficulties to the therapist. My therapist talked to me and advised me to simply make friends, even if they did not share my interests and determined that I did not suffer from a diagnosable mental health condition, but that I would benefit from therapy. I didn't continue seeing her. Years later, I still struggle with absence from school, burnout and sometimes, school refusal. I can only function academically for a certain time until I go into burnout. Nowadays school is just sitting alone in the corner, covering my ears and asking the teacher to turn the lights off, if I go anyway. If you're absent from school, you're told to ask a classmate to bring you everything you missed, but that obviously doesn't work for me because I don't have friends to do that, neither is it easy for me to ask. No teacher has ever sympathized with that. One teacher even blamed me for being bullied once, saying that I was the one responsible as I was "making myself an outcast". School is really difficult, and no matter how hard I try, it stays difficult, mainly due to my sensory issues, fear of change, burnout and lack of social skills.
Another thing that is really bothering are my sensory issues. My sensory issues are annoying everyone around me. I can't handle noise, I can't handle bright lights, I can't handle many textures of food (e.g. red meat feels like a carpet, mixed foods are too much, so is a burger, for an example), I can't wear shirts that aren't 100% cotton, I can't sleep with tank top or a t-shirt because I hate the feeling of my blanket on my bare skin. I can't go to a store without having to cover my ears and close my eyes, I fight with my family on a daily basis because I want them to be quieter or to turn the lights off, because even the light in my own house can send me into distress. Too much sensory stimuli can send me into an outburst of uncontrollable screaming, crying, and throwing things. For an example, I had a sports event at my school in late April this year. Fans could win a prize if they were the loudest, so logically, people were shouting, jumping, and there was loud music. I had to cover my ears, close my eyes and twitch physically, until I got home and had to deal with a loud family and light, until I had an outburst. This happens so frequently that my mom has a name for these outbursts. My family expects that I simply "give up" my "habits" and just stop bothering them with my sensitivity to light, to sound and to textures. But I can't. I can't just decide not to. My mom refuses to buy me noise-cancelling headphones, even the cheapest ones that cost like 20€ because she considers them to be a waste of money.
But I'm really struggling. I really need a diagnosis, even if it's not an ASD diagnosis but something else. Self-diagnosing would bring me no benefits because I want to be accomodated, not to identify with some kind of disorder. My mom "wanted to talk" a month ago and she told me that she thinks that I have Asperger's syndrome. I researched ASD and do think that an assessment would be helpful. Any idea on how to explain all of this to my doctor? Should I translate what I wrote and print it out? Should I go into detail like I did here?

2023.06.03 02:38 Complete-Mongoose405 Who else could be a faceless man?

With the way the faceless men work, anyone in the story, besides pov characters could be faceless men. Who do you all think could be one?
I think Margaery Tyrell could be one because of a weirdly worded paragraph in Cercei chapter 24 of AFFC. It goes:
( "Who told you that?" Cercei took a deep breath, so Dorcas could lace her up more tightly. She was a big girl, much stronger than Senelle, though clumsier as well. Tommons face turned red. "No one told me." "No one? {Italicized} is that what you call your lady wife?" The queen could smell Margaery Tyrell all over this rebellion. "If you lie to me, I will have no choice but to send for Pate and have him beaten till he bleeds." )
Just a weird paragraph, makes me think that Tommon and Cercei are talking about faceless men. Cercei talks about Pate, which alludes to the prologue about faceless men and Pate the loser or whatever. And Cercei and Tommon both call Margaery "No One"

2023.06.03 02:27 Beautiful_Repair1771 My reviews for OT 1 - 2

I didn't speed read if you that's what your thinking, i just left off on OT 4 for a while and decided just now to continue.
OT 1: Beautiful introduction to the series, really gives off the vibe of what the whole series is going to be like. Pre memory Touma was a freaking savage, like he did not give one ounce of a crap when talking to Misaka and it was so hilarious to read. Also the rumors are definitely true when people said that index(the character) was better in the LNs and i feel like it's due to the difference between a light novel and a anime, and because the producers thought "ohoho funny index biting Touma and acting and annoying". I also like how there was no real villain or antagonist in the volume, which is a recurring thing that happens through future volumes, and I'll admit I'm a sucker for those types of cliches. Also the first fight between Touma and styl was freaking epic and I love the internal monologue Touma gives himself about wanting to save index, which pushed him to go back and fight styl. And I love the relationship between Touma and index, it was so cute. Overall 10/10 Amazing introduction to the series.
OT 2: A amazing continuation to the series. I know people say that this volume is useless because the ideas that happen in the volume don't continue to future volumes. Well I'm here to say that they are completely wrong, sure things like vampire's haven't appeared yet in the series for so long, but that doesn't mean the volume was "useless" It dived into Touma's continuing inner conscience about him lying to index and having to act as a "different" Touma for her and trying to find out who his past self was. I also like others really like himegami because 1 she's very pretty and beautiful and makes my heart go "Doki Doki" and 2 I like quiet girls in anime and 3 I loved her backstory of how she was cursed with feel blood and how that made every vampire including her family die, and how she joined izzard because she wanted to help others instead of harming others. And I loved Touma's monologue about how himegami saved him by going with the thugs that came to get her like "Oh no she did NOT just do what I think she just did". And like other loved the infamous scene with Touma and the fake izzard which was a freaking rollercoaster of a read because of how tensed it is, and when Touma went into Berserk state because of the girl that sacrificed herself for himegami gave me literal chills. What also gave me chills was the line "Are you done having fun yet?" When Touma caught up to fake izzard and tried to choke him to death, and this is where we see Touma's "Moral code" of not killing anyone. I also liked izzard as a character because he was supposed to be Touma if he didn't succeed in saving index, and he was her teacher. Also need I say anything about Touma vs Izzard except for "Oi Alchemist. You bastard. You didn't think that you destroyed IB just by cutting off my arm did ya 😈" 10/10 Volume
This is getting to long so I'll continue OT 3-4 later. And if your curious I'm on the 2nd chapter of OT 5, and if your also curious as to why I've been holding off on reading these 1. School. 2. I've been getting into other series as well. 3. It's kinda hard to read something when you know what's going to happen, even if do miss out on alot of stuff you know. But it's summer so I got a lot of time to read and do other stuff.

2023.06.03 02:21 Neighborhoodgamer LETS FUCKING GO IM DMING A ELDRITCH HORROR CAMPAIGN!!!( i need some help)

finally i can run a Game like this i already wrote A lot of lore made multiple cities ,created 2 classes and a bunch of other sub classes and we just had our session 0 like an hours ago and I’ve been giggling like a girl ever since,i explained the setting And showed The sub classes and my 2 classes(the hunter and a summoner)each Has 2 subclasses
-the hunter:the nightmare of the old gods:the Hunter of the old blood
-summoner:fleshcaller:necromancer(I created this thing called summon slots which are just spell slots but a little different and it doesn’t matter what level the summon slot is just how many you have)
there’s a few more like a warlock subclass Called the host of the demon And a fighter subclass called the executioner Which mainly focuses on Breaking the limbs off its enemies or just cutting them off I think it’s a cool idea if you deal enough damage to A certain body part of an enemy you can just chop it off I made more sub classes than this but these I think Are my favorite ones
i have 6 party members(it’s a little too much for my liking but it’s fine)they chose to make
-a hunter of the old blood(basically a beast hunter)who’s family and village were slaughtered by bloodthirsty beasts So he became a hunter(I plan to get him infected with the scourge and he’ll have to battle it and his urge to eat)
-a hunter of the old gods who lost everything and has basically nothing to live for so he prayed to a great one which is an eldritch god which made a deal with him he basically hired him and made him kill other lesser gods for him(I think the idea is awesome for a character so I allowed it)
-an artificer who prays to a machine god which encourages you to replace your body with mechanical parts To ascend to a higher plane of existence and he also has a gun a sawed off shotgun to be specific
-a flesh caller Who can talk to his summons which are horrific monstrositys of flesh And I homebrewed basically every monster you could summon And you get some cool abilities as a flesh caller when you Level up you can make weapons out of blood And flesh and create wings for you to fly by the point your level 10 and this guy wears a red cloak and covers his chest in flesh
-an executioner who Basically is just doing his job there’s not much to say I guess my player got lasy with his character creation maybe later he’ll Show me his backstory later he also just Wear a block cloak and some heavy armor which covers his face and he carry’s a giant great sword
-a vile blooded knight of the nobles whos loyal and powerful and a fighter subclass who have special weaponry like a powerful light metal armor Infused with blood of a noble and an infused katana which can turn blood red and make you take bleed damage called the chikage and it’s 100% my idea fr fr No cap No one has done this before me
i also made another mechanic sanity the more insane you become the more monstrous you are it’s different for each player theyll each turn into A different monster ,then have to go and face their party When they cant resist the urge Anymore and they’ll have all their old abilities plus the abilitites they gained from becoming monster like the flesh caller will become a giant Monster of flesh which can still summon monsters and the beast hunter will become a bloodthisty and terrible beast much worse and powerful than any normal beast
and the campaign starts in a village(which I haven’t named please help)where children are constantly disappear in the night And that’s gonna be the first quest Finding the lost children and then after it they’ll face a cult of flesh callers who are creating a giant failed abortion of a god
but the main city Is where the campaign is gonna take place most of the time And I also don’t have a name for it(please help give me names)it’s basically yharnam it’s infested with beasts caused by a plague Which was born from cursed blood of a great one and there are tons more horrors Like whats under the city which is a large graveyard where giant monstrosity’s Called elder things which are experiments of a cult trying to ascend to the level of the great ones and failing miserably which ends up in their downfall turning them into horrific eldritch Beings that can’t speak and are in constant agonizing pain and they also look like bugs
i also made a new race called vile bloods(I completely just robbed the idea from bloodborne just made a few changes)they have a ton of lore I wrote but I can’t write it all here so I might make a separate post
-any ways the main goal is to kill great ones Which are eldritch gods which ascended higher than any being has ever done before and there gonna be the best boss fights ever also I know I reread my own paragraphs and I know how shit my writing is I’m sorry Im Just excited

2023.06.03 02:20 evandav13 Gilberto Perez on COLLEGE

From The Material Ghost: Films and Their Medium (1998).

"Nothing in the strange world of Buster Keaton's comedy is stranger than the ending of College (1927). In that picture Buster plays a bookworm who strives to become a jock. The top student in his high-school class, and so averse to sports that he makes his graduation speech into a diatribe against athletics, he yet arrives at college the next fall with suitcases full not of books but of athletic equipment. With the dauntless determination characteristic of the Keaton hero, the little scholar involves himself in a pursuit for which he's quite unsuited but which is, under circumstances equally characteristic of Keaton, what's expected of him in his courtship of the girl he loves. Outraged like all his other classmates by his diatribe at graduation, she'll see no more of him, as she promptly informs him after the speech, unless he changes his attitude and takes up sports. And so he changes his attitude, neglecting all his studies at college and instead spending most of his time on the sports field. Although he seems inept beyond hope at the various athletic activities he doggedly tries out, he succeeds in winning her in the end, for he summons up unexpected abilities when she's in danger and he comes to the rescue, running much faster and jumping much farther than he ever could before, managing with no trouble now an obstacle race over the hedges in his path and a high pole-vault into the window of her room. With undiminished momentum, he quickly disposes of the villain, a brawny dolt who has been his rival for the girl's affections, and proceeds with her to church forthwith, not even pausing to change his athletic clothes before they are married. Then follows a very peculiar epilogue. No sooner are the newlyweds out of church than a dissolve transports us many years later to the middle-aged couple in their home, sitting among their several children; this in turn swiftly gives way to the couple in their advanced years, abidingly sitting at home beside each other; this in turn to the closing shot of their adjacent graves.

"The element of sadness in Keaton's comedy has often been noted, and it certainly emerges in that brisk final depiction of aging and death. Coming on the heels of the triumphant happy ending, the sudden sadness of the epilogue takes us by surprise; but I don't think it constitutes such a break with the rest of the film as some believe. "'What is this abrupt slap in the face doing at the end of an otherwise unquestioning love story?' wrote Walter Kerr in The Silent Clowns. "It takes no more than eleven seconds of playing time to deliver its chill, and yet it undoes on the spot all of the yearning, the struggle and the victory, of the narrative."1 Evidently perturbed by the chill, Kerr misrepresents the epilogue as portraying a disappointed, even embittered couple, when nothing of the sort is suggested: all that we get is a brief summary of a long, uneventful marriage. It seems to me wrong, or only half right, to view the epilogue as a brusque reversal of a hitherto romantic story. Although the hero is unquestioning in his devotion to the girl, the romanticism of the story has been tacitly called into question all along by the conveyed sense that the girl is as unreasonable in her peremptory demands as is the hero in his stubborn pursuit. If Keaton is a romantic, he's a singularly unsentimental one. Granted, we'd have expected the story to end with Buster's getting the girl, but the epilogue merely shows us that he gets to keep her: surely not the undoing but the exact fulfillment of his wishes. If the epilogue brings about a reversal of the happy ending, it does so by way of being a logical continuation of it, indeed a visual equivalent of those famous romantic last words: and they lived happily ever after.

"Seeing the couple's whole life together go by on the screen in so short a time has, of course, none of the reassuring effect of those words. Yet even the disconcerting briskness of those final eleven seconds carries forward unbrokenly the haste of the climactic rescue and ensuing wedding, as if confirming Buster's aim to get things settled once and for all. College is not the only one of Keaton's films to conclude with the grave. In Cops (1922), a short film in which he's surreally chased by every cop in the city, "The End" appears inscribed on a tombstone capped with Buster's porkpie hat. The plot of Cops, however—unlike that of any of his full-length movies—has an unhappy outcome. Rejected by the girl he loves even after he manages to elude all the cops who have been after him, Buster suicidally puts himself back in their midst: an unusual ending for a comedy, to be sure, but not so strange as the way that in College the romance turns sad, in spite of its triumph, by being literally carried out to its conventional conclusion in the couple's staying together for the remainder of their lives.

"Although not quite in the class of Keaton's very best— Our Hospitality (1923), Sherlock Junior (1924), The Navigator (1924), The General (1927), Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928)—College seems to me a splendid film that has been generally underrated. It surpasses, I believe, Harold Lloyd's better-known college comedy, The Freshman (1925), which preceded it and no doubt influenced it. The hero of The Freshman is also an incompetent athlete who redeems himself in the end by performing unexpected feats, in his case by winning the decisive football game of the season. (Apparently to avoid too close a comparison with the Lloyd picture, football is one sport omitted from College.) In giving such prominence to athletics, however, both comedians were merely reflecting a fact of campus life—in which sports are often more important than studies—and making use of material naturally befitting the physical comedy of the silent screen. Their comic conceptions, in any case, are fundamentally different. For Lloyd, athletics are part of the image of the big man on campus his ambitious but unknowing hero wants to become, whereas Buster only wants the girl, a more realistic goal as well as a more romantic one. Lloyd's hero is a thoroughgoing incompetent, a classic fool, whereas Keaton's is only a fool for love, a bookworm out of his element on the sports field and quite aware of his problem. When, after knocking over every other hurdle along the racing track, he succeeds in clearing the last one, Buster, instead of deriving any satisfaction from that success, gravely appraises it as a fluke, and then tips over that last hurdle too, feeling that it might as well conform to the pattern of the others. Such disdain for flukes is inconceivable in the Lloyd hero, who'd get nowhere without them. Unlike Lloyd, Keaton never plays the kind of comic character who is preposterously deluded about himself and what's going on around him.

"Buster usually has a good grasp of his situation, as good a grasp as one can expect from, as Kenner put it, 'a visitor, not native.' He is a visitor to the sports field in College who knows that the odds are against him there but nonetheless keeps trying because he also knows that the girl won't have him any other way, because he is a compliant visitor desiring to participate in a situation in which a girl's ideal boyfriend must be a jock.

"Why should Buster unprotestingly comply with the undue requirements laid upon him by others? One answer is provided in College by the figure of a dean, friendly to the promising young scholar and built small like him, who may be regarded as an embodiment of what his scholarly future would be like. Disappointed that Buster has been doing poorly in his studies, the older man, when he hears the explanation, tearfully reveals that he himself loved a girl once but lost her to an athlete. Buster would rather take on the alien territory of sports than end up alone like the dean. If all comedians are outsiders, Keaton is the outsider who will not give up the attempt to join in, to connect with others. Chaplin's Tramp, by contrast, is more or less self-sufficient, "an aristocrat," as Robert Warshow put it, "fallen on hard times." Lloyd's bespectacled democrat is a blundering free enterpriser, motivated by self-interest, patently inferior to his fellow men but aspiring to rise above them in the land of opportunity. Buster is unique in earnestly seeking a genuine togetherness. If he seems the loneliest of all comedians, it's because he's the one to whom companionship matters the most.

"That loneliness is hauntingly conveyed in those distant long shots, typical of Keaton, in which he appears as a tiny figure amid large empty surroundings: in the river town during the storm, or practicing by himself in the college stadium, or—in The Frozen North (1922)—coming out of a subway exit into an arctic wilderness.

"Robert Bresson—another practitioner of the deadpan approach, in a different way from Keaton's but with a similar sense that life is not a matter of personality—once defined originality as the failed attempt to do the same as everybody else, a definition that applies exactly to Buster. For all his efforts to join in, and all his eventual successes in meeting the forces outside, inside he cannot shake off the sense of his singularity. He thinks, therefore he stands alone in a world where no other minds are discernible, only systems of behavior. Ultimately he remains even more isolated than Chaplin's Tramp, since it's not Buster's individual qualities that single him out—these he hardly lets interfere in his transactions with others—but the very fact of his individuality, of his possessing the inner dimension of a self in the realm of the formula.

"Buster is not, then, Grierson's "romantic achiever of all things" but a bewildered equilibrist whose mind runs counter to the achievements of his body: a new kind of clown who may not so often trip over physical objects but who, so to speak, keeps tripping over his thoughts. The charming incompetence of the traditional clown was the conception of an earlier time, with more room for eccentricity than has been allowed in our ruthless century. Things were not so good then, of course—things never have been— but at least the clown could thumb his nose at the world and expect the world to let him be. He would puncture our lofty pretensions with his reminder of the claims of the body, of the fact that in our flesh and blood we all fumble our way through life. That conception hasn't lost its validity, and Chaplin can still use it to portray a doughboy in Shoulder Arms (1918) or a factory worker in Modern Times; but he was looking back to a Victorian humanism that decidedly fails him when portraying a Jew under the Nazis in The Great Dictator (1940). Keaton reverses that conception: to our age of increasing mindlessness he offers a comedy of mind. Although he never dealt with contemporary issues as Chaplin did, he accurately depicts the landscape of our time in its vast inhuman organization. He reminds us of the claims of consciousness against a mechanistic order, of the fact that our expert procedures and outward accomplishments take no account of our inner nature. Whereas the old clowns would assert our right to our idiosyncrasies, he asserts our need to live with one another in a community that does justice to our individuality. The sadness that emerges at the end of College underlies all of Keaton's happy endings: it is the sadness of inescapable isolation, of knowing that he does not in the end, any more than he did at the beginning, belong in a world where happiness is available only as a convention. Yet Buster has done his best, and leaves us with the haunting image of his solemn and solitary figure, at once purposeful and detached, bravely attempting the impossible."

2023.06.03 02:03 berat235 What’s the point in online dating?

I’m aware that this post will probably come across as mostly venting, but I just feel like I need to get it off my chest.
Online dating is a soul suck that I keep coming back to.
Every day I log into Tinder or Bumble, and I (having turned off my notifications to avoid the constant ads) hope that maybe I got a new match while I was away. Alas no such luck.
And then I go through the swiping process, which I myself take time with! It’s easy to tell if you’re attracted to someone right off the bat but I still look at their bio (if they even have one) to see if we might be in any way compatible.
All I see when I open up the app is basically the best looking girls in my city, and it’s like… why are you showing me these girls when I have a zero percent chance of going on a date with any of them? Maybe if you’re lucky you find a girl who seems “in your league” and doesn’t have any red flags in the bio. You give her a like and then that never goes anywhere.
Or maybe it does, and you got a match! And when you text them some greeting or question pertaining to something in their bio, they don’t message you back.
Or they do message you back! A couple times before ghosting you.
Or you actually go on a date! And then she stands you up, or trauma dumps on you, or tells you she’s mostly just looking for friends in the area.
I don’t know, I’m sorry I spent so much time on these apps, but then again it feels like it’s the only opportunity I have these days. But the opportunity is so narrow that it feels like trying to shoot a bullet mid air with another bullet.
The problem is, Dr. K has talked before about grieving your loss of ever finding a relationship.
My problem with that is that if I do that, I don’t know if I’ll ever go outside again. I’m being hyperbolic but it feels like that’s the only reason I go out to social events sometimes. If I decided I’m never going to find someone, I’d become a recluse.
Help, anybody?

2023.06.03 01:56 ItsnotAGPalone Is there anywhere lgbt friendly to go for my Gender issues in delhi

I don't have any money to pay for a private therapist, no one is going to give that much money in my family for no reason, i don't have the courage to tell them, even though i don't care if they know, its just i am not that brave. I hope there are some government hospital that provides it. Also i read a article on how they try to convert lgbt people forcefully in some places, so if there are some red flags, let me know.

Background

Its been bad, i have in such a bad condition internally for few weeks, my physical health has been started to decline too, maybe its the MCD water, but its been bad in other ways too. I unwillingly finished my male puberty around the age of 16, hated it, felt like some part of me dead inside, always wanted to be a girl since the age of 3-4, supressed my identity my whole childhood, grow up very masculine, hated feminity because that was convenient even though i wanted to be fem. Always hated myself and didn't knew why, felt gender euphoria crossdressing at age 14 when i first time dared to do it. For the past one year i was fine, though i had mild dysphoria it wasn't as crushing as it is now. Last time this was as bad as now was my final stage of puberty with the growth of beard ended. That phase of crippling depression lasted almost a year. Then i accepted my true identity and started believing in essentialism of gender, ie. there is something deep down in me, something essential, that makes me a girl, so I don't need to change my gender and for the last year, i tried to integrate my feminine identity with my assigned gender. And i changed, i finally found myself and my mental health was better then its been in last 8 years (i am almost 19), i still wanted to change my gender but i didn't felt much of a urgency because my dysphoria wasn't so bad as it was.
But then reality hit me when, my friends complementing-ly said they see me as thier elder bro figure, this struck me so bad, i just realised i was living in delusion, i thought i was being tomboyish and for the whole year, i saw myself as more feminine than i actually am, i was actually developing into a man and they obviously saw me as a positive masculine figure. And i am not flattered, just realised how delusional i was.
Now that i realised my masculine manliness, nothing feels good, nothing gives me euphoria, i would usually go into my fantasies to escape reality, but even that is not working. I tried to crossdress, felt even more dysphoric because i am reminded of my small hips and wide shoulders, i constantly hate the feeling of my face, how its shaped and how my beard feels.
I am even so masculine in my thinking and behaviour and i feel like I can't escape that. I am just too stoic, logical and blunt to be a girl. I can't escape myself. But on the other side i see feminine woman and cringe at thier feminity, while desperately wanted to look as feminine as them.
I don't dislike my male body, like i think i look good for a guy, its just not the way i prefer it to be. I don't have dysmorphia, its about the way it makes me feel about my gender, rather then how it looks.

2023.06.03 01:55 Bubbly_Function4683 My friends don’t like him

I don’t know what to do but for the first month everything was so perfect and now everything is not. There’s a lot of pros about him; he listen and changes when I tell him things, he’s there to support me when I’m stressed, he compliments me and finds me really attractive. He reasons with me and listens very intensively. We have the same world views and same perspective of things. Very loyal and kind person.
But the red flags, He doesn’t know what he wants. He told me he likes me but doesn’t know if he should be in a relationship (however we’ve only been seeing each other for 1.5 months went on two dates because we’re doing long distance) I come back in 1.5 weeks. He wants me to be skinner. He doesn’t bring it up cause the first time he said it, it really hurt and hasn’t said it again. But he’ll subtly says it. He knows im into the gym and am gonna start my cut when I get back but it bothers me when he says some stuff on the lines of that. He is going on a cottage tip (his cottage) and there’s gonna be girls that come up for a night or two (one of them has liked him). He doesn’t know if should go considering that I would have to stay for the whole week and be the only girls for most of it.
We’re exclusive btw

2023.06.03 01:52 Aussieshepdoge 35 [M4F] #Cincinnati, Ohio - Daddy looking for a good little girl, non bratty, eager to please.

Hello there! I am a 35 year old daddy dom. I am 6'1", mostly grey hair that I keep pretty short/shaved. Blue eyes and a bushy beard that is red and greying fast. I do have a “Dad bod” (slightly overweight and a bit of a gut.) but I am working on it. I enjoy listening to heavy metal, and progressive metal. Devin Townsend is one of my absolute favorite artists at the moment. I do a lot of PC gaming and I have a switch that I don’t use very often. I also enjoy tabletop board games quite a bit, though that is hard to plan for. I am a pretty big homebody, but I would like to start being more outdoorsy, camping and things like that. I am pretty laid back and do have some quirks. Socially I am lacking a bit, I don’t do well with hints and some social cues may escape me altogether. I also have a really bad tendency to take what people say at face value. Now, not to come off as boring, I am quite funny and I like to think that people enjoy my company quite a bit. I am totally an open book and happy to answer any and all questions.

What I'm primarily looking for is someone who wants to be taken care of in a sense. I want to cook for you, dress/undress you for the day/night while also picking out what you wear, bathe you, shave and groom you. I have a lot of kinks, though I don't consider a majority of them to be "mandatory." I am a dedicated and loyal person, I want to be a foundation you can build upon and explore your little side with zero judgement, someone you can feel safe with and excited to try new things with. I want the same amount of effort I put into a relationship to be reciprocated.

I want someone who would look up to me, let me help them express themselves to the fullest extent they want without judgment or criticism. I want my girl to be obedient but not to the point of allowing herself to be taken advantage of, I would never want her to put herself into an uncomfortable situation just to make me happy. I want someone who is clingyish about 80% of the time. I want her to be able to have fun with friends or go out and enjoy things from time to time and allow me to do the same. I want someone who is comfortable around me and just enjoys my company. I want my girl to be herself, and help me build a relationship with her that we can both enjoy and explore together.

I'm looking for a cisgender girl that is somewhere in the petite to average body type range. (healthy weight and proportionate.) I prefer girls that are shorter than myself, but not a deal breaker. I am only interested in monogamous relationships. I have no interested in having children at all.

2023.06.03 01:46 Extreme-Peach5324 My (F23) fiancé (M23) paid for $100 worth of dating app subscriptions to get objective validation that he’s attractive through swipes

I feel like I can’t tell the people around me about this on the chance we don’t split and are able to work through this (and would therefore taint their image of him).
We (F&M23) have been together for 7 years and engaged for 3 months. Two weeks ago, I glanced at his phone for a second and thought I saw Tinder. After much thought about whether it was worth bringing up or not, I later confronted him asking him to please show what the app was so I can have peace of mind. He got extremely defensive and said after all this time, I should trust him and believe that it wasn’t what I thought it was. My argument was that I have never asked this of him before and a simple show of his phone would put this all to rest.
This blew into a much larger fight around other problems we’ve had in the past, including him having Tinder at one point 3 years into our relationship, which I immediately forgave (which in hindsight was stupid). He said he had it for “10 minutes” to get validation from girls that he is objectively attractive through swiping. My best friend came across his account and sent it to me - i.e. I found out about it, he never confessed.
Two days after thinking I saw Tinder, I couldn’t shake the feeling that his abrupt defensiveness was fishy. So I did what I thought I’d never have to do - go on his phone without his permission. Once he fell asleep, I unlocked his phone and saw that where I had thought I’d seen Tinder, was now replaced with Twitch - so a red/pink icon with a white flame was now replaced with a purple icon with black letters. My heart sunk and I knew I needed to find more proof that I was right.
I searched for his app download history and behold, the truth. Tinder Plus and Gold subscriptions were paid for earlier that week. Various other random dating apps had also been downloaded, and Bumble premium paid for 3 weeks after our engagement. I screenshotted everything, sent them to my phone and drove to a friends house to spend the night.
Since then, I’ve confronted him with the evidence and his reasoning is that I “don’t give him enough words of validation or compliments”, so he did the same thing he did in 2019 and sought out swipe validation from strangers. He apparently never chatted with or met up with anyone, but I guess I’ll never really know. The bigger problem I see, is that he lied and gaslit me in our argument the few days before. He never had any intention of me finding out and was clearly not mature enough to bring up my lack of words of affirmation in open communication. He did seem very remorseful, but I worry he only feels guilt and shame because he got found out.
We are currently spending 6 weeks apart, sleeping at different places and going completely no contact. This is a vast change from living together the past 3 years and talking every single day since we met in high school. I’m hoping he uses this time to realise his flaws and work on himself, and I’m hoping I can learn how to be okay spending time by myself.
I thought I would feel more clear cut about whether I should break up with him or not, but I’m finding it extremely difficult to know what to do now. He is my first everything, we really are an amazing fit and get each other’s humour perfectly. I honestly can’t imagine myself being single and trying to date. We also have two cats that we brought up together since they were babies, but they are essentially his, so parting with them would be awful. I’ve given him a list of things he needs to change and work on to make this relationship work, but I don’t know how easy people can just change.
Additionally, if this is what he resorted to in what is supposed to be one of the happiest parts of a relationship - engagement, what will happen in 8-10 years when marriage isn’t as exciting? I’m hoping to somehow decide whether this relationship will work in the long run or not by the end of the 6 weeks. But for now, I’m torn and hate that he’s put me in this position. Can someone really change after a wake up call like this?

2023.06.03 01:42 XerzesLegend Girl talks about personal issues

I’ve met this girl on a dating app and we talked a bit and then things moved over text and she starts talking about deep personal issues like stuff that you don’t normally share with anyone and especially to the opposite gender.
I’m meeting up with her this weekend but I’m not sure if it’s the best idea. Is it a red flag to talk about personal issues so openly?

2023.06.03 01:26 ChainNo715 MAVEN CALORE IS not THE VILLAIN

SPOILER WARNING ⛔️ do not read unless you have finished all 4 books or want to be spoiled.
I just finished reading the entire red queen series in an entire week (I’m missing broken throne). First off, chefs kiss😘 to Victoria Aveyard for writing this absolutely suspenseful and page turning book, I was on the edge the entire time. However, I couldn’t help but root for Maven the entire book. As the series progressed and Cal took the throne, it really became clear he was never truly meant for it.
Maven was never the villain and I stand by this. He was manipulated by his mother and had his brain surgically chopped by her , it even caused madness. He did everything from chain her in front of Silver Court— to parading her on tv to protect her. (in the eyes of the silvers, mare had helped cal murder Tiberius and she murdered elara) The silver court would have removed him from the throne or killed them both if he just let her live in the palace without consequences. When she said she was scared of Evangeline and knew she hated the ongoing war that kept conscriptions rolling in, he turned on his court , dismissed Evangeline, knowing that would cause her father to turn on him (he already had enough problems with his court trying to murder him at dinner a few chapters before this) and married the lakelander princess who showed mare kindness. After Maven forced Mare to tell new bloods he would train and give them a better life if they just came to the palace, he actually went and did that. Maven Calore was a man of his word. He didn’t think the Silent Stone would be so traumatizing for her because he willing chose to add it to his throne and loved the silent stone himself because it helped quite his psychopathic mother. He was twisted , but he loved her the only way he knew how. Maven could have just murdered her or worse, but instead he kept her around to play dress up and tea parties. Cal wasn’t much better tbh, he knew all mare had been through and still betrayed her.
She should’ve chose maven, he would’ve ended conscription, elevated new bloods, and eventually I think he would’ve made life better for the Reds, as a way to continue to earn her love. Tbh throw away war storm.
Forgot to mention: in glass sword he had the chance to kill cal , 5000 kids, and still take mare but instead he let cal go knowing that he could be a threat and the leader of a coupe against his thrown. But he sparred them for mare . Even after she murdered his mother and broadcasted her body on tv
Please, let me know if you agree or if you think he really is the villain, I’m interested in your thoughts and feedback. Also , is there anything you would have changed about the story?

2023.06.03 01:24 AmbientGeek Feline Herpes Flare.

My little girl Boo woke up this morning with a watery red eye that’s a bit swollen. Little sneezy. She has feline herpes. It’s been awhile since a true flare. She’s 8 years old, about 9-10 pounds, spayed, and is a DSH. She was diagnosed with feline herpes as a kitten.
Any recommendations beside lysine? I also purchased a feliway diffuser as her flare seems to be stressing her other kitty friend.
It gives me anxiety seeing her like this, but I know this is exactly how any flares have been. I gave her a dose of lysine with some wet food earlier.
