2023.05.28 04:39 chococrepedreams may I snatch up a few snack ideas?

(edited for breaking rule 10. sorry 😔)
I’m going to try this whole recovery thing. It’s going to be tough but I’m going to try—and I’ll try with some snacks. 3 times a day, planned.
But I need some ideas! Could you help a fellow out and drop some snack ideas and/or recipes?
I do have a few requests:
~ I’m still doing some loose calorie tracking for now so if you could include at least a general estimate of calories I’d really appreciate it
~ something that can be prepped in bulk so I can just grab it and go without thinking/wallowing about it too much would be nice.
I’m really scared but also kinda excited. Any little bit helps. Thank you all so much!! (^∇^)

2023.05.28 04:36 TheCrimsonArrow Free the Plungers Movement

I would like to propose a "Free the Plungers Movement"!
I will start by saying that I absolutely love the new Reddit x Rabbids collection, and I am extremely excited to see where reddit takes collectibles and especially collabs in the future.
But can we please take a moment to talk about 3 of the avatars in the collection:
Unicorn Rabbid, Raving Rabid, Ninja Rabbid
Each of these avatars have a number of unique attributes that if separated would have been perfect for mashups i.e. The Golden Plunger, or the Kool-Aid man hole.
While it might be a bit late to address these misfortunes for the current selection, Reddit, can we please ask you to consider these things in future releases? There was still plenty of available traits not used on these avatars that could of been used to split these items out.

2023.05.28 04:27 This-Economics-0214 Chances of getting into T-14?

Just to preface, my degree requires 20.0 credits for completion but I fucked up my first 2 years of undergrad which I like to think is due to extenuating circumstances. I’m switching programs from business to arts & going into my 3rd year doing summer school right now, on track to receive 5.5 credits by fall. I’ve already accepted that I’ll be taking a 5th year to graduate and get my cumulative gpa up as it sits at a 2.49 right now but my sessional gpa is a 3.7 and only going up. It’s also important to note that I’m a canadian citizen looking to attend law school, work and live permanently in the states. I would require a lot of financial aid as I’m currently on financial aid to complete my undergrad in Canada as well. The more I type this the more I lose hope but ultimately I was really hoping to get an outsiders opinion. What do law schools think of a 5 year undergrad? I intend on getting my cumulative gpa to a 3.8 at least. What are the chances of getting financial aid as an international student? How can I stand out?

2023.05.28 04:26 deathlyconscious I hate that people feel bad for me

Hello all, this is my first post here. Feeling like shit due to unrelated circumstances, so I would really just like to vent, even if nobody sees this. My mom died when I was 7, and my family never told me how out of fear of upsetting me(?). Obviously this was a traumatic experience, but as a 7 year old I did not process what happened. All I understood was that mom "had an accident with two medications" and now everyone is treating me differently. My teachers faces would change when my dad would try to discreetly let them know what had happened ( I guess so they could avoid mothers day crafts, etc) my family treated me differently of course, my same aged cousins would give me their toys bc "she doesn't have a mom". (Of course I know they were doing that with all good intentions, but ouch). I remember specifically a writing project we had in 2nd grade where the prompt was "write about the worst day of your life". As a kid I was just trying to be honest about the assignment and didn't know my teacher would have such a shocked and sad reaction. I just wanted to be treated like everyone else. In high school I had more issues with family. I was a depressed teen, but I kept my grades up and didn't act out at all, just spend time in my room like most teens. They always openly worried about me, telling me neighbors were concerned about how I started dressing. I did and still do have an alternative style, but that's just what I like. And now as an adult, I found out what actually happened to my mom. I found out from my fucking boyfriend (now ex). He asked my grandmother when I was out of the room, and she told him a much more detailed story about how she was with some friends, and in a manic episode she was given some medication from one of them that aids people who are getting off opioids. She just wanted some relief. Well it ended up killing her because it mixed with her prozac (she had diagnosed bipolar so idk why she was even given prozac to begin with). On top of that, the friend who gave her the medication apparently killed himself after he found out. I ended up getting a copy of her autopsy results, 10 years after the fact, because my family didn't want to tell me. So after living my life with this air of concern I get from my family every time I see them, I get incredibly triggered when I think someone feels bad for me. It makes me so uncomfortable. I am a responsible adult. A few months ago an aunt texted me after seeing me at at the family Easter gathering, saying "I just wanted to reach out to make sure you're ok". And this made me so uncomfortable and upset. Admittedly I did wear a more goth outfit, but I was acting happy and socializing with everyone. I dont know what to do anymore. I feel like I cant ask my family about my mom, who she was, what she liked. I only have a few memories and whatever clues I can gather from some of her stuff I have. As I've gotten older I think her absence has been a lot harder since I'm old enough now to process what happened. I want my family to respect me and not worry about how I'm doing, and also be able to tell me about her. At this point I am ready to give up family events. I have a few close friends who do not treat me this way if anything comes up about my mom. I don't understand why they just will not see me as an adult.

2023.05.28 04:26 Surfaceofthesun Recently took on a second job - Massive combined salary - Tips?

Hey guys,
I recently took on a new job and now have an income of 195k a year.
I was wondering what steps I should take RIGHT away. I'm quite new to finance literature and planning but am trying to build up a bulk of savings (I have around 22k sitting in my savings right now with 4.5% interest a month being added)
I haven't got any of the 401k stuff yet as I don't know if I'll be in the USA long term. I have citizenship from a different country and might move there eventually. Is there anything I should be doing with that consideration or am I okay with saving a specific percentage a month with a goal of reaching 50/60k in savings within the next 6 months or so.
Sorry this is probably really stupid I just never ever had any training or advice with this type of thing and I always see jargon that I don't quite understand (and my situation is quite unique) I'm MARRIED filing separately at the moment as I recently got out of a relationship too (Not sure if that's helpful info)
I was also putting around 500 a month into individual stocks but not sure that it's that important to my growth right now.
Also I live in California!

Ryazhanka

Ryazhanka made using a mason jar method. Photo: New York Times.
Today we will cover a drink that is not so internationally popular (yet!) but has potential for crossover stardom. It’s called Ryazhanka, and for many Ukrainians, it's a staple found in the refrigerator year-round. If you visit a Ukrainian store, you will likely find no shortage of brands that aim to dazzle you with their hearty yet refreshing drink.
Ryazhanka is a baked cultured milk drink that is traditional in Ukraine and Belarus. Its taste is sweet and super creamy and not quite sour - the tanginess from the fermentation gives it just a little kick.
It's also a very old drink. It is well recorded that during the era of Kyivan Rus, people made Ryazhanka in the Pich (the traditional Ukrainian oven). They would heat up milk and cream at high temperatures (but without bringing to a full boil!) until they acquired a nice caramelized color.
While on some level I do believe that our old pal Domovyk must of course be involved in the process of crafting Ryazhanka, I have also read in some sciencey places that during the baking process, milk proteins interact with the sugars in milk resulting in the formation of a new substance - melanoidins. Maybe Domovyk’s powers include control over high molecular weight heterogeneous polymers. :) Anyway, just like some other cooked dairy products (like ultra-pasteurized milk or ghee), melanoidins seem happy to provide the unique color of Ryazhanka. And of course, they impart a quite pleasant taste! To seal the deal, a little sour cream was traditionally added to the Ryazhanka after baking and with time the milk would ferment, adding another interesting element to the drink.
This stabilized drink of course allowed humans to preserve milk for a little longer before it went bad when civilization had not come up with refrigerators just yet; if you’ve been following this series, you’ll understand that Ukrainian cuisine is all about fermentation and preservation! And it's also worth mentioning that in a pinch, the rich and nutritious Ryazhanka could be a substitute for a meal, especially on a hot day, adding to its appeal.
Note: I am positive that you can find Ukrainian Ryazhanka in stores that carry brands from Eastern Europe, although I want to mention that regretfully the orcs developed their own knockoff brands so be careful and look for the country of origin on the label! And as we do not want you to support the war machine or get poisoned (are you sure Novichok is only in tea?), we’ll tell you how to make it at home!

How to Make Ryazhanka (With or Without Domovyk’s Help)

To prepare Ryazhanka, you will need only two ingredients!
Ingredients
  • Milk (full fat, as fresh as possible) - 3 Liters
  • Plain whole milk Kefir - 4 Tbsp
    • Note: It is traditional to use sour cream, but I worry that for the purposes of this recipe all international sour cream might not have the right cultures in it to be able to kick off the process, whereas Kefir probably does. Substitute same volume for sour cream or you could try full fat active culture Greek Yogurt.
Recipe
  1. When fermenting, it’s really important that you make sure the equipment you use (pots including lids, spoons, etc.) are super clean.
  2. Pour the milk into a pan, and bring it to a near boil. Don’t let it actually boil because it could scald and ruin the taste - just get it to look like it’s threatening to boil. Leave it at this temperature for about 5 minutes. At the same time, it is important to really monitor the milk so it does not spill over the edge. Periodically stirring it helps.
  3. Heat oven to 150°C.
  4. Pour the milk into a vessel that can be used in the oven. Best is a nice ceramic pot.
  5. Place the pot with the milk in the oven and gently simmer for between 3 and 4 hours. Do not cover it with a lid.
  6. At this point a coffee-colored foam will appear on the surface if it has caramelized properly - it is now baked milk! Take it out of the oven and wait until it cools down to around 40°C. Very important to wait until cool because otherwise the heat will kill the helpful little fermentation guys in the next steps.
  7. You can remove the foam or leave it. [Ed. note: I leave it so I am not sure the difference exactly - if anyone knows, please tell us in the comments!]
  8. Pour a small amount of milk into the Kefir (or your substitute) and stir until smooth. Then pour this small amount of mixture back into the larger pot of baked milk.
  9. Cover the pot with a lid and then wrap it in a blanket, or towel, to retain heat. Leave in a warm place for at least 8 hours - it should become thick. You can keep it in this warm state for up to 24 hours, depending on the temperature of your warm place and desired thickness. I feel just a little bit dirty typing that.
  10. You can drink it right away after it has reached its desired thickness, but in summertime I recommend chilling it first! It can be poured into jars, and keeps for about a week in the refrigerator.
Tips
  • 1 liter of milk yields approximately 700 ml of Ryazhanka.
  • There is an alternative mason jar version of the recipe where you pour it into the jars after Step 8. In this case, you must absolutely boil the jars to sterilize them. Then use a coffee filter and an elastic band to cover them while you wait for fermentation.
  • You can use Ryazhanka for the same applications you would use yogurt for, but Ryazhanka is naturally much sweeter.
  • Try adding Ryazhanka to smoothies to fortify them in a creamy way - or substitute for milk when making pancakes to lend a more velvety texture. Sometimes Ryazhanka is used when making fancy baked desserts!

2023.05.28 04:24 r_I_reddit The Place needs help for the food insecure

Dear OP,
Can you believe summer break is already here?
For the next couple of months, most kids will spend their summer break swimming at the pool, attending camp, riding bikes, sleeping in... you know, just being kids! Most kids look forward to a fun-filled season of kicking back and having fun. Unfortunately, this summer might not be as much fun for most other kids in our community.
Once school is out for summer break, 16% of low-income children in Forsyth and 46% of Dawson lose access to breakfast, lunch, and afterschool meals available at school during the year.
With your help, we can help these children and their families have food this summer. This summer, we are providing additional free meals and snacks to any of the 9,100 children in our community who might otherwise go hungry.
Can you or your group of friends/coworkers commit to supporting our summer feeding initiative in any of these ways?
Donate Money to the food pantry so we can purchase food in bulk
Purchase food from our Amazon shopping list
Sign-Up to host a food drive
With your help, we can make a difference this summer.

2023.05.28 04:22 Crealoid Summer Cal Grant

Hello, this summer I will be taking classes at community college. I saw that I could get financial aid for the summer and was wondering if it would mess my coverage limit up. Meaning if I take this summer since it is technically 22-23 does it count as one of the 4 years fafsa/cal grant covers? So would I still be able to get fafsa/cal grant money in my 4 college year if I take summer classes and get the cal grant for it?

2023.05.28 04:22 SoraDonaldGoofy99 Challenge Dex 55: Seadra

Seadra itself, wasn't too bad. Even the start with Horsea was pretty good. I hope you all like this one as well!
Up to Brock: 'Moveset': Bubble While Horsea couldn't beat Gary's Bulbasaur, I didn't really expect it to, as I only had Bubble. Maybe it could be possible with Water Gun, but that sound nuts. I kept up my usual strat of 'kill everything before Brock' as normal, just to accumulate EXP for some parts later on, as trying with just Bubble on a weak Pokemobn just sounds impossible! I got through Viridian Forest and all the Bug Catchers on Bubble, only needing a few Struggles for the Weedle guy at the end. Then I won against Buzz Lightyear with only Bubble, and then Brock with only Bubble.
Up to Misty: Moveset: Bubble, Bide, Water Gun, Smokescreen I pretty much only went for the required trainers and the one Hiker you can run into along the way. Once I got out of Mt. Moon with a Jigglypuff and a Spearow, I thought about whether or not to fight with Misty or Gary 2. I tried Misty first, hoping Bide would work out, but it really only worked out a little bit, as Horsea didn't have the bulk to tank Starmie's Tackles for long, so I decided to try Gary 2. No luck there either. I trained up for a bit and eventually learned Smokescreen. Like Sand-Attack with Pidgeot, this was a lifesaver. I Smokescreened my way through Gary 2, using it several times on the way through Nugget Bridge, but the Lass with two Oddishes became a roadblock. I then tried to beat Misty with better levels and Smokescreen instead of Bide. Turned out that THAT was the way to do it. Spam Smokescreen until even the game decides that even it can't bullshit RNG through shit accuracy, and I Water Gunned through it. She then gave me Bubbebeam.
Up to Surge: Moveset: Bubblebeam, Bide, Water Gun, Smokescreen The Oddish Lass was finally defeated with Bubblebeam, and I picked up the S.S. Ticket. I went to the boat, and went around getting EXP to try and better keep up with Surge. After I got a bunch of good levels, I went to Gary 3. This fight was also not very bad. Pidgeotto died to Bubblebeam, as did Raticate, and even Kadabra succumbed to it early. I Smokescreened Ivysaur several times, and through it, I Bubblebeamed, then Water Gunned Ivysaur. I got Cut, and traded Spearow for Dux. Dux Cut the tree, and I went to Surge. I made it to Level 30 before Surge, and Bubblebeamed through Voltorb and Pikachu with no problems. Then I actually managed to beat Raichu the same way, only taking a Thunderbolt once. Didn't do too badly.
Up to Erika: Bubblebeam, Ice Beam, Double-Edge, Smokescreen Caught a Diglett for Dig. I went towards Rock Tunnel ASAP after Surge. The Wrapping Lass was someone else I couldn't really beat without Smokescreen. I don't mind counterhaxing the AI, as it does the same thing to me anyway. No issues here. I evolved into Seadra just before Dudley/Boomer, but I think even as a Horsea, he was still done. Before I went to fight Gary 4, I got Swift, as Bide was pretty useless by now. Swift cut through the Gyarados for me. Growlithe went down to Bubblebeam, and Swift even helped against his Ivysaur now that I am stat buffed via evolution! I then got Double-Edge from the Rocket Hideout and got Ice Beam after getting Calciums from the Celadon Mart. Ice Beam was enough to get through Erika.
Up to Koga: Moveset: Surf, Ice Beam, Double-Edge, Agility I got Fly for Dux by now, and cleared out Pokemon Tower, beating both Ghost Marowak and sending Snorlax back to where it came from. I cycled through Cycling Road, refinding the PP Up and the Rare Candy on the way, and got Surf to fight Koga. I ended up learning Agility on the way, so my initial strat to Smokescreen through Weezing was out the window, but I was still fine. Surf was just enough to get through Koga. Seadra was outperforming my expectations a bit by now, as sometimes I thought I'd have trouble, I didn't... and sometimes I thought it wouldn't... it did... but that fell on Horsea more than Seadra.
Up to Sabrina: Moveset: Same Rival Fival/Gary 5 didn't cause me any problems, and I was Ice Beaming through his Venusaur. Double-Edge was still enough to take down Alakazam. When it came to Giovanni 2, I basically just used Surf. When it came to Sabrina... Double-Edge was enough to stop Kadabra. I Surfed both Mr. Mine and Venomoth and then Double-Edged Alakazam just in time. I had next to no health remaining, but my man Seadra held on like a champ.
Up to Blaine: Moveset: Surf, Blizzard, Double-Edge, Agility Just picked up Blizzard because I always do, and Surfed Blaine out of his gym. If there's one thing Water types can do, it's total Blaine like a t-bone accident.
Up to Giovanni 3: Moveset: Same Just tossed Surfs out. SURF'S UP MY MAN!
Gary 6: Moveset: It's a mystery how Seadra needed an evolution. It seems just fine. Kingdra's still sweet, though. I made it through here with my Agility Badge Boosts. Once I powered up, Pidgeot fell to Blizzard, Growlithe and Rhyhorn fell to Surf, Blizzard also wiped Gyarados, Double-Edge cleared out Alakazam, and Blizzard hit and wiped Venusaur. I don't know why I feel Exeggutor is the overall bigger threat, as Venusaur has better overall moves, yet it dies far easier. I wish I knew my logic here.
Elite Four: Moveset: Must have been the fact that they needed more Dragon types besides Dragonite? I had many haxy resets here. I feel Seadra is consistent up until this point, maybe because Seadra either needs Agility for Badge Boosts, or Smokescreen to make things miss. Maybe both?
Lorelei: I used Agility to set up on Dewgong. If it used Growl once or twice, even better. Double-Edge and Surf both work, but Cloyster need Surf. His Defense is that good. Slowbro... really depends. I usually have to use Surf, as Double-Edge is a liability later on in battles. Jynx usually dies to Surf. Lapras... just hope it doesn't hax you with Body Slam and Confuse Ray? Surf does alright.
Bruno: SURF'S UP, BRO!
Agatha: I just chose to spam Surf. It did work, and I would try to use Agility on Arbok. Really hope it doesn't use Glare as you attempt to set up. Oh, and Blizzard Golbat. May be worth it to use Blizzard on the Gengars if it freezes?
Lance: Blizzard takes out everything. Even Aerodactyl. I'd rather use Surf here.
Champion Gary: Set up on Pidgeot. Blizzard took it out. Double-Edge still works on Alakazam, Rhydon dies to Surf, Gyarados then dies to two Blizzards. Arcanine dies to Surf, and I manage to FREEZE Venusaur before killing him off.
I won at Level 67 and at 4:26.

Casually joined makeupaddiction a week ago. Totally lost.
Annoyed by tension in my forehead, my roommate teased my band-aid addiction suggesting that I place one on my forehead.
Forehead feelin grates, latest. I even surmised a way to allow the band-aid to peel naturally.
Summary: will definitely be on the hunt fr band-aid hacks.
Stress lines still present; painlessly pleasant. :)

2023.05.28 04:19 FourMobile I got treated like shit by my boss at McDonalds due to my disability

TLDR: I (a hearing impaired employee) quit my job at McDonalds due to poor treatment around my disability & then became depressed due to financial & emotional stress
———————————————————————
I was born hearing impaired (only have about 40% of my hearing left) so I wear hearing aids in both ears.
I worked at McDonalds for 23 months before I quit.
I was a crew trainer & one of the senior staff as McDonalds has an absurd staff turnover rate. I worked almost exclusively in the kitchen as the kitchen managecrew trainer, only working the other stations briefly (front countedrive thru presenter, NEVER drive thru order taker) in order to pass my crew trainer qualification.
One day on a morning shift with multiple sick calls, we were more understaffed than usual, and so to cover a break I was put in drive thru order taking for the first time in my entire 23 months working there despite the fact that there was another employee who had years of experience in that position that could’ve covered the break.
Now the reason I never worked the drive thru order taker position was because i struggle to hear properly, especially over the headsets we use (even at max volume). in my interview i stated I could never do that specific position as I am hearing impaired and my hiring manager agreed with me.
When i was told I would be covering the drive thru order taker position I told my shift manager I couldn’t do it because of my disability, but she refused to accept my excuse and told me I had to do it anyway.
As she was my shift manager I had to do what she said so i complied until said shift manager clocked out for her lunch break. Then I switched out with the coworker i mentioned earlier who had experience with the position & wasn’t hearing impaired, but my manager while on break, called me out about switching and told me off, refusing to let my coworker do the job for me. After i was let out of the drive thru order taker position I was sent on break where I immediately wrote my letter of resignation and emailed it to my restaurant manager giving them two weeks notice as per my contract.
After quitting my job I became depressed and suffered from anxiety due to financial stress & loneliness, and have only recently started to seek help through therapy & counselling. I even dropped out of university.
I feel like my case is clear but I have to note that broke some minor rules while working my last two weeks, I would occasionally eat a nugget or two on shift because i thought “fuck it, they treated me like shit” and Im worried that if i do try get something out of this McDonald’s army of lawyers will shut it down saying i broke my contract by ‘stealing’ a nugget here & there. No one ever caught me & I tried to always eat it in the camera blind spot, but im worried they may get someone to go back and review shifts i was working to find any excuse to ruin my case. I also have to note I wore the headsets used in the drive thru order taker position when I worked in the kitchen (as instructed by my shift managers) as it helped the efficiency & communication of the restaurant, however I ALWAYS struggled to hear properly through them. Im worried they may also use this against me saying if I could wear the headset in the kitchen (not talking to customers) then I should be able to wear it in the drive thru (talking to customers).
Anytime i tell people why I quit my job they tell me I should sue them, however I know nothing about New Zealands legal system.

Last-minute choice between NYU ($$.5) and SLS (minimal aid). I think the difference in loan principal would be ~$100k more to go to SLS. Pursuing gov/PI; already live in NYC as do most of my friends. What would you do?

What online CC can I take these classes at, that go from after this quarter until mid august (if possible)
For context, I’m a first year psychology major (w/ specialization in human health) at Muir. After this spring quarter I’ll have 84 units. I’m trying really hard to take upper divs next quarter. I’m enrolled in 12 units for summer session here just in case I can get good financial aid. If I don’t, then I’ll just drop them with no problem.
However, just in case financial aid doesn’t work out, does anyone know of online community colleges that offer equivalent classes for these Muir GEs? Ik there’s a lot out there, I’m just stuck on which ones to start at. I’m also on a time constraint since I’m gonna be an RA, and will start training on august 19th. Open to hearing suggestions too! Thank you guys 🥲

2023.05.28 04:08 Same-Share-5351 I don’t know what to do anymore

I want to give up, so badly. I spend every day miserable and I don’t have any interest in doing anything. I want to have interest, I try to put in the effort but I just can’t get my self to give a fuck.
Sometimes I regret letting people into my life because now I can’t take my life without royally screwing up theirs. My partner would be devastated if i was gone, even if I broke it off and waited a while. My mom already deals with depression and I don’t think she would be able to handle it. I can’t do that to my siblings, they don’t need to learn what suicide means before they even turn 10.
I’m so tired, I force myself to eat so I won’t waste away to nothing, I have to take sleep aids to ever fall asleep and I spend every single day at work holding back everything even though I keep having what feels like back to back panic attacks. Beta blockers don’t even help.
I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m only in my early 20s how am I supposed to do this for the rest of my life?

2023.05.28 04:01 WoefullyIneptPigeon A Guide on Nyx

First off. I'm sorry about the wall of text, but loopholes and leaving info out bothers me for whatever reason. My friends like to call me an info dump when I'm explaining something. It's more than deserved and it doesn't mean I'm always right about something lol. Some of the info here is basic stuff, some isn't. I also play her primarily as a point tank because she benefits from being near where the fight is centered around. If you don't want to read all of it, there's one thing I'm trying to spread about her that's super cool in the Royal Presence section that I bolded. Funny enough KamiVS just did it in a new video he posted yesterday so there's footage of it. I won't be offended if you don't read all of this, I was just answering another post and it ended up being way too long so I'm putting this here.
On to the guide and feel free to correct me on things or put your own ideas of the character in the comments!

General
Nyx is a much better point tank than a lot of people think. Being patient also really helps with her; not just in learning her, but also in stealing the point. She's not broken or the best, but she's good and can be pretty versatile when you get her down. It just takes bit of time to get a playstyle that works with her down.
The first thing to know is that she does a LOT of damage, but it's slow. You have to play point patiently with her and take your opportunities when you see them. She's great at denying space and dealing wide areas of damage. Even if that damage seems small, it adds up. Which you'll see me say over and over again. Instead of holding point more defensively than offensively like say an Inara would, Nyx does the opposite. She uses slow sneaky damage to steal the point and try and angle herself where she can poke a little close, but safe. You always want to be where your support can see you and protect them even more than another tank would. They're your lifeline and only source of healing.
When you use either her shield or presence and don't have a need for it to be active anymore, then re-activate them to end the effect so that you can get your cooldown back faster.
Last thing is that if your support isn't very good you're going to have a ton of trouble staying up so you have to play a lot safer and use your poison, rift slash, and poke to try and steal what space you can. If your dps isn't very good, then a lot of the slow damage you're doing is going to get wasted. It's your job to weaken the enemy and their job to finish them off. Not that you can't still get picks and burst people down, but bad dps is really going to make things much harder on you than another tank would especially if their target priority isn't good. Making enemies back up or just die is how you're going to survive along with knowing when to back yourself. But if your dps and/or your support is at least decent you can create so many opportunities for your team, which makes the character a lot of fun.
Weapon
Her weapon shots gets +75 damage within 20 units, which is not far at all. It's essentially nose to nose, but when you think it's within survivable space, try and get into that range for the extra dps. She goes from ~483 dps to ~608 dps if she hits all bonus damage shots in one combo (about 3 seconds when I timed it. Someone could correct me if I'm wrong there though.) It will really benefit you to move strafe forward and then back a little when you fire to try and get that bonus damage, but also maintain a little space. Mess around with it in the shooting range to get used to that if you don't already do it.

Abyssal Fortress
I have four tips for for the shield:
1.) When using it to protect yourself try to keep it close to you and of course strafe through it if enemies try and walk through to hit you. You can look a bit in front of you or straight down at the ground, but just remember 30 units isn't far and 1500 less shield is best to avoid when you can help it.
2.) Place the shield facing towards where the danger is. If most of the damage is in front of you, then place it there. If you're dueling the enemy tank because they're killable and there's two dps to your right, then place it towards them to block their damage.
3.) If you seen a teammate (especially your support) in need of protection don't be afraid to place the shield farther away near them to keep them from dying or to aid their retreat. If you're fighting point and think the save is more valuable, then retreat off point and protect the teammate by throwing a rift slash at whoever is chasing them or poking with your weapon if you can. But get away from the point if it'll kill you.
4.) If the enemy tank (like Barik, Ash, Atlas, or another Nyx) places their shield down before you do, don't be afraid to walk forward and put your shield past theirs to negate their value if you think it's survivable space.

Rift Slash
Rift slash isn't just good for damage or trying to get picks. It's also a great zoning/area denial tool. Don't be afraid to use it to keep people from being in a certain spot if you think you'll find more value than just damage. Also great for pushing the support from line of sight from their tank.
Also don't just use it for yourself. It can really help your flank get that pick if you notice it.
Using it is easier when you charge it for distance instead of damage. The distances are 25 units for 0-49% charge, 50 units for 50-99% charge, and 100 units for full charge. The damage increase is on the initial hit only and you can add more with your weapon than charging will and some players (not a lot, though) will hear the charge and know they need to dodge it, so faster is also better. Additionally, the hitbox when it's a projectile is smaller than the hitbox when it's stationary, so Show of Force cripple is easier to hit as well if you place it correctly. You'll still want to aim directly for enemies, but knowing this can make it a lot easier to hit. You also sometimes want to walk forward or back to get the the area where the slash will stop.
Pre-firing Rift Slash can be a good idea, especially if you know the enemy is going to be near a certain distance. But if the charge will go farther than the enemy you want to hit you have three options:
1.) Hit the enemy with the claw projectile
2.) Hit an object ~15 units near them (includes deployables)
3.) If you're on high ground, aim at the ground near them.
Last thing I'll add on this is that if you need to retreat, hit enemies with the slow or put it in a spot that'll get in their way so you can get out of trouble more safely.
FOR ENEMIES WITH SHIELDS: Fire your rift slash above them at roughly the units you would need to diagonally to get that initial hit damage (and cripple on Show of Force.) Sometimes you'll still hit the shield, but hey we tried. They'll still take the pulse damage like they would have if you just hit the shield.

Royal Presence
For Royal Presence (her F,) don't think of it as just a defensive ability that makes the damage you take slower. It's great for that, but it's also a great offensive ability for punishing enemies for grouping up near you and racking up that ult charge! You'll be surprised how fast you'll get it with Abyssal Authority and Center of Combat. Sure the damage on the poison is slow, but you don't have to aim it and it can only really be cleansed by ethereal like Grohk & Seris' movement abilities, Zhin billow, and Koga dash.
The poison can also be re-procced, so if you touch an enemy with the aura again near before it ends, they take double damage. Meaning with Center of Combat 5 they can take a total of 30% health over 12 seconds. That's 3 times the damage at base and 6 times if you just got it one them once! People will really just stand in it and not respect the slow damage, but even if it can seem minimal it really does add up; damage is damage after all!
The pull is also really useful for getting a support out of position and then throwing Rift Slash on them, stopping the momentum of an enemy trying to run away, or trying to get an enemy off of one of your teammates. The hitbox for it is a small cone in front of you.
If you didn't know, you can cleanse all temp damage from presence with her ult. But a really cool thing about Royal Presence is that there's a small window where any damage you would take as purple health is automatically healed back up; without even having to use your ult for it. This window is less than a second and basically where her wings go in front of her right when you first activate presence. You don't need to activate the chain pull at all, so you still also get all the other perks of the ability and can save your ult! This means that you can run into Drogoz ult and right before he hits you, pop presence and you'll take no damage. Good Drogoz players will adapt and choose a different target or dodge you, but it's an awesome counter to a death sentence. This also works for tanking Jenos ult, Skye ult, etc. Any big burst damage, but also really any damage in that small window. You can practice this against the Cassie bots in the shooting range. Just wait before one of them fires at you and pop the first activation of Presence. Of course this doesn't work against Vora ult. No idea about Maeve's Street Justice talent however, but to me that's nearly impossible to time.
Last two things to touch on for Presence, but important is you can use it to retreat to get back to your support. You can also touch the enemy tank and hopefully the support with the poison, throw a rift slash if you need to, back up and heal/poke, and then re-proc the poison to add more damage and point pressure. The ability is really a nice mix of offense and defense.

Ultimate
For her ult you almost always want to use it while using Presence. You can pop Presence and run into the enemy and ult to cleanse all that damage you took and to make space or punish them for being too closely grouped up and then put rift slash on whoever got caught up in it. Also don't be afraid to use the cleanse from her ult defensively just to survive! Sometimes an enemy will still get hit by it or get pulled out of position. There's also three other things you can do with your ult I'll add:
1.) Use Rift Slash before ulting to slow enemies so they can't just run out. This is also way better in Show of Force since anyone you hit with it will be crippled and unable to use a movement ability to dodge the ult. This also works with Subjugation's root on Presence pull.
2.) Use the chain pull from presence right before ulting so their momentum is going towards you or to try and get an additional enemy into it. This ends your aura early, so any damage you take after the initial cleanse from your ult will be taken normally. Use this when you know it's safe too.
3.) If your shield is off cooldown, you can put it in front of you before you ult to block damage or pull them through it if you run the Abyssal Breach talent (you can do the same with chain pull.) You can also just put the shield down just before enemies come out of stun to block their damage and keep space/retreat.

Items
As for items the best items in my opinion for her are:
Chronos - She's really depends on her cooldowns both defensively and offensively. A lot of my damage is often half ability damage or more.
Rejuv - She gets a scaling 20% healing bonus near the objective. So 20% on it and still a bonus even if you're just a bit away from it. I'm still not sure where that bonus ends, but both of these together also stack against caut. So at Rejuv 3 on point and 90% caut, you're only in 40% caut. Still try to get out of combat (ideally still near the objective, but out of enemy sightlines) to get healed up by your support. But if you have to fight on point in caut, then you have to wait until you can use your shield to cleanse it.
Nimble - No movement ability means you need faster movement speed to get in and out of fights. A lot of value for not a lot of credits, but there are situations where you might not have space to buy it
Haven - Less damage better. Especially in Royal Presence.
Resilience - CC can really mess up your day, so resi is a must buy for her in those situations.
Points if you noticed that three of her items (Nimble, Resi, Rejuv) are actually pretty low cost, so getting your build up can be pretty fast sometimes.
As for her best item starts (if your support is something like Jenos or Corvus or a solo damage furia, start a Rejuv build):
1.) Chronos + Nimble - If you buy this, your third buy should almost always be rejuv unless there's a situation that calls for something else like something that needs counter or your support is just cracked and doesn't need it quite yet. But Rejuv is inevitable on this character.
2.) Rejuv + Resi - Best start when there's CC you don't want to deal with. Once Resi is at 2 you can start building out more, but rush that unless your opponent isn't very good with CC.
3.) Rejuv + Nimble / Rejuv alone - You need more healing
Redundant items for her are:
Illuminate - You can actually just track enemies that are invisible with the tick damage from royal presence and then throw rift slash on them, hit them with your weapon, and either kill them or push them out. It takes some getting used to for you to hit your shots just tracking the numbers, but it's nice to have the item slot freed up.
Morale Boost - You get so much ult charge from Presence ticks if you have her build set up right with Center of Combat and Abyssal Authority, so only reason to really buy this is if you really need your ult and your build doesn't include those.
Last thing about items is that while she isn't great with Wrecker, if your team is low on it and you feel like you need it: get it.

Cards
Onto her cards, I'll preface by saying that strong card go brrrr isn't always the best option on this character. She's got a lot of stuff that's a little weak in base kit, but much stronger when you buff it. So a balanced spread can help you out a lot. But also some of this is my opinion and you do you; if you want a card at 5 then that's your expression of the character. Remember that you should try to build characters to suit your own playstyle.

Best (No particular order):
Abyssal Authority - Getting more enemies in your aura means more passive damage. That means more ult charge, damage numbers for credits, and adding kill potential to your team even for enemies you aren't actually looking at. It doesn't seem like a lot at first, but it adds up as I mentioned above. If you're point tank you want this card at 3-4. 5 is kind of overkill, but do you.
Center of Combat - This is where a lot of your damage numbers will come from. Boosting aura damage is great. I have this at 4 on my main build which can rack up to 26% max health on a single target over 12 seconds. There's still a good benefit to 5, but I like to put that point elsewhere to balance my build out. Except in a Nyx mirror. They go 5 then you go 5 on this card.
Forever Changed - HP adds to your bulkiness which can really help you out. But if you'd rather go for something else, totally respectable. But have at least one build that has this card at 4 or 5 if you notice you find yourself in a situation that demands bulkiness.
The Little Things - Rift Slash is a hugely important tool on this character, so reducing it's cooldown is fantastic. Personally I have this at 2 because I have my points elsewhere and at this level I rarely don't have slash when I need it. But it still happens now and again. 4-5 is kind of overkill unless you're going off-tank though.
Devastating Blows - This card is amazing when you need it. You'll find yourself against enemies that usually won't be close to you though. Which negates the benefit of the card. That's why I have a build that just uses this as a filler card. I find that at 3 you're generally in the space you would be fighting another tank on point, but if you find that space to put it at 4 then go for it! 5 isn't too far off from 4 though, so the benefit in a point in another card is a little better, but that's just my opinion.

Pretty Good:
All Will Kneel - Rift slash is amazing at denying space, so adding some radius to it's pulses. That's 200 damage total over 2s or 300 over 3s in Show of Force, but the slow is the biggest benefit.
Unchecked Power - I've faced Nyx's that send this card and ngl it can be pretty annoying at start until resil is up. Even at just 2-3 there's value in this card, but I personally don't use either this or the previous one because I find more than enough value with base rift slash and I like buffing other things better for my playstyle.
Brutal Pursuer - This card is ONLY good if you're going off tank. Otherwise you're better off putting points elsewhere. The value of the move speed just isn't high enough on point tank.
Unyielding Advance - This is a pretty good filler card. If you find it suits you, then go for it! But it doesn't have a lot of value past 1-2 compared to others.
Frontline Commander - This card is amazing! On another character. Nyx's base kit needs too much boosting to justify space for this at a level where it's really useful. She's pretty CC heavy, so the move speed decrease just gives resi more value against her. But still give it a shot if you like it, despite what I said it's a pretty fun card. Just remember that my take on this card is an opinion despite me wording it like it's a fact.

Meh:
World Torn Asunder - When you get used to Rift Slash, it's not super hard to hit even at 100 units as long as you space yourself correctly. So the real value in this is hitting agile enemies like Vatu, Maeve, or VII. But it's not a card you want to put a lot of points out of, and you can still work around having it. Not a bad idea to have it as a 1-2 pointer to deal with champions like that though if you find it helps you! I'm just saying in general there's much more value elsewhere. Personally I don't use it at all, but give it a shot still to draw your own conclusion.
A Swift End - Devastating blows gets you way more value. It's there all the time and this is only usable on shield. At level 5 this adds ~360 damage to a single combo (3s), but that number really isn't exact and is likely a little lower. Just an estimate. Biggest argument for this card is you can re-proc it by strafing your shield, so it's shield duration + 3s. But if an enemy shield is in your way then you lose value unless your aim is to try and burst down the shield. The card is still fun though. So if you're not looking to be optimal, go for it! Same applies to some other cards above.

No:
True Freedom - If you take one thing away from this comment. Don't use this card. It's a scrub trap. There's better one pointers and when you get used to the character you'll find this card is just training wheels that don't even really need to exist. Even if you miss a hit on your weapon or hold it for a bit longer, the value is just too small.
The New Order - Not as bad as True Freedom is, but the value is way too low and other cards are just way better. Most chains will hit 1-2 enemies max. Even at 5 that's a 150-300 shield for way too many points.
Unyielding Advance - It's like using Guardian as an item: don't. People will buy wrecker and decimate your shield even with this at 5. And if they don't your shield will last more than long enough.
Face to Face - I mean, you can kind of meme with this, but even then the value is just bad. Base pull does it's job just fine, and using this to soften the blow from the other team building resi doesn't help a whole lot in comparison to other cards.

Builds
If anyone wants my builds for reference, I'll put them here. Just remember this is for how I play the character and what personally found me the most success:
AA= Abyssal Authority, CoC = Center of Combat, FC = Forever Changed, TLT = The Little Things, DB = Devastating Blows, BP = Brutal Pursuer
Balanced - CoC 4, AA 3, FC 3, DB 3, TLT 2. Main build I use almost all the time.
Bulky - FC 5, CoC 4, AA 3, TLT 2, DB 1. I use this build either when I need more health, or more often when I know enemies are going to be farther from me so I won't get value out of DB.
Damage - CoC 5, AA 4, DB 3, TLT 2, FC 1. I use this build when facing another Nyx or really bulky comps. Especially with Lilith as the support with 2 tanks. Really messes with her resources.
Off-Tank - CoC4, DB 4, TLT 3, BP 3, AA 1. As off tank you need that extra bit of movement speed. Even though it isn't substantial, it helps a lot. You're not the center of the fight as off-tank, so AA doesn't get as much value, but CoC adds to your damage. DB is at 4 so you can get stronger pokes from a bit farther and TLT 3 lets you rift slash more and keep that move speed up. Don't use it exclusively for the speed though.

Talents
Show of Force - This is my favorite talent for her by far. The extra second lets you deny more space and the cripple increases pick potential for you and your team. Biggest downside if there's a lot of CC on your team you'll lose value so you might be better off going Abyssal Breach in those cases. But you can definitely still work around it even then.
Abyssal Breach - The talent I used on point before they buffed Show of Force. Having your shield more often on point is really helpful and it punishes anyone trying to push past your shield in narrow spaces or catch you while you're strafing it in open ones. Great if your team has a lot of CC like I pointed out above. Also don't forget you can use your chain pull to bring people through the shield for that extra damage if you find a good chance for a pick. This goes for pulling enemies through it with your ult as well, but if resi is up it's not nearly as viable tech.
Subjugation - A lot of people say it's her best, but I say it's situational. If you end your aura early with it, you lose a lot of that nice damage and ult charge. But this talent is still really useful. Great as an off-tank talent if your team doesn't have a lot of useful CC so you get more value out of this from forcing resi or someone on the enemy team ignoring resi. Make sure to track who has it for you picks. On point you would only use this if you know the enemy has an agile champion your comp isn't equipped to deal with and you know you won't hit those Show of Force cripples. If your team has a lot of CC then Show of Force is the better off-tank talent.

Well, that's the end of the guide. I know that was a lot of text, but so are her ability descriptions in game lol. I hope that some of the info that I put here was found useful by someone. Take care and glhf!

2023.05.28 04:00 AutoModerator What are the benefits and side effects of Ashwagandha?

What is ashwagandha?
The ashwagandha plant is one of the most powerful herbs. Various parts of the ashwagandha plant are used for medicinal purposes, with ashwagandha extract mainly being used in supplements. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, a natural agent that reportedly helps the body cope with stress. As a result, it’s believed to be effective at helping reduce levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. It may also therefore potentially help with anxiety and depression too.
What does ashwagandha do?
Reduces Stress and Anxiety
Ashwagandha is known to help reduce stress and anxiety. One way it does this is by reducing levels of cortisol, a hormone that is released in response to stress. Additionally, ashwagandha has been shown to improve mood and cognitive function, both of which can be negatively affected by stress.
Enhances Cognitive Function
Ashwagandha has also been shown to improve cognitive function. One study showed that it improved memory and reaction time in healthy adults. Another study found that it improved task performance in people with ADHD. Additionally, ashwagandha may help prevent age-related cognitive decline.
Boosts Energy Levels
Ashwagandha has been shown to boost energy levels. One study showed that it increased stamina and reduced fatigue in people with chronic fatigue syndrome. Additionally, ashwagandha may help improve exercise performance.
Additionally, ashwagandha may also help improve sleep quality and reduce inflammation. These effects can all contribute to enhanced energy levels.
Regulates Blood Sugar Levels
Ashwagandha has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels. One study showed that it improved insulin sensitivity in people with type II diabetes. Additionally, ashwagandha may help reduce fasting blood sugar levels and improve symptoms of diabetes.
Additionally, ashwagandha may also help lower cholesterol levels and protect against heart disease. These effects can also contribute to improved blood sugar control.
Lowers Blood Pressure
Ashwagandha has been shown to help lower blood pressure. One study showed that it improved blood pressure in people with hypertension. Additionally, ashwagandha may help reduce stress and anxiety, both of which can contribute to high blood pressure.
Is ashwagandha safe?
Ashwagandha is generally considered safe for most people. However, it can cause side effects such as stomach upset, diarrhea, and vomiting in some people. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, it's best to avoid ashwagandha.
What happens when you take ashwagandha daily?
As a sleep aid, ashwagandha may help people get to sleep faster and stay asleep for longer. It is also used to promote male potency. Ashwagandha has a variety of health benefits, including reduced blood sugar levels, inflammation, mood, memory, stress and anxiety relief, as well as an increase in muscle strength and fertility. Depending on your requirements, dosages vary from 250 to 500 mg per day for at least one month.
When it comes to stress relief, ashwagandha may be as effective as some prescription medications. A 2010 study found that the herb was just as effective as lorazepam (Ativan) in reducing stress and anxiety. click the link below to learn more about abhwagandha, and its real health benefits.
